On Monday, May 11th, we had a surge of power through our house so great, that it magnified the brightness of our lightbulbs tenfold. The lights and one of the circuits proceeded to burn out, and the surge fried anything that was plugged in—as a strong burst of magnetic energy would. Even a surge strip did not keep the cable box from being fried. This type of situation has never occurred in our home in over 50 years. The event occurred at a little after 13:00 pm CST, or 18:00 UTC. No source was found for the surge, only a fried wire, which had caused a burning smell in the home. Certainly a malfunctioning wire, more than like fried by the surge as well, would not cause a surge in power, but a reduction in it. Would the Zetas care to comment on whether we are now experiencing EMPs from PX on a more frequent basis? If so, would it be recommended that all electronics not in use be disconnected from their power source? Space was relatively quiet, but the magnetosphere was fluctuating widely. [and from another] http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/live-deansgate-power-cut-updates-9258700 The cut was said to have been caused by an electrical surge. People in the area say "Smoke was coming from the electric cupboard from 86 Deansgate when the power surge hit. 4 fire engines responded to the call". Jade Barrow is a receptionist at 86 Deansgate, and said the whole building shook. She said: "The firemen explained to me that an electrical surge is like 2 magnets hitting each other. That's why it all shook because of the force." [and from another]http://poleshift.ning.com/profiles/blog/show?id=3863141%3ABlogPost%3A998556&commentId=3863141%3AComment%3A999341&xg_source=activity May 15. After 15 days with approximately 300 hours of missing data, it appears the uninterrupted BATSRUS RCM image feed has resumed.
Air France 447 in 2009 and Malaysia 370 and the recent Germanwings A320 are in the news because they impact the airline industry, and the blame thus placed elsewhere. To date, pilot suicide, storms, and bad pilot judgement have been used, and how is the public to know otherwise? Electric trains such as the Disney Monorail and DC Metro crash incidents in 2009 and the recent Amtrak 188 go into investigation while talking heads murmur about safety devices or track maintenance or mechanical failure, which ultimately get the blame.
It is only when the public is broadly affected that the public can get a hint that something else is afoot. Cell phones are regularly having disrupted service but the blame is placed on blocked access to towers or bad weather. The blackberry outage in 2008 was blamed on a software glitch. If the public is frankly being lied to, engineers responsible for maintaining equipment and the grid are not fooled. The talk has spilled over into the press, or into conversations with the public. During the Washington DC blackout, the electrical problem was described at first by the Washington Post as a “surge”.
This is a key determinant between a failed electrical system, a simple outage, and electro-magnetic pulse. Pulse is a surge, and the sudden increase in the amount of magnetons and their associated electrons, such that equipment controlled by a steady pace of either particle flow goes into a runaway state. When equipment is guarded by surge protection, to guard against lightning strikes, it will shut down, as a brownout situation can damage equipment. But unless a lightning strike was present, there can be no excuse for a pulse or surge other than the presence of the charged tail of Planet X, aka Nibiru.
What can the public expect? As cell phone service and cable TV via satellite continues to degrade, as airplanes increasingly crash during complete electronics failure or are forced to land with smoke in their cockpits, as electric trains surge off the tracks and brakes fail, as transformers explode at dams and on the grid, and as residential lights flicker and erratic and unexplained and spotty blackouts descend, the public can expect endless inane excuses from the establishment. The truth will be withheld because mankind is so dependent upon his electrical systems and equipment that the thought of being without is unthinkable. It is mass denial.

Three passengers have suffered smoke inhalation and 12 others need treatment after a British Airways flight made an emergency landing in Spain with a smoke-filled cabin.
Footage posted online shows passengers using the evacuation slide on the runway in Valencia, and a clip from the cabin shows the air thick with smoke.
Lucy Brown posted pictures of the smoking cabin on Twitter and said the events -which unfolded at around 7pm today - 'felt like a horror film.'
She said: @British_Airways terrifying experience on flight to Valencia. Felt like horror film. Thankfully everyone safe. Flight filled with smoke and had to be emergency evacuated. #britishairways.
Three people have been taken to hospital for checks, while others are understood to have suffered minor friction burns after jumping down the emergency chutes during the scare.
Irate travellers have lambasted the airline on social media after the evacuation, saying there was no first aid or water provided, people were crying at the terminal, and there has been a lack of information from the airline about the incident.
Miguel J Galindo, posted footage of the passengers being evacuated from the plane and the smoke filled cabin they were forced to deal with prior to landing.
On Twitter, he said: 'BA422 landed in VLC with smoke on the cabin and passengers leaving through evacuation ramp. what is happenning? No info to passengers.'
In a further clip posted by Gayle Fitzpatrick, what appears to be a member of BA staff is on the phone in the smoke filled cabin, as a passenger implores the airline to 'make an announcement.'
Gayle Fiztpatrick was also critical of the airline on Twitter, saying: #Emergency Landing Still waiting to hear what actually happened on our British Airways flight from LHR to Valencia in which our cabin filled with smoke in the last 10 minutes of flight, had to disembark via emergency chutes. No comms 60 mins and counting!
In a series of tweets Spanish journalist Dani Merono said from the smoke-filled cabin: 'We have just landed and the door hasn't opened.
'We are all here and can't breathe. It's madness!'

London hit by power outage following suspected national grid failure
Updated 1732 GMT (0132 HKT) August 9, 2019
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/09/europe/uk-power-outage-gbr-intl/...
London (CNN)London and large parts of England and Wales were hit by massive power cut on Friday after a suspected national grid failure, UK power companies said Friday.
"We're aware of a power cut affecting a large area of London and South East. We believe this is due to a failure to National Grid's network, which is affecting our customers," UK Power Networks tweeted, later replying to customers confirming that "the issue was caused by a fault on the National Transmission Network," and that they expect power to be restored.
Western Power Distribution, which distributes power to the Midlands, the South West region and Wales said that they were experiencing a "major incident on the national electricity infrastructure," but added that 90% of their customers have since had their power restored.
Transport for London (TfL) has also confirmed to CNN that parts of its train network were affected following the power outage on Friday evening, but that power had been restored and service was expected to be back up and running shortly.
Londoners shared pictures of the power surge on Twitter, which showed the tube network in darkness.
The outage also affected several overground train services, with Thameslink tweeting that its trains had been brought to a "standstill," and London North Eastern Railway said several of its had broken down, according to PA.

