Active volcanoes (Sep 28, 2012)

"Of course all volcanoes will explode, as this is going to be a very severe pole shift. What about the months and years preceding the pole shift? It is no secret that Mammoth Lake and the caldera of Yellowstone are warming up, and the populace has been prepared for these occurrences by the movie Volcano where there, in the middle of LA, lava is bubbling up. In fact, there is a fault line running from the approximate San Diego/LA area, up into the Sierras, and this is liable to rupture rather violently during one of the quakes that precedes the pole shift by some months. Volcanic eruptions from that area in the Sierras can be expected. Will Mount St. Helen erupt? All volcanoes that have been active within the memory of man will begin spewing and burping and oozing, and many that were not expected to become active will reactive. "   ZetaTalk - Feb 15, 2000

NOV 13 :

More details about eq hit N.of El Hierro on Friday, which Jorge posted here;

A new earthquake on the Canary Island of El Hierro at 8,36pm on Friday evening, resulted in evacuating 11 homes in the Las Puntas area, and once again closing the Los Roquillos road tunnel. Some rockfalls were caused by the tremor, which was located off the coast of Frontera at a depth of 22 kms. It’s the biggest quake of more than 11,000 tremors to have hit the island since July. As a precaution, the Canary Island Government, closed the road tunnel overnight. It’s the main road between Frontera and Valverde, and was reopened on Saturday morning. Experts say the volcanic fissure is moving slowly towards the island, now at a distance of 1,800m, although they insist this was expected and the situation remains safe. Even so it is reported that half the population of La Restinga have now left their homes.

From AFP:

Surrounded by smoke, the volcano -- located in the eastern Virunga National Park -- was still erupting but posed no threat to locals or the mountain gorillas living in the park, said Congo's Centre for Research and Natural Sciences.

The Virunga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and, aside from being home to some of the region's world-famous (and critically endangered) Mountain Gorillas, at least 20,000 hippopotamuses live in the area.

According to NASA, which imaged the volcano using its Terra satellite, Nyamuragira last erupted in January of 2010. Even though lava flowed more than 21 miles during the eruption, the flow stayed within the park. The ash from the volcano, however, contaminated drinking water in area springs.

In 2002, the nearby Nyiragongo volcano destroyed a large portion of Goma, a city in the eastern part of the country. According to National Geographic, 350,000 residents were forced to flee when more than 15 million cubic yards of lava flowed over the city, destroying 14,000 homes.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/09/congo-volcano-eruption-nya...

Experts say an eruption on the north of El Hierro in the sea or on land Friday November 11, 2011 VIDEO
IGN does not rule out earthquakes of magnitudes higher than those reported so far on the island the Spanish Institute of Oceanography get the first images taken less than a meter from the volcano lava flow
LAPROVINCIA.ES / EFE El Hierro in the north could suffer an eruption. This was announced on Friday María José Blanco, director of the National Geographic Institute in the Canary Islands.
Blanco has said "winning in an eruption probability in the Gulf in the Sea" and does not exclude the possibility of an eruption on land, although this argument seems even more remote.

IGN director said scientists displaced in the zone do not rule out earthquakes of magnitudes greater than 4,5 degrees. Blanco also notes that during the day today have not been observed in surface phenomena but stresses that "the volcano is still emitting material in La Restinga".
The tunnel of Los Roquillos will remian closed.

NEW IMAGES. Researchers at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) have succeeded in taking the first images to less than one meter from the volcano's lava flow, aboard the research vessel Ramon Margalef.

There is plenty of magma deep in El Hierro as to think that the volcano looking for a way out in a place other than La Restinga. If at first it was thought that under the crust would be about fifty million cubic meters of magma, new calculations suggest that low iron can be up to a cubic kilometer of magma, that is, one billion cubic meters, that feed two different processes placed horizontally, one at a depth of between 20 and 25 km and another at a height of 10 to 15 kilometers. The most likely theory is now that they are independent, but may join at some point. Even recharging magmatic material from the depths could generate an eruption last considerably over time, can that for over a year.

The surface water pH has also changed, and has gone from a rate of 7.97 to 5.45 surface to five feet deep. "This decrease of three units of PH is that the media is supporting an acid concentration of a hundred thousand times higher than normal."

