This is an interesting concept for concentrated production of a valuable vegetable. I cannot vouch for it personally, but it makes sense as a good way to utilize space. I've seen similar done with a 5 gallon bucket or other large bucket type containers. Put some holes in the bottom and sides. Then plant and fill with dirt as they grow up until the bucket is all filled in.
