Fault lines, when adjusting, do not just rip apart one day during a dramatic earthquake. They most often creep. Laying gas lines along or across a fault line is asking for an accident of this sort. Fault lines are also seldom so clearly delineated that one can go a mile in this or that direction and avoid their action. Where a slip-slide fault such as the San Andreas will often leave a clear line on the surface, this is only the surface action, not what occurs in the rock layers on either side which can fracture for a long way to either side during any movement. The gas company, or the age of the pipes, will be faulted but in truth the finger should be pointed in many directions. The public, who insist on living at such a scenic spot, is to blame. Officials, who zoned for housing are to blame. The public utility company, for allowing gas lines in the area, is to blame. But this will change nothing, while man continues to live on the San Andreas, even as it awakens. EOZT

The danger from radon gas will not be increased as a result of the pole shift. Radon gas is emitted by rock containing uranium, which is degrading. In normal circumstances, where air can circulate, it is disbursed rapidly as is any methane created by decay of organic material. The danger from these gasses comes from confinement - being trapped in a mine, a basement, or beneath the permafrost. The dangers are well known. For methane, it is explosions. An accumulation of methane gas can be identified by the smell of rotten eggs, or as some have described it, dirty socks or cabbage soup. For radon gas the danger is lung cancer, from the continual exposure to the radioactive air. Radon gas is odorless and cannot be detected except by specialized equipment not in the hands of the average person.

In that the pole shift, or the Earth changes preceding the pole shift, can fracture rock and release pockets of either gas, survivors should be cautious about huddling in bunkers. You are safer out in the open air, or in a trench you have dug that will allow the pole shift winds to pass over you, but nothing to fall on and crush you. The fact that both methane gas and radon gas can accumulate in the bunkers of the elite is one of the reasons we have stated that they have dug their own graves. EOZT

Anyone watching the news, for instance the news on the San Bruno explosion in a distribution line close to the San Andreas Fault line, knows that gas in any form is a danger. Oil and gas refineries explode when rigid piping cracks. Oil or gas wells explode when the ground around them moves. And the gas distribution lines running under cities are no exception. They likewise will explode. Gas lines, whether along the street or within a home, are rigid. In some cases automatic shutoff valves can limit the amount of gas available for an explosion by sensing a drop in pressure, but this is always after the fact. The explosion has already occurred. Utilizing gas on a planet prone to earthquakes was a mistake to begin with, but man never thinks of the consequences when striving for modern conveniences. We have advised turning off the gas at the street, though when the street explodes and your neighbor's homes are on fire you are not likely to escape the holocaust. A better alternative is to live in an area where gas is not available, as in your rural safe location where you will be doing a form of camping while gardening. A campfire at night, for cooking and washing and a bit of friendly light before bed. Nothing explosive. EOZT

11 die, 300 hospitalised in Vizag after styrene gas leaks from polymer factory

A gas leak at a polymer plant in Visakhapatnam has killed 11 people and forced the evacuation of thousands of people in the 3-kilometre radius. The leakage of styrene gas, which causes nausea and dizziness, took place early on Thursday when the plant was preparing to resume production later today in view of the eased Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

In the villages closest to the plant located on the outskirts of the city, visuals on social media early this morning showed people lying motionless on the streets, at least two had fallen into the drains.

Elsewhere also, there were videos of parents carrying unconscious children in their arms on the streets and running to get medical help. Many others were seen dazed sitting on the pavements. Some more lay on the roads, a young woman among them was seen collapsing.

The municipal corporation tweeted that people in an area within approximately 3-kilometre radius of the plant were vulnerable.

The incident evoked memories of the gas leaked from a pesticide plant in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal in 1984. That incident, counted among one of the world’s worst industrial disasters, had killed 3,500 people.

In Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialled Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and promised all the help that he would need. Jagan Mohan Reddy left Visakhapatnam soon after.

PM Modi also called a meeting of the National Disaster Management Authority that he leads. “I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being in Visakhapatnam,” PM Modi said in a tweet before the meeting started.

According to news agency ANI, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) chief SN Pradhan said about 1,000 to 1,500 people had been evacuated by the authorities and more than 800 taken to hospital.

Most of the people taken to hospital were later discharged.

Visakhapatnam District Medical and Health Officer Tirumala Rao told reporters, around 2 pm that 300 people were still admitted to various hospitals.

Late afternoon, Pradhan told a news briefing in Delhi that 11 people had died in the incident.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced Rs 1 crore compensation for the next of kin of the dead besides Rs 10 lakh to people who have been put on ventilator and Rs 25,000 to those who were treated as outpatients. The chief minister also announced that a committee has been set up to probe the incident and the government was prepared to have the company shift to a different location if recommended by the panel.

