On Monday, May 11th, we had a surge of power through our house so great, that it magnified the brightness of our lightbulbs tenfold. The lights and one of the circuits proceeded to burn out, and the surge fried anything that was plugged in—as a strong burst of magnetic energy would. Even a surge strip did not keep the cable box from being fried. This type of situation has never occurred in our home in over 50 years. The event occurred at a little after 13:00 pm CST, or 18:00 UTC. No source was found for the surge, only a fried wire, which had caused a burning smell in the home. Certainly a malfunctioning wire, more than like fried by the surge as well, would not cause a surge in power, but a reduction in it. Would the Zetas care to comment on whether we are now experiencing EMPs from PX on a more frequent basis? If so, would it be recommended that all electronics not in use be disconnected from their power source? Space was relatively quiet, but the magnetosphere was fluctuating widely. [and from another] http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/live-deansgate-power-cut-updates-9258700 The cut was said to have been caused by an electrical surge. People in the area say "Smoke was coming from the electric cupboard from 86 Deansgate when the power surge hit. 4 fire engines responded to the call". Jade Barrow is a receptionist at 86 Deansgate, and said the whole building shook. She said: "The firemen explained to me that an electrical surge is like 2 magnets hitting each other. That's why it all shook because of the force." [and from another]http://poleshift.ning.com/profiles/blog/show?id=3863141%3ABlogPost%3A998556&commentId=3863141%3AComment%3A999341&xg_source=activity May 15. After 15 days with approximately 300 hours of missing data, it appears the uninterrupted BATSRUS RCM image feed has resumed.
Air France 447 in 2009 and Malaysia 370 and the recent Germanwings A320 are in the news because they impact the airline industry, and the blame thus placed elsewhere. To date, pilot suicide, storms, and bad pilot judgement have been used, and how is the public to know otherwise? Electric trains such as the Disney Monorail and DC Metro crash incidents in 2009 and the recent Amtrak 188 go into investigation while talking heads murmur about safety devices or track maintenance or mechanical failure, which ultimately get the blame.
It is only when the public is broadly affected that the public can get a hint that something else is afoot. Cell phones are regularly having disrupted service but the blame is placed on blocked access to towers or bad weather. The blackberry outage in 2008 was blamed on a software glitch. If the public is frankly being lied to, engineers responsible for maintaining equipment and the grid are not fooled. The talk has spilled over into the press, or into conversations with the public. During the Washington DC blackout, the electrical problem was described at first by the Washington Post as a “surge”.
This is a key determinant between a failed electrical system, a simple outage, and electro-magnetic pulse. Pulse is a surge, and the sudden increase in the amount of magnetons and their associated electrons, such that equipment controlled by a steady pace of either particle flow goes into a runaway state. When equipment is guarded by surge protection, to guard against lightning strikes, it will shut down, as a brownout situation can damage equipment. But unless a lightning strike was present, there can be no excuse for a pulse or surge other than the presence of the charged tail of Planet X, aka Nibiru.
What can the public expect? As cell phone service and cable TV via satellite continues to degrade, as airplanes increasingly crash during complete electronics failure or are forced to land with smoke in their cockpits, as electric trains surge off the tracks and brakes fail, as transformers explode at dams and on the grid, and as residential lights flicker and erratic and unexplained and spotty blackouts descend, the public can expect endless inane excuses from the establishment. The truth will be withheld because mankind is so dependent upon his electrical systems and equipment that the thought of being without is unthinkable. It is mass denial.

BOGOTA, Colombia -- A chartered plane with a Brazilian first division soccer team crashed near Medellin while on its way to the finals of a regional tournament, killing 76 people, Colombian officials said Tuesday. Only four people are believed to have survived.
The British Aerospace 146 short-haul plane, operated by a charter airline named LaMia, declared an emergency at 10 p.m. Monday (0300 GMT) because of an electrical failure, aviation authorities said. As CBSN’s Josh Elliot reports, the plane crashed not long after that, just five minutes from its destination.
The team, from southern Brazil and which had started its journey in Sao Paulo, was scheduled to play Wednesday in the first of a two-game Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional of Medellin.
“What was supposed to be a celebration has turned into a tragedy,” Medellin Mayor Federico Gutierrez said from the search and rescue command center..."

