Train derailments

Spain Experiences its Worst Train Accident in 40 Years

An increase in train derailments was one of the first symptoms of the approach of Planet X to become noticeable, being expressed even before Planet X entered the inner solar system in 2003.

Planet X was described as affecting the Earth from afar, like tugging on the edge of a spider web where the effects are felt elsewhere on the web; in this way there has been an increase in earthquakes and unpredictable weather going back years, even before Planet X entered the solar system, due to the increased swirling of the Earth’s core.

It is therefore logical that an increase in train derailments would accompany any increase in seismic activity – train tracks need to be straight and even the slightest shift to the side of a section of track would cause a train to derail.

The area most affected by train derailments is the stretch zone.  Stretch zone quakes are silent, and people are generally unaware anything is happening, although signs such as booms and trumpet sounds can occur.

This zone stretches from Western Europe across the Eurasian Plate, and also includes the South-East United States, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Red Sea and the African Rift.

In other parts of the world, shifting ground is more associated with earthquakes that people are aware of, such as the Pacific which is compressing, so authorities inspect railway tracks after any seismic activity, reducing the likelihood of accidents.

Five trapped, dozens injured after tram derails in London
Wednesday 9 Nov 2016 7:16 am

Five people are trapped and 40 people have been injured after a tram overturned in south London.

Police described it as a ‘serious incident’ at Sandilands tram stop in Croydon, warning people to stay away from the area where the tram came into problems in a tunnel around 6.10am.

Witness Hannah Collier said: ‘Heard a massive crash outside my window, now emergency services everywhere for the overturned tram. Hope everyone is okay.’

It came as heavy rain drenched the capital throughout the night.

So far it is not yet clear what made the two carriages overturn.

Train carrying chemicals derails in Calvert City

Posted: Nov 02, 2016 7:27 PM EDTUpdated: Nov 02, 2016 9:22 PM EDT

CALVERT CITY, Ky. -

WEDNESDAY, 8:20PM: Four of eight cars are now upright and away from the scene. Work has stopped for now and will continue in the morning, in daylight. As of now, the situation is being monitored. We'll continue to update this story as it develops.

WEDNESDAY, 6:43PM: A train was carrying chemicals when it derailed, causing eight of its cars to slide down an embankment.

It happened Tuesday night along the Paducah and Louisville Railway ...

The railway's president, Tom G

The railway's president, Tom Garrett, says four of the cars were empty and the other four were loaded with product. He wont say what type of chemicals were in the cars because of a confidentiality contract with the shipper.

Families in the area weren't notified about the accident until the next day. Garrett says it's because no one was at risk.

"There still is not a real danger to the public and because there was no leak of the cars, there was no release," says Garrett.

Garrett says crews have been working non-stop since the accident, making sure the situation stays under control.

"They are monitoring the air to make sure that there's no contaminates releasing in to the air," says Garrett.

By Wednesday night, they already had several cars pulled out of the embankment.

As of now, no leaks have been reported.

Garrett says chemical cars are built to withstand a derailment and the railroad crew is trained in how to handle them.

"Unfortunately, like any mode of transportation, there are accidents that occur," says Garrett.

If everything goes as planned, the derailment could be cleaned up by Friday morning.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Cargo Train Derails In Batu Gajah, No Fatalities Reported

Published on Friday, 28 October 2016 10:43

IPOH: A cargo train derailed along Kampung Bakap, Batu Gajah early this morning, throwing 21 carriages including two locomotives off the track.

Perak Zone One Fire and Rescue Dept chief Mohd Khairul Jamil said no fatalities were reported in the 3.43am incident.

The 41-carriage train was not ferrying any passengers. He said the cargo train from Kuang, Selangor headed to Tasek, was empty as it was supposed to collect a cement shipment.

The two train drivers were sent to hospital for treatment. "A small fire broke out at the engine.

Firemen were only allowed into the location after electricity supply to the area was powered down," he told Bernama.

