Active volcanoes (Sep 28, 2012)

"Of course all volcanoes will explode, as this is going to be a very severe pole shift. What about the months and years preceding the pole shift? It is no secret that Mammoth Lake and the caldera of Yellowstone are warming up, and the populace has been prepared for these occurrences by the movie Volcano where there, in the middle of LA, lava is bubbling up. In fact, there is a fault line running from the approximate San Diego/LA area, up into the Sierras, and this is liable to rupture rather violently during one of the quakes that precedes the pole shift by some months. Volcanic eruptions from that area in the Sierras can be expected. Will Mount St. Helen erupt? All volcanoes that have been active within the memory of man will begin spewing and burping and oozing, and many that were not expected to become active will reactive. "   ZetaTalk - Feb 15, 2000

Shiveluch Volcano Continues Erupting in Kamchatka (Dec 21)

Lava descending from the Shiveluch volcano in Russia’s Far East has raised columns of ash up to five kilometers above the sea level, scientists from the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) told TASS on Monday.

"Lava has descended today from the top of the Young Shiveluch. Columns of ash were raised up to five kilometers above the sea level," scientists said adding that there is no threat to settlements in the area.

The ash cloud is drifting to the east and south-east, with the plume covering the area of around 15 kilometers.

An orange alert was issued over the eruption of the Shiveluch which can spew ash up to 10 kilometers above the sea level at any moment. Airlines that fly near the Shiveluch are recommended to change their routes.

There are over 150 volcanos on the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia’s Far East, and up to 30 of them are active.

Volcanic activity summary over the past few days.

Mexico's Colima Volcano Remains Highly Active (Dec 16)

Moderate to strong vulcanian explosions occur every few hours.

Pyroclastic Flows Continue at Sumatra's Sinabung Volcano (Dec 16)

The volcano continues to extrude viscous lava that builds up the active dome with several overspilling lava lobes.

As parts of these break off now and then, large pyroclastic flows are being generated.

Kamchatka's Shiveluch Volcano Cover Town in Ash (Dec 16)

A volcano in Russia's Kamchatka region has spewed ashes, covering a local village with a thin layer of soot, the Emergency Situations Ministry said on Wednesday, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

The ash cloud from the Shiveluch Volcano reached 6,500 meters above sea level, the ministry said in a statement, RIA Novosti reported. The volcano is 3,283 meters high.

Winds carried ashes nearly 50 kilometers east of the volcano, reaching the village of Ust-Kamchatsk, where a 1-millimeter layer of ash fallout was registered, the report said.

The incident presented no hazards to local residents' health, the report said.

Continuing Ash Emissions at Indonesia's Bromo Volcano (Dec 15)

Ash emissions of varying intensity continue from the volcano, producing a plume that rises approx. 500-1500 m above the crater.

Volcanic tremor has been elevated with a tendency to increase during the past days.

Access to the volcano remains restricted, as the caldera floor around Bromo (and the cone itself, of course) are now off-limits.

Another Phase of Strong Activity at Guatemala's Fuego Volcano (Dec 14)

Explosions have become more intense and frequent, 4-6 per hour.

Ash plumes rose up to 1 km and loud shock waves accompanied many of them.

Two new lava flows, 800 m long, have started to head towards the Santa Teresa (west flank) and Trinidad (south flank) drainages.

This would be the 13th paroxysmal episode during 2015, and if activity increases further, dangerous pyroclastic flows are likely to occur in the coming hours / days.

In particular, river beds and valleys at the feet of the mountain should be avoided at all times, as these are high-risk areas.

Ash eruptions, quakes shake Kanlaon volcano

http://www.manilatimes.net/ash-eruptions-quakes-shake-kanlaon-volca...

TRACES of ashes were reported seen in some villages near Mt. Kanalon in Negros Province Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Kanlaon volcano produced a low energy ash eruptions at 09:51 a.m. and 10:08 a.m. Sunday that lasted for five and six minutes, respectively.
Traces of ashes were reported in Sitio Bais, Brgy. Yubo in La Carlota City on the western side and Brgy. Sag-ang, La Castellana on the southwestern slopes of Kanlaon Volcano.
Phivolcs said that although no seismic signals were recorded after the event, it generated a light-gray to grayish cloud of ash reaching a height of 200 to 300 meters which then drifted southwest.
Since Saturday, the volcano’s seismic monitoring network recorded four volcanic earthquakes.
Also visually observed were two low-energy ash eruptions from the active summit crater.
However, Phivolcs said these events were not detected by the seismic network, indicating a shallow volcanic source.
The first ash eruption occurred at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday. It produced dirty white ash clouds that reached 200 meters above the summit before slowly drifting southwest.
A second ash eruption occurred at 1:01 p.m also on Saturday. It produced dirty white to light gray ash clouds reaching 200 meters above the summit and again slowly drifted southwest.
Phivolcs said that background activity was characterized by the emission of weak to moderate white to light gray steam plumes from the active crater that drifted northeast to southwest.
Meanwhile, Alert Level 1 status remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, which means that it is at an “abnormal condition” and is in a “period of current unrest”.

