"The causes of landslides are not a mystery to mankind. Layers of rock and soil such that rain running along a clay or rock layer can create a slippery surface for the weight of the layers above it is a common cause. A rock jumble from previous mountain building, broken or fractured rock easily dislodged. We have stated that the earthquakes man experiences between the periodic passages of Planet X can be considered aftershocks from the last passage, and this is true of landslides also. Mountain building rumples the landscape, so the land is not flat but has steep ravines and hill sides. Older mountain ranges are recognized for their rounded or smoothed appearance, because of frequent landslides distributing the rubble.

"As we approach another passage, another Pole Shift, the pace of landslides has picked up. Why would this be? Plates under pressure will put pressure on regions that contain rumpled hillsides and deep ravines, as these give more readily than strictly flat land, thus act as a weak link. In addition, due to the wobble, the weather has gotten more extreme, with drought and deluge increasing in extremes. Dry ground, suddenly flooded with rainwater needing to seek its level as runoff, will create internal water slides between the rock and soil layers that constitute the rumpled hillsides. Is there an early warning system that mankind could use? The trembles that soil about to slide emits could be detected, yes. These are not earthquakes, and have their own frequency. "

A mudslide swept through a house in Brazzano di Cormons, in the Gorizia area, during the night. One person was extracted alive from the rubble by the fire brigade, assisted by Civil Defence volunteers, who are searching for two missing persons: a 35-year-old young man and an elderly woman. According to the police, 'the man was swept away while he was rescuing the woman who was trapped by the mud, although the circumstance is still to be verified. The search is continuing relentlessly,' explained the prefect of Gorizia, Ester Fedullo. 'We have cleared the entire area,' she added, 'and the rescuers are dealing with the flooding that has affected the area. I have convened a Rescue Coordination Centre in the Prefecture at 10 am to take stock of the situation".

Medical personnel sent by the Sores Fvg operations centre with several ambulances, an ambulance and a helicopter crew were also on the scene. The injured person, with a fractured leg, was transferred to the hospital in Udine.

Rescue teams and river rescuers from the Trieste and Pordenone fire brigade commands were sent in support of personnel from Udine and Gorizia. The regional Gos (Special Operations Group) was mobilised with earth-moving equipment, dog handlers and the Usar (Urban search and rescue) team from Veneto to search for missing persons under the rubble.

In the area affected by the landslide, caused by a mudslide, in Via San Giorgio in Brazzano di Cormons, the authorities have set up a red zone due to the danger of further detachments from the slope that gave way and to facilitate the work of rescuers. Several families living under the slope that collapsed have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Fire brigade teams from all over the region are working on site to search for the missing.

Flooding in Cormons

The bad weather hit the area between Palmanova and the province of Gorizia hard, with the heaviest damage recorded in Cormons, where 152 millimetres of water fell in just six hours. The Judrio river overflowed, causing widespread flooding. The basements of Palmanova hospital were flooded with water: there are no problems for patients.

Disturbances also on the roads in Visco, Trivignano and Chiopris Viscone. The Udine fire brigade has received about two hundred requests for intervention since midnight, while numerous calls have also engaged the Gorizia command post.

Due to the wave of bad weather, the Civil Protection had issued a yellow alert.

According to initial reports, more than 100 people have died in a landslide at an unofficial gold mine in the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo. A police official confirmed that the accident occurred on Friday afternoon in the Mulondo Lwalaba mine near the town of Kolwezi in the province of Lualaba.

Keystone-SDA

While there was initially talk of up to 70 buried workers, the number of bodies recovered had already risen to 101 by Saturday morning. Rescue work is ongoing. It is assumed that more people are still underground. As the head of the Global Refugees Leaders Forum organization in Kolwezi, Pecos Kilihoshi, told dpa, there are many internally displaced persons among the buried and recovered bodies.

Heavy rain causes the earth to slide

In view of the continuing insecurity in large parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the resource-rich region in the south is attracting numerous people who are seeking an income in the unregulated mines and often work under precarious conditions. Landslides occur time and again in the country's mining regions. These are often triggered by heavy rainfall and facilitated by unstable, unregulated mines. As recently as June, more than 200 people died in a landslide in the Rubaya region.

In the middle of a sunny day, a hill suddenly collapsed, burying a section of road and many houses in a mountainous commune of Da Nang. Three people who went to this area to work on their fields are currently missing, and authorities are trying to reach the scene.

On the afternoon of November 14, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen An - Secretary of Hung Son commune (Da Nang city) - said that a landslide had just occurred in the area, burying many jun houses (farm guard houses), and 3 people lost contact.

The landslide occurred at around 9:30 a.m. the same day at the upstream area, about 250 meters from the local water reserve. A hill suddenly collapsed, carrying rocks and soil, burying about 5 houses and damaging more than 200 meters of DH4 road. The landslide stretched from the upstream to the stream for more than 1 km.

