Fault lines, when adjusting, do not just rip apart one day during a dramatic earthquake. They most often creep. Laying gas lines along or across a fault line is asking for an accident of this sort. Fault lines are also seldom so clearly delineated that one can go a mile in this or that direction and avoid their action. Where a slip-slide fault such as the San Andreas will often leave a clear line on the surface, this is only the surface action, not what occurs in the rock layers on either side which can fracture for a long way to either side during any movement. The gas company, or the age of the pipes, will be faulted but in truth the finger should be pointed in many directions. The public, who insist on living at such a scenic spot, is to blame. Officials, who zoned for housing are to blame. The public utility company, for allowing gas lines in the area, is to blame. The danger from radon gas will not be increased as a result of the pole shift. Radon gas is emitted by rock containing uranium, which is degrading. In normal circumstances, where air can circulate, it is disbursed rapidly as is any methane created by decay of organic material. The danger from these gasses comes from confinement - being trapped in a mine, a basement, or beneath the permafrost. The dangers are well known. For methane, it is explosions. An accumulation of methane gas can be identified by the smell of rotten eggs, or as some have described it, dirty socks or cabbage soup. For radon gas the danger is lung cancer, from the continual exposure to the radioactive air. Radon gas is odorless and cannot be detected except by specialized equipment not in the hands of the average person.

In that the pole shift, or the Earth changes preceding the pole shift, can fracture rock and release pockets of either gas, survivors should be cautious about huddling in bunkers. You are safer out in the open air, or in a trench you have dug that will allow the pole shift winds to pass over you, but nothing to fall on and crush you. The fact that both methane gas and radon gas can accumulate in the bunkers of the elite is one of the reasons we have stated that they have dug their own graves. EOZT

Anyone watching the news, for instance the news on the San Bruno explosion in a distribution line close to the San Andreas Fault line, knows that gas in any form is a danger. Oil and gas refineries explode when rigid piping cracks. Oil or gas wells explode when the ground around them moves. And the gas distribution lines running under cities are no exception. They likewise will explode. Gas lines, whether along the street or within a home, are rigid. In some cases automatic shutoff valves can limit the amount of gas available for an explosion by sensing a drop in pressure, but this is always after the fact. The explosion has already occurred. Utilizing gas on a planet prone to earthquakes was a mistake to begin with, but man never thinks of the consequences when striving for modern conveniences. We have advised turning off the gas at the street, though when the street explodes and your neighbor's homes are on fire you are not likely to escape the holocaust. A better alternative is to live in an area where gas is not available, as in your rural safe location where you will be doing a form of camping while gardening. A campfire at night, for cooking and washing and a bit of friendly light before bed. Nothing explosive. EOZT

2 killed in gas explosion in Russia's Murmansk

Two people were killed, and four others were injured in a gas explosion in a five-story apartment building in Murmansk in northern Russia.

TASS reports that the explosion occurred at 16:55 local time. A part of the wall and a part of the roof collapsed, destroying three floors of the building.

"I was in the shop, when I heard a loud bang, walls started to shake. Rescuers came within minutes," Local citizen Roman told TASS. Another witness said there was a "strong blast wave."

More than 390 people and over 90 units of equipment are involved in the rescue effort.

Investigators have launched a probe into the blast.

Three people dead in Catania explosion

Two fireman and an elderly resident killed in suspected gas blast

Three people lost their lives and another two were injured in an explosion in Catania on Tuesday.

Italian media reported that two of those who died were firemen.

The explosion is believed to have started from a gas leak in a bike repair shop in Via Garibaldi.

When neighbours noticed a strong smell of gas coming out of the shop, they called the fire brigade. But as soon as the firefighters attempted to cut the chain to enter the shop, a spark was released and the entire building went up in flames.

Five firefighters had to be taken to hospital but two died shortly after arriving at Vittorio Emanuele Hospital. Another two suffered extensive burns and were admitted to Garibaldi Hospital. One of them also suffered a head injury, while the other has been diagnosed with a pulmonary trauma, Italian media reported.