Private jet has emergency landing at AEX, smoke in cockpit
ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - There were some tense moments at England Airpark on Monday evening when preparations were made for an emergency landing.
England Airpark held their annual economic development summit on Wednesday. | Photo Source: KALB
According to England Airpark Executive Director Sandra McQuain, a call came in just after 6 p.m. that a pilot was reporting smoke in the cockpit.
McQuain said the plane was a private Cessna Citation Jet.
There was talk that the jet might land at Esler Regional Airport, but the decision was made for the pilot to land at AEX due to the longer runways.
The England Airpark Fire Department and other emergency vehicles responded to the scene, but fortunately, the pilot landed without incident around 7:45 p.m.
“We’re glad to report he landed safely, and all is well at AEX,” McQuain said.

UK power cut triggered after simultaneous mystery outage at off-shore windfarm and gas facility more than 150 miles apart within moments of lightning strike
August 20 2019
Report finds ‘extremely rare and unexpected event’ led to travel chaos
A simultaneous malfunction at an offshore windfarm and gas facility caused a power cut in the UK earlier this month, according to a new report.
The unexplained outages followed moments after a lightning strike, the National Grid Electricity System Operator (NGESO) said.
Officials said the lightning strike hit a transmission circuit at 4.52pm on 9 August.
Such strikes are common, and the national grid’s protection systems cleared the lightning in under 0.1 seconds.
But moments after the strike the UK lost 5 per cent of its power.
Simultaneous outages, associated with the strike, occurred independently at Hornsea offshore windfarm and Little Barford gas power station
The two sites are more than 100 miles apart.
“The total generation lost from these two transmission-connected generators was 1,378mw,” the NGESO interim report said.
The scale of generation loss meant that the 1000mw level of “backup” power held under regulations was insufficient.
As a result, the system automatically disconnected customers on the distribution network.
Around 5 per cent of electricity demand was turned off to protect the other 95 per cent.
Such a vast outage has not occurred in more than a decade.
“As generation would not be expected to trip off or de-load in response to a lightning strike, this appears to represent an extremely rare and unexpected event,” the report said.
The lightning strike was one of many to hit the national grid on the day.
Watch more
NGESO said lightning strikes are “routinely managed as part of normal system operations”.
The power cut caused travel chaos during rush hour in London and the southeast.
Traffic lights were knocked out, flights grounded and passengers stuck on halted trains for hours, with one commuter describing the atmosphere at Clapham Junction as “like witnessing something out of an apocalyptic film”.
Euston and King’s Cross train stations were brought to a standstill, with commuters forced to use the torches on their mobile phones to exit the London Underground, which was plunged into darkness in some areas.
Train signals lost power across the south, in Bristol, Newport and Eastbourne, while passengers travelling from Edinburgh to London were stuck on a train for an extra eight hours.
The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem), the industry regulator, said it was launching an investigation following the report.
The probe is set to examine the national grid’s requirements to hold sufficient backup power, as well as how generators met their obligations with respect to the transmission fault, and whether distribution network operators complied with their obligations.
The regulator will also examine “whether the companies made the right decisions both in the numbers of customers disconnected and whether those customers disconnected were the right ones”.
“It’s important that the industry takes all possible steps to prevent this happening again,” said Jonathan Brearley, Ofgem’s executive director of systems and networks.
“Having now received National Grid ESO’s interim report, we believe there are still areas where we need to use our statutory powers to investigate these outages.
“This will ensure the industry learns the relevant lessons, and clearly establish whether any firm breached their obligations to deliver secure power supplies to consumers.”

7 Hospitalized after ‘Smoke in the Cabin’ of Hawaiian Airlines Flight Forces Emergency Landing
“We have since determined that a seal failed in the aircraft’s left engine, causing oil to leak onto hot parts of the plane’s engine and air conditioning pressurization system," a spokesperson for Hawaiian Airlines tells PEOPLE
A plane traveling from Oakland to Hawaii made an emergency landing on Thursday (Aug 22) after experiencing an engine problem that caused smoke to fill up the plane.
A spokesperson for Hawaiian Airlines tells PEOPLE that the flight, which was carrying 184 passengers and seven crew members, landed in Honolulu at 11:36 a.m. local time, “about 20 minutes after an in-flight emergency was declared due to reports of smoke in the cargo hold and cabin.”
“We have since determined that a seal failed in the aircraft’s left engine, causing oil to leak onto hot parts of the plane’s engine and air conditioning pressurization system, resulting in smoke in the cabin,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “The performance of the engine was not affected, and the Airbus A321neo flight landed without incident on runway 4R. First responders met the aircraft upon arrival, and emergency slides were deployed to assist in an evacuation.”
A total of seven passengers “were transported to local hospitals due to smoke-related symptoms,” the spokesperson confirms.
American Medical Response spokesman James Ireland says those hospitalized include five adults and two children, one of whom is 9 months old, the Associated Press reports. All of their injuries are considered minor.

EMERGENCY LANDINGNorwegian Air Shuttle flight diverts to Dublin Airport after suffering engine problem over Atlantic
A PASSENGER jet has been forced to divert to Dublin Airport after the crew declared an emergency over the Atlantic this afternoon.
The pilot reported a problem with the aircraft’s left side engine which they said had suffered a ‘surge’ and as a result they need to divert.
Norwegian Air Shuttle flight DY-7110 was travelling from from Los Angeles in the US to Barcelona, Spain at the time. There were 331 passengers and crew on board.
The Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner jet was about 100 kilometres off the south west coast when the crew declared an emergency at around 1.30pm.
The crew had been in radio contact with controllers at the Irish Aviation Authority’s North Atlantic Communications Centre at Ballygirreen in Co Clare when they reported an issue with the left side engine.
The pilot reported a ‘surge’ in the port engine and confirmed they wished to divert to Dublin Airport despite being considerably closer to Shannon. At the time, the flight was 250 kilometres from Shannon and 420 kilometres from Dublin.
It’s understood the crew opted for Dublin to allow them time to burn off aviation fuel and go through their emergency checklists.
The crew also confirmed to controllers they expected to make a ‘normal landing’ in Dublin.
Air traffic controllers cleared the crew of flight 7110 to route to Dublin with permission to descend at their own discretion.
MAYDAY CALL
The crew declared an emergency by radio using the MayDay distress message and by transmitting an emergency squawk code on their transponder.
The flight landed safely at around 2.10pm and was met by airport fire and rescue crews who also accompanied the jet to the terminal.
The airline has been contacted for a comment while it’s not year clear whether the passengers will continue their journey this evening.

