CEBU -- The barangay council of Gaas in Balamban town, Cebu province has declared a state of calamity in the area following the evacuation of 60 families because of a landslide.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Central Visayas also found several cracks in the ground.

Barangay Captain William Genel said they need the calamity fund to help the evacuees.

Around 259 people were evacuated to the barangay hall, daycare center, health center, and other safer areas.

MGB inspectors have recommended relocation of residents from the landslide-hit community and the possible path of erosion, based on the cracks in the area.

The danger zone includes the Gaas Elementary School.