The fifth firefighter suffered shock.

The charred body of another victim, a man over 80 who lived in the building, was found in the rubble.

An inquiry is being held.

Terrifying explosion rips through chemical plant as witnesses hear 'big kaboom'

A HUGE explosion has rocked a chemical plant in Texas, leaving two people injured and another missing.

Dozens of fire fighters have scrambled to battle a large blaze that broke out at a chemical plant in North Texas, US, on Thursday morning (local time). 

The raging inferno was triggered by a huge explosion at the Tri-Chem Industries Plant in the town of Cresson, about 20 miles southwest of Fort Worth. 

A "big kaboom" and multiple explosions were heard at around 9.45am local time (2.45pm UK time), according to eyewitnesses. 

Further explosion were heard at around 11.15am local time, speading the flames to other sections of the building, located beside a major highway. 

Seven fire departments have deployed crew, many of whom are volunteers, to help quash the flames.

The cause of the explosion is not yet clear. 

Two people, one with serious burns and another with minor injuries, have been rushed to hospital for treatment while a third person is still missing. 

One concerned bystander described how bits of flaming debris such as "metal lids on buckets" were "blowing out of the roof". 

Jesse Bailey, who works next door, said the smoke billowing from the plant "smells like sulfur".

The State Fire Marshal's Office is probing the cause of the fire, NBC DFW reported. 

The chemical plant and a nearby lumber yard have been evacuated.

Two hurt in third SSGC supply line explosion in 20 days

Two men suffered burn injuries as a Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) supply pipeline passing under a general store in Hijrat Colony exploded on Friday. Civil Lines police station SHO Waqar Tanoli said there was an explosion in a shop in Hijrat Colony’s Sector D after which a fire erupted inside the store.

He said there were two men present inside the shop at the time of the incident, both of whom survived with minor injuries. The injured men, one of whom was identified as Shakeel, were rushed to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment and were later discharged.

The officer said a fire department team responded promptly to douse the ensuing blaze. However, there was damage to the property and the goods. This was the third SSGC supply line explosion reported in the city within a span of 20 days.

On March 7, a girl and a boy were injured when a gas pipeline exploded inside a barber shop in Shanti Nagar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The injured were a 15-year-old boy, Faizan Mustafa, and a seven-year-old girl, Raheela Yaseen. Both children survived the explosion without serious injuries.

Prior to that, on February 21, a six-year-old girl was killed and five members of her family were injured when a portion of their house in Nusrat Bhutto Colony collapsed after a gas pipeline exploded.

Page One Anchor: Three die as chemical reactor explodes at industrial unit in Tarapur

Blast late on Thursday night triggered fires and explosions in neighbouring factories and fire-fighting continued on Friday; at least 3 workers critically injured

Three workers died and 15 were injured in a massive explosion in a reactor plant of a chemical factory in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) industrial area in Tarapur, over 100 km from Mumbai late on Thursday night. The police on Friday registered a case of accidental death as operations to control the fire, which spread across six factories becaus of the blast, continued till Friday night. At least three workers are critically injured.

The blast occurred at 11.10 pm on the first floor of Novaphene Specialties Pvt Ltd. High pressure and high temperature reportedly led to an uncontrolled and unstable solvent reaction, causing a explosion. “The vibrations were felt several kilometers away. It felt like an earthquake. Windowpanes in Boisar police station (about 3 km from the spot) also broke,” said Yogesh Chauhan, who holds additional charge of senior inspector at MIDC police station. Local people recounted that the explosion was followed by over 20 smaller explosions as the fire spread to chemical tankers of adjoining factories.

From Novaphene, the fire spread to other units — Aarti Drugs, Prachi Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, Bharat Rasayan, Unimax Chemicals and Darbar Industries within two hours. Workers from those in Aarti, Prachi, Novaphene and other factories managed to escape. MIDC police at Tarapur have registered an FIR against Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) under Section 56 and 57 of Disaster Management Act 2005 after collector’s instructions.

