Altering Earthquakes:

ZetaTalk Aug 7, 2010

As of late, I have observed that USGS and EMSC are a bit lax on their reports of earthquakes. Sometimes not seeing anything reported for hours from the last update, or seeing periods of 90-200 minutes with no earthquakes in between. My question is, are they leaving swarms of earthquakes out of their reports, or there are actually periods of no earthquakes?

SOZT:   Greater than 90% of the earthquake activity is being altered by the USGS at present, which is under orders to prevent any clue being given to the public about the Earth changes caused by the presence of Planet X. Over a decade ago, the approach was to de-sensitize the live seismographs periodically, so the displays do not turn black worldwide, and to ignore the twice-a-day patterns showing up on these seismographs. Then any quakes that could be dropped were dropped. This was obvious to some who were watching the database manipulation. Quakes in the list would suddenly disappear. This was particularly the case where a quake happened in a remote location, or out in the ocean. Dumbing down the magnitude quickly followed, but in order to ensure the public did not notice, the USGS took control of all websites reporting quake statistics. At times, this control breaks, and discrepancies are reported to the public. Some countries rebel. Quake swarms are another source of control, as they pepper the databases with many quakes and skew the statistics, and thus are pulled from the database. Else the question is raised, why so many?   EOZT

ZetaTalk Jun 18, 2011

Will the USGS internet system be a reliable warning system for the European tsunami by registering on the net the New Madrid earthquake on the exact time it occurs?

SOZT:   It will not be a lack of information from the USGS that will be the point of confusion during the earthquakes leading up to the New Madrid adjustment, it will be knowing which quake is the big one vs the many minor quakes preceding it. The USGS downgrades almost all earthquakes, to prevent meaningful statistics from being generated from their databases. They also exclude quakes whenever they can, but this is unlikely to happen in the New Madrid area as it is in the center of a populated land mass. Thus you will have magnitude 6 quakes that will be called a 5.2, magnitude 7 quakes called a 6.1, and when a magnitude 8 or greater quake occurs, it will be called a 6.9.

We would advise that rather than watching the USGS quake statistics, that you watch the Earth changes. The adjustment that will incite the European tsunami will involve bridges on the Mississippi breaking, and being impassable. The land to the west of the Mississippi will drop so that the Mississippi will become 50 miles wide in the state of Mississippi. Watch for this. The New Madrid adjustment will be several large quakes of magnitude 8-9, though will be listed as a lesser magnitude. As the N American continent continues to unzip up to and along the Seaway, the quakes will be less than a magnitude 8 but very destructive to Cleveland and Toledo and Buffalo and the inland locks along the Seaway. Thus it is not what the USGS says that should be watched, but the condition of the bridges on the Mississippi, the impact on the cities along the Seaway, and whether the inland locks are reported as inoperable.   EOZT

Deadly Tanzania Quake Kills 13, Hospitals Overwhelmed with Injured (Sep 10)

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake has killed at least 13 people and injured 203 in northern Tanzania, the authorities say.

The quake struck close to the border with Uganda and Rwanda near Lake Victoria.

Images posted on social media showed significant damage to buildings in Bukoba, a city of more than 70,000 people where most casualties were reported.

Tremors were felt as far away as western Kenya.

"This incident has caused a lot of damage," Deodatus Kinawila, the district commissioner of Bukoba, told the BBC.

"As we speak now, the number of injuries stands at 192 and 11 dead. Because we are still collecting the information it's likely to go up. Even the number of injuries is likely to go up."

Rescue workers have told the BBC that local hospitals are full and cannot cope with the number of injured. Buildings have collapsed and people are still trapped underneath the rubble.

Tanzanian Premier Kassim Majaliwa headed to the worst-hit city, Bukoba, to attend a ceremony at its stadium.

“This tragic event is unprecedented,” he told mourners. “We’ve never known this in our country. The government is with you. It will not abandon you.”

President John Magufuli, who is from the region, said he was “deeply saddened.”

A group of 15 boys at a secondary boarding school in Bukoba district are believed to be among the 17 dead and 253 injured, according to Salum Kijuu, governor of Kagera province, where Bukoba is located.

