ALBANY, New York — A water main break sinkhole formed Thursday morning near 630 Providence St.

Officials say a car was driving down the street when the pavement gave way underneath it, causing the car to drop into the hole. No one was hurt.

AKRON, Ohio — 2 cars Friday night fell into a gigantic sinkhole that opened on North Howard Street in Akron's North Hill after a water main issue.

It was unclear when the first car hit the hole, but a city spokeswoman said the Akron FD received a call at 9:41 p.m. Feb. 13 to help people involved in the second incident.

Firefighters transported 3 people to area hospitals. All are expected to recover, the spokesperson said. At least one of the cars had to be towed from the hole.

The street collapse in the 1100 block of North Howard Street appears to have been caused by a break in an 8” water main that was installed in 1917, the spokesperson said.

Madrid, Spain — Travel chaos has erupted at Madrid-Barajas airport this morning after a major pipe burst flooded a crucial access tunnel and severed the Metro connection.

Thousands of passengers are facing gridlock and missed flights as the main artery connecting the terminals remains underwater.

The incident occurred early on Thursday morning when a pipe burst on the Avenida de Logroño, sending a torrent of water cascading into the M-14 tunnel.

Emergency services have completely closed the road to allow firefighters to pump out the floodwater, leaving the tunnel impassable.

The hole is about the length of a car.

LANCASTER CO., Pennsylvania

A portion of Pennsylvania Route 772 will remain closed until Friday, Feb 13, after a sinkhole expanded overnight.

The sinkhole now covers a large portion of the intersection of Route 772 and Locust St in Talmage.

The hole appeared on Tues after a water main break on the street.

ST. LOUIS, Missouri

Spruce St bw Broadway & Fourth St was shut down on Wed night as City of St. Louis water crews responded to a pavement collapse.

A spokesperson for the city’s Water Division told FOX 2 that a vehicle on Spruce Street traveled over an area of weakened pavement, and a hole formed.

Why the pavement weakened was not immediately known. The hole appeared to be approx 2 feet wide.

A water department spokesperson said crews were examining an area of roughly 27 feet by 24 feet to determine what caused the collapse.

Workers discovered concrete on top of water pipes and a 6” water main break.

It was not immediately known if the water main break occurred before or because of the collapse. The collapse did not affect water service in the area.
