Minister of Public Works Gerson Martinez, and Environment Minister Herman Rosa Chavez, along with delegates of the Salvadoran Association of Engineers and Architects (ASIA) and the Salvadoran Chamber of Construction (CASALCO), visited the ravine, formed in Comasagua due to recent rains. 180 meters wide at its widest point and a depth of 50 meters, on Tuesday afternoon went over 150 thousand cubic meters of earth and stones. Ravine affected communities of four municipalities: El Refugio, La Estrella, Ascensión and San Antonio. After thorough testing experts said that it happened in the aquifer recharge area, where there are several sources of water that produce landslides and debris flows, forming a gully. This is the area most affected by the rains, which recorded 250 mm of rainfall.
