Altering Earthquakes:

ZetaTalk Aug 7, 2010

As of late, I have observed that USGS and EMSC are a bit lax on their reports of earthquakes. Sometimes not seeing anything reported for hours from the last update, or seeing periods of 90-200 minutes with no earthquakes in between. My question is, are they leaving swarms of earthquakes out of their reports, or there are actually periods of no earthquakes?

SOZT:   Greater than 90% of the earthquake activity is being altered by the USGS at present, which is under orders to prevent any clue being given to the public about the Earth changes caused by the presence of Planet X. Over a decade ago, the approach was to de-sensitize the live seismographs periodically, so the displays do not turn black worldwide, and to ignore the twice-a-day patterns showing up on these seismographs. Then any quakes that could be dropped were dropped. This was obvious to some who were watching the database manipulation. Quakes in the list would suddenly disappear. This was particularly the case where a quake happened in a remote location, or out in the ocean. Dumbing down the magnitude quickly followed, but in order to ensure the public did not notice, the USGS took control of all websites reporting quake statistics. At times, this control breaks, and discrepancies are reported to the public. Some countries rebel. Quake swarms are another source of control, as they pepper the databases with many quakes and skew the statistics, and thus are pulled from the database. Else the question is raised, why so many?   EOZT

Will the USGS internet system be a reliable warning system for the European tsunami by registering on the net the New Madrid earthquake on the exact time it occurs?

SOZT:   It will not be a lack of information from the USGS that will be the point of confusion during the earthquakes leading up to the New Madrid adjustment, it will be knowing which quake is the big one vs the many minor quakes preceding it. The USGS downgrades almost all earthquakes, to prevent meaningful statistics from being generated from their databases. They also exclude quakes whenever they can, but this is unlikely to happen in the New Madrid area as it is in the center of a populated land mass. Thus you will have magnitude 6 quakes that will be called a 5.2, magnitude 7 quakes called a 6.1, and when a magnitude 8 or greater quake occurs, it will be called a 6.9.

We would advise that rather than watching the USGS quake statistics, that you watch the Earth changes. The adjustment that will incite the European tsunami will involve bridges on the Mississippi breaking, and being impassable. The land to the west of the Mississippi will drop so that the Mississippi will become 50 miles wide in the state of Mississippi. Watch for this. The New Madrid adjustment will be several large quakes of magnitude 8-9, though will be listed as a lesser magnitude. As the N American continent continues to unzip up to and along the Seaway, the quakes will be less than a magnitude 8 but very destructive to Cleveland and Toledo and Buffalo and the inland locks along the Seaway. Thus it is not what the USGS says that should be watched, but the condition of the bridges on the Mississippi, the impact on the cities along the Seaway, and whether the inland locks are reported as inoperable.   EOZT

Please collect earthquake-reports here. Significant Quakes or Magnitude 7+ can be posted separately.

M6 earthquake jolts Tokyo vicinity, injuring at least 16

A strong earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 6.0 jolted central Tokyo on Monday morning.

The quake, which struck around 5:18 a.m., measured lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the Otemachi business district in central Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The magnitude was revised from 6.2 initially reported.

Tremors measuring at least one on the scale were felt widely in Japan from the Tohoku northeastern region to the Chugoku western region.

The quake was centered 162 km below the seafloor off the island of Izu Oshima, according to the agency. It caused no tsunami.

This was the strongest seismic intensity level measured in Chiyoda Ward since upper 5 was logged there from the 9.0-magnitude quake on March 11, 2011, off the northeastern Japan coast.

No major damage has been reported, but the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said that a total of 16 people were injured in the Tokyo area.

Yohei Hasegawa, director of the meteorological agency’s Earthquake and Tsunami Observation Division, said at a news conference that Monday’s temblor occurred in the Pacific plate and has little connection with an expected major quake directly beneath Tokyo or in the Sagami Trough south of Tokyo.

Aftershocks generally do not follow a quake of this depth, Hasegawa said, but he urged people to prepare for an aftershock of 3 or 4 on the Japanese scale just in case.

According to local authorities, a 66-year-old woman collapsed and suffered a broken bone in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo. Four were injured in Yokohama near Kawasaki, hit by such falling objects as a clock and a picture frame.

Eight were injured in Tokyo, one in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, and a total of two in Ichikawa and Kisarazu in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo. Continue...

The Daily Mail also picks up the story:

The month that shook the world: Incredible time-lapse reveals planet as it was rocked by record-breaking earthquakes in April

  • Earth shown as calm until April 1 when huge earthquake rocks Chile
  • Another huge earthquake shakes Solomon Islands in the South Pacific
  • The activity doesn’t let up all month with larger-than-normal quakes all in Nicaragua, Mexico, Canada, and even an unusual one in the South Atlantic
  • According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, which issues alerts for tsunamis, there were 13 major earthquakes in April

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2618795/The-month-sh...

The 6.0-magnitude earthquake that jolted parts of Indonesia today served as a reminder of just how active the seemingly-solid ground beneath us can be.

And these reminders have become increasingly frequent. On average, the world only sees one or two earthquakes per month that are 6.5-magnitude or higher.

But April produced a higher-than-normal number of the major seismic events, as revealed in this incredible time-lapse video.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), which issues alerts for tsunamis, there were 13 major earthquakes in April. Five were higher than 7.8, which prompted tsunami warnings.

Moderate-to-large earthquakes are less common, but last month was ‘easily a record for this institution,’ according to the PTWC.

Comment by Howard on May 3, 2014 at 12:38am

Record Number of Large Earthquakes in April 2014 (May 1)

Thirteen quakes of magnitudes 6.5 or higher occured around the world during April. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that is "easily a record for this institution."

Five of these temblors were powerful enough that the center also put out tsunami warnings. They include the massive quakes in northern Chile at the beginning of the month, as well as three more that shook the Solomon Islands in the following weeks.

1 April, M8.2, northern Chile
3 April, M7.8, northern Chile
12 April, M7.6, Solomon Islands
13 April, M7.7, Solomon Islands
19 April, M7.8, Solomon Islands

The unusual spike in seismic activity is shown in the above animation, which displays the locations and depths of quakes for the first four months of 2014.

The tsunami center explains:

"This animation shows all earthquakes on earth so far this year in sequence as recorded in the USGS's NEIC database (available at earthquake.usgs.gov). Note the typical level of activity through March. But starting with the 8.2 magnitude earthquake in northern Chile on April 1, the rest of the month saw 12 more moderate-to-large earthquakes mostly in Chile and the Solomon Islands but also in Nicaragua, Mexico, Canada, and even the south Atlantic Ocean. The animation concludes with a summary map showing all of the earthquakes in this four-month period."

The center gives no indication as to what might be behind the rash of major quaking.

Two earthquakes in Lourdes this morning felt a jolt to Toulouse- FRANCE

Two earthquakes occurred Tuesday morning at Lourdes in the Hautes-Pyrénées. The first tremor was felt at 9:03, with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale, according to the French Central Seismological Bureau. It was followed by a replica at 9.07, lower, with a magnitude of 3.4.

Considered by the French Central Seismological Bureau "moderate earthquake", the earthquake was felt particularly in the Hautes-Pyrénées and in Béarn. The tremor was also felt in Toulouse. The epicenter was in Juncalas.

Following the earthquake, the town of Argelès-Gazost and industry toward the Val d'Azun (Ayzac-Ost, Agos-Vidalos, Juncalas) were without electricity. Firefighters have saved many calls. So far, no damage is reported. MAP in the link
