Altering Earthquakes:
As of late, I have observed that USGS and EMSC are a bit lax on their reports of earthquakes. Sometimes not seeing anything reported for hours from the last update, or seeing periods of 90-200 minutes with no earthquakes in between. My question is, are they leaving swarms of earthquakes out of their reports, or there are actually periods of no earthquakes?
SOZT: Greater than 90% of the earthquake activity is being altered by the USGS at present, which is under orders to prevent any clue being given to the public about the Earth changes caused by the presence of Planet X. Over a decade ago, the approach was to de-sensitize the live seismographs periodically, so the displays do not turn black worldwide, and to ignore the twice-a-day patterns showing up on these seismographs. Then any quakes that could be dropped were dropped. This was obvious to some who were watching the database manipulation. Quakes in the list would suddenly disappear. This was particularly the case where a quake happened in a remote location, or out in the ocean. Dumbing down the magnitude quickly followed, but in order to ensure the public did not notice, the USGS took control of all websites reporting quake statistics. At times, this control breaks, and discrepancies are reported to the public. Some countries rebel. Quake swarms are another source of control, as they pepper the databases with many quakes and skew the statistics, and thus are pulled from the database. Else the question is raised, why so many? EOZT
Will the USGS internet system be a reliable warning system for the European tsunami by registering on the net the New Madrid earthquake on the exact time it occurs?
SOZT: It will not be a lack of information from the USGS that will be the point of confusion during the earthquakes leading up to the New Madrid adjustment, it will be knowing which quake is the big one vs the many minor quakes preceding it. The USGS downgrades almost all earthquakes, to prevent meaningful statistics from being generated from their databases. They also exclude quakes whenever they can, but this is unlikely to happen in the New Madrid area as it is in the center of a populated land mass. Thus you will have magnitude 6 quakes that will be called a 5.2, magnitude 7 quakes called a 6.1, and when a magnitude 8 or greater quake occurs, it will be called a 6.9.
We would advise that rather than watching the USGS quake statistics, that you watch the Earth changes. The adjustment that will incite the European tsunami will involve bridges on the Mississippi breaking, and being impassable. The land to the west of the Mississippi will drop so that the Mississippi will become 50 miles wide in the state of Mississippi. Watch for this. The New Madrid adjustment will be several large quakes of magnitude 8-9, though will be listed as a lesser magnitude. As the N American continent continues to unzip up to and along the Seaway, the quakes will be less than a magnitude 8 but very destructive to Cleveland and Toledo and Buffalo and the inland locks along the Seaway. Thus it is not what the USGS says that should be watched, but the condition of the bridges on the Mississippi, the impact on the cities along the Seaway, and whether the inland locks are reported as inoperable. EOZT
Please collect earthquake-reports here. Significant Quakes or Magnitude 7+ can be posted separately.

31 OCTOBER 2016. A sustained but small swarm of earthquakes has occurred in Ngakuru Valley south of Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty over the last 36-38 hours. The most active part of the swarm lasted about 4 hours overnight 29-30 October. We have recorded 132 earthquakes that are large enough to get locations in the last week. The earthquakes range from Magnitude 1.0 to Magnitude 2.9, while the depths ranged between 3 and 9 kilometres. The majority of these earthquakes are about five kilometres deep. Small shallow earthquakes like these will be well felt by local residents. We have received many felt reports from the area.

Dramatic Seabed Rise Near 7.8 New Zealand Quake (Nov 16)
The scale of seabed uplift north of Kaikoura has been measured as much as 6 metres (20 feet).
A rescue operation is underway to save shocked sea life that have been left stranded on the Kaikoura coast.
Thousands of paua and shellfish have been displaced from their watery homes following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake.
The rise has exposed paua, crayfish, and other sea life above water has left many stranded and dead.
Commercial divers and volunteers along the east coast are now heading to beaches to help move paua and sea life from the rocks and return them to the water.

