The center lanes of Ygnacio Valley Road are closed in both directions while crews work on repairing the 16-inch steel water line. The City of Walnut Creek said Thursday that “traffic impacts are significant.”

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and to expect delays during the emergency repairs.

The cause of the main break is under investigation.

The city said a “small number” of utility customers near the affected intersection were without water service.
