The 7 of 10 scenarios describe plate movements, and for this to occur something has to release the deadlock, the current stalemate where the plates are locked against each other. Once the deadlock is broken and the plates start moving, sliding past each other, new points where the plates are locked against each other develop, but these are weaker locks than the one at present. The current lock, as we have so often stated, is the Indo-Australian Plate which is being driven under the Himalayans. This is no small lock, as the height of the Himalayans attests. Nevertheless, the activity in this region shows this likely to be the first of the 7 of 10 scenarios to manifest. Bangladesh is sinking and the Coral Sea is rising, showing the overall tipping of the Indo-Australian Plate. Now Pakistan is sinking and not draining its floods as it should, while Jakarta on the tongue of Indonesia is also sinking rapidly, showing that the tilt that will allow Indonesia to sink has already started.

Meanwhile, S America is showing signs of a roll to the west. Explosions on islands just to the north of the S American Plate occurred recently, on Bonaire and Trinidad-Tobago, and the Andes are regularly being pummeled. There is a relationship. As the Indo-Australia Plate lifts and slides, this allows the Pacific plates to shift west, which allows S America to shift west also. This is greatly increased by the folding of the Mariana Trench and the Philippine Plate. But it is the Indo-Australian Plate that gives way to incite change in these other plates, and this is what is manifesting now to those closely following the changes. Once the folding of the Pacific has occurred, Japan has been destabilized. We are not allowed to give a time frame for any of these plate movements, but would point out that it is not until the North Island of Japan experiences its strong quakes that a tsunami causing sloshing near Victoria occurs. There are clues that the New Madrid will be next.

Where the N American continent is under great stress, it has not slipped because it is held in place on both sides. The Pacific side holds due to subduction friction along the San Andreas, and the Atlantic side holds due to the Atlantic Rift's reluctance to rip open. What changes this dynamic? When S America rolls, almost in step with the folding Pacific, it tears the Atlantic Rift on the southern side. This allows Africa freedom to move and it rolls too, dropping the Mediterranean floor above Algeria. What is holding the N American continent together has thus eased, so that when the Japan adjustments are made, there is less holding the N American continent in place than before, and the New Madrid gives way. We are also not allowed to provide the time frame between the Japan quakes and New Madrid. Other than the relationship in time between the New Madrid and the European tsunami, no time frame can be given. The sequence of events is, thus:

  • a tipping Indo-Australia Plate with Indonesia sinking,
  • a folding Pacific allowing S America to roll,
  • a tearing of the south Atlantic Rift allowing Africa to roll and the floor of the Mediterranean to drop,
  • great quakes in Japan followed by the New Madrid adjustment,
  • which is followed almost instantly by the tearing of the north Atlantic Rift with consequent European tsunami.

ZetaTalk: Pace Slowed

The effect of the thousands of humming boxes placed along fault lines and plate borders can be seen in several incidents that have occurred since the start of the 7 of 10 plate movements. The lack of tsunami during the 7 of 10 sinking of the Sunda Plate is one such example. We predicted at the start of the 7 of 10 scenarios in late 2010 that the Sunda Plate sinking would occur within 2-3 weeks, yet it dragged on through 2011. At the time we had predicted tsunami on the Sunda Plate, in general equivalent in height to the loss of elevation for a coastline. None of this occurred due to the slower pace. 

The pace of mountain building in S America, where slowed, has still resulted in rumpling up and down the Andes, and stretch zone accidents likewise in lands to the east of the Andes. The shape of S America has clearly changed. Will the islands in the Caribbean be spared? At some point, as with the magnitude 7.9 quake in Acapulco on March 2, 2012 a significant adjustment will need to occur, and this will include depressing the Caribbean Plate so it tilts, sinking the islands and lands on that portion of the plate to the degree predicted. But the S American roll will likely continue to avoid the magnitude 8 quakes we originally predicted in deference to slow rumpling mountain building. The African roll was anticipated to be a silent roll in any case, so the slowed pace would not affect the outcome.

Will the slowed pace prevent the 7 of 10 scenarios for the Northern Hemisphere? Bowing of the N American continent has reached the point of pain, with breaking rock booming from coast to coast, but still there have been no significant quakes in the New Madrid area. Yet this is past due, and cannot be held back indefinitely. What has and will continue to occur for the Northern Hemisphere scenarios are silent quakes for Japan, which has already experienced drastic subduction under the north island of Hokkaido where mountain building is occurring as a rumple rather than a jolt. However, the anticipated New Madrid adjustment cannot be achieved without trauma. But this could potentially occur in steps and stages such that any European tsunami would be significantly lessened.

