Active volcanoes (Sep 28, 2012)

"Of course all volcanoes will explode, as this is going to be a very severe pole shift. What about the months and years preceding the pole shift? It is no secret that Mammoth Lake and the caldera of Yellowstone are warming up, and the populace has been prepared for these occurrences by the movie Volcano where there, in the middle of LA, lava is bubbling up. In fact, there is a fault line running from the approximate San Diego/LA area, up into the Sierras, and this is liable to rupture rather violently during one of the quakes that precedes the pole shift by some months. Volcanic eruptions from that area in the Sierras can be expected. Will Mount St. Helen erupt? All volcanoes that have been active within the memory of man will begin spewing and burping and oozing, and many that were not expected to become active will reactive. "   ZetaTalk - Feb 15, 2000

Asphalt Road Melts in Yellowstone National Park (Jul 7)

Underground heat from the park's volcanic caldera combined with the warm summer sun have melted a section of a road in Yellowstone National Park, forcing its temporary closure.

According to a National Park Service press release, "Extreme heat from surrounding thermal areas has caused thick oil to bubble to the surface, damaging the blacktop and creating unsafe driving conditions on the popular, scenic road, located off the Grand Loop Road halfway between Old Faithful and Madison Junction in the park’s Lower Geyser Basin."

The 3.3-mile-long Firehole Lake Drive is closed because the road has turned into a soupy mess, said park spokesman Dan Hottle. Yellowstone spans portions of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

The road itself is off Grand Loop Road between Old Faithful and Madison Junction in the park's Lower Geyser Basin, and takes visitors past Great Fountain Geyser, White Dome Geyser and Firehole Lake. The same heat that feeds the geysers softened the pavement too much to drive on.

"It basically turned the asphalt into soup," said Hottle. "It turned the gravel road into oatmeal."

The road was closed Monday and will remain closed to drivers until workers can scrape off the damaged section and replace it. A recorded information line updates visitors. Park officials also are asking hikers to stay out of the area.

Yellowstone sits atop the caldera of an ancient super volcano, and Hottle said road problems caused by underground heat and shifting Earth are common. "We see this kind of thing quite a bit," he said.

Kamchatka's Shiveluch Volcano Erupts Twice in 5 Days (Jul 6)

Shiveluch, one of the largest and most active volcanos of Russia's far-eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, has spewed a plume of ash as high as 8 km into the air, the Kamchatka Emergency Service reported on Sunday.

"The wind is driving the ash cloud southeastwards. There are no populated centers along its path," the report says.

Although no ash fallouts have been registered in the Ust-Kamchatsky district, rescuers have recommended tourist operators to cancel tours in the vicinity of the volcano.

It's the second ash plume ejected by Shiveluch since the beginning of July. On July 1, a cloud of ash shot up 7 km above sea-level.

The town of Klyuchi with a population of 5,000 is the nearest community to the 2,500-high volcano, 45 km away from it.

What's going on Etna- SICILY - ITALY ? New vent at the base of the crater of the North East [PHOTOS]

Sunday, July 6, 2014

What's going on Etna? Between last night and this morning it seems to have turned a new vent at the base of the crater to the north / east at about 3,000 meters above sea level where it should have opened a real break with explosions and a small lava flow just below the area of craters. In the coming hours we will certainly further updates from the experts INGV.

Recall that in these days there is extensive volcanic activity in Stromboli ,

Strong Eruption of Peru's Ubinas Volcano Causes Alarm (Jun 30)

After remaining calm in recent days, a powerful eruption at Ubinas volcano caused alarm among residents of the surrounding areas of Arequipa and Moquegua.

Orlando Macedo of the Volcanology Geophysical Institute of Peru in Arequipa reported that the explosion occurred at 8:58 am. The material was expelled from the crater formed an eruption column of gas and ash that reached 800 thousand meters.

He explained that since last Saturday, there have been hybrids earthquakes indicating magma ascent from the depths to the surface, so the authorities in areas surrounding the volcano were alerted.

The explosion caused the emission of gases and ash by wind are transferred to areas Lloque, Yalagua, Lucco, Escacha, Ubinas and Tonohaya.

Also, the specialist said that fumaroles increased at the Sabancaya volcano located in Arequipa Caylloma province, and the recorded daily fumaroles and earthquakes are more frequent at nearby Alvolcán.

Mount Sinabung in Indonesia erupts, triggering massive evacuation

JAKARTA, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Powerful burst of hot ash erupted from one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, Mount Sinabung in Karo district of North Sumatra, on Sunday evening, triggering massive evacuation, official disclosed here.

The eruption occurred only months after the volcano had erupted intermittently from September to February which left 15 people dead, more than 30,000 other internally displaced and a warning to aviation.

Sunday's eruption occurred at 19:29 p.m. Jakarta time (1229 GMT) with 4,000 meter high column of ash spewed to the sky, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of national disaster agency said.

The hot ash slid into southeast of the crater by up to 4,500 meter, he said. "Until now, the number of evacuee chalks up to 14,382 people," Sutopo told Xinhua via phone.

"The rise of seismic activity has been disseminated among people, hence the condition remains safe," he added.

Mount Sinabung is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the "Pacific Ring of Fire."

The volcano rumbled back in September 2013 after being dormant for 400 years. The Indonesian transport ministry warned flight to stay away from the path near the volcano

Intense Activity at Italy's Stromboli Volcano (Jun 29)

A lava overflow erupted from the NW hornito on June 22 and traveled approx. 200 m down the Sciara del Fuoco. This followed a particularly intense phase of activity at this vent, marked by frequent and strong explosions and continuous spattering.

Smaller, short-lived overflows have occurred from the same vent since, and activity remains high, with many explosions from several vents.

On June 29, a high level of magma causes continuous spattering and many strombolian eruptions from several vents on the crater terrace.

After 3 and a half years of quiesence, the Piton de la Fournaise Volcano has erupted during the early hours of 21st June 2014. This follows a recent surge in seismic activity.

On 20th June 2014, 179 seismic events were recorded between 13:00 to 22:00 local time. 31 rockfalls were recorded. At 1:35 local time in the early hours of 21st June 2014, two fissures had opened up on the east-southeast flank of the summit cone and an eruption begun between the summit crater and Maillard Crater at about 2300m in altitude. The summit area was closed to the public.

A helicopter conducted an overflight of the eruption and recorded a video. You can see the video in this link: http://www.linfo.re/la-reunion/faits-divers/646105-video-l-eruption...

The last time Piton de la Fournaise erupted was in December 2010 when the eruption lasted only a few days.