L.I.R.R. Train That Crashed (Jan 4) Was Going Over Twice Speed Limit, Inquiry Finds
http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/05/nyregion/lirr-train-crash-speed-l...
A Long Island Rail Road train that crashed in Brooklyn on Wednesday was going more than twice the speed limit when it slammed into a train station, injuring more than 100 people, federal investigators said on Thursday.
The train was traveling at more than 10 miles per hour when it hit the end of the tracks at Atlantic Terminal, where the speed limit is 5 m.p.h., said Ted Turpin, an investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board. He said that federal officials were investigating the crash and had not yet determined the cause.
The train rammed into a bumping block during the morning rush, striking a room beyond the track and causing the first two cars to derail. The accident was reminiscent of a deadly crash in September in which a New Jersey Transit train plowed into Hoboken Terminal, killing a woman and injuring over 100 people. (That train was also traveling over twice the speed limit there when it crashed.)
On Thursday, Mr. Turpin said the engineer who was operating the Long Island Rail Road train told investigators he could not remember the crash.
“He does recall entering into the station and controlling the speed of the train,” Mr. Turpin said at a news conference. “But then the next thing he realized was after the collision.”
Investigators have not released the engineer’s name, but Mr. Turpin said that he was 50 and had started as an engineer at the railroad in 1999. The engineer had started working around midnight on Tuesday and was nearing the end of his shift at the time of the crash, Mr. Turpin said.
In the Hoboken crash, the engineer, Thomas Gallagher, also said he did not remember the crash. His lawyer later said that Mr. Gallagher had an undiagnosed sleep disorder and discovered after the crash that he had severe sleep apnea, which disrupts sleep and may cause excessive daytime sleepiness.
The engineer of the Long Island Rail Road train has been tested for drugs, but the results were not available, federal investigators said on Thursday. The engineer told investigators that he was not using his cellphone at the time of the crash.
Federal investigators said they planned on Friday to interview a conductor and an assistant conductor who were also on the train. They also intend to interview two railroad employees who witnessed the crash.
Mr. Turpin noted that a safety technology, known as positive train control, was not in place on the tracks where the crash happened, even though it was possible that the technology could have slowed the train. Officials from the safety board have long called for railroads to install the system to help prevent train accidents, though Mr. Turpin noted it was not required in train terminals.
Nearly two years ago, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority secured a nearly $1 billion loan from the Federal Railroad Administration to install positive train control on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. Officials at the authority are working to meet a 2018 deadline to install the technology.

United flights delayed after computer glitch grounds U.S. planes
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-ual-flights-idUSKBN15705C
A computer problem forced United Airlines (UAL.N) to ground all domestic flights for about an hour on Sunday evening, causing a cascade of delays and annoying customers throughout the United States.
The "ground halt", which the unit of United Continental Holdings Inc disclosed in a tweet at 8:06 pm ET and lifted about an hour later, follows a series of problems at United and other airlines last year.
International flights were not affected, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The number of flights that were affected was not known.
"The ground stop has been lifted. We're working to get flights on their way," United said in a tweet. bit.ly/2jQRW6B.
United said it would waive change fees for passengers with a 'travel waiver' but passengers took their frustration to social media and the Chicago-based airline started responding to their tweets.
"This has been the worst customer service experience and worst flying service ever experienced in 30+ years," one passenger tweeted.
"My minor son, the one stuck in Tampa with a tumor in his skull? You just told him he can't stay in a hotel. What's your plan?", another passenger tweeted to which the company responded asking for her son's travel details.
"We are working as quickly as possible to resolve this issue and get out customers to their final destinations," a company spokeswoman Maddie King said in an emailed statement earlier.
In October, thousands of United passengers were delayed worldwide after a computer glitch temporarily halted departures.
In June, software needed to dispatch United's flight plan briefly lost functionality and in July, the same airline's flights were disrupted after a computer problem blocked access to reservations records.
Last week, Air Canada (AC.TO) and Toronto-based Porter Airlines also experienced brief glitches that prompted some flight cancellations.

