October 17, 2025, a playground collapsed at Zijiang School in Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, fortunately no casualties were reported. The Zijiang School playground collapse emergency response headquarters announced on Saturday that they have begun an investigation to the cause.
The emergency response headquarters confirmed that the west wall and some playgrounds of the campus of the school collapsed, and the corners of the west side of the Boxue Building (teaching building) were damaged.

High winds to blame for scaffolding collapse in Bankers Hill

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - High winds caused the scaffolding of a ten-story building in Bankers Hill to collapse Sunday afternoon.
The building is located at 6th Avenue and Quince Drive. According to witnesses, a worker who was at the site warned people in the area to move away from the building when he noticed the scaffolding beginning to sway from the high winds. The scaffolding then collapsed into the street, damaging several cars and motorcycles in the area.
The worker had been at the site specifically to loosen the tension of the scaffold sails in order to make it easier for the wind to pass through the scaffolding. However, the scaffolding collapsed before he could complete the task.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews arrived at the scene and evacuated the residents of a nearby building that was hit by part of the scaffolding.
Fire officials say no one was injured during the collapse.

San Pedro Home Collapses Amid Stormy Weather

(Published Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016)A vacant home undergoing remodeling work collapsed in San Pedro, causing a gas leak that was quickly secured, amid Sunday's windy, rainy weather.
The collapse was reported about 6:30 p.m. at 733 S. Leland St., Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
No one was injured and there was no fire, Humphrey said.
Department of Building and Safety personnel were summoned to the scene, according to Humphrey, who said first responders are not tasked with determining the cause of the collapse.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department said though it wasn't 100 percent confirmed, the collapse was very likely weather-related.
The house may have shifted off its foundation, LAFD officials said.
"The gas leak was probably louder than the crash -- that's what made me call 911. I was just envisioning an explosion," Santos said. "I know they took the foundation out to fix it and they didn't reinforce it and with the wind and the rain, the house just shifted and fell back."

Runway closed after partial collapse at Hopkins
CLEVELAND-- Crews are repairing a runway at Cleveland Hopkins Airport after a portion of the road collapsed.
The airport is calling it a "pavement failure" and says it will have no impact on operations.
The other two runways will be used as crews make repairs.
According to the airport, this "normally happens during the freeze thaw cycle since it's a bit warmer."

Lucky escape for residents as Rome building collapses

Rubble piled up on the street below and cars were half-buried, but 10 families were safely evacuated from the building on Piazza Gentile da Fabbriano, near the riverside in northern Rome, and without any injury,Roma Today reported.
The fifth, sixth and seventh floor collapsed at around 4am in what one resident said “felt like an explosion”.
“We thought it was a bomb,” the resident told the newspaper.
Their lucky escape was down to an engineer who lives on the second floor. Alarmed by creaking sounds coming from the seventh floor, neighbours called on the expert for help.
She noticed cracks on the walls, and so alerted the fire service, who advised residents to leave the building.

Three-storey building collapsed on to main road
A building collapsed on to a main road in Dewsbury last night (Saturday).
Staff from Dewsbury Fire Station were called to the Stanbury Buildings opposite the Lidl store in Bradford Road at around 10.30pm.
The road was closed off in both directions because scaffolding and part of the building had spilled into the lanes. It is now understood to have been re-opened.
Firefighter James Hopkins said: “When we arrived the front of the building had fallen on to Bradford Road.
“There was a lot of unsafe scaffolding [in the road].”
It is not known what caused the three-storey building to collapse but Mr Hopkins said it appeared to have been part-way through renovation.
He added that the roof had collapsed and the front of the structure had then spilled out.
The building was one of 11 which the Dewsbury Regeneration Board earmarked for major improvements in 2011.

20 workers injured in slab collapse

Nagpur: A major tragedy was averted in Mouda when 20 construction site labourers were injured in a slab collapse but there was no casualties due to alert rescuers ensuring that the trapped victims were timely rushed to rural hospital after the mishap on Friday. Local police and fire brigade too learnt to have toiled to help the victims trapped under debris. It's learnt the incident took place at the construction site of Dr Anil Borkar where a slab was supposed to be erected. The slab caved in during construction leading to the mishap. The workers, engaged in the work, were trapped under the debris. The other labourers raised an alarm attracting attention of the local residents too who joined hands in the rescue act. Cops from Mouda police station too were informed. The matter is now under investigation.

Part of Third Street in Greenville collapsed on New Year’s Eve with the failure of a section of the Town Creek Culvert drainage system.
Third Street between Summit and Reade streets partially collapsed on the north side, including a portion of the sidewalk. Detours have been set up and the area is blocked off as a construction site as city officials work with engineers to determine how to move forward.
A gaping hole could be seen where the sidewalk once was, with a view beneath the pavement of the road. The collapse resulted in the double catch basins in the curb of the street to be pulled away and the road currently is undercut, making the asphalt unstable.

