There have been numerous quakes in the Sparta NC, USA area since 9 August 2020. It seemed to get started with a 5.1 Magnitude registered by the USGS on the morning of 9 August, followed by a swarm, soon after. Other smaller swarms followed and are still continuing with a 2.3 M on 20 August (yesterday as of this writing). There does not seem to be any sort of plate of fault or other type of indicator in the area, other than being on the east coast in the Appalachian Mountains, in the middle of the bow area for the New Madrid expansion. Is this just another step in that direction? Or is there something else afoot in the middle of nowhere, a short drive from Washington DC, and in a protected valley of NC?
