El Niño has reached an unprecedented level...
The Niño 3.4 region – an area in the tropical Pacific Ocean approximately between 120° and 170° west longitude – recorded an anomaly of +3.22 °C above normal. This is the highest value ever recorded in this zone.
This area is of key importance: scientists use it to assess the strength of El Niño and La Niña. When the water here warms to such levels, it triggers major shifts in atmospheric circulation and affects weather patterns around the globe.
The +3.22 °C reading has already surpassed the previous record of +3.02 °C, set in 2015, despite it only being early October.
What's even more remarkable is that El Niño typically reaches its peak between November and January. This means that the current event has broken the historical maximum well before its climatic peak.

SOCORRO, Texas
Heavy rainfall this week has caused major road damage in Socorro, including a large sinkhole that opened near Horizon Boulevard and Nancy Drive.
The sinkhole formed on Nancy Drive in a large dirt area and was caused by erosion triggered by the heavy rain over the last few days.