Delta systems finally back online after hours-long technical glitch grounded all domestic flights and left thousands of passengers stranded across the country (Jan 29)

By Associated Press and Ariel Zilber For Dailymail.com
Delta Air Lines announced late Sunday that it has resolved its technical malfunction that led to the cancellation of scores of flights nationwide, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at airports for hours.
The company tweeted on Sunday night that its ground stop has been lifted and that its planes have once again began departing for their domestic destinations, according to CBS News.
'I want to apologize to all of our customers who have been impacted by this frustrating situation,' Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement posted to the company website.
'This type of disruption is not acceptable to the Delta family who prides itself on reliability and customer service. I also want to thank our employees who are working tirelessly to accommodate our customers.'
Earlier Sunday evening, Delta grounded all of its its domestic flights because of 'automation issues.'
Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant said the airline was facing a 'systems outage' but flights already in the air were unaffected.
The Atlanta-based airline responded to customer complaints on Twitter by saying it was experiencing technical issues and was 'working hard to get them fixed quickly to minimize the impact to our customers.'
The Federal Aviation Administration said that international flights were exempt from the grounding.
In August, Delta suffered a computer breakdown after a power outage in its operations center. The airline canceled more than 2,000 flights over three days.
'Delta teams are expeditiously working to fix a systems outage that has resulted in departure delays and cancellations for flights on the ground,' the company said on its website.
'Flights in the air remain unaffected. Some customers are experiencing delays upon landing, particularly at Delta’s hub airports.'
'Delta apologizes to customers for the inconvenience.'
Travelers took to social media on Sunday to report outages and disruptions at airports in Atlanta, New York, Houston, Tucson, Austin, and other cities.
One passenger who identified herself as Lina Martinez tweeted that she was stuck in Memphis after her flight was diverted.
Delta also scrambled to field complaints from stranded passengers.
A company representative was busy answering questions from affected travelers on its Twitter feed.

Mysterious Power Outage Plunges Brussels into Darkness (Feb 9)
The sounds of sirens were reported throughout the Belgian capital.
Videos and photos posted on social media showed the eerie scene.
“Power out as far as I can see in all directions,” tweeted Jennifer Baker.
While the cause of the outage was initially not known, a spokesperson for Brussels’ power supplier, Sibelga, later reported the blackout was the result of an electric network distribution problem.
The northern part of Brussels was said to have been affected the worst by the blackout, which was first reported at around 10:45 p.m. local time.
An earlier power outage struck a portion of city several hours earlier, but was resolved by 8:30pm.
Residents have been forced to use candles and have posted pictures of their efforts to restore light on social media.
Lights are still on in some EU buildings, including the European Council and European Commission headquarters.

Seventy tourists 'abseiled' 250ft to safety after two cable cars stopped in mid air
Dramatic rescue took place yesterday afternoon on Mount Teide in Tenerife
Helicopters, firemen, police and park rangers were called in to help the tourists
The dramatic rescue took place yesterday afternoon on the island's 3,700 metre high volcano.
Helicopters, firemen, police and park rangers were called in to help with a pulley system to get the trapped tourists back on the ground.
One by one, they were lowered to safety during a four hour rescue operation. Each one was placed in a harness and then dropped through the hatch of the cable car.
A spokesman for the cable car operator said the emergency system had stopped the cable cars midway, presumably having detected a fault or problem.
The stuck cable cars were about 40 to 50 metres above the ground. One French couple on board said they felt a 'strong blow' as the cable car shuddered to a halt.