Following the accident, the tracks headed both north and south were closed in order to shift the derailed carriages. Mohd Khairul said two fire engines with 16 personnel were involved in the operation.

Train Derails and Leaks Dangerous Chemicals in Superior

A Train Derailed and Spilled Chemicals in Superior

POSTED: 05:48 PM CDT Oct 25, 2016

SUPERIOR, Wisc

No injuries were reported as the result of the spill, and no residents had to be evacuated but the four car derailment did close a portion of state Highway 35 for several hours while a number of area fire departments responded.

Crews arrived at the derailment site just before midnight last night.

It is still unclear exactly what caused the train cars to go off the tracks but a coupler on one of the cars punctured a derailed tanker, causing a chemical leak.

That tanker started leaking octene, which is a very flammable liquid.

The leak was happening at a rate of around 6 gallons per minute until emergency crews were able to contain it.

Darryl Fiegle, the Superior Fire Chief, said "They've been doing an excellent job working hard getting this cleaned up as soon as possible without interfering with everyone's daily routine."

When crews arrived on the scene they first set up a perimeter to establish a safe area. They then called in the local hazmat team. As far as when things will be back to normal, officials do not know.

Fiegle said, "That's up to the railroad crews. It could be anywhere between twelve hours to three days. It depends how well they get chemicals cleaned up."

At this hour, crews continue to work on scene.

We are told people should not worry about any danger from the chemical leak but everyone should stay away while the clean up continues.

We will keep you updated as we learn more.

Crews are cleaning up after a train carrying nine grain cars and two locomotives derailed in British Columbia's Fraser Canyon this afternoon.

It happened at approximately 11 a.m. PT across from Saddlerock Tunnel on Highway 1, five kilometres north of the community of Yale, B.C.

Several grain cars ended up in the Fraser River in the accident which appeared to have been caused by a small landslide.

The cars are owned by CP Rail, but the track belongs to CN.

CN spokeswoman Kate Fenske says there are no injuries, nor were any dangerous goods involved. She says equipment is being brought in to remove the cars and begin a cleanup.

The extent of the damage is unknown. There are no estimates available on when the rail line will reopen.

Overloaded train derails in Cameroon, killing at least 53

In this image made from video, people walk beside a derailed train carriage after an accident in Eseka, Cameroon, Friday, Oct. 21, 2016. Cameroon’s transport minister says at least 53 people have died after a train overloaded with passengers derailed along the route that links the country’s two major cities. (Equinox TV via AP) (Associated Press)

ESEKA, Cameroon — An overloaded train derailed along the route that links Cameroon’s two major cities on Friday, killing at least 53 people and injuring more than 300, the government said.

The injured could not be evacuated until rail travel is re-established, said government spokesman Issa Tchiroma, adding that the death toll is likely to rise.

“It has been a sad day in Cameroon,” he said. “The president has extended his message of condolence to the families that lost their loved ones and asked me to tell all of you that he is concerned about your well-being and quick recovery.”

Some of the dead are still lying amid the overturned rail cars while others have been evacuated to the Eseka hospital mortuary.

Volunteer rescue workers, family members and others at the scene gave first aid as those stranded and hurt cried for help in Eseka, where the trained derailed and damaged the rail lines about 120 kilometers (75 miles) west of the capital, Yaounde.

The train that derailed between Yaounde and the port city of Douala had been carrying 1,300 passengers instead of the usual 600, rail officials told state radio. The accident came as heavy rains have caused landslides along roads in the region. A portion of the road linking the capital Yaounde to Douala had collapsed, so the 30-year-old rail lines were overtaxed, the rail officials said.

Eseka is hard to reach by road, and there was panic at the site of the crash where very few doctors and medical staff were available.

Health Minister Andre Mama Fouda, who flew to the scene with other officials, called on medical staff from neighboring towns to come and help and said that the government would take care of the injured.

No injuries were reported after 12 rail cars jumped the CN Rail Westlock Sub-Line just south of the Hamlet of Pickardville at approximately 9:30 a.m. Oct. 7.

