Color Cause: The green hue comes from nickel and magnesium atoms in the meteor vaporizing, which emit green light when excited by atmospheric entry.

Interestingly, Michigan skies were also primed for aurora borealis activity around the same time due to a geomagnetic storm forecast by NOAA.