Eight rescued as fishing boat burns and sinks off Galicia
The eight crew on board the “O Busi” fishing boat were rescued from the Atlantic in dramatic circumstances on Wednesday after their vessel caught fire 12 miles off the coast of Cedeira, in the Galicia province of A
Coruña.
When the fire broke out at approximately 18.00 all eight men took to a tiny inflatable emergency capsule, and were relieved when the Helimer 215 helicopter belonging to Spain’s maritime rescue service arrived at the scene just 20 minutes later. However, the rescue mission was only just beginning, and as the boat continued to burn not far away the crew, who consisted of two Peruvians and six from Galicia, were airlifted one by one to the safety of the helicopter.
They were then taken to the aerodrome of Alvedro, where they arrived at 18.55, and only the skipper of the
boat required hospital treatment, due to this having inhaled smoke. The O Busi, a 16-year-old vessel measuring 16 metres in length, sank shortly afterwards.
It is rare for the maritime rescue service to highlight the efforts of one of their members, but special mention is due in this case to Pablo Camino, the man who was lowered into the sea to attach rescue harnesses to each of the eight men one by one. Salvamento Marítimo have praised his enormous skill, bravery and level of physical fitness in this operation, and have described him as “the hero of the day”.

Corpus Christi, Texas- Flaring at the Valero West Plant caused some alarm around the city today. Towering flames and smoke could be seen for miles. (Apr 3)
http://www.kristv.com/story/35061343/valero-flaring-seen-from-all-o...
For our viewers who don't know, flaring is something refineries do to relieve pressure. It's a routine process that happens from time to time, but today's flaring was one of the more noticeable occurrences. To the average person, it probably looked like an explosion had happened.
This all started when the plant lost power around noon. When something like that happens, pressure builds up, and Valero has to relieve that pressure by burning product. That's when you see flames and smoke coming from tower flare units, and in this case, a ground unit too.
A nearby AEP substation malfunction caused that power outage, which affected several schools in the area too. Power was restored several hours later.
Valero says there may be occasional flaring over the next 24 hours while the plant restores operations. The Refinery Terminal Fire Company and the Corpus Christi Fire Department are monitoring the air.

2 emergency landings in Little Rock after electrical issues
LITTLE ROCK — Officials say no injuries were reported after two planes made emergency landings at Little Rock's airport in unrelated incidents Sunday.
Clinton National Airport spokesman Shane Carter says one flight traveling from Houston to Columbus, Ohio, landed safely in Little Rock at about 5 p.m. Sunday after a reported issue with the plane's electronic equipment.
An hour later, an American Airlines flight traveling from Destin, Florida, to Dallas made an emergency landing in Little Rock, too. An American Airlines spokeswoman tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/2oQm2WF ) that the plane was diverted because of a mechanical issue that had caused "an electrical odor in the cabin."
The plane landed safely just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

False Alarm Forces Emergency Landing of San Diego-Bound Flight (Apr 9)
http://timesofsandiego.com/crime/2017/04/09/false-alarm-prompts-fli...
A SkyWest airliner bound for San Diego was diverted to Modesto with an emergency landing Sunday morning.
It happened when an indicator light in the cockpit notified the crew there was a fire in the cargo hold, according to airline officials.
Fortunately, no one was injured and there was no actual fire on board SkyWest Flight 3391, operating as Alaska Airlines. The notification proved to be a false alarm. It was not clear why the indicator light for cargo fires was activated.
“The flight landed safely at 6:48 a.m. and after a brief delay passengers deplaned normally at the gate,” airline spokeswoman McKall Morris said. “Safety is always our top priority.”
The Embraer E175 with two flight crew members and two flight attendants was carrying 55 passengers from Sacramento to San Diego International Airport at Lindbergh Field when it diverted.
“Our maintenance team and the fire department inspected the aircraft and found no issues,” Morris said. “We worked with our partner Alaska Airlines to help passengers resume their travels to San Diego and apologize for any inconvenience to our passengers.”