New Zealand Quake Ruptured 6 Faults
The magnitude-7.8 quake that rattled New Zealand, killing at least two people and stranding thousands of people, completely transformed the underlying faults in the region.
Six major faults ruptured as a result of the New Zealand quake, a new map reveals.
The Kaikoura earthquake struck the South Island of New Zealand early in the morning on Nov. 14 local time, triggering landslides, tsunamis and hundreds of aftershocks. And thousands of people were stranded when earthquake detritus dammed a river. During the quake, bystanders captured images of mysterious earthquake lights painting the sky in eerie blue and green.
The Great Wall of New Zealand
Geologist Dr Kate Pedley took the above photos of the huge land-change in Waiau, the small town closest to the quake's epicenter.
"Maybe not as flashy as the ruptures north of Kaikoura," she said. But the ruptures she photographed near Waiau were a complicated and fascinating occurrence, Pedley said.
Pedley and her colleagues had been exploring a three kilometre-wide zone, where a large number of ruptures and land changes had occurred.
Although some parts of the area got off seemingly unscathed, Pedley said it "very quickly got messy for infrastructure to the northeast".
A team of geologists from the university travelled from the western end of the Amuri Range, back across the Emu Plain and continued as far as the cordons would allow them.
They got as far as Mt Lyford Village, where only military convoys were allowed to carry on further.

'Unusual' seismic activity prompts Govt reminder
Civil Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee says a public statement about unusual seismic activity in the lower North Island is not a cause for alarm.
In a statement released this afternoon, Mr Brownlee said GNS Science had observed "unusual activity involving patches of slow-slip activity'' between tectonic plates under the region.
"The heightened activity increases the uncertainty about the likelihood and size of future earthquakes,'' he said.
Mr Brownlee said the observations by GNS were a timely reminder for New Zealanders to be prepared for earthquakes.
Speaking to reporters at Parliament later, the minister clarified that his statement did not amount to a warning about future quakes.
"I just want to make sure that what we are doing is putting that information out there that it is advisable to be prepared.
"We're not creating alarm, we're just creating awareness.''
Since the November 14 earthquake near Kaikoura, a series of simultaneous "slow-slip'' quakes have been observed in Gisborne, the Hawkes Bay, and Kapiti.
Slow-slip quakes move just millimetres at a time and are detected by GPS because they cannot be picked up by seismographs.
Mr Brownlee said GNS Science was still trying to understand what the slow-slip quakes meant for the region. The phenomenon had only been analysed in New Zealand for a relatively short period of 15 years.
"So what we're saying is `Does this mean the risk is a little heightened?' And [GNS] is saying `It would be prudent to restate the public [civil defence] messages'.''
It was also important for the Government to issue robust scientific information to stop "amateurs interpreting scientific information in a negative way'', Mr Brownlee said.
GNS has advised that it is extremely unlikely there will be an aftershock of similar scale or larger than the Magnitude 7.8 quake on November 14.
In a blog post published today, GNS scientist Laura Wallace said it was not known what impact the slow-slip events could have on future earthquakes. Slow-slip quakes had been recorded in the lower North Island for 15 years, but not in multiple locations all at once, she said.
"But we've never tracked slow-slip events after a large magnitude 7.8 earthquake, so this could [be] the normal pattern after a large quake.''
The exact risk of a future quake could not be calculated because the science slow-slop movement was still "in its infancy'', Ms Wallace said.

[BREAKING] #Indonesia: "The tremors felt even stronger than the 2004 earthquake."
Deadly magnitude 6.5 earthquake hits Aceh in Indonesia
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-38232611?ns_mchannel=social&...
In 2004, a huge undersea quake off the coast of Aceh caused a tsunami that killed more than 160,000 people in Indonesia alone.
There was no tsunami after Wednesday's tremor, which the US Geological Survey said struck just offshore at 05:03 local time (22:03 GMT Tuesday) at a depth of 8km
The quake shook Banda Aceh and prompted many people across the region to flee their homes. Many are said to be reluctant to go back indoors, amid a number of aftershocks.
Musman Aziz, who lives in Meureudu, another affected town, told AP news agency: "It was very bad, the tremors felt even stronger than (the) 2004 earthquake... I was so scared the tsunami was coming."

84,000 Homeless After 6.5 Aceh Quake (Dec 10)
Most of the displaced, nearly 84,000 people, were from the hardest-hit Pidie Jaya regency, and the rest from Bireuen regency, the country's Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in a statement.
"The number of displaced continues to increase due to fresh reports coming in. The 83,838 people came from 124 (areas)," he added.
Nearly 12,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed completely – including mosques, schools, businesses and many homes – while roads were cracked and power lines disrupted.
More than 700 people were injured in the quake, many seriously, according to the country’s disaster agency.
Most of the displaced spent the night outdoors in tents near their ruined homes as hundreds refused to move into shelters fearing aftershocks.
The army has established kitchens, shelters and a field hospital in the hard-hit town of Meureudu to help the region’s overwhelmed health facilities.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited Meureudu yesterday, pledging to rebuild the area’s devastated communities as he called on Indonesians to pray for their countrymen.

