Planet X was described as affecting the Earth from afar, like tugging on the edge of a spider web where the effects are felt elsewhere on the web; in this way there has been an increase in earthquakes and unpredictable weather going back years, even before Planet X entered the solar system, due to the increased swirling of the Earth’s core.

It is therefore logical that an increase in train derailments would accompany any increase in seismic activity – train tracks need to be straight and even the slightest shift to the side of a section of track would cause a train to derail.

The area most affected by train derailments is the stretch zone.  Stretch zone quakes are silent, and people are generally unaware anything is happening, although signs such as booms and trumpet sounds can occur.

This zone stretches from Western Europe across the Eurasian Plate, and also includes the South-East United States, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Red Sea and the African Rift.

In other parts of the world, shifting ground is more associated with earthquakes that people are aware of, such as the Pacific which is compressing, so authorities inspect railway tracks after any seismic activity, reducing the likelihood of accidents.

Two people are believed to have died after a freight train carrying chemicals crashed and exploded in Belgium this morning.

It had been thought no-one was seriously injured in the explosion after the train came off tracks near the city of Ghent.

But it has now been reported that two people have died, possibly as a result of inhaling toxic fumes from the explosion.

Belgian authorities confirmed they had evacuated nearly 300 people from nearby houses.

Train derails in downtown Lytle

Updated 2:50 pm, Friday, May 3, 2013

Crews work to clean up a Union Pacific freight train crash that took place in downtown Lytle, Texas south of San Antonio Friday May 3, 2013. Lytle Police Lt. Matt Dear said the northbound train mostly had empty cars and there were no injuries. The cause of the accident is being investigated. LYTLE — Twenty-six cars of a northbound Union Pacific train derailed Friday morning in downtown Lytle, a railroad official said.

No one was injured, and all the cars, which usually carry sand, were empty, said Raquel Espinoza-Williams, spokeswoman for Union Pacific.

The tracks are closed and UP crews will work overnight to replace about 400 feet of damaged rail. The line might reopen Saturday morning, she said.

It was the second derailment on the UP line to Lytle since October. That one involved three cars and also caused no injuries or evacuations.

UP had a crew working on replacing track somewhere north of Lytle Thursday, the spokeswoman said. Also within the last two weeks, crews were working on crossings in Lytle as part of a track replacement program between Gessner and Gardendale in LaSalle County, a 90-mile stretch and a busy area for fracking.

UP are investigating Friday's derailment. An investigator from the state Railroad Commission also was on the scene, because the cars went off the tracks close to a propane storage unit.

The train, with five locomotives and 101 cars, derailed on a street that runs parallel to Main Street.

About 8 a.m., a police officer came into the city's police station, about a quarter mile from the rail line, to tell Lytle Police Chief Richey Priest that some rail cars had run off the tracks.

“I thought he was joking,” Priest said, “and he wasn't.”

Among the businesses and homes that border the tracks is a propane company at Prairie and Railroad streets. The derailed cars grazed about 11 propane tanks, Priest said, which were empty. But they appear to have missed a propane filling station that can store more than 4,000 gallons of liquid propane, an employee with Lytle Propane said.

About 20 minutes after the derailment, the city sent a reverse 911 call to town residents telling them to evacuate, Priest said. Lytle Primary School had children loaded onto buses when officials determined the derailment didn't pose a danger. A second reverse 911 call went out, 20 minutes after the first, to cancel the evacuation order, Priest said.

The train was headed to San Antonio from Gardendale in La Salle County. Espinoza-Williams said she was not sure when the train left Gardendale.

The cause of the derailment is unknown.

By 11 a.m., spectators, some with cameras, have gathered around the tracks as trucks hauled away some of the damaged railcars.

Lytle Police Lt. Matt Dear said another work train was going to pull up next to the derailed train and remove the undamaged cars.

There were some traffic tieups Friday morning, Priest said, he doesn't expect any major problems until possibly this afternoon, when children leave school.

For now, he's just thankful the cars weren't carrying any hazardous materials.

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A train has derailed on the Saginaw-Saginaw Township line and several streets are blocked as a result.

Until further notice, Superior, Wheeler and Maple streets are blocked due to the derailed train. Wheel is a major thoroughfare. The site looks to be just southeast of the Saginaw Country Club. The street that runs parallel to the crash scene is Burrows.

The derailment happened late Wednesday afternoon. The tracks in that area run east to west.

Photos sent to TV5 show at least two cars on their sides, with their load -- possibly soybeans or corn -- spilled along a grassy stretch near a road. One photo shows a severe bend to the tracks near where the cars flipped.

For a more detailed look into the damage, take a look through the photos in the slideshow to the left of this page.

No timeframe has been given for when the roadways will reopen.

More freight delays as another train derails

Posted Wed May 1, 2013 12:29pm AEST

Tasmania's southern railway line is expected to be closed for most of the day after a train derailed early this morning.

The train was heading to Burnie when it derailed near Colebrook about 3:30am.

Six wagons came off the track, but TasRail says there has been no damage to the freight and no-one was injured.

Crews are working to repair the line but it is expected to stay closed until later today.

It is the sixth train derailment this year.

TasRail's chief executive Damian White says major track upgrades are scheduled to be completed by September which should minimise future derailments.

He says TasRail is working with customers on an alternate freight solution while the track is repaired.