Second dramatic emergency landing at Manchester Airport as flight to Las Palmas is aborted (Apr 15)
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news...
The Boeing 757-200 had aborted a flight to Las Palmas and was met by airport fire engines at the end of the runway
A holiday jet carried out an emergency landing at Manchester Airport becoming the second plane to do so in just five hours.
An eyewitness claimed to have seen the Thomson Airways flight coming in ‘way too fast’ and using the entire length of runway two to come to a halt.
The Boeing 757-200 had aborted a flight to Las Palmas and was met by airport fire engines at the end of the runway.
Officials checked over the aircraft before it returned to a terminal building safely.
Plane-spotter Jordan Harris, 16, from Mossley, said: “We heard there was a priority landing coming in. We could see it coming in and it was wobbling all over the place.
It was coming in way too fast. We could see the flaps were up and it was really unstable. It touched down and there was a big plume of smoke and you could smell the burning rubber. The next thing the fire engines were chasing it down the runway.
It stopped right at the end and the fire crews checked it over and inspected the aircraft for maybe five or ten minutes. There may have been a problem with the hydraulics.”
The captain of the Thomson Airways flight TOM6606 had aborted a planned trip to Las Palmas moments after taking off from Bristol Airport and then headed north to Manchester - where the airline has a significant operation and carried out an emergency landing.
The landing just after 4pm came just five hours after another emergency landing at Manchester when a Thomas Cook Airlines jet aborted a trip to Las Vegas when it reached the Irish Sea due to a ‘suspected technical fault’. It also returned safely.
Following the later incident, a spokeswoman for Manchester Airport confirmed the Thomson Airways jet had landed safely but was unable to give further details.
The jet had been due to depart from Bristol Airport at 12.55pm but was delayed and eventually left at 2.50pm.
It then circled briefly before heading north to Manchester.
A Thomson Airways spokesperson said: "We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to customers travelling on flight TOM6606 to Gran Canaria.
Due to a technical issue and as a precautionary measure, the pilot diverted to the nearest airport. Customers are currently receiving assistance at Manchester airport and are due to depart on an alternative flight at 19:00
We would like to reassure customers that incidences such as this are rare."

A flare off of gas at the Oaonui Production Station after an emergency shutdown caused by electrical issues during a thunderstorm caused a panic in Coastal Taranaki on Easter Sunday (Apr 16).
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/91664044/Lessons-learnt-from-sudden...
The company operating the Taranaki gas production station said it would learn from the incident which sent a large fireball into the sky on Sunday night alarming nearby residents.
A huge flare was seen by residents after a lightning strike during a thunder storm caused the plant to be shut down and the gas flows de-pressurised as emergency procedures were put into practice.
One person said they were forced to leave their house.
A Shell Todd Oil Services (Stos) spokeswoman said there was no damage to the plant after the strike at 7pm on Sunday night.
The gas production facility was shut down until the following morning when the station was re-started, she said.
Nearby residents were notified by text alert messaging of the flare up, she said.
For the past four years the text alert system goes to neighbours and key community members and had worked effectively as a communications tool, she said.
"(On Sunday) the text took a little longer than normal to send as our staff were focussed on making sure the site was safe.
"We have systems in place which enable immediate communication with our close neighbours and other community groups. "These systems were used on Sunday evening.'
Stos would always look to improving the way we can alert residents more effectively, she said. "We learn from every incident."
All safety systems, including the depressurisation system, are tested annually, and incidents were rare, she said.
"It is very rare to have an event which would result an unplanned emergency depressurisation of the plant.
"However, we are pleased the system worked as it is intended to."
The system closed off any sources of natural gas to the plant and made the site safe by lowering the pressure at the production station through venting and then flaring, or burning the gas at a safe location at the flare, she said.
Opunake Community Board chairman Craig Dingle said he was not sure if regular community meetings between STOS and residents would help to improve information channels.
"The flare goes all the time and I don't know how you could inform the community any better," he said.
"This was a one-off and nothing to be concerned over."