Over two dozen earthquakes hit near Lake Tahoe within four hours and are felt in San Francisco and Las Vegas - adding to the nearly 700 tremors felt within California area in last week
The above image is a US Geological Survey map showing areas of earthquake activity. The arrow is pointing toward the Lake Tahoe region which straddles the California-Nevada border
Over two dozen earthquakes have been reported to hit the California-Nevada frontier early Wednesday morning, with tremors being felt as far north as Sacramento as well as San Francisco and Las Vegas.
The earthquakes struck near Lake Tahoe, and their rumblings were felt across areas of both states, KTVN reported.
There were no immediate reports of problems.
The US Geological Surveys says two magnitude 5.7 temblors were both centered in a remote area of Nevada near the California line, about 70 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe.
At least seven quakes with magnitudes between 3 and 5.6 were reported shortly afterward, according to The Los Angeles Times.
The moderate quakes, which struck at 12:18am local time and then four minutes later, were followed by a series of smaller aftershocks.
The Mineral County Sheriff's Department in Hawthorne, Nevada, near the epicenter, says staffers felt both quakes, but they have not had any reports of injury or damage.
The office says the quakes apparently did trigger burglar alarms at two businesses, and caused a rock slide that did not block a nearby highway.
In addition to Lake Tahoe, the USGS says the quakes were felt in such areas as Carson City, Nevada, and Yosemite National Park and Mammoth Lakes in California, all roughly 60 miles from the epicenter.
Social media users in Sacramento reported feeling the tremors.
A reporter for KWTV News tweeted that there have been at least 28 reported earthquakes since the early morning hours in California and Nevada.
A map put out by the Southern California Earthquake Data Center shows that in the last week that have been almost 700 light-to-moderate tremors in the area.

Record-breaking year of earthquakes: 32,828 quakes hit New Zealand in 2016
Source: twitter.com
2 January, 2017. If you felt like the earth moved more in 2016 than ever before, you're right: GeoNet says last year set a new annual record for the number of earthquakes hitting New Zealand.
Its monitoring network recorded 32,828 quakes - well up from the annual average of about 20,000 - leading seismologists to dub 2016 "the Groundbreaker".
The previous most active year was 2011, with 29,000 quakes. GeoNet's monitoring network has been running for 15 years.
Helping achieve the "dubious honour" of most earthquakes in a year were two magnitude 7+ quakes, 10 tremors measuring magnitude 6 to 6.9, and 122 between magnitude 5 and 6.
JOHN KIRK-ANDERSON/FAIRFAX NZ
The Kaikoura quake and its many aftershocks made 2016 a year for the record books.
"You'd be hard pressed to find someone who wasn' impacted, in some way, by earthquakes in New Zealand this year," GeoNet's Sara McBride wrote in a blog post.
It was unusual for New Zealand to see two quakes top M7 in a year.
The first, on September 2, was a 7.1 that struck at 4.37am, 22 kilometres deep, off the northeast coast of New Zealand.
"Luckily, the damage was minimal on land, although a small tsunami was generated. A strong aftershock sequence continued in the days following," GeoNet said.
"Now, in any other year, the M7.1 would have been the biggest earthquake in New Zealand. But, New Zealand was just getting warmed up."
Then came the big one: the 7.8 Kaikoura quake at 12.02am on November 14, near Culverden in Canterbury.
Two people were killed as the quake ruptured faults, shaking the country from Christchurch to Wellington, and raising the seabed in Kaikoura.
While the M7.8 quake wouldn't make the history books for its size - which was average for the Ring of Fire - it was unique for two reasons: the way it ruptured multiple faults, and the "slow-slip" earthquakes it triggered.
"While we knew the faults were all there, we had only rarely seen an earthquake behave quite like this one," GeoNet said.
Other natural disasters also kept the country on its toes, including a tsunami in the wake of the Kaikoura that sort swathes of the east coast of both the North and South Islands evacuated.
The waves rose up to four metres, destroying a cottage at Banks Peninsula. Source: stuff.co.nz