San Clemente Residents Sound Alarm Over Shorecliffs Landslide

By Angélica Escobar

16 hrs agoNelson Landslide 1.JPG

Homes along Calle Vallarta in San Clemente sit on the edge of the active Nelson Landslide, where a portion of the slope has collapsed toward the Shorecliffs Golf Course below. Residents say the ground continues to shift as underground water remains unaddressed. Photo: Courtesy of Kristen Nelson

From her backyard on Calle Vallarta, Kristen Nelson can still hear golfers chatting below — even as the earth beneath her home continues to shift.

The slow-moving landslide that began creeping through her neighborhood in early 2023 hasn’t stopped, she said. The slope behind her home remains soggy even in the middle of summer, and every new crack in the soil brings a reminder that the ground could give way again.

“There’s a lot of underground water that’s not being managed well by the city, the golf course, or the Coast Association,” Nelson said. “When it rains, this whole area could get activated again — and now there are golfers right below it every weekend.”

“They told us the piers might last a couple of years,” neighbor Nicole Taglione said. “Well, it’s been a couple of years, and they’re starting to buckle.”

A preliminary engineering report prepared this summer for legal mediation helps explain why the ground gave way.

According to SPC Engineering’s July 2025 assessment, the landslide was caused by years of rising groundwater beneath the slope, worsened by poor drainage and neglected maintenance by multiple parties — including the Coast Homeowners Association (HOA), the City of San Clemente and the Shorecliffs Golf Club.

Investigators found that the underground water table had climbed dozens of feet above safe limits before the slide reactivated in 2023. Dewatering wells managed by the HOA were either turned off or ineffective. Meanwhile, a city-owned desilting basin on the golf course — which collects runoff from surrounding neighborhoods — had become clogged with vegetation and debris and was not cleaned until after the landslide occurred.

Engineers also noted cracks in the course’s drainage channels and evidence of ponding water across the fairway, conditions that may have eroded the toe of the slope. Possible leaking utility lines along Calle Vallarta could have compounded the problem.

“The rise of the groundwater table caused the destabilization of the Nelson Landslide,” the report concluded, calling the slope’s safety margin “critical.”

For Nelson and Taglione, those findings only confirm what they have watched happen in real time. They say water still seeps beneath their properties year-round. Even after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to shore up their foundations, the threat remains.

Nelson’s house is now uninhabitable, but because homeowner’s insurance doesn’t cover landslides, she’s still paying both rent and a mortgage.

The women have pleaded for help from former Mayor Chris Duncan, Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley and representatives from a coastal agency, but say the responses have been limited to sympathy — not solutions.

“Everyone says the same thing — that they can’t help,” Nelson said. “If they can’t help, then at least make sure people don’t get hurt.”

Their biggest worry now is public safety. The landslide has already breached the edge of the Shorecliffs Golf Club, where hundreds of players walk the fairway each weekend.

“It’s a massive piece of land that could easily move again,” Taglione said. “It’s already reached the golf course, and people are out there playing like nothing’s wrong.”

Since the golf course reclassified the area from the back nine to the front nine, Nelson said, the number of casual players has only grown — and some even wander onto the unstable slope searching for golf balls.

“They have no idea they’re standing on an active landslide,” she said.

For now, the neighbors say the city, the HOA and the golf course are stuck in a blame cycle — each pointing at the others for failing to maintain the water-management systems that run beneath the hillside.

“The HOA turned off their wells during the drought, the golf course isn’t graded right, and the city let the drainage basin fill with plants,” Nelson said. “Now, everyone’s pointing fingers while our homes slide off the hill.”

Despite their frustration, both women insist they are not seeking compensation — just action.

“We’re not asking for new homes,” Nelson said. “We’re asking for this landslide to be dealt with so we know it’s stopped. Engineers know how to fix these things. We just need the city and HOA to care enough to do it.”

Until that happens, they say, they’ll keep speaking out — not just for their own safety, but for anyone walking the fairway below.

“If somebody gets hurt, at least I’ll know I did my civic part,” Nelson said. “This is still very much here.”

At least 12 houses were destroyed after a massive landslide in Barangay Candanas, Garcia Hernandez town in the Province of Bohol.

Following the incident, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) recommended that the area be declared a danger zone.

Ground movement began on November 5, 2025 after Typhoon Tino barreled through the Visayas regions, and was aggravated by rains dumped by Super Typhoon Uwan.

PDRRMO, headed by Anthony Damalerio, estimated that the size of the area is about five kilometers wide, affecting seven barangays: Candanas, Catmon, Estaca, Pasong, Cagwang, Cambuyo, and Datag.

Residents worry about constant ground movements that could pose further risks.

“Makuyawan ta kay ang mga kahoy mukalit rag hugno.. Kadto sa ibabaw duol sa amua bah..mura ko mukurog. Muagi ko mura ko mulupad sa kahadlok,” Crystal Etson, a resident, said.

Residents said they observed ground cracks prior to the collapse.

“Among balay guba na jud. Dili na kabalikan og puyo. Dako na’g space,” Etson added.

No casualty was reported, no persons were injured.

It was learned that residents had earlier taken on a preemptive evacuation.