Cayman Airways flight makes emergency landing in Orlando due to fe... originally appeared on abcnews.go.com
Passengers on a Cayman Airways flight made a frightening, emergency landing in Orlando on Sunday evening (Sept 8) after pilots detected a smoke condition on board.
Flight KX792 departed Grand Cayman at 3:30 p.m. for New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport before diverting to Orlando International Airport, where it landed at 6:17 p.m., after a smoke indicator light came on showing smoke in one of the cargo holds.
The jet deployed emergency slides on the runway "with the uncertainty of what was causing the indication," according to Cayman Airways.
Cayman Airways said there is no evidence there was actually ever smoke in the cargo hold.
There were 103 passengers and five crew members on board.
"We are extremely mindful that this emergency landing and evacuation was a very distressing event," Cayman Airways CEO Fabian Whorms said in a statements. "On behalf of Cayman Airways, I offer a most sincere apology to our passengers for having to experience this emergency landing and evacuation, which was necessary in the interest of safety of our passengers and crew."

Blame it on the coffee!
LONDON, Sept 12 - A commercial flight with 326 people on board was forced to make an emergency landing when hot coffee was accidentally spilled over the cockpit control panel over the Atlantic ocean, according to a report on Thursday.
The Airbus A330-243 flying to Cancun, Mexico, from Frankfurt, landed at Shannon in Ireland.
With the hot liquid causing a strong electrical burning smell and smoke rising from the panel, the captain decided to divert, the report from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said.
The incident happened after a pilot put his coffee cup without a lid on a tray table rather than in a cup holder, the report said.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – 125,000 customers were without power from 100 Mile House to Prince George and the B.C. Peace. on Wednesday night (Sept 11) due to a major power failure.
According to B.C. Hydro Media Relations, Bob Gammer, the cause of the power outage is still under investigation but believes the power outage was caused by a lightning strike that then caused a transmission circuit fault.
“In terms of a cause, we suspect it’s lightning and we are continuing our investigation in terms of where the lightning hit, how one lightning strike could cause this great of an outage because we do get hit by lightning many times a year and our protective absorbs that and we just continue on. Something was different this time and we are looking into that.”

Jeddah-bound PIA flight makes emergency landing at Lahore airport
https://www.newkerala.com/news/read/212065/jeddah-bound-pia-flight-...
Lahore , Sept 15 : A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight bound for Jeddah in Saudi Arabia made an emergency landing at the international airport here on Sunday due to a 'technical fault' soon after taking off.
According to initial reports, flight PK-759 was forced to land at Allama Iqbal International Airport after the plane's main engine caught fire owing to short-circuiting of wires, The Express Tribune reported.
However, a PIA spokesperson rejected these reports and said the plane was called back due to a "technical fault."
"There is a stark difference in there actually being a fire or a malfunction in the fire warning system. There was no fire. The plane took off at 930 am but was called back over a technical fault," the airlines' spokesperson Mashood Tajwar told the Pakistani media outlet.
Over 200 passengers were on board the plane when the incident took place and all of them escaped unhurt.
The spokesperson said that passengers were brought to the airport lounge and provided all the necessary facilities.
At around 1230 pm, the passengers embarked on an alternate flight and left for Jeddah soon after.
A similar incident involving Pakistan's national carrier took place in July when flight PK-604 from Islamabad made a landing at Gilgit airport when the plane skidded off the runway. All 48 passengers escaped unhurt in that incident.

Power outage affects all of Central America
Since noon on Monday, failures were reported in the regional electricity service.

https://www.prensalibre.com/economia/corte-de-energia-electrica-afe...
Neighbors from various areas of Guatemala City and nearby points, reported instability in the electric power service. Far from being a problem at the local level, it was confirmed that the blackouts are at the regional level.
The Administrator of the Wholesale Market (AMM), an organization that operates in the electric power sector, confirmed that the lack of this service in several areas of the country is due to a regional blackout.
The event that caused the blackout occurred at 11.50 am on September 16 and according to data from the Regional Operator Entity system called SCADA EOR, the origin of the fault was due to a shot of the line between Pavana and Saint Lucia in Honduras , according to Édgar Navarro, president of the AMM.
The blackout was general in Honduras and Nicaragua, and in the rest of the countries it was partial. Due to this event, the Regional Electric System (SER) was divided into 4 islands: Mexico-Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Costa Rica-Panama.
As users from zones 2, 5, 10, 11, 16 of Guatemala City report that they have no electricity, in other places they have indicated that the service was restored, but that it is unstable.
Service failure is also reported in Bárcenas, Villa Nueva and Quetzaltenango, Petén, Puerto Barrios, Jalapa, Jutiapa and Huehuetenango.
Media outlets in Honduras and Nicaragua have reported that the fault is due to an interconnection that is located in Nicaragua and that affects Central American territory.

On its journey from Malaga to Barcelona, Spanish budget airline Vuelling flight VY2188 was propelled into danger when its cabin became rapidly thick with smoke.Frightened passengers were then forced to make a sudden emergency evacuation, with passengers battling to hold down one of the exit slides in strong winds.Furious flyers onboard the flight have since vented about the lack of safety measures and information provided. Passengers attempted to protect themselves against the air pollution, as no safety masks were released.
Footage posted to Youtube by someone on board shows the horrifying moment the the Vueling Airbus A320-200N became submerged in smoke.
Passengers can be heard reassuring one another to “be calm” while in their seats.
After a priority landing at El Prat airport patrons, including young children, were filmed fleeing to safety down the blow up slides.
It was just after midnight on Friday when the passengers finally found safety on the tarmac.
Despite the safe evacuation, passengers have criticised the way Vuelling staff handled the incident.
With not enough wet paper towels to go around while the crew attempted to activate the emergency ramps, customers were told "cover your nostrils with your hands and lower your head to your legs."
Spokesperson Javier Calderón told Spanish newspaper El Pais: "Several people suffered panic attacks, especially when the plane had landed, emergency ramps were not activated and there was a high concentration of smoke in the cabin which made it difficult to breathe.”
Luckily, two Ryanair staff who happened to be travelling onboard have been praised for stepping up and assisting during the crisis..."

Smoke from passenger's tablet: Etihad flight diverted. Etihad Airways flight EY131 diverted to remove device
https://gulfnews.com/business/aviation/smoke-from-passengers-tablet...
Dubai: An Etihad Airways flight to Washington DC made an emergency landing in Dublin after a smoke emitted by a passenger's tablet triggered the flight diversion on Monday.
The airline confirmed that Etihad Airways flight EY131 was diverted on September 16 to remove the device before making an onward flight to the US capital.
The diversion was a precautionary measure.
In a statement to Gulf News, an airline spokesperson said: “Etihad Airways flight EY131 operating from Abu Dhabi to Washington, D.C. on 16 September has diverted to Dublin as a precaution due to smoke emanating from a guest’s tablet device.
“The situation was managed swiftly by the crew and the aircraft landed safely in Dublin, where the device was removed before the flight continues to its destination.
"The safety and comfort of its guests and crew is Etihad’s top priority and we regret any discomfort or inconvenience caused by this necessary diversion."
Earlier this month, UAE carriers Etihad, Emirates and flydubai banned passengers from carrying Apple's MacBook Pro laptop computers in checked luggage as part of safety-related measures.
"Guests may still carry MacBook Pro laptops on flights, but only in cabin baggage. The laptops subject to the manufacturer's recall must remain switched off throughout the flight. Charging of the devices will not be permitted in flight," the Abu Dhabi based carrier said in statement.

