The 38-story commercial building at 235 East 42nd Street was cleared around 8:11 a.m. after construction workers spotted two faulty support beams bending and starting to give way on the 21st and 22nd floors, according to the NYPD and FDNY.

Fire officials said floors between the 21st and 26th floors were sagging from the pressure.

All construction workers made it out of the building safely and no injuries were reported.

A roof collapse at a tutoring center under construction in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore on Tuesday killed at least 14 schoolchildren, police and rescue officials said.

Eight other children were also injured and were being treated at a hospital, senior police official Faisal Kamran said, adding that the owner of the tutoring center and another person have been arrested.

Kamran said rescuers were continuing to search through the rubble after receiving reports that more children could be trapped beneath the debris. He said the tutoring center was housed in an aging building and that the roof of an unfinished second floor apparently collapsed because of poor-quality construction.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari expressed grief over the collapse of the roof of an evening school building in Lahore. In a statement, he offered condolences to the families of the victims, prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and said effective safety measures were needed to prevent similar tragedies.

LEBANON, Pennsylvania — A Lebanon Co apartment building is condemned after a partial collapse on Monday afternoon in the 500 block of Lehman St.

The Lebanon City fire chief says it happened due to the age of the building and a structural failure.

A renter was inside at the time of the collapse. “It sounded like 2 lightning bolts hitting the premises, and we jumped up, we were like, 'what's that'?" she said.

The fire chief says a car parked out front of the home was ruled a total loss after getting hit by bricks.

COVELO, California — The Green Bridge over Mill Creek in northeast Mendocino County lies crumpled in the creek bed after collapsing Friday evening while a vehicle was crossing.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicle was crossing the Hill Road Bridge over Mill Creek when the structure buckled beneath it.

The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof amid the wreckage near the creek below. Emergency dispatch traffic said there was no need for medical aid at first.

However, more than an hour later, emergency crews were dispatched after the driver reportedly developed neck and chest pain and sought treatment after returning home.

North Kaneshie, Ghana — A major rescue operation is underway after a building collapsed at Avenor in North Kaneshie, opposite the Ashfoam showroom and adjacent to Melcom Plus.

The incident occurred on Sunday, June 7, when a structure believed to be a residential building and mosque suddenly caved in. Preliminary information indicates the building was still under construction at the time of the collapse.

According to the GNFS, 2 people have so far been rescued and rushed to the hospital, with one in very critical condition. Rescue teams suspect that at least one or 2 more individuals remain trapped under the debris.

The collapse of a Bailey bridge over the Kangsa River in Dhobaura Upazila of Mymensingh has cut off its road communication with the district Sadar, including Tarakanda.

The bridge collapsed around 4am on Sunday in the Goatala Bazar area as soon as a sand-laden truck got on it, said Dhobaura Upazila administrator (UNO) Md Mosharraf Hossain.

No casualties were reported in the incident. However, thousands of people, students, employees, businessmen and ordinary passengers on both sides of the river have been suffering as all types of traffic on the Tarakanda-Dhobaura main road have been suspended.

Built over the Kangsa River, this bridge is one of the main means of communication between Dhobaura Upazila, various neighbouring areas and Mymensingh Sadar. Hundreds of motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, pickups, small vehicles and countless pedestrians use this road every day.

Locals said that various parts of this old bridge had become weak, and had been in risky condition for a long time due to lack of necessary repairs or any alternative measure. Finally, it collapsed.

Local resident Abdur Rashid said that cracks had appeared in various parts of the bridge for a long time. “Although the matter was reported to the public representatives and concerned officials several times, no effective action was taken. As a result, the communication system of the entire area has collapsed today (Sunday).”

Another resident, Habibullah, said after the bridge collapsed, many people were taking a risk by crossing the river on foot as the structure fell into the dry part of the river along with the truck.

However, the lack of any vehicle access has created a major crisis in the transportation of emergency patients, students, agricultural products and goods.

Local resident Md Saiful Islam said, "It is urgent to arrange an alternative bridge or temporary means of crossing. Thousands of people use this road every day. If urgent measures are not taken, public suffering will increase and economic activities in the area will be severely affected."

UNO Mosharraf said, "I visited the scene as soon as I was informed. Officials from the administration and the Roads and Highways Department are at the scene. Steps are being taken to repair the bridge or introduce an alternative communication system."
