India: 20 families vacate house due to cracks and "sinking" land.

Aizawl: At least 20 families in Ramhlun Sports Complex area have vacated their houses due to cracks appearing in the area and the land where their houses stood sinking recently.

Parliana, Chairman of the Local council of the area, today said that 30 families were living in the area and 21 families had left their homes leaving behind their belongings.

The area had been identified as a "sinking area", but the government had done nothing to prevent it, he said.

Fund has been allocated for construction of check dams by the Centre, but no work had commenced till date, he added.