Continued rise of magma in the Masaya Volcano - Nicaragua

The formation of a lava lake in the crater of the Masaya volcano crater Santiago has been obstructing this and you can perceive a sound like waves by the movement of volcanic fluids.

According to Rosario Murillo, the government spokeswoman, "there incandescence, there are small flames accompanied by a sound wave type, suggesting that there is much movement of volcanic fluids, gases and magma near the surface," so experts Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) and international experts who are in the country -a purpose of the eruptive activity of the volcano Momotombo- will perform field evaluations and measure gases

The geologist Eduardo Mayorga explained that the lava lake formation is a normal activity in a volcanic environment.

Mayorga said that "possibly there may be projections of fragments of magma to the surface of the Masaya crater floor because the crater is a flat, a fund, and the fund has a intercrater which is the smallest hole through which the gases then that may eventually be the odd fragment ejecting lava outside the intercrater and falling into the crater. "

Mayorga recalled that on 9 December there was an earthquake measuring 3 degrees on the Richter scale and only 0.3 kilometers deep in the area of Masaya / Nindirí / Ticuantepe, as recorded in its monitoring INET.

The activity in the Masaya volcano occurs 10 days after the Momotombo volcano in La Paz Centro, Leon, recorded the start of an eruptive process, after 110 years of silence.

Malang Airport Forced Shut as Bromo Erupts

Malang, East Java. Authorities in East Java have ordered the closure of an airport until at least Saturday morning, following a volcanic eruption blowing ash around the region.

All flights out of and into Abdulrachman Saleh Airport in Malang were cancelled as of 9:30 a.m. on Friday, with authorities only planning to resume operations after 24 hours, conditions permitting.

Affected airlines have had to refund tickets, reschedule flights, or bus passengers to Surabaya, a two-hour drive away, to catch a flight from Djuanda Airport.

The closure was ordered after Mount Bromo, some 50 kilometers east of Malang, erupted, sending a thick column of volcanic ash up into the atmosphere.

Volcanic ash can damage jet engines, and a series of eruptions at other volcanoes this year have resulted in multiple and lengthy closures, particularly of Bali’s Ngurah Rai.

Volcanic ash billows from the top of Mount Bromo in Probilinggo, East Java, on Thursday. Authorities have raised the alert level for the volcano to 3 on the four-point scale and established a 2.5-kilometer exclusion radius around the crater. (Antara Photo/Ari Bowo Sucipto)

Kanlaon Volcano (file photo)

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Oriental province erupted at 5:13 a.m. on Friday (December 11), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in its bulletin.

Four volcanic earthquakes were recorded in the past 24 hours, Phivolcs said, two of which were accompanied by a low-energy ash eruption which lasted for one minute based on visual observation.

The eruption produced a grayish to dirty-white cloud of ash reaching a height of 600 meters which then drifted southwest. Traces of ash were observed at San Jose, La Castellana on the southwest slope of the volcano.

Phivolvcs said the volcano remains at alert level 1 — meaning "it is at an abnormal condition and is in a period of current unrest."

It reminded local government units and the public that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.

Phivolcs also reminded civil aviation authorities to advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as airborne ash from a sudden eruption can be hazardous to aircraft.

New explosion of ash at Costa Rica's Turrialba Volcano

L. ARIAS

Costa Rica’s Turrialba Volcano, located 50 kilometers east of San José, erupted at 1:12 p.m. on Monday and launched ash and vapor into the air for about 10 minutes, experts with the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and the National University (UNA) reported.

This is the second event this month after another 10-minute explosion recorded on Dec. 7. also spewed ash and gases into the air.

Experts from UNA’s Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) reported the explosion reached just under 400 meters in height.

UCR’s Mauricio Mora at 2:30 reported there were no more explosions. Mora was conducting an inspection in the volcano’s surrounding areas and said experts are evaluating whether the explosion was an isolated event or is part of an eruptive process.

OVSICORI on its website reported that current wind conditions likely would take the ash west, and residents northeast of the capital – such as in Coronado and Sabanilla – could experience ash falling on their roofs and properties.

Turrialba Volcano has seen constant activity that in the past five years has prompted several evacuations of residents and farm animals.

Giant column of gas erupts out of Mexico's Colima volcano; authorities warn of falling ash

Posted Sat at 4:29pm

Mexico's Colima volcano has spewed a column of gas and ash into the sky in the latest of a series of intermittent eruptions.

Mexico's civil protection authorities said the column rose 2,500 metres over the crater before it was pulled by winds heading north-east.

The explosion prompted the civil protection authorities to warn nearby residents to watch for falling ash and to wear face masks when outdoors.

Located in the south-western Mexican state of Colima, the volcano — known locally as the Fire volcano — has been exhibiting continuous activity since July 9.

The Colima volcano, which is part of the Pacific's Ring of Fire, was also active in January and February.

Mexico contains over 3,000 volcanos, but only 14 are considered active.

Major eruptions in Mexican history have included the 1953 eruption of the Paricutin volcano in Michoacan, the 1982 eruption of Tacana volcano in Chiapas and the 1986 eruption of the Colima volcano.
