Planet X was described as affecting the Earth from afar, like tugging on the edge of a spider web where the effects are felt elsewhere on the web; in this way there has been an increase in earthquakes and unpredictable weather going back years, even before Planet X entered the solar system, due to the increased swirling of the Earth’s core.

It is therefore logical that an increase in train derailments would accompany any increase in seismic activity – train tracks need to be straight and even the slightest shift to the side of a section of track would cause a train to derail.

The area most affected by train derailments is the stretch zone.  Stretch zone quakes are silent, and people are generally unaware anything is happening, although signs such as booms and trumpet sounds can occur.

This zone stretches from Western Europe across the Eurasian Plate, and also includes the South-East United States, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Red Sea and the African Rift.

In other parts of the world, shifting ground is more associated with earthquakes that people are aware of, such as the Pacific which is compressing, so authorities inspect railway tracks after any seismic activity, reducing the likelihood of accidents.

Coal train derails return for Amtrak passengers

Posted on January 27, 2014 at 6:42 PM

Updated today at 8:05 PM

When your train stops on the tracks on the way home from Canada, these are not the words you want to hear: "They came on and told us, 'this could get ugly,"' said Kathy Colwell.

Kathy and her husband Steve were celebrating their 46th wedding anniversary in Vancouver this past weekend, when the trip home came to a screeching halt.

"We started thinking it would be a 3 hour delay, then a 4 hour delay," said Steve. It ended up being a 61/2 hour delay -- 10 hours to get from Vancouver to Seattle. A broken down coal train was to blame for clogging the tracks north of Bellingham Monday night.

"Bathrooms were overflowing, babies were crying, people were pounding on the doors to get out," said Kathy.

The couple says things got so bad, some simply couldn't take it anymore and called for cabs to come drive them to Seattle.

"They told the workers if they continued to keep them hostage they were going to break the door open and leave," said Kathy. "And sure enough, in the middle of the wilderness a cab did show up."

The Colwells chose not to abandon ship. They were left with minimal food, no cell service and no back-up plan.

"I just would've thought someone would've had a plan for something like this," said Steve.

The couple says some did make the most of the situation. A group of swing dancers from Edmonds-Woodway High School danced in the aisles, entertaining the frustrated, weary passengers.

Calls to Amtrak for comment late Monday were not immediately returned.

The Colwells said the entertainment was much appreciated, but their post-anniversary dinner left a lot to be desired. "Peanuts and water," they said with a laugh. "Happy anniversary, honey!"

Forty freight train cargo cars lay in a tangled mess on a railway just south of McKenzie Thursday morning.

According to Trezevant Police Chief John Richardson, the train derailed some time between 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Richardson said the train derailed, hit a tree, then the tree hit an 18-wheeler. He said the train busted a window on the truck, but that the driver was not injured.

He said no injuries were reported and that the accident is still under investigation.

The train belonged to the CSX international transportation company. The wreck was along Highway 79 between McKenzie and Trezevant.

Clean up at the accident is not expected to be completed until around 6 p.m., Richardson said.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the tractor trailer crash.

A release from the THP said the 18-wheeler was traveling southbound on Highway 79.

The train was traveling south on a rail system that runs parallel to Highway 79.

The train derailed from the tracks and struck a tree and the tree was knocked out into the roadway of Highway 79, and the semis struck the tree, the highway patrol reported.

Officials said there was little damage to the vehicle. The driver was David Letson, 45, of Mississippi.

Officials also said the CSX Railroad Company is investigating the train derailment.

Police said two grain cars on a Wisconsin and Southern Railroad train jumped the tracks.

Rock County sheriff's officials got the word around 5 a.m. Media reports said none of the cars tipped over, and the fallen grain did not pose a health risk to anyone nearby.

Traffic was diverted in anticipation of the morning commute. Among the roads was one of downtown Janesville's major arteries, Court Street.

Train Derails on Bridge January 20, 2014, 1:10 am

A train from Chicago derailed early Monday morning in Philadelphia, leaving a tanker car and a boxcar leaning off a city bridge. Seven cars of the 101-car freight train derailed on the Schuylkill Arsenal Railroad Bridge where it crosses over the Schuylkill River, according to CSX spokesman Gary Sease. Six cars carried crude oil, but no leaking was reported. Another car contained sand, he said. No injuries were reported. The U.S. Coast Guard brought in a 25-foot response boat from its Philadelphia station to enforce a safety zone in the river just south of the bridge. Local police firefighters and emergency personnel also responded to the scene. "CSX would like to thank Philadelphia emergency first responders who arrived at the scene quickly and took prompt precautionary action," said a statement from CSX. Both directions of the Schuylkill Expressway were closed shortly after the derailment as crews worked to stabilize the cars. By 2:30 a.m. traffic began to move eastbound. It took another hour for the westbound lanes to open. There was no information as of 7 a.m. as to what caused the derailment. The bridge was built around the turn of the 20th Century and has since carried rail traffic for more than a century.