The Collector asked BARC to provide fire brigade service on Thursday night and allegedly got no aid from BARC in the Tarapur plant fire case. “It is violation of the National Disaster Act. We expected atomic plant to aid in fire fighting,” he told The Indian Express. In addition, the collector has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the blast. Of the 15 injured, eight have been admitted to Vikas Hospital, five in Thunga and two in Anand Hospital. The deceased — Alok Nath, Chandpratap Agadia and Pintu Kumar Gautam — have been identified as workers of Aarti Drugs.

Police are investigating whether excessive quantity was added to the reactor. “We are also checking if there were procedural violations,” said police inspector Chauhan of the MIDC police.

Police findings suggest seven workers at Novaphene Ltd fled the building as soon as they realised the reactor was becoming
unstable and was beyond their control. The explosion’s intensity shattered window panes in the entire lane, ripped overhead cables, damaged walls and started the fires in the adjoining factories where tankers filled with solvents kept exploding till 5 am on Friday.

One of the workers, Sandeep Agadia (21), was on the second floor of Aarti Drugs when the explosion occurred. “We could smell gas leak and see smoke before the blast. Suddenly, one side of the wall exploded and a shower of bricks flew at us. All of us ran out,” he said. His younger brother Chandpratap (19) was sipping tea with Pintu and Alok on the first floor. The blast’s impact killed them. The post-mortem findings showed they suffered no burn injuries. “Injuries were blunt trauma, they were blown by the blast’s impact,” a police officer said.

The three were taken to Tarapur primary health centre for post-mortem. While Chandpratap’s body was taken to their village in Palghar, Alok and Pintu’s bodies are slated to be transported to Madhya Pradesh where their families live. Novaphene’s website shows that it manufactures specialty chemicals and cosmetic preservatives, dealing in high purity acid and acid anhydrides. Nonaphene has a manufacturing unit in Dahisar. Prachi Ltd is an iodine salt manufacturer, while Aarti Drugs manufactures vitamins and antibiotics and owns eight factories in Tarapur MIDC. These three units suffered the maximum damage. Eight fire engines and six water tankers were initially rushed to the spot. According to Palghar collector Dr Prashant Nanaware, fire engines were also provided by Reliance Thermal, the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation and the Tarapur Atomic Power Station. The call went to the fire brigade at 11.23 pm and the fire engines reached the spot by 11.36 pm. “The fire was too big to control. We allowed the solvents to burn out on their own to prevent another explosion,” said Anand Parab, the fire station master. According to Uday Dange, the manager at Unimax where fire gutted half the factory, standard operating protocol lapses are suspected to have caused the explosion. “Chemicals are always supposed to be handled with care. There must have been some negligence,” he said.

Throughout Friday, thick black smoke coupled with combination of green and orange vapours escaped from the burning factories. MPCB official Manish Holkar said, “A mixture of various solvents from different factories have caught fire. We know it is toxic but cannot comment on which gas is being released as the blasts were back to back.” Local people, police and the fire brigade took to face masks in the entire neighbourhood surrounding the blast site. Tarapur MIDC has over 1,100 chemical factories. Collector Nanaware said he had asked for a safety audit of all factories three months ago. “The report is still pending,” he said.

At least four people are critically injured as huge explosion obliterates Londis shop and the flat above in Leicester with passers-by battling to free casualties from the mangled wreckage with their bare hands

At least four people have been taken to hospital in a critical condition after a convenience store in Leicester was completely destroyed in a massive explosion.

A Londis store and the flat above it on Hinckley road were completely obliterated in the explosion with a spokesman from Leicester Royal Infirmary confirming that four patients were admitted to the hospital.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at 7.10pm and witnesses writing on social media said that locals were seen using their bare hands to free people from under chunks of rubble.

The destroyed building is in a terrace of shops, to the left of a takeaway called TJs, near a post office.

A Leicester Fire and Rescue spokesman said it was a 'pancake collapse'. 

One witness wrote on social media that emergency services were seen searching for people under chunks of rubble. 

All four casualties have been taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary, the ambulance service said in a tweet.

