Planet X was described as affecting the Earth from afar, like tugging on the edge of a spider web where the effects are felt elsewhere on the web; in this way there has been an increase in earthquakes and unpredictable weather going back years, even before Planet X entered the solar system, due to the increased swirling of the Earth’s core.

It is therefore logical that an increase in train derailments would accompany any increase in seismic activity – train tracks need to be straight and even the slightest shift to the side of a section of track would cause a train to derail.

The area most affected by train derailments is the stretch zone. Stretch zone quakes are silent, and people are generally unaware anything is happening, although signs such as booms and trumpet sounds can occur.

This zone stretches from Western Europe across the Eurasian Plate, and also includes the South-East United States, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Red Sea and the African Rift.

In other parts of the world, shifting ground is more associated with earthquakes that people are aware of, such as the Pacific which is compressing, so authorities inspect railway tracks after any seismic activity, reducing the likelihood of accidents.

Train derailment backs up traffic in Marathon, Alpine

A train derailment in Brewster County early Monday morning delayed train traffic until about 9:30 p.m. officials with Union Pacific Railroad report.

The derailment occurred at 6:20 a.m. Monday when a rail car loaded with pipe on a train going from Los Angeles, Calif. to Houston derailed about 10 miles west of Longfellow about five miles from the Brewster County line. UP officials said there were no injuries as a result of the derailment.

Train traffic was backed up around Alpine and Marathon following the derailment.

A total of 12 trains were delayed as a result of the derailment, but the line was opened to train traffic at about 9:30 p.m. said Mark Davis, a spokesman for Union Pacific.

Because of the rural location UP crews brought equipment from San Antonio so they could remove the pipe from the derailed car.

“Crews worked yesterday to place the derailed car of pipe back on the track and repair some track damaged as a result of the derailment,” Davis said.

Crews are currently working to reposition the pipe on two rail cars that shifted as the result of the derailment, Davis said.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.

WOODS CROSS -- Officials are investigating why three tanker cars derailed at Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions Inc. on Wednesday afternoon.

South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jim Rampton said the train derailment happened on the company's property at about 1100 West and 1750 South, not on the main rail.

The tanker cars, which are full of asphalt, were tipped at a 45-degree angle.

He said it is unclear if the tankers tipped while being brought in or while being pushed out of the area.

"The asphalt has hardened, and in order to get the product out, they will need to steam the tankers, offload the product and then get the tankers back on the track," Rampton said.

He said there is no public safety issue at this time.

His crews were called to the scene for a short time as a precaution.

WOODS CROSS, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A train hauling tanker cars derailed in Davis County Wednesday afternoon.

The tanker cars partially derailed at 1100 West and 1750 South in Woods Cross.

South Davis Fire officials say the tanker cars were carrying cold ashphalt, and that there was no immediate hazard to the public.
Woods Cross Police later deemed the tracks safe and gave the investigation over to Union Pacific crews. Officials estimated that it will take 1-3 days to off load the product.

Major train disruption between Manchester and Sheffield after derailment

Commuters on trains across Greater Manchester are being hit by delays after a derailment in Derbyshire.

Trains between Sheffield and Manchester Airport are being hit by 20-minute delays after a freight train derailed in Edale. Replacement buses are being used.

The delays are hitting First TransPennine Express and East Midlands Trains services.

Northern Rail trains between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly are also being diverted due to a broken down train at Brinnington, near Stockport.

Elsewhere, Arriva Trains Wales services between Cardiff Central and Manchester Piccadilly are running with delays of more than 90 minutes due to poor weather conditions between Pontypool and Abergavenny

32 train cars derail near Topeka

GRANTVILLE, Kan. — Workers are cleaning up after rail cars from two Union Pacific trains derailed near each other near Topeka.

Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says no injuries were reported when 32 railroad cars derailed about midnight Monday near Topeka between the Kansas River and Kansas 24 highway.

Davis says 22 coal-hauling cars from an eastbound train left the rails, causing 10 cars from a westbound train to derail.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation

Path train service between New York and New Jersey skidded to a halt for several hours last night after a fire caused all power to track signals to be lost.