Mysterious power surges return to BART; agency thinks it has identified the problem
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/04/17/mysterious-power-surges-retur...
Concord, CA. — BART officials now believe metallic dust is to blame for the mysterious power surges that knocked out nearly two dozen train cars in the East Bay Friday (Apr 14), and two similar incidents last year.
BART workers first started noticing problems with the cars at around 10:30 a.m. Friday between the North Concord/Martinez and Pittsburg/Bay Point stations, said spokesman Jim Allison. The agency ultimately switched to shuttle trains at 1:30 p.m., after the power surges had disabled 22 train cars. They used the shuttle train until about 9:30 that night when normal service resumed, he said.
Allison didn’t have an exact figure Monday for the number of disabled trains that have since been repaired, but he said the car shortage is putting the agency in a bit of a bind. BART had 546 train cars in service Monday afternoon, but Allison said it typically aims to have about 595 cars running at any given time.
“It means that some trains are going to be a car short,” he said. “It doesn’t equate to 49 trains (595 minus 546) because built into the 595 standard is a number that can be swapped out for bad cars during the day.”
It’s not the first time that voltage spikes disabled BART cars. The agency dealt with similar problems last year — first in late February near the West Oakland station, and again in mid-March between the North Concord and Pittsburg stations. The mysterious power surges befuddled BART engineers, who spent weeks trying to identify a solution to the issue that appeared and then disappeared with little warning.
As of June last year, BART had spent approximately $2.24 million to diagnose the problem, including nearly $201,000 in consultant fees and more than $771,000 on new testing equipment. Allison said he could not immediately provide an update on the total cost spent diagnosing the problem since then. He also said he would not be able to provide a copy on Monday of the consultants’ final report to BART, but he said BART workers were able to figure out problem and solution on their own.
The power issues afflicting the 22 cars on Friday and last year appear to the be the result of a combination of factors, Allison said. One issue is the buildup of metallic dust on the underside of cars impacted by the electrical surging, he said.
BART generates metallic dust from grinding the rails, a practice the agency uses to reduce the screeching noise of wheels grating against the tracks, Allison said. The dust can conduct electricity, which becomes susceptible to flashes as the cars draw power from the track’s third rail.
BART engineers noticed the dust was thickest near tunnels and inside the Transbay Tube, where rain and wind cannot naturally wash it away. So, in response to the surging issues near the West Oakland station last year, crews started vacuuming the tracks after grinding the rails to remove some of that dust, Allison said.
The agency hadn’t been as concerned with the dust at its above-ground stations, he said, because the dust is removed naturally by rain and wind. But over the course of the last month, BART workers had been diligently grinding the rails four nights a week between the North Concord and Pittsburg stations.
That stretch of tracks is a little different than the rest of the BART system because it’s on a hill, meaning the trains need a little extra juice to make it up and over, Allison said.
“This particular section of track was designed to provide more power to trains than anywhere else on the BART system,” Allison said. “It is now thought that this rail grinding led to a buildup of metallic dust on rail cars.”
To address the issue, Allison said BART is in the process of purchasing magnets, which will sit on train cars that aren’t carrying passengers to pick up the metallic dust left in the rail grinders’ wake, a solution that Allison would be implemented as soon as next month.

EMERGENCY Aero Contractor aircraft filled by smoke during flight in Nigeria
http://www.airlive.net/emergency-aero-contractor-aircraft-filled-by...
Passengers on a flight from Aero Contractor, from Port Harcourt to Lagos in Nigeria on Tuesday, reported panic on the aircraft when the cabin was invaded by smoke.
According to the passenger, 20 minutes after the take-off, smoke appeared onboard and for 35 minutes passengers were praying, screaming and panicking.
The passenger also reported that the pilot asked the 53 passengers on board to calm down, a statement confirmed by the airline.
The woman reporting the incident said that emergency services were waiting for the aircraft when it landed in Lagos. The Aero Contractor, on the other hand, assures that the crew reacted with “professionalism” and continues to investigate the incident, and the first indications are that the smoke has started in the luggage compartment.
After landing safely in Lagos, the device was immediately inspected and the company guarantees that it has not detected any technical problems.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is also investigating the incident. ~

