Indonesia: Widespread flooding leaves over 25,000 people stranded in Nusa Tenggara Timur
BELU [ACTED News] – Widespread flooding has hit Belu district, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia. The most severe floods have been seen in Malaka Tengah sub-district, where 14 villages with a population of roughly 18,800 people have been affected. 571 houses have been damaged along with approximately 1,239 hectares of crops. In addition, water points have been contaminated and emergency food stocks are running low. This district is where ACTED is involved in disaster risk reduction, in partnership with local NGO CIS Timor and the United States Office for Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA). ACTED is currently seeking funding to provide emergency assistance to affected communities.
* My personal opinion: From a current satellite image, this area did not seem to have the intense rain.