More than 800 buildings have been destroyed, including 44 public buildings, Kijuu told the French news agency AFP.

The quake also caused the collapse of homes across the border in Uganda, in the region near Lake Victoria.

In the Ugandan village of Minziro, residents described terrifying scenes of rocks crashing down nearby hillsides.

Earth tremors were reported over Twitter in western Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi.

“I am sure the government can’t reconstruct our houses, but in the meantime it can aid us with construction materials for tents,” victim Masembe Remegio told AFP.

The US Geological Survey says the quake struck at a depth of 10km (six miles) at 15:27 local time (12:27 GMT).

East Africa's Great Rift Valley runs along a geological fault line but major earthquakes there are rare.

A magnitude six quake struck the Tanzanian town of Arusha, east of Bukoba, in July 2007.

Earthquake, the expert: "Buildings destroyed by a" new "phenomenon, you have to redo all the calculations or houses continue to fall" [GALLERY]

    https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=it&tl=en&js=y&...

"No one expected to amateur happen what happened. We have seen a new phenomenon. " So the geologist Antonio Moretti, specializing in seismology and in these days engaged in Amatrice own to study the event and in particular the reaction of the buildings to the earthquake, introduces one of the most discussed topics these days. After the earthquake that hit central Italy, bringing death and destruction in the night, the question that has us most places is: it was possible to do something to prevent it?

As Moretti says to MeteoWeb, the material has undergone a new phenomenon, or rather, that had never been observed before. It is resulted, in essence, as a liquefiable fluid (means for liquefying the loss of inner cohesion of the grains of the material, pebbles, brick, sands). "We need to study this phenomenon yet, geologists and engineers must learn seismology. You have to redo all the calculations, you have to learn a new job, "said the expert

    Quake Hunter Australia
    3 hrs ·

Hey guys. Had reports of a shake near Gladstone in Queensland.
We can not find any data to suggest a quake occurred.

    http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/queenslanders-reporti...

Queenslanders reporting seeing bright lights in sky followed by tremor

SEPTEMBER 26 2016UNDREDS of Queenslanders have reported seeing “a flash of light” in the sky, following by a “tremor”.

Police received multiple calls from residents in the Gladstone area reporting their houses shaking in what was initially believed to be an earthquake.

But Geoscience Australia has since officially ruled out an earthquake.

There were reports as far south as the Sunshine Coast, with one Nambour man saying he heard a loud noise and a flash of light just before 8.30pm

Lanky Jones said the light was very bright and it appeared as though an object was burning up in the sky.

“It sounded a lot like a sonic boom, which would make sense if something was travelling too fast into the atmosphere,” he said.

“I don’t know what what it was, whether a meteorite or piece of space junk, I didn’t feel the tremor but the sound suggests something came down to earth.

“It’s definitely not something you see every day.”

The California Office of Emergency Services has issued an earthquake advisory for Southern California.

Earthquake advisory for parts of Southern Califonia
    Increased probability of moderate earthquake

The California Office of Emergency Services has issued an earthquake advisory for Southern California. Alerting several counties that the probability of a major earthquake is more likely this week.

The earthquake advisory is in effect for the following counties: Ventura, San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, Los Angeles, Kern and Imperial.

The advisory was issued following a series of small magnitude earthquakes near Bombay Beach, Salton Sea.

“The scientist rated that there was an increased probability of up to 1% so a slight increase. Really at the end of the day it is a great reminder to us that we live in earthquake country and that earthquakes can strike, suddenly, violently and with no warning so everyones best bet is to be prepared prior to,” said Kevin McGowan with the Ventura County Office of Emergency Services.

While the Operation of Emergency Services prepares there are also a few things you can do as well.

“Drop, cover, and hold when an earthquake occurs. Prior to, have a disaster kit. Definitely an important thing 3-days at a minimum worth of water and food, extra clothing is important. If you have prescription medicine, definitely have prescription medicine on hand,” said McGowan. CONTINUE...

Homes damaged, power cut after strong quake rattles parts of western Honshu

A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 shook parts of western Honshu early Friday afternoon, damaging homes and roads and cutting power to almost 40,000 households.