The damaging blaze was an electrical fire that broke out at about 8 p.m. in an equipment closet at the station at Journal Square in Jersey City, a Port Authority spokesperson said.

Although power to the tracks was not affected, power was lost to all of the signals that control train movements throughout the system.

PATH officials said service was restored by 1 a.m.

Undercarriage fire disrupts Port Klang-Batu Caves commuter service

KUALA LUMPUR: A minor fire which broke out at the undercarriage of the Port Klang-Batu Caves commuter train caused service on the route to to be disrupted for a short while yesterday.

The fire department was alerted when the fire detected at 7.32am and it took firemen just 20 minutes to extinguish the flames.

KTM Berhad corporate communications unit senior manager Mohd Fazil Ismail said passengers on the train were transferred to another for their safety and to facilitate extinguishing of the fire.

“There weren’t many passengers on board and this helped in making the transfer of the passengers a smooth process,” he told Bernama.

He said the affected train was towed to KTM’s depot and that all its commuter services returned to normal thereafter.

He added that investigations were underway to find out how the fire started. Four KTM Intercity services were also disrupted following a locomotive derailment at 7.10am yesterday at KM704.50 (Kulai-Layang-Layang).

KTM said in a statement that the first train service affected was the ‘Ekspress Sinaran Timur’ (No.14) which was delayed from its original schedule and would continue the journey up to the Tumpat station.

“The second service was Shuttle (No.92) which was cancelled and the third, Ekspress Rakyat (No.2) from JB Sentral to Kuala Lumpur was also cancelled,” the statement said.

The fourth service that was affected was the ‘Senandung Timur’ (No.27) where the service was halted up to Kluang and the passengers transferred by Bus to the JB Sentral station, the statement said.

“The affected KTM train services were expected to resume fully at 3pm,” the statement said.

According to the statement, no loss of life was reported following the derailment and repair works were being carried out.

Train derailment causes major delays in Perry County

DUNCANNON, PERRY COUNTY—
A train derailment in Altoona, PA caused major delays in Duncannon Sunday. Norfolk Southern says a train left the tracks around 8:00 Saturday night causing major backlogs in Perry County and across the area.

Starting just after 4:00 Sunday morning, drivers were unable to get through Burley Road and another private road due to the stopped train.

Propane tanker derails; I-81 shut down, neighborhoods evacuated

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police have evacuated homes on the city's South Side and shut down a portion of I-81 after two tankers at the end of a CSX train - including one carrying propane - rolled off a set of tracks.

Route 81 - both northbound and southbound - is shut down from the split with 481 at Rock Cut Road to the 690 split in East Syracuse.

According to Onondaga County 911 dispatchers, the tanks have not released any gas. However, as a precaution, Syracuse Police are evacuating Berwyn Avenue and Benedict Avenue neighborhoods.

50 to 60 displaced neighbors are being sent to the Westcott Community Center. They will not be allowed to return to their homes tonight.

Police are considering expanding the evacuation area to homes west of I-81.

Syracuse Police say the incident will likely present significant traffic problems since the stretch is the most traveled in the city.

Police say fans going to the SU football team's game against South Florida at 8 p.m. may encounter changes in the traffic pattern since the derailment occurred near the university.

Breaking News: Neighborhood evacuated after train derailment

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Crews remain on the scene of a train derailment that forced the evacuation of dozens of homes in Syracuse.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday along the railroad tracks that run between Route 81 and Berwyn Avenue.

Police said two cars on a CSX train overturned, and one was carrying about 18,000 gallons of propane.

No injuries have been reported in the derailment, but officials are keeping a close eye on the propane tank.

Terry Williams of the Syracuse Fire Department said, "Right now the tank rolled off the wheels onto its roof. We have some monitoring equipment set up around it. Right now we don't have any leaks so we're just going to continue monitoring it, expand our evacuation zone and wait for the cleanup company to get here."

Route 81 has been shut down in both directions from the Route 481 interchange to the 690 interchange. Eastbound Colvin Street is also closed.

Officials expect those closures to last at least through the start of Friday night’s SU football game and potentially overnight or even through Saturday since cranes will need to be brought in to right the cars.
