Crane drops section of Port Mann bridge into B.C. river
90-tonne segment of bridge plunges into Fraser River

A crane tipped off its tracks on the Port Mann bridge construction project east of Vancouver on Friday morning and dropped a segment of the bridge into the Fraser River.
Bridge project spokesman Max Logan said the gantry crane, which is designed to move on rails, is secure and nobody was hurt, but a 90-tonne section of the bridge deck the crane was moving fell into the Fraser River.
The segment struck a pile as it fell and is now submerged in the river. It is unclear whether the segment can be recovered.
The bridge segments are brought in by barge and lifted into place by the special 720-tonne horizontal gantry crane, which is also called a segment launcher.
Logan said one of the supports for the gantry appears to have been crushed and the gantry pitched forward.
It is unclear how long the mishap will delay the project, but the contractor Kiewit is responsible for any costs that result.
The Trans-Canada Highway remains open on the old Port Mann Bridge and there are no reports of any injuries.
When completed, the $800-million bridge will provide 10-lane crossing of the Fraser River for the Trans-Canada Highway east of Vancouver. It is scheduled to be completed in 2013.
Crane falls at Mich. construction site; 3 hurt
A 250-foot-tall crane collapsed Friday morning onto a building at a construction site at the Kent County jail complex in Grand Rapids, injuring three people, authorities said.
The jail was placed on lockdown following the incident. Kent County Undersheriff Jon Hess described the injuries to a construction worker and two Kent County jail trustees as minor, The Grand Rapids Press (http://bit.ly/ziaMEe) reported.
Both the department construction company officials said all inmates and workers were accounted for.
Construction company Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. said Friday in a statement it was investigating the cause of the accident and had no further information. Hess said it appears that a cable snapped as the crane was carrying cement.
Images from the scene showed part of the crane leaning against a building. A garage area where sheriff's vehicles are kept was damaged.
The main jail that houses inmates apparently wasn't damaged, and Hess said authorities were checking the structural integrity of that building.
The crane that fell has been used for seven months on a $27 million renovation project, Hess said.

Victims were rushed to a government hospital in Sasaram where two were declared dead on arrival while four others were undergoing treatment for injuries ranging from minor to serious in nature, officials said.
Equipment malfunction was said to be the cause of the accident.

SUNBURY – A worker was hurt when a crane he was working on collapsed in Northumberland County.
A contractor was fixing a sign at CVS on South Fourth Street in Sunbury around 10 a.m. when the crane he was working on collapsed, and he fell off, according to the Sunbury fire chief.
The name of the worker and his condition were not released. The fire chief said his injuries were not life-threatening.
Around 50 to 100 gallons of hydraulic fluid spilled from the truck.
The CVS store remained open

Cranes Collapse, Injure 3 Workers At Dade Construction Site
June 1, 2017 12:07 PMMIAMI (CBSMiami) — Three workers were injured Thursday morning while on the job at a construction site in northwest Miami-Dade county.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was called out shortly after 10 a.m. regarding a construction accident where two cranes failed for some unknown reason and then fell.
Rescue workers are at the site located near NW 57th Avenue and Blue Lagoon Drive.
Chopper4 was over the scene where three people were being treated on backboards at a building under construction.
The workers were loaded onto the fire ladder and lowered down to the ground then taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
It’s unknown whether the workers were on the crane or near the crane at the time of the incident.
There are a lot of office buildings in the area and workers were out watching the scene unfold.
“It was crazy. There was a big accident. The things just fell. Oh my gosh. I was so worried. I am so happy that it wasn’t serious. It could have really gotten bad,” said Lisa Daniels who watched the rescue.

Crane collapses at Falmouth Docks, Cornwall UK
FALMOUTH POLICE
A crane has collapsed at Falmouth Docks in Cornwall, leading to the evacuation of the site.
The structure toppled on to the dockside with an "enormous bang" at about 09:00 BST.
There are no reported injuries, although the site had to be cleared because the crane collapsed on to acetylene cylinders.
A 200m exclusion zone has been put in place while firefighters work to make the area safe.
The Royal Navy Lookout Twitter account, an unofficial local account, said the crane collapsed with an "enormous bang".
A&P Group, which owns the docks, has said a full health and safety investigation would take place.

SEOUL/OSLO--Six people died and more than 20 were injured when a crane collapsed at a Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea on Monday, Yonhap News Agency said.
The incident took place during the construction of an oil platform for French energy company Total's Martin Linge field off Norway. The extent of any damage to the platform was not immediately clear, a Total spokesman in Norway said.
Total and Samsung Heavy said it was also not clear how the incident might affect delivery of the platform, which was expected to start producing oil and gas in the North Sea in 2018.
"It's too early to say what would be the consequences for delivering the platform, but for the time being all work at the yard has been stopped and the investigation is ongoing," said Leif Harald Halvorsen, a spokesman for Total's Norwegian subsidiary.
South Korea's Yonhap said 22 people were injured, including three severely.
"The crane fell onto the platform's well bay module, where the people were working," Halvorsen said.
No Total employees were killed or injured in the incident, which took place around 0545 GMT at the shipyard in Geoje, he added.
Total owns a 51 percent stake in the Martin Linge license, while Norwegian state-owned Petoro has 30 percent and Statoil 18 percent.

Published on Apr 27, 2017A Norwegian ship docked in Poland's northern city of Gdynia capsized on Thursday after being struck by a collapsing crane.
Authorities said no injuries occurred in the accident. A spokesman for the local fire department said that "all people were evacuated" before the firefighters arrived at the scene. Lukasz Plusa added that emergency workers were securing the ship.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crane to collapse. The ship was out of service and docked at the Nauta shipyard for repairs.