The Meteorological Agency said the earthquake occurred at 2:07 p.m. in central Tottori Prefecture, about 700 km west of Tokyo, at a depth of 10 km. It was followed by a weaker aftershock about 30 minutes later.

The agency said there was no danger of a tsunami from the inland temblor.

Two houses collapsed in the town of Hokuei, Tottori Prefecture, according to the local fire department. Roads were cracked and roof tiles laid strewn in the town.

In Kurayoshi in the prefecture, ATMs at some local banks temporarily went offline due to a power outage.

All up, the blackout affected nearly 40,000 households in Tottori Prefecture, according to Chugoku Electric Power Co.

Okayama City Fire Department said a woman was taken to hospital after she fell and injured herself.

West Japan Railway Co. temporarily suspended all services on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line between Shin-Osaka and Hakata stations.

Within the central and eastern United States, the number of earthquakes has increased dramatically over the past few years. Between the years 1973–2008, there was an average of 21 earthquakes of magnitude three and larger in the central and eastern United States. This rate jumped to an average of 99 M3+ earthquakes per year in 2009–2013, and the rate continues to rise. In 2014, alone, there were 659 M3 and larger earthquakes. Most of these earthquakes are in the magnitude 3–4 range, large enough to have been felt by many people, yet small enough to rarely cause damage. There were reports of damage from some of the larger events, including the M5.6 Prague, Oklahoma earthquake and the M5.3 Trinidad, Colorado earthquake.

Cumulative number of earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.0 or larger in the central and eastern United States, 1970–2016. The long-term rate of approximately 29 earthquakes per year increased sharply starting around 2009. Source: earthquake.usgs.gov

Italy Quake Survivors Head for the Coast (Oct 28)

There was no relief for residents in Italy's quake-center Friday, where survivors with their nerves frayed by hundreds of aftershocks were packing up their few belongings and moving to the Adriatic coast.

Following two powerful 6.1 and 5.5 magnitude quakes Wednesday which left almost 5,000 people homeless, Italy's national geophysics institute (INGV) has recorded almost 700 tremors, with experts saying they could go on for weeks or months.

Italy's civil protection agency has offered financial support to those whose houses were damaged, allowing them to relocate on their own, take a room in designated residences nearby, or move to hotels on the coast some 80 kilometers (50 miles) away.

Many "have chosen the latter, using their own vehicles or buses made available to them by civil protection," the agency said.

In the town of Ussita, one of the areas most affected by the quakes, some 260 people took refuge in the local campsite, moving into the small wooden bungalows on site.

Lara Manzoni, who works at a frozen pizza company the premises of which were damaged in the quake, has come to help out at the campsite bar instead.

"I sent my children to my mother in Bergamo (in northern Italy) to keep them safe, but I could not see myself leaving all these people in trouble," she said.

Some in the area had invested in motor-homes following the deadly August 24 quake so they would have somewhere mobile to live if fresh tremors hit, she said.

    ZetaTalk Chat Q&A for June 2, 2012:
There is a plate border running down the center of Italy, as it straddles more than one plate - the Eurasian Plate and a platelet called the Adriatic Plate which lies under the Adriatic Sea. The Adriatic Plate is actually an extension of the African Plate, pushing up like a finger between Italy and the Balkans, just as the Sunda Plate in Indonesia is actually an extension of the great Eurasian Plate, lobbing down from the Eurasian Plate like a tongue. Platelets have borders, which are sometimes called fault lines, but overall act as one with the plate they are attached to, as the underlying rock is a firm layer which will not sever, though can bend. The Adriatic finger thus moves whenever the African Plate moves, and the 7 of 10 African roll has set this in motion.

The Adriatic Sea is surrounded by motion, not just from the African Plate which is dropping and shifting eastward during the 7 of 10 plate movements, as we have explained. Europe has a large swath in the stretch zone above the Adriatic. And as the African roll progresses, the Arabian Plate will likewise move its heel back into the void of the expanding Red Sea, pushing the tip of the boot eastward through the oil fields of Iraq. This motion in the Arabian Plate will allow the stretch zone east of the Adriatic Sea more room to adjust. All of this translates into plate border movement up through the center of Italy.