Delta flight makes emergency landing in Fla. after plunging 30,000 feet
https://www.wkyt.com/content/news/Delta-flight-makes-emergency-land...
TAMPA, Fla. (WFTS/CNN/AP) - On Wednesday afternoon (Sept 18) , Delta Air Lines diverted an Atlanta flight headed to Florida after an unknown issue caused the cabin’s oxygen masks to be released. The plane dropped nearly 30,000 feet during an 8-minute period.
The Fort Lauderdale-bound plane made an emergency landing at Tampa International Airport about an hour after it left Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
“Out of nowhere I felt what felt like a sort of a rapid descent we started dropping in altitude and then air masks the oxygen masks dropped from the top of the plane chaos sort of ensued amongst the passengers," Harris DeWoskin, a Delta Flight 2353 passenger, said.
DeWoskin snapped photos during what he described as panic onboard the plane.
“Initially it was sort of a panic. There wasn’t really any forewarning. The oxygen masks dropped down. Then one of the flight attendants, I believe, grabbed the intercom and was just
repeatedly over the intercom stating, ‘Do not panic. Do not panic,’ but obviously it’s a hectic moment, so the passengers around me, a lot of people were kind of hyperventilating breathing really hard," DeWoskin said.
A statement by Delta says the plane was diverted out of an abundance of caution over the “cabin pressure irregularity.” It says the plane is now being evaluated by maintenance technicians.
“Eventually the captain came over the intercom and sort of explained there was a cabin pressure issue, a pressurization issue, so they began quickly descending obviously to get to some air that was more breathable, but they weren’t able to get low enough quick enough to keep the oxygen masks from falling down," DeWoskin said.
Safe on solid ground, DeWoskin is thankful it wasn’t worse.
“Life is fragile like there was a scary 60 to 90 seconds where we really didn’t know what was going on," he said.
Delta said the passengers were bused about four hours to their original destination. According to Delta’s website, the plane was a Boeing 767.

The special aircraft given to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan by Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman for his visit to the US made an emergency landing at the John F. Kennedy International Airport here after developing a technical snag.
Khan had taken off for home from New York's JFK International Airport on Friday evening in a special jet placed at his disposal by the Saudi government, but it flew back in a couple of hours to have the problem fixed, Pakistani media reported.
According to reports, the technical fault was being fixed and there was no cause for concern. The fault was noticed when the airplane was near Toronto.
Imran Khan is to spend the night in a private hotel in New York while the flight will be rescheduled after fixing the fault.
A Pakistani delegation, including Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, is accompanying Imran Khan. There was reportedly an issue in the plane's electronics system.
Pakistan's Ambassador to United Nations, Maleeha Lodhi, who had earlier seen off Imran Khan, rushed back to the airport.
Imran Khan, who led the Pakistan delegation to the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, waited at the airport for some time while technicians tried to fix the fault, but since more work was needed, they decided to fly on Saturday morning.
Lodhi escorted the Prime Minister back to the Roosevelt Hotel where he was staying during his hectic seven-day trip.
Officials said if the plane is not fixed in the morning, Imran Khan would take a commercial flight back to Pakistan where he is anxious to visit earthquake-hit areas and visit the affected families.

Tenerife blackout plunges tourists into darkness after power station explosion
17:32, 29 SEP 2019
Around one million people were estimated to have been affected by the blackout as trams ground to a halt and dozens of people got trapped in lifts
Updated17:37, 29 SEP 2019
Tourists were plunged into darkness after a massive blackout hit the popular Spanish island of Tenerife.
Trams in the capital of Santa Cruz grounded to a halt and around 70 people had to be rescued from lifts by fire crews after the power went down at around 1pm today.
Around one million people were estimated to have been affected by the blackout - although airports were reportedly not affected after generators kicked in.
Despite initial reports pointing to an incident in Candalaria, the power cut was later blamed on an explosion at a sub-station in Granadilla in the south of the island.
A map released by power company e-distribucion shows how the blackout affected the entire country, which is part of the Canary Islands.
Mains electricity began to be restored to parts of the island this afternoon.
Tram bosses in the capital Santa Cruz tweeted around 5.30pm local time they were “slowly” beginning to re-establish normal service.
A receptionist at the three-star Hotel Catalonia Oro Negro said the mains electricity was down but the hotel was functioning as normal with generators.
A receptionist at the Jardin Tropical Hotel in the neighbouring Adeje said the blackout was causing some problems and the air conditioning at the hotel was not working but “thankfully all the lifts were working” and there were no major calamities.
A Spanish bar owner in Los Cristianos said: “I’m not affected because there’s a generator in the building where the bar is but a lot of bars and restaurants in the area are without electricity and will have had to close.
“The blackout happened just before lunch so it couldn’t have occurred at a worst time.”
Brit Debbie Moyse, manager at the Cozy Cafe in Playa de Las Americas, added: “I reckon I’m going to lose around 10,000 euros in food alone.
“I’ve got four large-stand up freezers and seven catering fridges in the kitchen and everything in there will have to be thrown away.
“We’re well-known in the area for our Sunday lunches and we haven’t been able to serve any hot food since around 1pm.
“All I can serve are cakes and cold drinks till the ice melts.
"
At the moment I’ve got 20 people on the terrace getting stuck into the sangria while another customer has managed to put on some music through his phone.
“I’ve been in Tenerife for five years and have never heard of a blackout this size.
"The whole of the island has been hit.
"The owner has been here for 20 years and it’s the first time he’s heard of a blackout on this scale either.”
A spokesman for a local regional government-run emergency service coordinator said: “Mains electricity has gone down on the island of Tenerife. The provider is currently working on restoring service."
Tenerife’s mayor Patricia Hernández said on Twitter that Endesa would take six hours to repair the outage.