A hazardous area response team and ambulance crews remain at the scene in Hinckley Road in the west of the city, it added.   

In a statement, Leicestershire police said: 'Businesses and homes in the immediate vicinity have been evacuated and those affected have been taken to Hinckley Road police station as a temporary measure.

'Four people have been taken to hospital and we await an update on their injuries.

'The cause of the explosion will be the subject of a joint investigation by the police and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

'We would ask that the media and public do not speculate about the circumstances surrounding the incident but at this stage there is no indication this is terrorist related.'

At 7.20pm, Leicestershire Police tweeted: 'There has been a major incident on Hinckley Road, Leicester. All emergency services are currently dealing with this. Carlisle Street and part of Hinckley Road have been closed Please avoid the area.' 

The cause of the explosion is unclear at the present time but it is being treated as a major incident. 

According to reports, the explosion took place at Western Park Store, a Londis store on the street with a bus stop in front of it. Footage of the explosion has been circulated online. 

Photos show that the store has been completely destroyed in the blast, with flames engulfing the wreckage.

60 homes have been reportedly evacuated in the aftermath. 

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed a search and rescue operation is under way.

House explosion gravely injures girl, forces NW Dallas school to evacuate

Five people, including a child, were hospitalized early Friday when a house exploded in northwest Dallas, fire officials say.

Several firetrucks and ambulances were called about 6:30 a.m. after the blast in the 3500 block of Espanola Drive, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

By 10 a.m., a mandatory evacuation was ordered for the surrounding blocks and about 700 students at nearby Stephen C. Foster Elementary School, Evans said.

The students were taken to Thomas Jefferson High School, Dallas ISD trustee Miguel Solis said.

Five residents inside the home were taken to hospitals, including an 11-year-old girl, Evans said. Their conditions were not released.

A witness described seeing a family crying in the yard shortly after the explosion, huddled around the child, who was unconscious. Paramedics performed CPR on the girl as she was rushed to the hospital, Evans said.

Neighbors said the family had recently moved in after renovating the house for months. One neighbor said they still hadn't unpacked their moving boxes.

The force of the blast blew the home off its foundation, and the roof collapsed. The front yard was littered with insulation and other debris from the blast.

It was unclear whether there were any flames when firefighters arrived.

"The attention immediately went to the girl," Evans said, "and I don't recall hearing anything about the fire."

There were a handful of Atmos Energy crews at the scene, but a cause for the explosion remains under investigation. It was believed to be gas-related.

Inspectors were going house to house in the three blocks surrounding the blast, informing residents about the situation and telling them to evacuate.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit sent at least one bus to the neighborhood to assist residents who wanted to leave, KXAS-TV (Channel 5) reported.

Two other house fires were reported in the neighborhood this week.

 On Wednesday at about 6 a.m., a fire that was believed to be fueled by natural gas broke out in the 3500 block of Durango, a block away. One person went to a hospital for treatment.

On Thursday, a kitchen fire was reported on the same block. A man burned himself when the flames flared up while he was cooking on the stove.

One neighbor, Ignacio Aguilar, described Friday's explosion like a clap of thunder. By the time he made it outside, firefighters were already at the house trying to help the family.

Aguilar returned to the house on Espanola around 9:30 am to get a better look at the damage in the daylight. The roof had sunk in even more, and rain had dampened the debris.

The thought of three house fires in three days seemed to be on the minds of everyone in the neighborhood. Could their homes be next? Aguilar wondered.

Fourteen people evacuated after Yerevan flat explosion

"It felt as if a war had begun. At first we didn’t understand what was going on,” said one of the residents.

An explosion occurred early this morning at an apartment in a block of flats located in Vratsakan street, downtown Yerevan. The partition walls and balcony of the ground floor apartment have collapsed, and the windows of neighboring apartments have been damaged in the explosion. No casualties have been reported.

According to the neighbors, the apartment had been abandoned for a while.

The blast was so strong that the exterior walls split, damaging vehicles that were parked outside the building.