 What happens when the pace of plate movement is slowed? The likelihood of tsunami is definitely reduced, as can be seen in the sinking on the Sunda Plate. The sinking occurred, and is almost complete, yet the possibility of tsunami we predicted for various regions on the Sunda Plate were avoided. The height and force of a tsunami is directly related to the degree of displacement in the sea floor, and if this happens in steps rather than all at once the displacement will be less for any given step.

This bodes well for the European tsunami. If the Council of Worlds is still imposing a slower pace on the 7 of 10 plate movements, this tsunami will definitely be lessened. The tear in the North Atlantic will be slight, each time. The amount of water pouring into this void will be less, each time. And the rebound toward the UK will likewise be less, each time. But our prediction is the worst case situation, and it also reflects what the Earth changes, unabated, would produce.

But what does a slower pace do to land masses where jolting quakes are expected? Does this reduce the overall magnitude of the quakes anticipated? Large magnitude quakes result when a catch point along plate borders is highly resistant, but snapping of rock finally results. Usually there is one place, the epicenter, where this catch point resides and a long distance along the plate border where smaller quakes have prepared the border for easy movement. A point of resistance within the body of a plate, such as the New Madrid, can likewise resist and suddenly give.

There is no way to lessen the resistance at these catch points, though the tension that accompanies such points can be reduced so that the quake itself is delayed. What this means for a slower 7 of 10 pace is that large magnitude quakes will be spread apart in time, and their relationship to our predictions thus able to be camouflaged by the establishment. Where sinking (such as the Caribbean Island of Trinidad) or spreading apart (such as to the west of the Mississippi River) are to occur, these land changes will eventually arrive. But like the sinking of the Sunda Plate, a slower pace unfortunately allows the cover-up time to maneuver and develop excuses.

Bangladesh Sinking: Dykes in 3 UZs badly damaged.

Farmers in three upazilas are uncertain about cultivation of Aman paddy as three embankments in those upazilas have collapsed due to tidal surge and erosion, allowing the water to submerge the fields.

The areas are Bashbaria village under Dashmina upazila, Dhulia under Baufal upazila and Piprakhali under Mirzaganj upazila.

In Dashmina, the embankment on the bank of Tentulia river in Bashbaria village broke up due to erosion and heavy tidal surges.

“The river devoured my house seven times in 30 years. Now we are landless, but we once had land, cattle, cropland and dwelling house. After Sidr we got a tin-shed house from the government but that also went into the river three years ago. Since then, I have been living in a tiny house with my family of five,” said housewife Salina Begum of Bashbaria.

Bashbaria Marium Memorial Girls' High School, Akram Khan Government Primary School and Bashbaria Government Primary School are on the verge of collapsing into the river.

Marium Memorial Girls' High School Assistant Teacher SM Enayet Karim said students cannot pay attention to their studies as they are always afraid that the school might collapse any moment.

Local Union Parishad (UP) Member Abdul Halim Khan said agricultural land is also being washed away into the river and farmers cannot cultivate their land as tidal surge covers their paddy land during high tide.

Bashbaria UP Chairman Altaf Hossain Akon said Amraia village has been totally eroded and about 75 percent of Dhondhonia village has been washed away due to lack of a embankment.

“We submitted a memorandum to the higher authorities concerned to build the dyke with concrete blocks,” he said.

Water Development Board (WDB) Sub-Divisional Engineer Jabed Iqbal said they have taken up four separate projects at a cost of Tk 11.37 crore to build a 30-km-long dyke and four sluice gates to save Bashbaria area from erosion.

Erosion at Dhulia area under Baufal upazila has taken a serious turn as the dyke has collapsed.

Several hundred houses, bazars and the Bauful-Dhulia-Hosnabad road were washed into river. Many people have become landless while Dhulia Government Primary School, Mothbaria High School and the grave of language hero Syed Ashraf are about to collapse.

Baufal Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pijush Chandra De said he visited the spot recently and informed the authorities concerned about the situation and asked them to take steps to protect the area.

District WDB Executive Engineer Hanasnuzzaman said they have submitted a project proposal and work will start after approval.

A two km section of the dyke from Piprakhali to Kalikapur bank of Payra river in Mirzaganj is facing serious erosion. Piprakhali Government Primary School has gone into the river and three more primary schools and a madrasa are about to collapse.

Shamim Hossain, a local resident, said agricultural land, houses and educational institutions were devoured by the river in the last several years.

Farmer Abul Kalam said they have not been able to cultivate their lands ever since super-cyclone Sidr destroyed the dyke.

