Altering Earthquakes:

ZetaTalk Aug 7, 2010

As of late, I have observed that USGS and EMSC are a bit lax on their reports of earthquakes. Sometimes not seeing anything reported for hours from the last update, or seeing periods of 90-200 minutes with no earthquakes in between. My question is, are they leaving swarms of earthquakes out of their reports, or there are actually periods of no earthquakes?

SOZT:   Greater than 90% of the earthquake activity is being altered by the USGS at present, which is under orders to prevent any clue being given to the public about the Earth changes caused by the presence of Planet X. Over a decade ago, the approach was to de-sensitize the live seismographs periodically, so the displays do not turn black worldwide, and to ignore the twice-a-day patterns showing up on these seismographs. Then any quakes that could be dropped were dropped. This was obvious to some who were watching the database manipulation. Quakes in the list would suddenly disappear. This was particularly the case where a quake happened in a remote location, or out in the ocean. Dumbing down the magnitude quickly followed, but in order to ensure the public did not notice, the USGS took control of all websites reporting quake statistics. At times, this control breaks, and discrepancies are reported to the public. Some countries rebel. Quake swarms are another source of control, as they pepper the databases with many quakes and skew the statistics, and thus are pulled from the database. Else the question is raised, why so many?   EOZT

Will the USGS internet system be a reliable warning system for the European tsunami by registering on the net the New Madrid earthquake on the exact time it occurs?

SOZT:   It will not be a lack of information from the USGS that will be the point of confusion during the earthquakes leading up to the New Madrid adjustment, it will be knowing which quake is the big one vs the many minor quakes preceding it. The USGS downgrades almost all earthquakes, to prevent meaningful statistics from being generated from their databases. They also exclude quakes whenever they can, but this is unlikely to happen in the New Madrid area as it is in the center of a populated land mass. Thus you will have magnitude 6 quakes that will be called a 5.2, magnitude 7 quakes called a 6.1, and when a magnitude 8 or greater quake occurs, it will be called a 6.9.

We would advise that rather than watching the USGS quake statistics, that you watch the Earth changes. The adjustment that will incite the European tsunami will involve bridges on the Mississippi breaking, and being impassable. The land to the west of the Mississippi will drop so that the Mississippi will become 50 miles wide in the state of Mississippi. Watch for this. The New Madrid adjustment will be several large quakes of magnitude 8-9, though will be listed as a lesser magnitude. As the N American continent continues to unzip up to and along the Seaway, the quakes will be less than a magnitude 8 but very destructive to Cleveland and Toledo and Buffalo and the inland locks along the Seaway. Thus it is not what the USGS says that should be watched, but the condition of the bridges on the Mississippi, the impact on the cities along the Seaway, and whether the inland locks are reported as inoperable.   EOZT

Please collect earthquake-reports here. Significant Quakes or Magnitude 7+ can be posted separately.

More quake reporting mischief.  Yesterday's quake in the Flores region of Indonesia was broadly reported as a 6.3 Richter, but downgraded to a 5.5 by USGS.

Earthquake in northeastern Iran injures more than 200

TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) -- More than 200 people were injured on late Thursday afternoon when a moderate earthquake struck near a city in northeastern Iran, state-run media reported on late Friday. A number of buildings in the region collapsed.

The 5.5-magnitude earthquake at 4.05 p.m. local time (1235 GMT) was centered about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) northeast of Nishapur, a city in the province of Razavi Khorasan near the border with Turkmenistan. It struck about 8 kilometers (4.9 miles) deep, making it a very shallow earthquake, according to the Iranian Seismological Center.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS), which measured the strength of the earthquake at 5.1 on the moment magnitude scale, estimated that some 268,000 people may have experienced strong shaking. An estimated 2.7 million others may have felt light to moderate shaking.

"The population in this region resides in structures that are highly vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though some resistant structures exist," the USGS said. "The predominant vulnerable building types are adobe block and unreinforced brick with timber floor construction."

Officials said a number of buildings in nearby towns and cities had been damaged or collapsed, causing injuries. Iran's Fars News Agency reported on Friday that the number of injured had risen to at least 230, including about 30 people who had to be hospitalized.

Earthquakes, even light and moderate ones, often cause heavy damage and large numbers of casualties in certain parts of the country due to poor construction, especially when they hit during the night when most residents are sleeping.

On December 20, 2010, at least seven people were killed and hundreds more were injured when a strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) from the town of Hosein abad in Kerman Province, located in southeastern Iran.

And on August 27, 2010, two young children were killed and more than a dozen others were injured when a moderate 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck 76 kilometers (47 miles) from Damghan, a city in the country's Semnan Province.

Before that, in November 2009, a light 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, injuring more than 700 people. In December 2003, around 31,000 people were killed and more than 30,000 others were injured when a strong 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Bam. It left the area devastated with 85 percent of buildings damaged or destroyed in the city

Here is a description of "slow slips" that surely applies to other areas of the Earth, including  India, Nepal, Pakistan Afghanistan, all around the Pacific (Australia?), Antarctica, even the Eastern USA and other areas with horizontal faults, not just the more noticeable vertical faults.

Great East Japan Earthquake may have been caused by 'slow slips': researchers

A huge tsunami tears through a protective screen of trees and swallows homes in this photo taken from a Mainichi helicopter in Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, on March 11, 2011. (Mainichi)

The magnitude 9.0 Great East Japan Earthquake and a smaller earlier quake may have been caused by a phenomenon known as "slow slips," according to research by the University of Tokyo's Earthquake Research Institute.

Slow slips are when two plates or other underground layers slowly move past one another, creating warps in the surrounding ground. It is known that before a massive earthquake, smaller earthquakes and other warning signs exist, but this is the first time that slow slips have been confirmed to have occurred before those warning signs.

The main quake occurred when a tectonic plate to the east of the Sanriku region sunk under another plate and the energy of stored warps in the ground was released. The team analyzed data from the Japan Meteorological Agency on 333 earthquakes from mid-February 2011 to the main quake on March 11 and also confirmed 1,083 additional small earthquakes that occurred.

The team closely examined all the earthquakes' vibration waves. They discovered that the quakes' hypocenters were moving south at an average of two to five kilometers per day from mid- to late February, but from a 7.3 magnitude quake on March 9 until the 9.0 magnitude quake on March 11, the speed increased to about 10 kilometers per day.

Based on the quakes' characteristics, the team determined that slow slips had occurred. Slow slips do not necessarily occur before all major earthquakes, but assistant professor Aitaro Kato, one of the researchers, said, "We confirmed that if a slow slip occurs and there is warped ground ahead of it, an earthquake can be triggered."

The study was published in the electronic version of the scientific journal Science on Jan. 20.