Gas leaked at 2.30-3 am

The gas leak is reported to have been spotted around between 2.30am and 3 am at LG Polymers India Pvt Ltd facility at RR Venkatapuram area near Gopalapatnam.

Assistant commissioner of police Swaroopa Rani said many people who woke up to the pungent smell of the gas ran out. Many, mostly children and old people, fainted at home. Police teams that went to the villages initially had to retreat for fear of being poisoned.

Andhra industries minister M Goutham Reddy said styrene gas appeared to have leaked from the storage tank of the plant. It seems the cap of the storage tank came off and by the time the engineers sealed the gap and neutralised the liquid, the damage was done.

The company had been told to adhere to all safety protocols before reopening the plant after lockdown relaxations. “It is for the company to prove that there was no negligence on its part,” Reddy said.

South Korea-headquartered LG Chem said operations at the plant had been suspended because of a nationwide lockdown to stop the spread of the coronavirus outbreak and was preparing to resume operations.

“We are currently assessing the extent of the damage on residents in the town and are taking all necessary measures to protect residents and employees in collaboration with related organizations,” LG Chem, the owner of LG Polymers, said in a statement, according to news agency Reuters.

It said the spokesman separately said a night shift maintenance worker had discovered the leak from a tank. The cause of the leak is being investigated, the spokesman said.

Gas leak tied to Bloomington sewage district plant explosion; injured worker released from hospital

BLOOMINGTON — An explosion ripped through a boiler room Thursday morning at a Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District processing plant, leaving one worker with minor injuries. It took firefighters three hours to extinguish parts of the fire.
District Executive Director Randy Stein said an apparent gas leak inside the control and boiler room, between two digesters, tripped monitors at 25% below the explosive limit. An employee planned to take an air sample and check the monitors, but the building exploded as the employee opened the door, destroying much of the room and some wiring. The fire spread through the room and into the roof.

Investigators don't yet know what caused the leak or the explosion, said Randolph Township Fire District Fire Chief Randy Richards.
The injured employee was treated at a local hospital and released later Thursday. Two other employees at the plant were not injured.

“We’re still looking into what happened this morning, but we’re grateful that our employee was not seriously injured. That is the most important thing right now,” Stein said. “I also want to thank the multiple first-responders for their quick response.”

Two workers were killed and one

was seriously injured in an explosion and subsequent fire at a chemical unit in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Monday, an official said.
The mishap took place around 12 noon in the premises of Galaxy Surfactants, located in the Boisar industrial area, district disaster control cell chief Vivekananda Kadam said.

"Two workers were killed and one was seriously injured," Kadam said.
Some locals said they heard a loud sound from the unit around noon.
The injured worker was rushed to hospital, Kadam said.
On getting information about the mishap, a couple of fire engines rushed to the spot and efforts were underway to douse the flames.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known, Kadam said.

An explosion at Androscoggin Mill was reported Wednesday.
(CNN)A few people suffered minor injuries Wednesday after a large explosion at a paper mill in Jay, Maine, sent debris and plumes of smoke into the air.
The explosion at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay, about 70 miles north of Portland, occurred at the mill's digester area and caused a fire on the roof of that building, Sgt. Joel Davis of the state fire marshal's office told reporters.
"Fortunately nobody works in that area directly," Davis said.

No major injuries were reported, but a few people in the vicinity were treated for "minor respiratory issues" and released, he said.

A spokeswoman for the mill's owner, Pixelle Specialty Solutions, said more than 160 people were working at the time of the explosion but no one was injured.
Gov. Janet Mills acknowledged the explosion earlier Wednesday.

"I ask the people of Maine to join me in praying for the safety and wellbeing of all those in and around this historic mill. In this already difficult moment, let us summon the strength and resilience which has defined us as Maine people throughout our history and which has sustained us and carried us through our most challenging times," the governor tweeted.

A woman, who had been taken out of the building where the fire broke out, waited for the ambulance to arrive at the scene for a while. Meanwhile, fire crews intervened in the worsening woman. When the ambulance could not enter the scene, the firefighters carried the injured woman to the ambulance. He was hospitalized with 4 injured ambulances. It was reported that 1 of the injured were life-threatening.

ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. — An explosion at the Valero plant in St. Bernard Parish rocked the area and could be felt across the river in Algiers as homes shook and some car alarms were set off.
St. Bernard Parish Fire Chief Thomas Stone said one of the units at the plant in Meraux exploded around 1 a.m. and they were battling what he called a small fire throughout the morning.