Train derails outside Helena

Crews use heavy equipment to help stabilize and begin clean up of a multi-track derailment near Austin Road Tuesday morning. No one was hurt during the accident and the cause is still under investigation.

AUSTIN — A freight train derailed on the outskirts of town early Tuesday morning, scattering train cars down an embankment and on top of one another like pickup sticks.

No one was injured in the accident, but the Montana Rail Link line was expected to be out of commission all day, halting train traffic through Helena.

Linda Frost, a spokesperson for MRL, said they received word of the derailment, 13 miles west of Helena, at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. Thirteen empty cars derailed and another 12 cars parked on a siding — including three that contained corrosive material known as Piperidine — were damaged. Frost said the cars carrying the Piperidine were intact and nothing was released from them. The rest of the cars on the siding were carrying a variety of commodities.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but Frost said it appears that the 13 empty rail cars were eastbound and hit the parked cars when passing them. The accident occurred on a curve in the rail line.

Tuesday morning, at least two of the empty rail cars lay on their sides down a steep embankment, with the cover torn off of one. Others remained on the tracks, with one double-decker precariously perched at enough of an angle, leaning toward Austin Road. Crews used an excavator’s claw like a large hand to hold it in place.

“It’s a complicated situation,” Frost said. “A heavy equipment company has arrived on the site and will begin moving cars away from the track.”

She noted that they’re holding back rail traffic along the route until the tracks are cleared. Frost anticipated reopening the tracks Tuesday evening.

Gus Melonas, a spokesman for BNSF, said they were only minimally impacted by the derailment.

“At this point, BNSF has been able to weather the storm,” he said. “Fortunately, we have the Hi-Line operation, which is able to accommodate additional traffic. So we’re repositioning and rerouting over the Hi-Line route and will continue to do so until the derailment is cleaned up.”

TOGO, Sask. — Eleven people on a VIA Rail train are safe after a derailment in eastern Saskatchewan that appears to have been caused by water.

Via spokesman Jacques Gagnon said the train went over a section of track that had been washed out Sunday evening near Togo.

“Water basically … was undermining the track and it caused a slight derailment,” said Gagnon.

“I’ll characterize it as a slight derailment because no cars were [tipped over], they were still upright. There were no locomotives sideways or passenger cars sideways.”

The train was heading to Churchill, Man., from Winnipeg when the derailment happened.

The RCMP said in a news release that two engines and one car came off of the tracks. The Transportation Safety Board, however, said two coach cars derailed.

Train derails in Bridgeport

Posted: Sunday, April 21, 2013 8:00 am | Updated: 10:06 am, Sun Apr 21, 2013.

Bridgeport residents woke to an uncommon site - a derailment on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks going through the community.

William Weibert, a Star-Herald employee, shared photos of the derailment. Weibert said the derailment is near the community's train depot, on the tracks that run along Railway Avenue/Highway 385 in the community. The derailment is just a short distance from the Main Street/Highway 88 crossing in the community.

Weibert lives near the derailment site and estimated it occurred at about 5:30 a.m.

"My mom, Jonilee, heard the derailment," he said. "At first, she thought that it was thunder."

Cheree Fisher, chief deputy with the Morrill County Sheriff's Department, said 15 cars derailed in the accident this morning. The cause of the derailment is under investigation, she said, but no injuries occurred.

The crossing at Main Street/Highway 88 is expected to remain closed throughout the morning as crews bring equipment from Grand Island, Neb., and Cheyenne, Wyo., to remove the cars from the tracks, she said.

Andy Williams, media representative with Burlington Northern Santa Fe said that crews are hoping to have unblocked the crossing by this afternoon and the derailed cars removed from the track by this evening. Williams said there were a total of 124 cars in the southbound coal train.

Weibert said crews were working at the Main Street/Highway 88 crossing just the day before.

Train carrying nearly 200 people derails near Oakland, but Amtrak says no injuries

OAKLAND, Calif. — Amtrak says a passenger train carrying nearly 200 people has derailed near Oakland, but there were no injuries.

Spokeswoman Christina Leeds says the train was en route from Los Angeles to Vancouver, Canada, when the front wheels of an engine went off the track about 9 p.m. PDT just north of Fremont, about 20 miles southeast of San Francisco.

Leeds tells The Associated Press that the train was traveling very slowly and none of the 11 passenger cars derailed.

She says there was “very minimal impact” to the train’s 164 passengers. There are also 14 crew members.

Leeds says that the lead engine was removed and the train got under way again about 12:30 a.m. PDT Sunday, under power of the second engine.

Train Derailed by Landslide in Central Italy, 25 Injured (Apr 8)

A total of 25 people were injured Monday morning when two compartments of a passenger train veered off the tracks in central Italy due to a landslide, local media said.

The train, which was traveling towards the town of Perugia in the Umbria region, derailed when it hit mud and debris on the tracks as it came out of a tunnel, officials said.

Although the train conductor was able to swiftly brake, he could not avoid the accident, local television quoted railway authorities as saying.

One of the two compartments overturned, hampering efforts by rescue teams to reach the passengers inside.

The passengers, mostly commuters and students, were injured but not seriously. Some were rushed to a nearby hospital.

One of the two compartments involved in the accident remained on the tracks while the other was lying on its side, according to media reports.

Police and rescue teams were still working on the spot to ascertain the precise causes of the accident.