5.8 magnitude quake shakes Nunavut's High Arctic
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/nunavut-earthquake-1.3926952
Earthquake originally measured at magnitude 6.4 by U.S. Geological Survey
Nunavut's High Arctic was shaken by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake on Sunday, according to Earthquakes Canada.
The U.S. Geological Survey, which originally measured the earthquake at magnitude 6.4, reported that it was centred about 89 kilometres southeast of Resolute.
Cracked windows, shaking reported after High Arctic earthquake and aftershock
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/aftershock-earthquake-nunavut-1...
A few cracked windows seem to be the only damage from the 5.9 magnitude earthquake and 5.1 magnitude aftershock that hit Resolute.
The earthquake hit at 5:45 p.m. local time on Sunday
"The earthquake felt like it was going on forever and our house seemed like it was going to slide. I was lying on the couch watching TV — it was as if was the couch was going to slide too," said Saroomie Manik, CBC's community reporter in Inuktitut.
Paul Legacy, the maintenance manager with the Housing Association in Resolute, says he felt the shaking for "a little bit, then it got a little bit worse for 10 or 15 seconds."
"Things were moving around in my house, pictures were crooked all over the wall. I did get a call from one tenant. She thought it was her furnace but she told me it was knocking everything off her walls too," he said.
"There's a few cracked windows and a couple of broken drains that I'm repairing."

1-23-2017 Multiple earthquakes south of Des Moines at the same time, January 23, might have had something to do with it. Local officials are calling it "a sinkhole."
A portion of the riverbank has collapsed near City Hall in downtown Des Moines.
Pam Cooksey, city engineer, said her department noticed Monday that soil between City Hall, 400 Robert D. Ray Drive., and the Des Moines River had shifted, but it has not determined a cause. Cooksey said it "looked kind of like a sinkhole."
"We’re looking into that right now to figure out what’s going on to get a repair," she said. "We became aware of it today. I assume it started it over the weekend."

What happens to rock layers under a diagonal pull, or being pulled apart? As can be seen during recent years, this has resulted in derailing trains, sinkholes suddenly appearing, gas and water main breaks, torn roadways and separating bridges. Despite the effect on man, crawling about on the surface of what they assume to be terra firma, these changes are superficial. When the pulling starts, weak points break and thereafter the plumbing and roadways hold, giving the impression that the pulling has stopped, but this is misleading. The North American continent is giving evidence that its rock layers are separating from each other, and sliding sideways in a diagonal, thus exposing portions of these layers to vent into the air above. If rock is being stressed, then where are the earthquake predictors giving evidence of this, the frantic animals, the static on the radio, the earthquake swarms? Rock in the stretch zone, pulling apart rather than compressing, does not emit the particles flows that animals and radios sense, nor register on instruments are tension and release quakes.

WARNING-US West Coast Earthquake Warning as Cascadia Subduction Zon...
An ocean data buoy is alerting to an “event” in the Cascadia Subduction Zone off the west coast of Oregon. This is where a magnitude 9 earthquake hit in 1700.
According to the data buoy, the water column height (depth) fell sharply within minutes off the coast of Oregon, signaling the land beneath the ocean has suddenly “sunk.”
As of 0231:30, the initial water column height is 2738.80 Meters deep (8985.56 feet). Two minutes and thirty seconds later, that same water column height had dropped to 2738.66 Meters deep (8985.10 feet). Where did the four inches of water disappear to? Answer: The earth sunk; and continued to sink for the next several HOURS. As you can see from the second chart above, from 0230 GMT to 0600 GMT, the ocean continued to sink to 2737.7 meters deep (8981.95 feet). The buoy is too far away from shore to be affected by high/low tide, so where did the four feet of ocean water disappear to?
This means a Tectonic Plate in the Ocean named the “Juan de Fuca Plate” has made a sudden, eastward movement and slipped beneath another Tectonic Plate named the “North American Plate.” This type of event is usually followed by a massive upward movement of the North American Plate causing a very severe earthquake.
Here’s a map of the relevant Tectonic Plates:
Mount Hood Volcano Can Be Triggered to Erupt
This type of Tectonic Movement has a direct effect upon the volcanos in the Cascadia Volcanic Chain, in particular, Mount Hood.
When the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate goes beneath the North American plate, it begins to get crushed. The heat from the friction of the two massive plates rubbing together, melts the Juan de Fuca plate into Magma (lava).
Directly next to the Cascadia Subduction Zone is the Mount Hood Volcano. Here’s a graphic to show you the relevant details:

Large quakes at the 7 of 10 breaking point
"the fact that it shook entire north India was worrying"!
6.3 quake strikes off southern Pakistan – USGS
https://www.rt.com/news/376633-pakistan-quake-turbat-coast/
The quake, which was originally registered as magnitude 6.6, hit 23 kilometers southwest of the city of Pasni at a depth of 10 kilometers. The cities of Turbat and Gwadar are also within 90 kilometers from the epicenter of the quake.
No reports of damage or casualties were immediately available in the aftermath of the quake.
The Dawn quoted Commissioner of Makran Division Bashir Bangulzai as saying that no damage or casualties have been discovered upon inspection of the affected area. He noted that relief teams were dispatched to remote villages to make sure the locals are safe.
Authorities in Gwadar also reported their city had suffered no damage as result of the quake, according to Deputy Commissioner Tufail Baloch.
An inspection is under way in Pasni.
The tremors have reportedly caused panic among residents in the Baluchistan province, where the cities and towns most affected by the quake are located. AFP reported that people residing near the quake’s epicenter poured out onto the streets.
Pakistan is situated in a seismically active zone at a juncture of the Indian and the Eurasian tectonic plates that collide in the region, which often leaves its residents the victims of deadly earthquakes.

Earthquake of 5.8 magnitude hits Delhi, Uttarakhand: Panic and tension as reports of damage awaited
http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2017/feb/06/earthquake-of-58...
RUDRAPRAYAG: An earthquake of 5.8 Richter intensity rocked Uttarakhand at 10.33 pm Monday night (Feb. 6), jolting people out of bed and into the streets of the hill state. No loss of life or property had been reported at the time of going to press.
Tremors were felt for 30 seconds in the National Capital Region of the region of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
Initial reports suggested that the epicentre of the earthquake was Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, according to J L Gautam, the operations head at the National
Seismological Bureau, a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences. The tremors were felt across the quake-vulnerable state, lasting for nearly 30 seconds and sending panic-stricken people out into the streets. ''I was watching TV when the room started shaking and I rushed out with my family,'' said Ajay Chauhan, a resident of Rudraprayag.
An hour after the temblor, authorities in the hill state said they were not sure there was any damage as reports had not been received from the interior of the state. Though an intensity of 5.8 on the Richter scale is considered moderate, the fact that it shook entire north India was worrying, experts said. There was a possibility of aftershocks too.
Rudraprayag is a town in the folds of the Himalayas. Due to the treacherous terrain, it is difficult to ascertain the damage, if any, immediately. ''We are yet to ascertain whether the earthquake has triggered any landslides. It will take some time before we confirm,'' officials told New Indian Express.
Rudraprayag superintendent of police Prahlad Meena told reporters, ''Everything is alright here and there is no information on any major damage as of now. There is also no confirmation about Rudraprayag being the epicentre. So far, there have been no distress calls from anywhere.”
Out of the 13 districts in Uttarakhand, Chamoli and Bageshwar fall in a 100 per cent hyper-sensitive seismic zone. Five other districts including Dehradun, Champawat, Nainital, Uddhamsingh Nagar and Haridwar are 100 percent sensitive zones.
According to a report, sensitivity percentages in Rudrapryag and Pithoragarh are 98.3 and 94.9 respectively. Similarly, it is 96.8 in Tehri and Pauri, 83.3 in Uttarkashi and 81.6 in Almora.

[#Turkey] "Some 42 percent of territory is at risk of earthquakes. We need to act by keeping this reality in mind."
At least 749 earthquakes hit Dardanelles since Feb 6
http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/Default.aspx?pageID=238&nID=10...
At least 749 earthquakes have hit the Marmara province of Çanakkale since Feb. 6, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has stated.
The first wave of the earthquakes was recorded on Feb. 6 at 6:51 a.m. in the province’s Ayvacık district with a 5.3-magnitude temblor. That was followed by another one with the same magnitude at 13.58 p.m. on the same day, and the latest major quake occurred in Ayvacık on Feb. 12 with the same magnitude, according to AFAD.
A number of buildings in the region were damaged and many locals settled in tent cities set up near the village of Yukarıköy, which was severely damaged by the quakes.
AFAD and the Turkish Red Crescent are currently setting up a container city for victims in the area.
Schools in the district were also canceled for a week due to the earthquakes.
Prof. Dr. Övgün Ercan, an academic at the Faculty of Mines at Istanbul Technical University, warned about another wave of earthquakes, saying a major earthquake was expected “within the next 15 to 20 days.”
Faultlines in the region cannot discharge their tension. So an earthquake with a magnitude of at least 6 are expected within the next 15 to 20 days,” Ercan said.
Environment Minister Mehmet Özhaseki issued warnings following the recent earthquakes in Çanakkale and Malatya, reminding them that Turkey stood on active fault lines.
“Some 42 percent of territory in Turkey is at risk of earthquakes. We need to act by keeping this reality in mind. We should build safe buildings on stable bases,” Özhaseki said.