What does this mean for Italy, which is already experiencing unending quake swarms and increased devastation from the repeated hammering of larger quakes. We hinted in May of 2010 that the 8 of 10 scenarios would include plate movement that seemed almost continuous, for some areas.  This warning was repeated in September of 2010 and in November of 2010 we hinted that something devastating was in store for Italy during the 8 of 10 scenarios. Italy will not find peace during the 7 of 10 plate movements, nor afterwards, because the rock finger that lies under the Adriatic Sea will move during the Earth wobble on a daily basis. The land on either side of the Adriatic Sea will be alternately compressed and then pulled apart, a continuous hell for those living on these lands.

Residents of central Italy want to know when the aftershocks will end, with more than 1,100 tremors recorded since a weekend earthquake and officials assessing the damage already inflicted.
    http://www.newsmedialive.com/italy-rocked-hundreds-aftershocks-buil...

The entire region is struggling to cope after a 6.5-magnitude temblor – the strongest earthquake to hit the country since 1980 – struck Sunday, claiming no lives but wreaking massive damage at its epicentre, near the Umbrian town of Norcia.

A powerful aftershock early Tuesday had a magnitude of 4.8 according to Italian seismic institute INGV. It was one of the almost 20 recent aftershocks which have measured over 4 on the Richter scale.

“It’s hell, and it never stops,” said Mayor Marco Rinaldi, whose town, Ussita, was razed by Sunday’s earthquake. He said the ongoing seismic activity has caused further buildings already damaged by the quakes to collapse.

Major structural damage was also reported in the area of Castelsantangelo sul Nera.

“Everything is collapsing here,” Mayor Mauro Falcucci said. “Anything that hasn’t collapsed is unstable. The town looks as if it has been flattened.”

Prime Minister Matteo Renzi visited the site Tuesday, promising that the government would do everything in its power to rebuild.

“There is no magic wand, but we’ll do it somehow, even if it takes a lot of time,” he said.

No deaths have been reported in the most recent quakes, but residents’ nerves have been tested after enduring a magnitude-6 earthquake in August. That disaster caused 298 deaths in Amatrice, Accumoli and Arquata del Tronto, about 55 kilometres south-west of Norcia.

Earlier in the day, Renzi promised swift aid to the tens of thousands of people left homeless. “We will provide whatever is needed for the earthquake,” he pledged after a Monday cabinet meeting.

An estimated 22,000 people are currently registered in emergency shelters. However, it is estimated that the number of homeless is significantly higher.

While providing shelter and screening homes for habitability, authorities are also faced with the delicate task of salvaging historic monuments.

In Norcia, only the facade of the iconic 14th century Basilica of St Benedict – patron saint of Europe and founder of the eponymous monastic order – was left standing. Italian authorities insisted it would be fully rebuilt.

Damage was also reported in Rome, which lies 110 kilometres south-west of Norcia. Three churches in the historical centre were closed for safety reasons, as was the Mazzini bridge over the Tiber, as cracks appeared on its structure.

Seismologists say the quake’s effects could be felt over a range of 130 square kilometres. In one spot, near the village of Castelluccio, spots could be seen where the ground shifted 70 centimetres.

Earthquake France, here is the area of Provence seismicity

    https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=it&tl=en&js=y&...

The Haute-Provence, in France, has been hit in the past by earthquakes also important. Also affected by the strong earthquakes that occur in Northern Italy

The region of Provence, in southern France, is affected by yesterday afternoon by a series of earthquakes that have caused apprehension among the population, even if there are no damages to people or things. The first earthquake was recorded at 15:35 yesterday and had local magnitude 3.9.

Overnight were recorded other earthquakes, the strongest with a magnitude of 4.1, at 3:43 of the night. The epicenter 17 km from the Provençal town of Seyne -sur-Mer, while the hypocenter just 2 km deep (very shallow )

The earthquake was felt distinctly by the population, and the intensity has reached the fourth degree of the scale MCS according to the testimonies of the population.

France does not have a high seismicity, but the affected area by this earthquake, the Haute Provence, is located in an area very close to the Alps.

    https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=fr&tl=en&js=y&...