According to CN Rail spokesperson Kate Fenske there were no dangerous goods spilled in the incident, only salt, grain and lumber.

Main access to the hamlet, which is Range Road 585, was closed until the early afternoon as crews worked quickly to open the line.

A large contingent of backhoes, bulldozers and assorted heavy equipment were dispatched to the site and were able to have the line open for train traffic by Saturday, Oct. 8.

“The guys have been working around the clock trying to get it cleaned up,” said Fenske Saturday, adding that the investigation win the derailment is underway.

She noted that as each investigation is unique, there’s no timeline as to when it will be completed.

The derailment follows an one near Camrose on Oct. 5, where eight cars left the track. No injuries or dangerous goods were reported in that derailment either.

According to the Transportation Safety Board’s website, as of Aug. 31 there have been 66 reported train derailments in Alberta this year, not including the two incidents last week.

This is the second derailment to occur within the borders of Westlock County this year — a train derailed near Westlock on Feb. 14 with no reported injuries or dangerous goods spilled.

There are approximately 310 industrial railways in the province, according to the Alberta Transportation website.

Under the federal Rail Safety Act, trains moving through areas with populations of 10,000 people or more have a maximum speed limit of 40 m.p.h. or 64 km/h. The speed limit for trains outside of populated areas is 50 m.p.h. or 80 km/h.

The 130-mile Westlock Sub-Line runs from Smith, through Westlock and terminates in Edmonton

A freight train incident in South Jersey, Tuesday morning, is being called minor derailment.

SKYFOX was over the scene in Paulsboro where Conrail said four cars of a CSX train slipped off the track between W. Jefferson and Monroe streets.

Freight train derails in Paulsboro, NJ  October 11, 2016
Four tanker cars of a freight train derailed Tuesday morning in Paulsboro.

No one was injured and nothing was spilled, officials said.

Three of the cars were carrying lube oil, and the fourth was empty, Conrail spokeswoman Jocelyn Hill said. The wheels on the cars came off the rails but the cars themselves remained upright, she said.

The derailment occurred around 11 a.m. on the Conrail freight line between West Jefferson and and Monroe Streets in the Gloucester County waterfront town.

The cause is under investigation. Initial reports indicate a bent rail was to blame.

"In the whole scheme of things here with train derailments, it was very minor," said Susan Jacobucci, Paulsboro's business adminstrator.

Paulsboro was the scene of a major derailment on Nov. 30, 2012.

That accident involved 82-car freight train crossing a swing bridge across the Mantua Creek.

As the train crossed the bridge, seven cars derailed, four of which fell into the creek. One car breached, unleashing 20,000 gallons of vinyl chloride, a carcinogen, into the atmosphere. The leak would eventually cause the evacuation of hundreds from their homes and businesses.

An National Transportation Safety Board investigation blamed human error and problems with the bridge for the derailment.

Residents, businesses, and first responders have filed civil suits against Conrail for the derailment.

#Lirr train derailment at merrillon Avenue

9:31 PM - 8 Oct 2016
The train was heading eastbound to New Hyde Park just after 9 p.m., and derailed a half a mile from the New Hyde Park station. The LIRR crew reported to the MTA police that they hit a LIRR work train. It is unclear if that work train was moving but witnesses say it caught on fire, with smoke then filling the commuter train.
The injured passengers were taken to area hospitals - none of the injuries are considered serious. Passengers describe the first responders arriving quickly, evacuating the train in an orderly manner. Still, many of the passengers were left shaken.
"I'm looking or trying to find out what happened, and that's when I saw the man who probably working, that he was he was trapped under the rubble. He was trying to free himself. He couldn't move - he was pinned," said Joel Werner.

The good news is that passenger says that worker was eventually escorted off the train, and appeared to be okay.

The commuter train had 12 cars, and the first three cars derailed in the accident. Approximately 600 people were on board the train at the time of the crash.

Many of the passengers say Hoboken was on their mind, and that added to the panic.