Riverside wall collapses under homes on River Arun
HOMES were evacuated after a section of riverside wall collapsed yesterday morning.
Fire crews, council officers and environment agency staff joined other relief staff in Arundel where a 30 foot section of a privately-owned flood wall fell into the river.
The dangerous structural collapse follows days of heavy rains and flooding across the county.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue told The Argus that boat teams from the service had been tending to the incident since the early hours of Friday morning.
She added that numerous agencies were working together to respond to the event, including the British Red Cross who were helping to look after householders who were taken from their River Road homes.
The Arun, which is tidal for much of its length, has a long history of flooding and significant defences against flooding and tidal swells mark much of its banks.
Its early name, “Tristantonis”, was recorded in geographical records dating to second-century Egypt.
The word means ‘the trespasser’ and is considered by academics to refer to the tendency of the waterway to meander across its route and flood land near the river.
Yesterday’s wall collapse worried Environment Agency staff who discovered bank erosion beneath the section of crumbling stonework, and worked by floodlight into the darkness to try to confirm the scale of the threat to homes and businesses after the three houses were evacuated.
A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “The Environment Agency and partners are busy assessing the damage to a privately owned flood wall that has collapsed in River Road, Arundel yesterday.
ADVERTISING“Our specialist staff are on site, alongside Arun District Council officers, to inspect the defence and assist with any flood protection measures after a section of wall collapsed.The agency warned homeowners across the county to remain vigilant as further heavy rain is expected this weekend and tide levels are as much as a metre higher than in December.

Worker killed in Altoona trench collapse

Officials say a man has died after a trench collapsed on him at an Altoona construction site Wednesday morning, but rescue crews are having trouble retrieving his body.
Sgt. Jason Ferguson of Altoona police said they were called to the site, which is just north of the intersection of 5th Avenue Northwest and Adventureland Drive, at 8:15 a.m. A man, working for a private contracting company, and a few other workers were laying utility infrastructure for the residential development when walls of a trench collapsed.
The hole is likely more than 12 feet deep, Ferguson said, and slick with thick mud. Des Moines firefighters' technical rescue crew worked for hours constructing a make-shift box from plywood and hydraulic jacks, but the walls continued to re-collapse during their recovery effort.
By 1 p.m., authorities called for an industrial trench box, a tool used in construction to protect workers from cave-ins, which was expected to arrive within the hour, Ferguson said.
Ferguson added that the workers didn’t seem to be using any kind of protection during their morning work. A trench box was at the site, but not in use.
“That’s why they make the trench boxes like that, so this type of thing doesn’t happen,” Ferguson said.
Excavation standards require that some sort of protective measure be in place, said Nissen Jens, administrator of Iowa’s Occupational Health and Safety Administration.
The agency did send an inspector to the scene, Jens confirmed.
“Our objective …is to determine if the employer was in compliance with the law,” Jens said. “If there are violations, then we issue citations to an employer.”
OSHA does have the authority to take cases of dangerous work environments to the local county attorney’s office, where prosecutors could decide whether to pursue criminal charges. But Jens couldn’t say whether that was under consideration for the Altoona incident or comment further about their investigation.
At about 9:35 a.m., the Des Moines fire department's tactical team were still in rescue mode, but soon after, officials changed the status to a recovery effort.
The southwestern-bound lanes on Adventureland Drive are currently closed to traffic between 5th Avenue and just west of 1st Avenue.
Linden Oaks One LLC out of Ohio purchased the 20-acre plot of land from Grinnell State Bank in October for $1.75 million, according to Polk County Assessor records. It's still unclear which construction company was working at the site when the trench collapsed.
Redwood Living out of Ohio is building a 107-unit apartment complex called Linden Oaks. The market-rate apartments were designed to look like one-story duplexes and aimed at people 55 and older, said Jeff Mark, Altoona city administrator. Initial site work being done was sanitary and storm sewer construction, he said.

(Photo : Twitter Photo Section)A 16th century Scottish castle is on the verge of collapse after chunks of soil were swept away by floods caused by heavy rains, leaving the building just a few feet away from from the water's edge.
On Sunday, the caslte's owner, 76-year-old Baron John Gordon, was forced to evacuate the A-listed four-story building after the River Dee swept away a large portion of the land behind the property, leaving it at risk of collapsing into the now-swollen river, according to the BBC.
"It moved a 60-foot lump of ground and took a lot of big mature trees," said neighbor Gordon Fraser.
After evacuating, the baron was forced to take refuge in Fraser's home before moving on to another house on the 11,700-acre estate, according to the Daily Record.
"He left the castle when the river was at its height," Fraser said.
The baron, too upset about the ordeal, declined to talk to local news crews.
"John is at his wits' end. It's not only a home. It's the heritage, the history. Nothing can be done while the river is in spate like it is," said another neighbor, according to the Australian Broadcasting Company.
Abergeldie Castle is located in Aberdeenshire and is an historic landmark. It was built by Sir Alexander Gordon of Midmar around 1566. It's believed to be haunted by a French serving woman named "French Kate" who was imprisoned in the cellars beneath the castle before she was burned alive after she was accused of being a witch.
In the meantime, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency issued more than 30 flood warnings on Monday in Tayside, Angus, Dundee and Aberdeenshire, as well as four flood alerts, as Scotland continues to clean up after Storm Frank ravaged the country last Wednesday.
