The European Space Agency has detected what may be only the third known object to enter our solar system from interstellar space.

Object Name: 3I/ATLAS (A11pl3Z)
Discovered by: ATLAS telescope in Chile
Speed: Approximately 60 km/s (about 150,000 mph)
Closest Approach: October 30, 2025 (passing safely inside Mars’s orbit)

Believed to be an interstellar comet, this object is traveling on a hyperbolic path — meaning it is not bound by the Sun’s gravity and will eventually leave the solar system.
