BARTON COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — About 8:30 a.m. Friday morning reports of two trains colliding on a CPKC siding in the rural NW part of the county alerted E-911.
There were no injuries reported.
Mo. State Rep. Ann Kelly released a statement saying the two trains did not contain hazardous materials. She has spoken with CPKC (Canadian Pacific Kansas City formerly Kansas City Southern) officials who are working with MoDOT and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

We observed on scene Friday massive equipment working non-stop on removal and repair.
“CPKC train carrying grain made contact with another freight train stopped in a low-speed siding track [adjacent] to the main line in a rural area north of Burgess, Mo.”
— Mo. State Rep.127th Dist. Ann Kelly (R) of Lamar, Mo.
Burgess is a small unincorporated town, directly across the state line from Mulberry, Kan. They form a contiguous populous split by the state line.
The train crash is located 2 1/2 miles north of Burgess. Or 1/2 mile south of NW 60th Road. Roughly five miles from Liberal, Mo. and 5 1/2 miles from Arcadia, Kan.
Two tanker cars derailed on the stationary train. They contained a form of heavy bitumen, comparative to asphalt.
A grain hopper car derailed on the other train, grain spilling out, along with a locomotive.
CPKC contractors began arriving Friday afternoon to the area to work on the clean-up. There is no known estimate on when it will be completed. For now the main line is not operating through the area.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
