Active volcanoes (Sep 28, 2012)

"Of course all volcanoes will explode, as this is going to be a very severe pole shift. What about the months and years preceding the pole shift? It is no secret that Mammoth Lake and the caldera of Yellowstone are warming up, and the populace has been prepared for these occurrences by the movie Volcano where there, in the middle of LA, lava is bubbling up. In fact, there is a fault line running from the approximate San Diego/LA area, up into the Sierras, and this is liable to rupture rather violently during one of the quakes that precedes the pole shift by some months. Volcanic eruptions from that area in the Sierras can be expected. Will Mount St. Helen erupt? All volcanoes that have been active within the memory of man will begin spewing and burping and oozing, and many that were not expected to become active will reactive. "   ZetaTalk - Feb 15, 2000

Mount Etna Eruptions Intensify, Town Buried in Ash (Apr 3)

The ninth eruption of Mount Etna in 2013 began this morning with loud rumbles felt over the entire eastern Sicily from Syracuse to Messina.  The explosions are perceptible even several kilometers away in the province of Catania.  The Strombolian eruptions are currently intensifying with the first high lava fountains, and the production of a cloud of pyroclastic material, which is being pushed by the wind to the south-east.

Zafferana Etnea, a small tourist town in the province of Catania with 9,450 residents, was hit by a heavy rain of ash and volcanic rocks by a powerful eruption on April 2 which blanketed the town in thick black volcanic debris.  Photos

Locals said they heard the explosions and felt violent shaking.  They said the air was humid, the sky went dark and there was no visibility. The Italian locals now have a massive clearing job to do as roads, gardens and rooftops were covered in up to ten centimetres of ash and stones.   Workers use special equipment to blow away the ash and collect solidified lava.

The damage was assessed “incalculable” and the region and the neighbouring municipalities have declared a state of emergency.  When the ash gets wet it takes on a cement-like quality and turns waterproof — causing flooding in streets and houses.

Right now is a significant rise in seismic activity sensors pick all of IGN in El Hierro. Because of that and its apparent size and importance, we recommend that the El Hierro population, to be alert to any statement that authorities could issue either by radio or television, also, remember the self-protection measures.

Post the seismogram and spectrogram images of the last hour.

Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador issued Monday lava fountains emanated in its crater and clouds of steam and ash, according to what reported Geophysical Institute (IG) of the National Polytechnic School.
In addition there has been ashfall in Choglontús sectors and El Manzano, in the southwestern flank of the mountain, as remarked Daniel Pacheco, one of the scientists of Guadalupe Observatory, which controls the behavior of the volcano located in the Andes , across the country.
Pacheco also noted that there have been loud noises as "bellows" that are common and have been heard by residents of the places near the volcano.
He called Tungurahua activity as "estrombolina" in reference to his behavior like Italian Stromboli crater, which means that throws hot rocks emerging from the volcano and fall and roll half a mile away.
The Tungurahua has about five thousand 23 meters high and is located in the Cordillera of Ecuador and 140 kilometers south of Quito, the capital.

Fumes From Montserrat Volcano Raises Health Alert (Mar 7)
Pungent fumes drifting over Antigua from Montserrat’s volcano sparked alarm yesterday, prompting disaster chiefs to issue a health alert.

The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) told OBSERVER media that staff had received a number of calls from concerned members of the public complaining about a stench of sulphur.

Director Philmore Mullin said a change in wind had blown gases from the Soufriere Hills volcano over to the island.

He advised residents with sensitive eyes, or who suffer from asthma or other respiratory illnesses, to stay indoors.

Sulphur dioxide is irritating to the eyes, throat and airways. It can cause a burning sensation, difficulty breathing for those with pre-existing conditions, and tightness in the chest.

Mullin said, “We received several calls from people complaining about a foul smell, something like sulphur, so I called our counterparts in Montserrat and they confirmed there had been a wind change and fumes from the volcano were now coming our way.”

He continued that emissions were not unusual for this time of year and that there was no immediate need to panic.

“If you stand outdoors long enough and stick your tongue out, you will definitely get a sulphur taste.

“People with respiratory issues may see some moderate attacks and if you have sensitive eyes, you could also feel burning.”

The NODS director said there was a chance the gas could bring on an asthma attack.

International guidelines suggest prolonged or repeated exposure to sulphur dioxide can be dangerous for people with pre-existing heart and lung diseases.
