Active volcanoes (Sep 28, 2012)

"Of course all volcanoes will explode, as this is going to be a very severe pole shift. What about the months and years preceding the pole shift? It is no secret that Mammoth Lake and the caldera of Yellowstone are warming up, and the populace has been prepared for these occurrences by the movie Volcano where there, in the middle of LA, lava is bubbling up. In fact, there is a fault line running from the approximate San Diego/LA area, up into the Sierras, and this is liable to rupture rather violently during one of the quakes that precedes the pole shift by some months. Volcanic eruptions from that area in the Sierras can be expected. Will Mount St. Helen erupt? All volcanoes that have been active within the memory of man will begin spewing and burping and oozing, and many that were not expected to become active will reactive. "   ZetaTalk - Feb 15, 2000

Authorities in El Salvador have started to evacuate the municipality of San Miguel after the Chaparrastique volcano erupted on Sunday, shooting a giant ash cloud into the sky.

The government has issued a yellow alert and is expected to evacuate families within 3 kilometers (approximately 2 miles) of the volcano to emergency shelters. More than 5,000 people live near the volcano according to civil protection officials.

Civil defence director Jorge Melendez said: "We have implemented emergency measures to evacuate villages located within 3 kilometres of the volcano."

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries, although two people are being treated for respiratory problems.

Health authorities recommend breathing through moist handkerchiefs and avoid drinking water from local sources.

The eruption began at 10:30 am local time on Sunday morning and shot a column of gas and ash 5 kilometres (approximately 3 miles) high into the sky, according to El Salvador's ministry of environment and natural resources.

The government is monitoring the situation and searching for traces of fresh lava.

President Mauricio Funes said in a television address: "We are not certain there will be new eruptions, but we can't rule out that possibility either."

The Chaparrastique volcano, which is about 140 kilometres (86 miles) to the east of the capital, last erupted in 1976.

The volcano, which is about 86 miles to the east of the capital, spewed ash over a wide area and the smell of sulfur hung over surrounding towns, according to reports on social media. Authorities recommended breathing through moist handkerchiefs.

Santos Osorio, a member of a local coffee growers union, said heavy ash was falling in the area and local coffee plantations would be checked for damage.

El Salvador's crop has already been blighted by an outbreak of leaf rust that has reduced output in all five of Central America's coffee producers.

El Salvador has 23 active volcanoes and the Chaparrastique volcano is considered one of the most active, with 26 eruptions in the last 500 years, the environment ministry said. In a 1976 eruption, lava gushed from the volcano and it shook violently in another event in 2010.

Mt. Etna Eruption Closes Nearby Italian Airports (Dec 15)

Eruption: Lava spews out of Mount Etna volcano in Sicily, forcing the closure of a nearby airport.

The eruption of the Mount Etna volcano in Sicily has forced the closure of nearby Catania airport because of the plumes of ash billowing into the sky, airport officials said.

Twenty-one scheduled departures from  the airport had to be scrapped and 26 arrivals re-routed to alternative destinations. The smaller airport of Comiso in the area was also closed down.

The company that manages Catania airport, Sac, said in a statement on Sunday that "the wind direction and intensity" meant the ash was a risk to flights and it had to close off its air space. The company will review the situation on Monday.

Mount Etna: Plumes of ash and billowing smoke were a risk to flights.

Etna is an active volcano and eruptions are frequent but the latest activity, which began on Saturday, is the most intense in months. The lava flow down one side of the mountain is visible from Catania and Taormina, a popular seaside resort. Three small earthquakes were also registered around the volcano on Sunday.

Etna- SICILY ITALY eruption: psychosis earthquake in Calabria for explosions and tremors, live images from webcams

Sunday, December 15, 2013

It 'a night of fear in the central and southern Calabria, where the population is not used to this kind of phenomenon, in many centers is frightened by the explosions and tremors caused by the eruption of Mount Etna to the point of thinking it is an earthquake. In some places there are even those who ran away from home and is spending the night in the car. We have received many reports especially from the area of Tropea Tropea, in the province of Vibo Valentia, where the explosions caused by the eruption are shaking the windows of the house, as it does not happen even in Catania and in many other places nearest to the volcano. Meanwhile, the eruption continues with lava fountains modest compared to the most recent paroxysms, while it is clear that the lava flow slowly advances toward the valley. Compared to previous eruptions, it is - at least until now - an event weaker but much more enduring.
