FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, 9/13/26 — A popular hotel in Fort Lauderdale had a piece of its building fall off on Sunday.

Local 10 News cameras captured the Fort Lauderdale Grand Hotel’s front overhang, with a large piece of it appearing to have fallen on the ground.

The area outside the hotel was blocked off by yellow police tape and parking cones.

Fire rescue crews said they responded to the scene on Sunday morning. Officials said there were no reported injuries.

There is no word on the cause of the damage or what measures will be taken to repair it.

PALATINE Illinois — A partial collapse in the northwest suburbs Sunday caused drivers to be detoured in Palatine, officials said.

Damage could be seen as concrete barriers on Illinois Route 53 dislodged and fell onto Palatine Road below, closing the street.

There were no reports of any injuries, but Palatine Road was closed near Winston Drive.

Repairs were made by 11:32 p.m. and the road reopened.

Massive sinkhole appears on busy street as road collapses in Prestwich, UK

Heywood Road in Prestwich, Bury, has been closed, and traffic diverted, after two or three large cracks caused the tarmac to dip dramatically.

It is the third sinkhole on the road within a decade, with one first appearing in 2016 and another occurring on the same street in 2023.

The area has been cordoned off while the utility company assesses the site "to determine the cause".

67 Dead After Gold Mine Collapse in Nuhud, Sudan, 9/16/26

At least 67 are dead after a gold mine collapse in a remote area in Sudan.

According to The Associated Press, the collpase took place in al-Zara gold mine in the town of Nuhud in West Kordofan province.

Survivors said the collapse occurred late Tuesday and many people remain missing at the mine.

A medical group said the death toll could increase as search and rescue operations were still ongoing in search of survivors or people trapped beneath the rubble.

Al-Amin Suliman, a miner, said there were people trapped inside the mine, which includes several shafts.

Another survivor, Khairal-Sayed Gabara described the collapse as “massive,” adding that machinery required to remove the collapsed soil and rubble wasn’t readily available.