IndiGo flight 6E336, operating from Goa to Delhi on September 29 returned to Goa due to 'technical issues in engine', the airline said in statement.
Panaji: An IndiGo flight to Delhi had to return to the Goa airport and make an emergency landing after its engine developed "some technical issues" mid-air, the airline said on Monday.
Goa Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, who was among the passengers on the flight which took off from the coastal state on Sunday, told PTI that the aircraft's engine caught fire following which the plane had to return to the airport.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a probe into the incident.
IndiGo flight 6E336, operating from Goa to Delhi on September 29 returned to Goa due to "technical issues in engine", the airline said in statement.
"As per the laid down Standard Operating Procedures, our pilot landed the aircraft in Goa for inspection. All the passengers were accommodated on other flights to Delhi," a spokesperson of the airline said.
Nilesh Cabral, however, said the flight had to return after the aircraft's engine caught fire.
He later flew to Delhi in another plane. "The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has started an investigation into the IndiGo Goa-Delhi flight incident," a senior DGCA official said.

The spokesman says the 13 crew members helped 197 passengers safely deplane.
He said the airline was working to provide overnight accommodations to customers who would fly on Monday afternoon to Newark, New Jersey, and from there to Amsterdam, arriving Tuesday morning.
Details about the cabin pressurization issue weren’t available.

‘Huge Ball of Flame’: 5 Injured After Transformer Explodes at Huntington Beach Oktoberfest Event
When a series of electrical explosions rattled an Oktoberfest celebration in Huntington Beach Saturday night, it sent some people screaming and running through the streets, witnesses say.
The explosions came quickly, one after the other. Some witnesses described power outages as the first fireball shot up over the crowded Old World Village’s Oktoberfest celebration on Center Drive.
Authorities initially said four people suffered minor injuries in the incident, but later said five people were hurt, including an unidentified civilian who suffered moderate to severe injuries, according to Huntington Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Lopez.
Firefighters were called to Old World German Restaurant shortly after 8 p.m. to respond to a transformer fire. As an employee led them to the transformers in the vault room, an explosion suddenly erupted, knocking the employee and firefighters down, according to Lopez. Two firefighters were injured and taken to a local burn center for treatment and later released, officials said.
As firefighters got up, they noticed the employee that led them in was missing, Lopez said. They were searching for the person when another explosion followed about a minute later. The employee's condition is unclear.
A preliminary investigation found that one of the restaurant's three transformers exploded in an underground vault, authorities said.
The chief described the fire that resulted from the explosions as minimal, and said crews were able to extinguish the flames quickly.
Hundreds of people are believed to have been at the event at the time. The chief described a "dazed" crowd standing outside as crews were trying to manuever through to get to the fire.
Witness Kyle Nelson said he saw three large explosions in rapid succession coming from the festival Saturday.
Another witness said she was standing in line waiting to get in to one of the venues when she saw "a ball of flame that came up," followed by two more.
"Every one just panicked and just started running every which way," Glenis Peters said. "It was just chaos."
She described her friend grabbing her hand, and the two running away together, fearing everything would go up in flames.
"It was really scary, you can feel the heat from it," Peters said. "It was a huge ball of flame."
One employee working at the event told KTLA she smelled what she thought was gas shortly before the blasts.
On Sunday morning, crews could be seen outside the restaurant, working around what appeared to be an electrical transformer.
SoCal Edison is expected to continue the investigation to determine what went wrong with the transformer, Lopez said.
The blasts knocked out power for at least 300 customers in the area, but it was expected to be restored at around noon, authorities said.

Massive Verizon outage across the US as data, texting and calls fail - and no word about when the issue will be resolved
By STACY LIBERATORE FOR DAILYMAIL.COM
PUBLISHED: 17:22 EDT, 16 October 2019 | UPDATED: 17:44 EDT, 16 October 2019
America’s ‘most reliable’ network has gone down.
Verizon appears to be out across the entire US, with the most recent reports coming in from New York City, Houston, Texas and Los Angeles, California.
The outage appears to be effecting data, payments, calls and texting for customers -- no official statement has been given by the communications and Technology Company yet.
It appears the outage began around 10 AM ET, subsided and then spiked back up again at 3 PM ET –Verizon has yet to make a statement regarding the issue.
Downdetector is showing much of the coastal areas experiencing this inconvenience.
This includes Los Angeles, California, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, New York City, Atlanta, Georgia and more.
And many Verizon users have flocked to Twitter to share their frustrations – one demanding the firm gets its ‘crap together’.
The outage comes a few months after Verizon customers on the US East Coast were hit by a massive outage, leaving thousands unable to send text messages.
The problem has affected Verizon users from New York to the southern tip of Florida, along with parts of the south and the Great Lakes area.
It appeared mostly to involve mobile phone and internet service, though some have reported issues with landline service as well.
Reports of service issues began shortly after 5 a.m. ET, and quickly grew to the thousands.
On social media, many customers have expressed frustration at the lack of updates from the company.
While Verizon hasn’t posted a statement on its Verizon Support, Verizon Wireless CS, or Verizon Twitter accounts, it confirmed the outage in a reply to a customer inquiry at 8:04 a.m. – about three hours into the texting blackout.
‘We have confirmed there is a texting outage on the east coast,’ the Verizon Wireless CS account tweeted in the reply.
‘Our technicians a fully aware we have a ton of customers that are being effected, and we're working non-stop to get this matter resolved as soon as possible.

Dramatic moment $24MILLION luxury yacht weighing 195 TONS plows into smaller boats moored at a Washington State port causing $100,000 in damage
By ARIEL ZILBER FOR DAILYMAIL.COM
PUBLISHED: 15:52 EDT, 17 October 2019 | UPDATED: 16:23 EDT, 17 October 2019
Surveillance cameras captured the dramatic moment that a 125ft yacht worth $24million crashed into a fuel dock and smaller vessels causing $100,000 in damages.
The incident took place on the morning of October 7, when Captain Steve Peckham, of the Westport Yacht company, moored a new Westport 125 at a fuel dock at Port Angeles Boat Haven just outside of Seattle, Washington.
But before the fueling process could begin, the boat began to accelerate forwards, sailing headlong into several smaller boats and the jetty, according to Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies say that they do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
The collision resulted in damages exceeding $100,000, according to sheriff’s deputies.
No one was injured.
The yacht, which is owned by Westport, was getting ready to travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for delivery to its new owner, according to the Peninsula Daily News.
‘It was tied up at the fuel dock and all of a sudden took off, charging forward,’ John Nutter, the director of properties, marinas, and airports, said.
‘It accelerated forward for unknown reasons.’
The sheriff’s office Marine Patrol Unit, the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Unit, and the Port Angeles Police Department are handling the investigation.
‘It possibly had something to do with the on board electronics,’ Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said of the possible cause.
‘We don’t know if it was a software malfunction or electrical failure, something to that effect.’
The sheriff’s office said that the six-person crew was made up of Peckham and five other individuals, all of whom are employees of Westport.
Nutter said that Westport ‘will be covering all damages.’
The 195-ton Westport 125 is billed as a ‘next generation motoryacht’ which can house up to 10 people in five guest cabins - or staterooms - as well as crew quarters that can fit six members, including the captain.
Each guest cabin has a bathroom and living quarters.
The master stateroom is on deck forward. It includes two bathrooms as well as wardrobes.
The four guest staterooms, which have a private entrance from the lower deck midship foyer, offer a choice of queen-size or twin-size beds.
DailyMail.com has reached out to Westport for comment.