The earth (yet) trembled in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. Two earthquakes were detected in the Digne region. Both tremors were felt in the Alpes-Maritimes by the central office of the French Seismological.

These two new earthquake occurred at 3:45 then 3:48. The first, with a magnitude of 3.6 was followed by a strong aftershock of 4.1, which was felt to Cannet. Both épicenttres of these shocks are very close, north of Digne (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).

The earth had trembled late Thursday afternoon in this area. Magnitude 3.9, the quake was also felt on the French Riviera as the b central ureau French Seismological. These jerks have no damage.

"Seismic activity is intense in our region with first, the reactivation of the seismic crisis in the western Piedmont. Then there is a seismic swarm between Tinée and Vésubie in the Alpes-Maritimes," says Azur Earthquake .

The current GPS pointers were set in 1994, and apparently Australia is the only place on Earth experiencing this pain. Why Australia? It lies on the Indo-Australian Plate, which is the first plate to move during the Zeta described 7 of 10 plate movements. The Zetas described it as the brake point. The establishment has no real explanation for why Australia is the only country needing this reset. But the Zetas explain it, as usual.

ZetaTalk Description 10/16/2010: The 7 of 10 scenarios describe plate movements, and for this to occur something has to release the deadlock, the current stalemate where the plates are locked against each other. The current lock, as we have so often stated, is the Indo-Australian Plate which is being driven under the Himalayans. This is no small lock, as the height of the Himalayans attests. Nevertheless, the activity in this region shows this likely to be the first of the 7 of 10 scenarios to manifest. Bangladesh is sinking and the Coral Sea is rising, showing the overall tipping of the Indo-Australian Plate. Now Pakistan is sinking and not draining its floods as it should, while Jakarta on the tongue of Indonesia is also sinking rapidly, showing that the tilt that will allow Indonesia to sink has already started.

GPS station at Cape Campbell moved two metres north following today's 7.8 quake.

The Nevada Geodetic Laboratory was able to access data from 118 continuously recording GPS stations on the island and estimate coseismic displacements within hours after the event using ultra-rapid orbits from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. A figure showing a sample of the offsets is given below. The maximum displacements we found with GPS are at station CMBL near Clifford Bay, 1.3 meters east, 2.3 meters north, and 0.9 meters upward.

While the displacements are very large, they continue to grow as we get more data hour by hour. This likely indicates that a slow but active afterslip on the fault plane, and/or possibly other physical relaxation mechanisms, continue to progress. These observations, along with a continuing sequence of aftershocks, indicates that the crust is still adjusting and evolving as part of this earthquake deformation event. Only GPS stations north of the rupture were strongly affected, which supports seismological evidence that the earthquake ruptured the crust north of the epicenter, where most of the ground shaking occurred.

New Zealand Quake: 2 Separate Events or Crust Rupture? (Nov 14)

Sunday's deadly 7.8 quake north of Christchurch, the now-named Kaikoura Earthquake, has already seen over 300 aftershocks, some as great as 6.5.

GeoNet reports: "It looks like we've got two separate but related quakes going on. Our reports indicate that the combination of these two quakes lasted two minutes, with the most severe shaking at around 50 seconds."

Caroline Little, a spokeswoman for GeoNet, told Fairfax Media that the agency was "pretty confident" the initial earthquake was two seismic events about 50 kilometres apart.

"It's quite a complex quake," Ms Little said. "It looks like two events happening almost simultaneously," since there are aftershocks occurring in two locations.

Geoscience Australia said that the seismic event released more than 50 times the amount of energy than the 2011 Christchurch earthquake that killed 185 people.

It is the largest earthquake recorded in New Zealand since 2009.

Dan Jaksa is the senior duty seismologist for Geoscience Australia. He said it was unlikely there were two separate quakes but that, as the earth's crust ripped, seismologists can record movement at different locations.

"What is occurring is a rip through the earth's crust," he said. "From our measurements it seems this one started onshore about 15 kilometres underground and ruptured the crust from west to east in a slightly north-easterly direction."

GeoNet measured the quake at a magnitude of 7.5, although the United States Geological Survey said it was of a 7.8 magnitude and Geoscience Australia said the event was of a 7.9 magnitude.
