October 17, 2025, a playground collapsed at Zijiang School in Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, fortunately no casualties were reported. The Zijiang School playground collapse emergency response headquarters announced on Saturday that they have begun an investigation to the cause.

The emergency response headquarters confirmed that the west wall and some playgrounds of the campus of the school collapsed, and the corners of the west side of the Boxue Building (teaching building) were damaged.

Section of national highway collapses in Sichuan

A section of National Highway 317 in Sichuan province collapsed on Tuesday afternoon following a mountain slope failure, but no casualties have been reported, according to a statement released by local authorities.

The initial signs of danger emerged on Monday, when slope deformation was detected on the right bank of the Hongqi Bridge section of the highway in Maerkang city in Sichuan.

On Monday at 5:25 pm, potential risks were identified during a local inspection, Sichuan Daily reported. Upon discovery, the local authorities immediately activated an emergency response. Personnel from public security, transportation, and natural resources departments arrived at the scene for emergency handling. By 11:00 pm, all stranded vehicles had been evacuated, and warning signs were set up on-site to strictly control unauthorized entry, the report said.

Relevant departments also issued a traffic control notice to alert the public. Thanks to timely traffic control measures, no casualties were reported, the statement said.

The situation escalated on Tuesday. A video posted online shows that as the slope deformation intensified, it triggered a landslide, causing the underlying roadbed and the approach bridge to collapse. The collapse of bridge piers and decks has produced a large amount of smoke and dust.

Currently, there is no estimated timeline for the reopening of the highway, the statement said. All incoming and outgoing vehicles are required to follow the designated detour routes specified in the notice.

Bridge collapses in southwest China, months after opening

BEIJING, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Part of a recently opened bridge collapsed in China's southwestern province of Sichuan along a national highway linking the country's heartland with Tibet on Tuesday, local authorities said, but there were no reports of casualties.

Police in the city of Maerkang had closed the 758-metre-long Hongqi bridge to all traffic on Monday afternoon, after cracks appeared on nearby slopes and roads, and shifts were seen in the terrain of a mountain, the local government said.

South Korea rescuers recover 3rd body after power plant collapse, media reports say

SEOUL, Nov 9 (Reuters) - South Korean rescue officials pulled a third body from the rubble after the collapse of a large structure at a power station, media reports said on Sunday.

Four people remained buried with the authorities unable to locate two of them, the reports said, after Thursday's collapse of the decommissioned heating facility as workers were taking down parts of the massive steel structure to prepare for demolition.

The fire authorities did not immediately respond to a text message seeking comment.

Footage from the scene in Ulsan on South Korea's southeastern coast showed the structure mangled and toppled over, surrounded by similar structures.

Rescuers have deployed heat sensors, remote scopes and search dogs to assist the rescue operation and locate the other trapped workers, though their efforts have been hampered by the risk of a further collapse of the structure.

Jingdong County, China—Highway Collapse, November 3, 2025. 

A highway in Yunnan Province, operational for just three years, recently suffered cracks and collapsed into fragments following heavy rainfall.

On November 5, the government of Jingdong Yi Autonomous County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, issued a notice attributing the damage on the Nanjiang-Jingdong Expressway (connecting Nanjian, Dali to Jingdong, Pu'er) to "multiple slope collapses and roadbed subsidence caused by continuous heavy rainfall."

The notice confirmed no casualties or vehicle damage and stated that efforts are ongoing to clear and repair the expressway.

On November 6, an official from the Pu'er Municipal Transportation Bureau reported that the incident remains under investigation, with no major emergency repairs underway, and the reopening date of the road is yet to be determined.

Firefighters and Local Police officers from the I Gruppo Centro responded immediately to the scene, closing down vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the affected area to allow for safety measures.
The tower was already undergoing restoration work at the time of the collapse. Four people have been rescued so far.

A worker was seriously injured in the partial collapse. The man was pulled alive from the rubble and handed over to emergency responders. Three other workers who were working on the scaffolding supporting the tower and who were trapped after the collapse were rescued by firefighters using a ladder truck.

Originally over 50 meters tall, the tower now stands approximately 29 meters, due to collapses caused by earthquakes and subsequent urban development.

The Torre dei Conti stood prominently between the Imperial Forums and the Colosseum, symbolizing the authority of both the nobility and the papacy.

EUSTIS, Florida

A bridge collapse in the Spring Ridge Estates neighborhood of Eustis Thursday night forced the evacuation of 21 homes and left residents cut off from their properties as city crews and emergency officials worked to assess the damage.

The collapse happened just after 7 p.m., days after record rainfall flooded Eustis and Mount Dora, weakening the infrastructure.

According to Eustis Fire Chief Michael Swanson, the bridge began to fail as water eroded its foundation.

Residents were given just 15 minutes to leave and were instructed to turn off their electricity as fire trucks could no longer cross the structure if an emergency occurred.

“The bridge is the only way in or out for those 21 homes,” Swanson says.

The city also shut off water to the neighborhood after the sidewalk above the main waterline collapsed.

People flee, buildings collapse as 6.1 magnitude jolts Turkey

The 6.1-magnitude quake was centered in the town of Sindirgi in Balikesir province.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck western Turkey on Monday, leading to the collapse of at least three buildings that had already been weakened by an earlier tremor, according to officials. No deaths were immediately reported.

The epicenter was recorded in the town of Sindirgi in Balikesir province, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said. Officials added that the earthquake occurred at 10:48 p.m. local time (1948 GMT) at a depth of roughly 6 kilometers (3.7 miles).

The quake, followed by several aftershocks, was felt across Istanbul and nearby provinces including Bursa, Manisa, and Izmir.

Earthquake triggers building collapse

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that three vacant buildings and a two-story shop collapsed in Sindirgi. The buildings, however, had prior damage from an earlier earthquake.

Balikesir Governor Ismail Ustaoglu said 22 people were injured, mostly from falls and panic-related incidents, a common occurrence during quakes due to their physical and psychological impact.

“So far, we have not identified any loss of life, but we are continuing our assessment,” Sindirgi district administrator Dogukan Koyuncu told state-run Anadolu Agency.

Haberturk television reported that many residents stayed outdoors, afraid to return home.

As rain began to fall, Ustaoglu said mosques, schools, and sports halls were being kept open to shelter those unwilling to go back due to the fear of more aftershocks.

Sindirgi had previously been hit in August by another 6.1-magnitude earthquake that killed one person and injured several others. Since then, the Balikesir region has experienced a series of smaller tremors.

Turkey lies along major fault lines, making earthquakes a frequent occurrence. In 2023, a devastating 7.8-magnitude quake killed over 53,000 people across 11 southern and southeastern provinces and left hundreds of thousands of buildings destroyed or damaged. Another 6,000 deaths were reported in northern Syria.

Witnesses reported the ground “shook” when part of Alberton House — a building under demolition near Bridge Street — suddenly collapsed.

According to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, no one was inside at the time of the incident. Eyewitness Chloe Gallagher described hearing an “almighty crash” as dust clouds swept through the area.