Patuakhali WDB Executive Engineer Hanasnuzzaman said they are taking steps to build a new dyke in Piprakhali area to save it from erosion.

Rising Sea Levels in Charleston SC

For quite some time, sea level rise and the increase frequency of nuisance and tidal flooding has been well documented and felt first-hand in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. Lately it seems as if this flooding is happening on a regular basis. It turns out that nuisance flooding is going to become even more of a nuisance, especially for the Lowcountry. A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found sea level rise is happening faster than it has in centuries and it’s likely due to human activity. In addition to Charleston, Beaufort and Savannah were impacted with significant flooding in the last round of King Tides.

Here in Charleston we have documented more than a one-foot rise in the water level in the Charleston Harbor over the last 80 years. Some scientific projections predict a Sea Level Rise of at least a four-foot increase which could mean grave consequences for the Southeast. In addition to flooding, rising sea levels can hurt the economy, cause destructive erosion, contaminate water sources, and result in loss of habitat for wildlife and people.

Understanding and preparing for rising seas is a daunting task but, when you also factor in the harmful effects of increased storm surge, it highlights the need to make proactive planning a priority throughout our entire region. For example, when hurricane Hugo hit this region in 1989, there was a peak crest of over 12 feet. NOAA projects that, under similar hurricane conditions, we could experience 19-21 feet of storm surge. Also according to NOAA in the 1970’s, Charleston experienced two days of tidal flooding per year—but by 2045 the city is predicted to see 180 days of flooding annually. That’s nearly half the year.

Most cities and regions in the Southeast may not be prepared to deal with the issue of sea level rise, and often the plans they have in place don’t align with the latest scientific data. There is also concern that residents of these cities and regions don’t understand the impact of sea level rise and how they should plan as individuals.

That is why the South Carolina Aquarium in partnership with The Medical University of South Carolina, SCETV, The Department of Energy, and Allen University will be coordinating a series of Town Hall Meetings this spring and summer. The meetings will introduce sea level rise issues to residents and local experts will be on hand to answer questions and encourage a broad-based discussion.

India: Land, hill crack up near Kerala border.

Valparai (Coimbatore): A big crack has developed on lands across Valparai, creating panic among workers in tea plantations here on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.

The earth has cracked open at a depth of three feet at Nadumala estate near Valparai, which is in the Coimbatore district adjacent to Kerala's Palakkad district. The giant crack has appeared close to the road and electricity department's transformer.

Similar cracks are seen in several other estates in the area. Residents have been demanding officials concerned to inspect these cracks and check if they were caused by landslides or earthquakes. Locals demand a study of the phenomenon in order to allay the fears of residents here.

Cracks in hill

A hill too has developed cracks in the Thiruvizhamkunnu Karadiyod tribal colony at Mannarkkad in the Palakkad district, where three people had died in a landslide recently. The cracks are seen at several parts of the hill and they extend to kilometres in length. The water running down the hill flows into these cracks, triggering scare among residents about an impending disaster like landslide.

The top of the hill resembles a shattered glass and huge trees have been uprooted. Residents suspect that these are aftereffects of the landside that took place at Thiruvizhamkunnu Karadiyod hill. In case of a heavy rain, the hill is likely to fall apart across a large stretch and its impact could be disastrous. It could lead to damage to crops and loss of human lives, claimed Karadiyod residents.

Apart from a family that lost three of its members in the recent landslide, 15 other tribal families are living in the area. The tribals were shifted to a relief camp after the landslide, but they have refused to go back to their homes once the camp closed. Many of them are living in their relatives' houses and sheds built on fields.

India: The land in the surrounding region has developed a long crack that could extend for about 2.5 km.

Nedumkadam: A double-storey house here caved in as a major crack developed on the land below and near it amid the recent deluge in the state. The family had moved into its their dream home just six months ago after building the concrete structure.

The house, which belongs to Thenamakkal Appachan, is located at Pallipady, near Mavadi, in Idukki district which has already seen a spate of landslides and mudflow in the recent rain and subsequent floods.

The 10 pillars supporting the car porch of the house had tilted around a week before. On Sunday, its inhabitants vacated the house, along with some household articles. Thereafter, a part of the building that had tilted precariously collapsed all of a sudden, with the ground floor totally going underneath the bottom soil.

It is inferred that the house collapsed as the wet earth below it sunk. Only a micro-level study of the topography of its vicinity can unearth the exact cause, according to revenue officials.

Reportedly, the land in the surrounding region has developed a long crack that could extend for about 2.5 km, residents say. The neighbouring Mavadi Kuzhikombu area has also developed a long crack 12-feet deep. The villages around are reporting mud-wall collapse in a big way.