US Navy ‘doomsday’ aircraft grounded by bird strike 18 Oct, 2019
A Navy “doomsday” aircraft designed to be used as a command center in a nuclear war was knocked out of commission – by a bird, which caused over $2 million in damages when it was sucked into an engine during a test flight.
The E-6B Mercury plane was grounded after an unidentified species of bird was sucked into one of its four engines during a test flight at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland earlier this month. The plane was conducting a touch-and-go landing when the “Class A” accident occurred, causing over $2 million in damages and requiring the replacement of the entire engine. Plane carrying 152 people makes emergency landing in Jacksonville
https://www.firstcoastnews.com/article/news/local/plane-carrying-15...
All 152 people aboard JetBlue flight 2581 got quite a scare Monday after the pilot reported a possible fire in the baggage compartment, which caused the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Jacksonville.
According to FlightAware, the Airbus took off from Ft. Lauderdale at 11:04 a.m. and was heading to Nashville when it made a detour around 11:45 a.m due to an indicator light that was signaling a fire in the front cargo hold.
The plane landed safely at Jacksonville International Airport at 12:04 p.m. and is currently being checked out by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
“I've been flying 15 to 20 years and I’ve never ever been on a plane that’s been diverted, never ever,” passenger Kim Christ said. “The great news is they landed very safely, could’ve been much worse.”
Christ said it didn’t take long for her to realize the plane was starting its descent far before Nashville.
“They said a signal had come on and there was something going on in the cargo area and we needed to land in Jacksonville so that they could check it out,” she added.
JetBlue released a statement to First Coast News saying:
"On Monday, JetBlue flight 2581 from Fort Lauderdale to Nashville diverted to Jacksonville out of an abundance of caution following an alert of possible smoke in the cargo hold. The flight landed safely around noon. Initial inspections of the aircraft found no signs of any issues. The aircraft will be further inspected and customers will continue on to Nashville aboard a new aircraft."
Passengers were rerouted on other planes.
Christ was quite calm when she spoke to First Coast News and said the staff and her fellow passengers were the same while the plane was still in the air.
“Even up there sitting, waiting for the updates, everyone got meal vouchers and everybody is waiting for the updates and everybody is extremely calm and very professional,” she said.
Christ added it was a rare experience, to say the least.
“I rarely fly JetBlue," she said. "Today was the day, they’ve done a great job. I fly every week, that won’t change.”

British Airways plane which filled with smoke has had two more 'fume incidents' - despite new engine
The British Airways plane which was filled with smoke has had two further “fume events” onboard, despite it being fitted with a new engine, it has emerged.
It comes as some passengers are considering taking legal action against the airline, after they claim the thick white smoke has left them with breathing difficulties.
The London Heathrow to Valencia flight, BA422, was forced to make an emergency landing on August 5 after the cabin filled with smoke 10 minutes before landing.
BA have said they are awaiting the conclusions of the Spanish authorities air accident report, from the CIAIAC, to determine the cause of the incident.
But The Telegraph can reveal the aircraft was put back into operation just one month after the incident, following the replacement of one of its engines.
Despite this, the A321 aircraft has gone on to experience two further “fume events” onboard.
BA would not give details of what the incidents were, but said fume events were caused by a variety of issues, including “burnt food in the oven, aerosols and e-cigarettes, strongly-smelling food in cabin bags, and de-icing fluid”.
Cabin air enters the plane via a system which compresses air from the engines, and campaigners say a “fume event” occurs when the air becomes contaminated by chemicals such as engine oil, hydraulic fluid, or other potentially hazardous chemicals.
The airliner confirmed the plane was put back into service after an extensive investigation by BA engineers who ruled it was safe to fly, but they have not commented on what caused the smoke.
In a letter seen by The Telegraph, sent to passengers onboard the flight, BA said “it appears at this stage that the incident was caused by a failure of an engine bearing”.
Despite the engine being replaced, two more fume events have been recorded on the same aircraft in the last two months.
The first occurred just one day after the Airbus 321 was put back into operation on September 6, on a flight from Copenhagen to London Heathrow.
The second on October 9, on a flight between London Heathrow and Aberdeen.

The 175 passengers onboard the August 5 flight had to slide down emergency shutes onto the runway at Valencia airport and were left “hyperventilating” and “crying”.
Zannah Marchand wrote on Twitter: "Just been evacuated off a flight to Valencia after plane filled with smoke. No water, no first aid. People crying. No BA representative. Help."
Professor Vyvyan Howard, a emeritus professor of pathology at the University of Ulster, has researched the effects of fume events upon crew and passenger health.
“As this fleet (of aircraft) ages, I would suspect these sorts of events will increase in frequency,” he said.
“In the long run they will probably have to redesign aircraft, as they have done in the Dreamliner 787.”
The air system on the Boeing Dreamliner 787 is pumped into the cabin separately from the engines.
Prof. Howard said if the “oil seal” on an engine fails then it is “pretty much guaranteed” that fumes will enter the cabin.
He added previous studies have shown the presence of dangerous chemicals in cabin air after these fume events.
“(Airlines) say ‘oh it’s something burning in the gally’, but you can’t see in front of your nose,” Prof. Howard said.
“They always mention that it might be due to other things, but here you’ve got an acrid fume throughout the cabin, and there is not much doubt about where those have come from.”
In a statement BA said: “We are legally unable to comment on causes until the Spanish air accident investigation is concluded.
“We would never operate an aircraft if we believed it posed any health or safety risk to our customers or crew.
“Research commissioned by the European Aviation Safety Agency, in 2017 concluded that the air quality on board aircraft was similar or better than that observed in normal indoor environments.
“We always encourage our colleagues to tell us about any concerns they have, with reports passed onto the Civil Aviation Agency.
“Safety is our first priority and every report is thoroughly investigated, with typically 151 engineering checks before an aircraft is cleared to continue flying.”