Chile, Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcano - Volcano continues to pump out large amounts of ash, Forcing Delays In Air Links To Chile

Despite being classified as a “minor” (menor, in Spanish) eruption, Chile’s Puyehue Cordon-Caulle Volcano continues to pump out large amounts of ash. This natural-color satellite image shows the pale plume blowing to the northeast of the active vent. According to SERNAGEOMIN, the Chilean National Service of Geology and Mining, ash rose to a height of 5 kilometers (3 miles), and blew as far as 300 km (190 miles) from the volcano. Wide-area satellite images show the full length of the plume, and ash covering the Argentinian plains to the east of Puyehue Cordón-Caulle.

This image was acquired by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) aboard the Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite on November 4, 2011.

Buenos Aires City's two main air terminals Ezeiza and Aeroparque faced flight disruptions and complications following ash cloud from the Chilean Puyehue volcano - affecting particularly Patagonia to the south of Argentina and links with Santiago de Chile, the capital.

Soar CO2 levels in El Hierro - CANARIAS Thursday November 10, 2011

The maps made by scientists at the Ramon Margalef show rapid growth of the submarine volcano of El Hierro. Only in the last four days, the volcano has issued nearly 5.5 million cubic meters of material

CO2 levels have skyrocketed in El Hierro in the last hours. If last week's rate of emission of carbon dioxide and was 3.5 times higher than normal, with more than 1,200 tons per day around the island building, yesterday the figures identified by scientists at the Institute of the Canary Islands Volcano (non-tip) already exceeded the 1,400 tons per day in a place where the emission is normal average of 340 tonnes. Over 900 tonnes of CO2 per day is considered an abnormal emission of carbon dioxide.

CO2 is the first gas that emerges from the depths in a volcanic eruption and could mean that the magma moves with intensity in search of an exit. Normally, the release of CO2 is a warning of a possible eruption.
RAMÓN MARGALEF. The team of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) on board the ship Ramon Margalef, has observed the rapid growth of underwater volcano of El Hierro by maps made on different days.
In the first image on the left shows the morphology of the area on October 24, 14 days after the eruption began and the second represents the same area four days later and it can be seen considerable growth both cone and the volcanic casting.
By overlaying the two maps, the researchers were able to estimate that only in these four days the volcano issued nearly 5.5 million cubic meters of material

Than you Sevan

The bubble of La Restinga is reactivated and magmatic material ejected Monday November 7, 2011

The bubbling back with force to the volcanic spot of the Sea of calms. The sea water on the volcano is 11 degrees warmer
LPROVINCIA.ES / Reuters The spot is in the process of boiling. About 10.50 am on Monday, the bubbling began intensively in the Sea of Calm. As reported by Pedro Guerra, Special Envoy of the Province / DLP to El Hierro, the diameter of the spot off the coast of La Restinga is higher than yesterday and this more active.

In addition, the bubble in the spot has begun to expel material bubbling magma and has gained strength.

Abnormal temperatures. Scientists at the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER) in Tenerife have detected a difference of more than 11 degrees Celsius from the temperature of water in the Sea of Calm and south of La Restinga, which shows the underwater volcanic eruption El Hierro.
As indicated in a statement today Cabildo de Tenerife, which owns the ITER, the observations yield the greatest temperature anomalies associated with the most obvious surface manifestation of the underwater eruption was recorded south of La Restinga, El Hierro
Specifically, the difference in temperature at the surface marine environment south of La Restinga using thermal imaging cameras in position is the largest air mobile detected so far: more than 11 degrees Celsius.
Water temperature in the surface environment of the Sea Calm, which is not affected strongly by the eruptive activity, has been 23.9 degrees Celsius, while recording the water temperature in the area where the event is observed most obvious shallow submarine eruption reaches the 35.3 degrees Celsius.

This temperature difference in the surface environment of the Calm Sea clearly reflects a major heat flow as a result of submarine eruption, he adds.

Measurements were made yesterday with the help of Helicopter Service of the Guardia Civil in the framework of a collaboration between the Institute of the Canary Islands and volcanological Air Sector Civil Guard on the islands to strengthen the geophysical program (thermometry and thermography ) for volcanic surveillance.