“I barely managed to run out of the house. I live one floor above that apartment so my entrance door was distorted by the blast. The shockwave was so strong that it blew out the windows and warped the door. It felt as if a war had begun. At first we didn’t understand what was going on,” said one of the residents.

Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. Experts who studied the damage assume that the device which detects gas leaks and automatically shuts off the gas supply was faulty. If it had been working the explosion could possibly have been avoided.

Municipal authorities stressed that it was just a preliminary report and the actual cause of the explosion still had to be confirmed. Kamo Areyan, the Vice-Mayor of Yerevan, said that they were dealing with the residents’ problems and were trying to restore the damaged part of the building.

The residents were very concerned with the restoration of the damaged apartment. It is located on the ground floor so if the foundation isn’t properly strengthened then, according to the residents, the apartment will collapse and the rest of the apartments will be ruined too.

Since municipal authorities couldn’t ensure the residents’ safety they decided to evacuate them. The Vice-Mayor stated as follows:

At least seven wounded as gas pipeline explodes, downs building in Karachi

KARACHI: At least seven people were wounded in a gas pipeline explosion Wednesday night here in the city's Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Geo News reported.

Among those injured are three women as well as children. All seven people have been moved to the hospital.

The fire in the pipeline caused a blast, which led nearby houses to collapse. Those affected were wounded due to the resulting debris and flames.

Residents of the area informed this correspondent that they rushed to help their neighbours because rescue authorities could not reach the scene of the incident right away.

They also stressed that the leakage was present for quite a few days and that despite having complained to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), no action was taken.

Hospital sources, however, added that two of those injured in the incident were in critical condition.

Manhole explosions in the Bronx cause cars to go up in flames

FORDHAM HEIGHTS, The Bronx — Multiple manhole explosions in the Bronx Tuesday afternoon caused a car and a yellow taxi to burst into flames — and knocked out power to nearby residential buildings.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. when the underground fire exploded through the manhole on Davidson Avenue.

The flames were so intense, at least two vehicles were destroyed. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within minutes.

The fire damaged Yaw Appiah’s taxi cab. “I parked last night around 1 a.m.,” Appiah told PIX11. “This is my main job. I have no other job apart from this one."

Con Edison is on the scene. Electricity was shut off to three buildings as Con Ed investigated.

No injuries have been reported.

FDNY Deputy Chief Jay Jonas said manhole fires are common this time of year due to the melting snow and salt interacting with the electrical wires — which ultimately causes the blaze.

Victim found dead beneath rubble after parking garage collapsed following gas explosion. Three others injured.

One person was killed and three more injured in a gas explosion in the Baka neighborhood of Jerusalem Tuesday, after parking garage collapsed as a result of the explosion, police said.

Ten fire and rescue teams were deployed to the scene of the explosion, and are currently searching for survivors who may be trapped under the rubble.

A police spokesperson reported Tuesday afternoon that one person had been found dead at the scene following the collapse.

“In Jerusalem's Baka neighborhood, at the scene where the explosion took place earlier at the underground car park, search and rescue units found one person under the rubble who was pronounced dead at the scene,” the spokesperson said. “Units are continuing to search the area.”

Authorities say the victim was a worker in his 40s.

Three other people were also found underneath the rubble, including a 62-year-old woman, a woman in her 70s and a man in his 70s. The three suffered light injuries.

A man and woman in their 60s whose apartment is in the building where the explosion occurred were treated by MDA medics and evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, fully conscious and without signs of external injury.

Senior MDA paramedic Rivka Or and MDA paramedic Betzalel Ben-Hemo said, "When we arrived at the scene, we saw large-scale destruction in one of the apartments and part of the ceiling of the underground parking lot that collapsed. A man and woman in their 60s who were present during the explosion were extricated from the scene.

"They were fully conscious without external injuries, we conducted an initial check in the area and evacuated them for further examination and treatment at the hospital in order to rule out the possibility of injuries from the blast. Searches are being carried out at the scene in order to confirm that there are no trapped persons in the parking lot. "

Police dispatched to the scene have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