Every Single US East Coast Aircraft Carrier Is Docked for Repairs 10-30-2019
"And then there is the USS Harry S. Truman: the aging flattop was scheduled to be deactivated by the Pentagon in a bid to save billions of dollars, but the decision was reversed by the Trump administration in April. However, after the warship suffered a massive electrical failure in August, it was forced to return to Norfolk for repairs, even as the rest of Truman’s battle group sailed on without it."
Amid a heap of repairs, refuelings and overhauls, all six of the US Navy’s aircraft carriers assigned to the East Coast are in port at the same time. The Navy is pulling itself increasingly thin in an effort to accomodate the Pentagon’s program for “great power competition” with Russia and China.
As of this article’s publishing, not one of the US Navy’s carriers on the Atlantic coast is ready for deployment – all six are tied up dockside in Norfolk, Virginia. Earlier this year, several of the huge, 100,000-ton warships returned to Norfolk for a series of overhauls, but others have encountered unexpected problems.

Department of Homeland Security Advise
Before Space Weather Occurs
Space weather can have an impact on our advanced technologies which has a direct impact on our daily lives. The main area of concern will most likely be our nation's electric power grid. Northern territories are more vulnerable to these effects than areas farther south. Generally, power outages due to space weather are very rare events, but evidence suggests that significant effects could occur. These power outages may have cascading effects, causing:
Loss of water and wastewater distribution systems
Loss of perishable foods and medications
Loss of heating/air conditioning and electrical lighting systems
Loss of computer systems, telephone systems, and communications systems (including disruptions in airline flights, satellite networks and GPS services)
Loss of public transportation systems
Loss of fuel distribution systems and fuel pipelines
Loss of all electrical systems that do not have back-up power
To begin preparing, you should build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan. Other steps you can take include:
Fill plastic containers with water and place them in the refrigerator and freezer if there's room. Leave about an inch of space inside each one, because water expands as it freezes. This chilled or frozen water will help keep food cold during a temporary power outage.
Be aware that most medication that requires refrigeration can be kept in a closed refrigerator for several hours without a problem. If unsure, check with your physician or pharmacist.
Keep your car tank at least half full because gas stations rely on electricity to power their pumps.
Know where the manual release lever of your electric garage door opener is located and how to operate it. Garage doors can be heavy, so know that you may need help to lift it.
Keep a key to your house with you if you regularly use the garage as the primary means of entering your home, in case the garage door will not open.
Keep extra batteries for your phone in a safe place or purchase a solar-powered or hand crank charger. These chargers are good emergency tools to keep your laptop and other small electronics working in the event of a power outage. If you own a car, purchase a car phone charger because you can charge your phone if you lose power at your home.
If you have a traditional landline (non-broadband or VOIP) phone, keep at least one non-cordless receiver in your home because it will work even if you lose power.
Prepare a family contact sheet. This should include at least one out-of-town contact that may be better able to reach family members in an emergency.
Make back-up copies of important digital data and information, automatically if possible, or at least weekly.
During Space Weather Occurrence
Follow energy conservation measures to keep the use of electricity as low as possible, which can help power companies avoid imposing rolling blackouts during periods when the power grid is compromised.
Follow the Emergency Alert System (EAS) instructions carefully.
Disconnect electrical appliances if instructed to do so by local officials.
Do not use the telephone unless absolutely necessary, during emergency situations keeping lines open for emergency personnel can improve response.
After Space Weather Occurrence
Throw out unsafe food:
Throw away any food that has been exposed to a temperature of 40° F (4° C) or higher for 2 hours or more or that has an unusual odor, color, or texture. When in doubt, throw it out!
Never taste food or rely on appearance or odor to determine its safety. Some foods may look and smell fine, but if they have been at room temperature too long, bacteria causing food-borne illnesses can start growing quickly. Some types of bacteria produce toxins that cannot be destroyed by cooking.
If food in the freezer is colder than 40° F and has ice crystals on it, you can refreeze it.
If you are not sure food is cold enough, take its temperature with a food thermometer.

Fire and Gas Explosion in Battery Room of Norwegian Ferry Prompts Lithium-Ion Power Warning
From October 15 2019 article
Norwegian authorities are warning shipowners and operators about the dangers associated with lithium-ion battery systems after a fire and subsequent gas explosion on board a diesel-electric ferry in Norway.
The small fire was reported October 10 in the battery room of the Norled passenger ferry MF Ytterøyningen. The ferry returned to harbor under its own power where passengers and crew were evacuated to land.
Overnight, however, a serious gas explosion rocked the battery room causing significant damage.
Norwegian broadcasting company NRK reported that twelve firefighters were taken to the hospital for exposure to hazardous gases associated with the batteries.
“The Norwegian Maritime Authority recommends that all shipowners with vessels that have battery installations, carry out a new risk assessment of the dangers connected to possible accumulations of explosive gases during unwanted incidents in the battery systems,” the Norwegian Maritime Authority said in statement.
Alternatively, British Columbia-based, Corvus Energy, which supplied the ferry’s battery system, has issued recommendations to operators not to sail without communication between the shipboard energy management system and the battery packs, as well as what to do in case of a gas release or “thermal runaway situation.
Thermal runaway occurs when lithium-ion cell temperatures exceed the thermal runaway threshold, resulting in the sudden release of flammable, toxic gases and excessive heat that could result in an explosion.
The Norwegian Maritime Authority says the exact sequence of events in the Ytterøyningen fire has not been established, but it will issue a Safety Message update when additional facts, information and causal connections are made.
All of this has major implications for Norwegian ferry operators who are increasingly turning to hybrid diesel-electric or fully-electric power for vessels operating in environmentally sensitive fjords and coastal areas.
The Ytterøyningen was delivered in 2006 and is equipped with a Corvus Orca Energy storage system (ESS) with 1989 kWh capacity.
The Norwegian Maritime Authority circular addressing the hazards can be found here.

The crew of a Republic Airways Embraer ERJ-175 had to fight for their lives after losing control of the aircraft shortly after takeoff from Atlanta Airport.
Pilots struggled with the controls and made several attempts at landing.
The dramatic incident unfolded over Atlanta on Wednesday, after American Eagle flight 4439 took off for New York, with six passengers and four crew on board. Just four minutes into the flight, contracted by American Airlines, the crew reported they were experiencing so-called “trim runaway.”
The term refers to an aircraft losing its ability to adjust its horizontal heading, as its trim surfaces begin to deflect out of control. Such issue is usually caused by a software glitch or a technical malfunction.