Stone said the fire was contained by 3:10 a.m.
He said that one person was injured in the incident but it was non-life threatening. The nature of those injuries was not immediately known.
Flames were no longer visible in the sky by 5 a.m. as several fire units remained on the scene.

Several viewers sent in emails and made posts to the station's Facebook page to report an explosion. They said their homes shook and their car alarms were set off.

Eyewitness News has a crew headed to the scene and will update the story as more information becomes available.

Highway shut down, residents being evacuated after gas line explosion

ADKINS, Texas - Officials are working together after a ruptured gas line exploded near Adkins, Texas.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, patrol units are working with Wilson County officials to take down a fire, which started after the gas line exploded. The explosion happened in the 13000 block of U.S. Highway 87 East.
Officials with Wilson County have confirmed a gas line in between two homes did explode after lightning struck it.

We were told 100 residents in the area were evacuated and the highway has been shut down in both directions. All residents within a two mile radius were evacuated and those outside the radius have been advised to shelter in place with windows up.

Officials say they are hoping to have the residents back inside their homes within a few hours Thursday night. There were no injuries to either animals or people.
Wilson County officials are helping on their side of the county line.

An explosion in a coal mine broke the mandatory quarantine of the inhabitants of Cucunubá (Cundinamarca), near Bogotá, and mourned for the families of 11 miners this Saturday. After several hours of remain trapped, relief agencies also confirmed that there are four other miners injured and are being treated at nearby hospitals of the population.

According to the governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolas Garcia, the explosion is caused by “gas accumulation” where they were working 22 miners. “The mining activity was covered in the exceptions that allows the decree of the national Government,” he told THE COUNTRY the governor on the presence of the workers in the mine. The decree that regulated the confinement required by the coronavirus in Colombia excepted activities “that are strictly necessary to operate and perform the maintenance of indispensable companies, industrial plants, or mines of the public or private sector which by the nature of its production process required to maintain its operation without interruption”.

But the death of 11 miners is not the only one that has happened in the country during the quarantine period. This Friday, six other miners died after an explosion in a mine in Norte de Santander, border with Venezuela. Only one survived and was transferred to the city of Cucuta.

(MENAFN) According to a report by the NTV broadcaster, a gas blast took place in a building in central Istanbul causing the injury of at least 3 people.
As said by NTV, the explosion occurred on the fourth floor of a 10-storey building in the Esenyurt district on the European side of the Turkish city.
A statement by the Governorship of Istanbul said that, the blast happened from the building's natural gas installation.
The reason of the blast was not directly clear.

Catawba County: 60 homes damaged in explosion; no serious injuries reported

There were no serious injuries in an explosion at the OneH2 plant in Long View Tuesday morning, according to Terri Byers, fire education coordinator for the Hickory Fire Department.
The 44 employees on duty at the plant are all accounted for and are safe, according to reports from the scene.
The building, however, was damaged. A press release from Catawba County said the cause of the explosion is still being investigated.

Some nearby houses also sustained damage -- such as broken windows and doors blown out of their frames -- but no residents living in the vicinity of the explosion have been reported injured.
The county press release listed approximately 60 surrounding homes as sustaining mostly minor damage from the explosion. They have all been inspected by Catawba County building inspectors and City of Hickory fire inspectors, according to the release. Only one home has been deemed uninhabitable, and the owner is aware and is being assisted. Affected homeowners are advised to contact their insurance company to begin the reporting process.

Johnathan Wilson lives on 20th Street NW near the plant. He said when the explosion occurred everything fell off the walls of his home and many of his dishes broke. Thankfully, he said he didn't have further damage to his home. "It shook the entire house from left to right," he said. "I've been in earthquakes before, and I thought it was an earthquake." Wilson said the police came by to find out if he had any damage and asked him to stay inside if he could. He said they didn't say why he should stay inside.
Responders are monitoring air quality, the county release stated. Earlier, officials on the scene said emergency officials were monitoring the air in case there was a gas leak. The measure was viewed as precautionary but residents were asked to remain in their homes.

An explosion occurred this morning (April 7) at a plant in Long View. The explosion occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. at OneH2 Incorporated at 620 23rd Street N.W. The plant is a hydrogen and natural gas facility.
Catawba Co. Emergency Management and the Long View Fire Department have confirmed that all employees are accounted for. There were no injuries or fatalities. The blast could be felt from southern Caldwell County to Bethlehem in Alexander County.
Several departments responded to the scene. More than 40 employees were in the facility, which was evacuated. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Responders are monitoring air quality. County officials say there is no risk to the community. Responders remain on-site and ask that the area be kept clear so they can continue their work.
