CASPER, Wyo. — The cause of an explosion in a south Casper neighborhood that left one seriously injured is under investigation, according to Casper Fire-EMS firefighter Taylor Herron.

Several callers reported fire in a driveway caused by a small explosion on the 2400 block of South Fairdale Avenue at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19.

Firefighters arrived to find a car, a trailer and grass on fire. They were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to any nearby structures, thanks in part to swift reporting, the agency said in a formal release Monday evening.

One person was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. A family member contacted Oil City News to say the man had needed intubation and was flown to Denver for treatment of severe burns. She has started a GoFundMe.

“The cause of the fire remains under investigation by investigators with the Natrona
County Interagency Fire Investigation Task Force,” the release shortly before 8 p.m. said.

Casper Fire-EMS reminds all area residents to be mindful of the threat of wildland fire in urban interface areas. Due to the swift action of Firefighters at this incident, flaming embers were kept out of interface areas. Wildland fires have been caused by incidents like this one — whereupon a relatively isolated incident spreads into urban interface areas — often driven by our strong winds.
