Active volcanoes (Sep 28, 2012)
"Of course all volcanoes will explode, as this is going to be a very severe pole shift. What about the months and years preceding the pole shift? It is no secret that Mammoth Lake and the caldera of Yellowstone are warming up, and the populace has been prepared for these occurrences by the movie Volcano where there, in the middle of LA, lava is bubbling up. In fact, there is a fault line running from the approximate San Diego/LA area, up into the Sierras, and this is liable to rupture rather violently during one of the quakes that precedes the pole shift by some months. Volcanic eruptions from that area in the Sierras can be expected. Will Mount St. Helen erupt? All volcanoes that have been active within the memory of man will begin spewing and burping and oozing, and many that were not expected to become active will reactive. " ZetaTalk - Feb 15, 2000

Underwater volcano in Black Sea damaged 160km of fiber-optic cable
05.01.13. The eruption of an underwater volcano damaged undersea Poti-Novorossiysk-Sochi fiber-optic cable. Presumably the 160-kilometer-long cable is broken in four places.

Powerful Eruptions Continue on Stromboli (Jan 14)
Increased eruptions from Stromboli sparked fear among inhabitants but geophysicists said the situation was under control.
Strong explosive eruptions from the main NE vent continue to occur at intervals of 30 minutes approximately.
Another collapse of parts of the northern crater rim occurred today around 14:30 local time. Lava continued to issue from the NE cone and forms a lava flow with currently 3 branches, one of which reaches about 400 m elevation. Glowing rockfalls reach the sea.
During the afternoon, small pyroclastic flows generated by material sliding down the Sciara could be seen.
The volcano is active but on Monday there was a particularly powerful eruption and sustained lava flows following four days of heightened activity.
Stromboli is part of the seven-island Eolian Archipelago just off Sicily in southern Italy.

Russian Volcano Creates Unprecedented Lake of Lava (Jan 12) The Plosky Tolbachik volcano is emitting jets of hot lava up to 200 metres high and creating a lava lake.
Gennady Karpov, a volcano expert at Russia's Academy of Sciences in the Far East, said Friday: "There were no lava lakes at Kamchatka volcanos before now. We have never seen this before."
Its last eruption had occurred in November after the volcano was dormant for almost 40 years.
Russian officials said the current eruptions are not likely to end any time soon.

Activity has been at exceptionally high levels recently. During a recent visit, we observed several active vents inside the crater terrace with near-continuous lava spattering and strombolian explosion at intervals of 10-30 minutes, sometimes rich in ash and sometimes ejecting small fountains of glowing bombs. The northeastern vent in particular has been producing powerful and bright explosions of very liquid lava, with ejections into all directions reaching several hundred meters in height and throwing incandescent lava bombs all over the upper crater slope.
These explosions occurred about every 20-30 minutes and caused loud detonations audible (and sometimes visible) in the village and rattle doors and windows.
A very bright glow could sometimes observed above the crater terrace on 30 Dec and suggests that there are intermittent intra-crater lava flows.

Hundreds flee San Cristobal eruptions in Nicaragua (Dec 25)
The authorities in Nicaragua have ordered the evacuation of about 400 people living near San Cristobal volcano after it began spewing out hot gases and ash on Tuesday.
The authorities also declared an amber alert covering 5 sq km around the volcano, warning of a possible risk.
Airlines were also told to avoid flying over western Nicaragua.
First Lady and government spokeswoman Rosario Murillo said 15 eruptions were recorded since Tuesday night.
The eruptions were small, but Ms Murillo said it was impossible to know for certain whether there would be larger ones that could put the population at risk.
The hot gases spewed by the San Cristobal volcano reached an altitude of 2,500 m.
Its ashes could reach 11 communities living in the vicinity.
The Nicaraguan army has sent rescue teams to the area.
San Cristobal, Nicaragua's highest volcano, is located about 135 km northwest of Managua.
(CNN) -- Chilean authorities on Sunday issued a red alert -- the most severe in their warning system -- that the Copahue Volcano, high in the Andes mountains on the border with Argentina, might be poised for a significant eruption.
A familiar threat to New Zealand air traffic is emerging from a mountain 10,000 kilometres away.
The Andes Copahue volcano on the Argentinian-Chilean border has started erupting, sending up ash and gas high into the atmosphere.