American Airlines admitted a mid-air accident that knocked out 2 flight crew and forced an emergency landing was not caused by spilled soap
https://www.businessinsider.com/american-airlines-admits-flight-att...
On October 21, American Airlines flight 729 was flying from London Heathrow to Philadelphia, but was forced to land in Dublin, Ireland, when two staff members were ...
American Airlines said at the time that the incident was caused by "an odor caused by a spilled cleaning solution in the galley."
However, on Monday, the BBC reported that a spilled chemical was not the cause of the unconscious staff, but rather an oil leak on the Airbus 330 aircraft was to blame.
The BBC reported that maintenance records on the plane show that it "had been leaking oil prior to the flight."
Citing sources, the BBC claimed "it is likely the leak caused toxic fumes to enter the cabin."
The leak, the BBC said, was present in the plane's auxiliary power unit (APU), which provides power for things like lighting, air conditioning and other electrical functions on aircraft.
Documents cited by the BBC reportedly show that the aircraft's APU showed unusually high oil consumption in the days before the incident.
In a statement provided to the BBC, American acknowledged that a spilled cleaning product was "not the source of the odor, which led to the diversion of this flight."
It did not, however, corroborate the BBC's story about an oil leak.
Audio from the plane's cockpit published by The Daily Telegraph at the time appears to show that pilots on the aircraft genuinely believed that a spilled cleaning product was behind the incident.
In the audio, pilots can be heard telling Irish air traffic controllers that two crew members had been rendered unconscious, and that people on the plane needed medical assistance after the spill.
"We've had two of our flight crew staff made, excuse me, the cabin staff have actually lost consciousness, but I think they're back to a state of consciousness just now and there are general complaints about burning eyes and skin problems."
"We've actually covered the container of the substance. It was a cleaning product that was used at London Heathrow, if you wait a moment I actually have a picture of the container that I have in a plastic bag," the pilot continued.

Mystery blackout at major airport in California strands holiday travelers
Nov 27th 2019 4:21AM
The power has been restored to Oakland International Airport, after an outage left Thanksgiving travelers stranded in security lines, stuck on planes, seated in the dark, or unable to collect baggage.
An airport spokesperson said in an emailed statement to Business Insider that the cause for the power outage is still under investigation.
"Oakland International Airport is investigating a power disruption affecting terminal and flight operations this evening. Security screening was temporarily halted but has resumed," the spokesperson wrote. "Flight arrivals continued during the outage, however, some departures were delayed. Terminal power is nearing full restoration at this time. The Airport is working to determine the cause of the outage and will provide further updates as they become available."
Photos circulating on social media from people in the airport showed passengers sitting on the floor and long lines for security check-ins.
Some travelers tweeted that they were not able to get their bags, due to the power outage. The airport tweeted that it expected that airlines would contact passengers whose bags were left because of the power outage.
Mariam Bouricius, a passenger on a Southwest flight that was supposed to depart to Houston, told Business Insider at 8:20 p.m. local time that she had been on a Houston-bound plane for nearly two hours waiting for power to be restored.
"We have been getting updates about every 10mins from either the captain or flight attendants," she said. "They've been great about doing water service and being diligent about answering what they can."
She added that the flight was still waiting at around 8:20 p.m. local time to depart after power had been restored. A tweet from Bouricius at 9:12 p.m. indicated that she had not yet left: "Update from the captain: the jetway won't turned on so we can't move the plane.
Departures from Oakland were averaging delays of 25 minutes shortly into the power outage, while arrivals were delayed an average of 40 minutes, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. Times were expected to lengthen as delays continued to build. As of 9:30 p.m. local time "arrival delays for airborne aircraft an average of 38 minutes,
departure delays an average of 1 hours 40 minutes," according to FlightAware.
Nearly 32 million Americans are expected to travel by air during the 12-day period surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday, from November 22 to December 3, 2019, according to industry trade group Airlines for America (A4A). 2.82 million were forecasted to fly on Tuesday, making it the third-busiest day before the holiday on Thursday.

Flight from Tel Aviv causes London panic as scrambled jets set off sonic boom
RAF planes sent to check US-bound retired El Al aircraft after it briefly goes unresponsive over British airspace; bang wakes many residents of capital at 4 a.m.
https://www.timesofisrael.com/flight-from-tel-aviv-causes-london-pa...
A Boeing 767 plane flying from Israel to the United States went unresponsive over the United Kingdom early Sunday, causing Royal Air Force jets to be scrambled towards it and setting off a sonic boom that sounded throughout London.
The retired El Al plane, which according to the Ynet news site had been sold to a German company, took off from Ben Gurion Airport on its way to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in the US. On the way, around 4 a.m. (UK time), it did not respond to British authorities’ attempt to contact it due to a communications malfunction.
Two Typhoon fighter jets were scrambled from an Royal Air Force base in Coningsby and intercepted the plane, UK media reported. After communications with the aircraft were restored, the flight continued as planned toward the US and the fighter jets returned to their base.
But while the incident ended safely, it definitely didn’t end quietly. The air force planes had been cleared to go faster than the speed of sound on their way to intercept the unresponsive aircraft, setting off a loud bang that woke up many residents of Britain’s capital.

Tesla fires have become a battleground for the company's supporters and detractors.

Tesla is facing new scrutiny from a federal auto safety agency around battery issues in some Model S and Model X vehicles.
A notice published Tuesday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states the agency launched an investigation into a possible defect tied to battery packs that could cause “non-crash fires” in some Teslas
A defect petition submitted to NHTSA by consumer attorney Edward Chen prompted the investigation.
Chen filed the petition on behalf of Tesla owners, including his client David Rasmussen, after Tesla pushed over-the-air software updates to some vehicles, which reduced the range the electric cars could travel on a single charge, owners said.
The petition complained that the software updates, which started in May 2019, were not an appropriate fix for batteries that could ignite in non-crash scenarios.
Chen wrote, in a letter submitted to the Department of Transportation and NHTSA, accompanying the petition: “Tesla is using over-the-air software updates to mask and cover-up a potentially widespread and dangerous issue with the batteries in their vehicles.”
Following the investigation into the battery fire and throttling issues, NHTSA will either decide to issue a recall-- which would be financially burdensome to Tesla and could tarnish its reputation-- or is required to publish its findings in the federal register if a recall is not necessary.
Tesla is striving to reduce the costs of its batteries. In the past two years, the company struggled with waste and quality control at its giant battery plant, the Gigafactory, outside of Reno, Nevada.
Representatives from Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.
In 2016, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that he believed most safety complaints filed to NHTSA were “fraudulent” and suggested such complaints were part of a broad conspiracy to thwart his electric vehicle company.