Power Outages Coincide in LA, New York, and San Francisco
Commuters' trips to work got a lot longer.
Aseries of subsequent power outages in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City left commuters stranded and traffic backed up on Friday morning. Although the outages occurred around the same time, there is as of yet no evidence that they were connected by anything more than coincidence.
Power Outage in New York Friday
The first outage occurred at around 7:20 a.m. in New York, when the power went down at the 7th Avenue and 53rd Street subway station, which sent a shockwave of significant delays out from the hub and into the rest of the subway system. By 11:30 a.m. the city’s MTA confirmed that generators were running again in the station, although the New York subways were set to run delayed into the afternoon.
The MTA and Con Ed are still working to determine the cause of the outage.
Power Outage in Los Angeles Friday
Later in the morning, power outages were reported in Los Angeles International Airport, as well as in several other areas around the city.
While the outage was an inconvenience, it does not appear to be as widespread as it’s San Francisco counterpart.
Power Outage in San Francisco Friday
By far the largest outage of the morning happened in San Francisco, where, as of 1 p.m., it appears that the majority of the city is out of commission.
The massive outage is closing BART stations, shutting down traffic signals, and affecting office buildings. Residents and workers in the area are calling it “totally surreal.”

Three Power pole fires leave over 100 Casper residents, businesses without power
April 22, 2017
Over 100 Casper residents and businesses were left without power Friday afternoon after three power poles caught reportedly caught fire.
Paul Murphy, spokesman for Rocky Mountain Power, described all three incidents as "pole fires."
Murphy says one fire in the area of Jim Bridger and CY Avenue left 10 customers without power, another on Poplar left 128 without power and one more damaged pole on Durbin left one person in the dark.
Repair crews are either on the scene or en route to each location. No injuries have been reported as a direct result of any outage.
Sgt. Zack Winter of the Casper Police Department says the outage near the Loaf N Jug at CY Avenue and Jim Bridger Avenue was reported at roughly 3 p.m. as both a 'possible lightning strike' and a 'shots fired' call.
Casper residents took to social media, saying they heard a loud bang before power went out.
There was no evidence of a lightning strike, Winter said, but it was clear that the transformer had blown up. The top of the pole could be seen dangling by the remaining power lines.
"The power line was actually down, so we ensure the public stays away from the power line until the company comes out," Winter said.
That power line has been removed from the ground, Winter added.
Murphy says the weather likely played a role in each outage.
"Whenever you have moisture, that can cause an electricity line to arc. When it arcs, the pole catches fire and we send crews to replace that pole."
"Unfortunately, it's pretty common," Murphy added.

Ferry smashes into a port wall on Gran Canaria leaving five people injured after a power cut lasting just two minutes causes engine failure
By Gerard Couzens for MailOnline
PUBLISHED: 04:18 EDT, 22 April 2017 | UPDATED: 15:57 EDT, 22 April 2017
A ferry crash that injured five people was caused by a power cut that prompted the engine to fail, it is believed.
The boat crashed into a pier on the holiday island of Gran Canaria after the voltage dropped for just two minutes, according to operating company Naviera Armas.
The company insists the outage would not have been a problem had the ferry been sailing on the open sea where there were no obstacles.
Video footage showed the ship - which was heading towards the neighbouring island of Tenerife with 140 passengers, 30 crew members and dozens of vehicles on board - adrift and at the mercy of the sea before it hit the concrete wall at the entrance to Luz Port in the Gran Canaria capital Las Palmas.
Five people have been taken to hospital after a ferry crashed off Gran Canaria. The car ferry smashed into a port wall in Las Palmas after an engine failure while five more were treated on scene
Five people were taken to hospital including one man who suffered a broken collarbone after falling to the ground during the collision, and another five received medical attention at the scene.
Most of those affected, who included a pregnant woman, suffered panic attacks. None were seriously injured.
It is thought some British holidaymakers were on board the vessel at the time, although the exact number is not known.
The incident, involving a car ferry called the Volcan de Tamasite which regularly covers the two-and-a-half-long route between the two islands, happened just before 8.30 on Friday.
The ferry lost power as it was leaving port and crew attempts to stop the collision by getting the engines restarted and throwing down anchors failed.
The damaged port wall came down on two vehicles belonging to oil firm Onyx which were refuelling a nearby ship, causing an oil spill which last night/on Friday night led to an environmental emergency being declared.
Up to 200,000 litres of fuel was initially feared to have spilled, although port authority sources said they believed the situation could be brought under control without major environmental consequences because of sea currents.
Coastguards vessels were sent to inspect the scene on Friday night.
A police investigation was underway last night in conjunction with a separate investigation by the ferry's owner Naviera Armas.