The CO2 emission rate in El Hierro is 3.5 times the normal average Sunday November 6, 2011

The INVOLCAN confirmed that the rate is the highest recorded since the beginning of the volcanic crisis. The diffuse emission of carbon dioxide is one of the parameters of a volcanic eruption precursor
The registration of the diffuse emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) by the volcano island of El Hierro from July 21 to date ranges from 331 to 1218 ± 16 ± 46 tonnes per day. Following the work of diffuse emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) made by the group El Hierro volcanological ITER since 1997, now within the non-tip, has been established that the average value of the diffuse emission dioxide (CO2) by the volcano island of El Hierro is 345 tons per day. On October 6, 2011 and prior to the submarine eruption occurred southwest of La Restinga diffuse emission rate of carbon dioxide (CO2) reached 990 ± 49 tons per day, an emission rate 2.8 times higher than average normal. Recent results show that the emission rate is about 3.5 times the normal average.

EL HIERRO - CANARIAS

The volcano appears and forced to evacuate for the second time La Restinga Saturday November 5, 2011

There has been an explosion of magmatic material that rose above the water about 20 meters

LAPROVINCIA.ES La Restinga's neighbors must abandon their homes in the decision of the Civil Protection Plan for Volcanic Risk Islands (PEVOLCA) to evacuate the area. An explosion with magmatic material that rose above the water about 20 meters in the area of La Restinga has been the cause that has motivated this measure. It is the second time since the crisis began seismic iron that the town suffers an evacuation, since he was evicted between 12 and 21 October.
According to a statement provided by the Government of the Canaries, the decision was taken "after observing changes in the eruptive phenomenon, as has been seen with ash plumes in the area"
Scientists in the area have confirmed that witnessed the departure of magmatic material, which rose above the surface at least 20 meters.
El Hierro remains on yellow alert even expected earthquakes up to 4.6 degrees. Among the measures it has taken on Saturday PEVOLCA also consider the closure of tunnels Roquille that connects the municipalities of Valverde and Frontera islanders and various roads in the north of El Hierro, the danger of landslides occurring

EL HIERRO- CANARIAS awakens with two strong shocks Saturday November 5, 2011
IGN this morning recorded two earthquakes of 3.5 and 3.9 degrees - Eleven families evicted - The Pevolca meets at 12.00 to assess the situation after the 4.4 earthquake yesterday - The Roquille remains open under surveillance
EFE Residents of the Canary island of El Hierro have felt two earthquakes today, with magnitude of 3.5 and 3.9 degrees on the Richter scale were recorded at 09.05 and 09.44 hours reported by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) in its website.
These two earthquakes have occurred northwest of the town of Frontera El Hierro in the north of the island, and both have been found to twenty kilometers deep, said the National Geographic Institute.
Of the fourteen earthquakes have been recorded today by the National Geographic Institute thirteen have been found in waters near the town of Frontera and one in El Pinar, this town in the south of El Hierro.

The registered southwest of El Pinar occurred at 00.16 with intensity 3.6 on the Richter scale and seven miles deep.
These earthquakes have been recorded after yesterday one of 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale would lead to close again Roquille The tunnel, which connects the town of Frontera, Valverde.

The landslides that occurred during this earthquake also led authorities to evacuate homes in the neighborhood eleven stitches, in the town of Frontera.

An earthquake of 4.4 degrees shakes the population of the three municipalities islanders as is also felt in La Gomera and Tenerife -
At least three eruptive mouths perfectly aligned in the direction of La Restinga now expel magma in the eruption that occurs in El Hierro since last October 10
As soon magmatic material coming from the south as the earth trembled to the north with an intensity greater than 4 degrees on the Richter scale
In the south, at La Restinga, where last October 10 a mouth opened in a fissure eruption by magma found, the material began to precipitate out more to the point where it opened, at least two eruptive new mouths .
In the north, in Frontera, The shock arrived at 20.36 hours with an earthquake that could be felt even in La Gomera and Tenerife.
earthquakes form two distinct groups in terms of the depth of those concerns. On the one hand, one group would be between 20 and 25 km depth while the closest to the surface would be between 10 and 15 kilometers. According to scientists, still too far to think of an impending eruption, even though an earthquake like last night can startle people.
