Altering Earthquakes:
As of late, I have observed that USGS and EMSC are a bit lax on their reports of earthquakes. Sometimes not seeing anything reported for hours from the last update, or seeing periods of 90-200 minutes with no earthquakes in between. My question is, are they leaving swarms of earthquakes out of their reports, or there are actually periods of no earthquakes?
SOZT: Greater than 90% of the earthquake activity is being altered by the USGS at present, which is under orders to prevent any clue being given to the public about the Earth changes caused by the presence of Planet X. Over a decade ago, the approach was to de-sensitize the live seismographs periodically, so the displays do not turn black worldwide, and to ignore the twice-a-day patterns showing up on these seismographs. Then any quakes that could be dropped were dropped. This was obvious to some who were watching the database manipulation. Quakes in the list would suddenly disappear. This was particularly the case where a quake happened in a remote location, or out in the ocean. Dumbing down the magnitude quickly followed, but in order to ensure the public did not notice, the USGS took control of all websites reporting quake statistics. At times, this control breaks, and discrepancies are reported to the public. Some countries rebel. Quake swarms are another source of control, as they pepper the databases with many quakes and skew the statistics, and thus are pulled from the database. Else the question is raised, why so many? EOZT
Will the USGS internet system be a reliable warning system for the European tsunami by registering on the net the New Madrid earthquake on the exact time it occurs?
SOZT: It will not be a lack of information from the USGS that will be the point of confusion during the earthquakes leading up to the New Madrid adjustment, it will be knowing which quake is the big one vs the many minor quakes preceding it. The USGS downgrades almost all earthquakes, to prevent meaningful statistics from being generated from their databases. They also exclude quakes whenever they can, but this is unlikely to happen in the New Madrid area as it is in the center of a populated land mass. Thus you will have magnitude 6 quakes that will be called a 5.2, magnitude 7 quakes called a 6.1, and when a magnitude 8 or greater quake occurs, it will be called a 6.9.
We would advise that rather than watching the USGS quake statistics, that you watch the Earth changes. The adjustment that will incite the European tsunami will involve bridges on the Mississippi breaking, and being impassable. The land to the west of the Mississippi will drop so that the Mississippi will become 50 miles wide in the state of Mississippi. Watch for this. The New Madrid adjustment will be several large quakes of magnitude 8-9, though will be listed as a lesser magnitude. As the N American continent continues to unzip up to and along the Seaway, the quakes will be less than a magnitude 8 but very destructive to Cleveland and Toledo and Buffalo and the inland locks along the Seaway. Thus it is not what the USGS says that should be watched, but the condition of the bridges on the Mississippi, the impact on the cities along the Seaway, and whether the inland locks are reported as inoperable. EOZT

The Leap Year Earthquake and our on-going science response - GEONET
http://info.geonet.org.nz/display/quake/2016/02/29/The+Leap+Year+Ea...
29 FEBRUARY 2016. This morning was another rude reminder that the Canterbury Earthquake Sequence is still on-going in Christchurch. This earthquake was in a different part of Christchurch than the Valentine’s Day earthquake and was strongly felt by several thousand residents who filled in Felt Reports.
These earthquakes can be demoralising and unsettling for some people. You are perfectly normal if you find these are events unsettling
About the Leap Year Earthquake
The earthquake woke Christchurch residents up at 3:32 a.m. this morning. Even though it was “only” a M4.3, it was very shallow at five kilometres deep, and directly under the Christchurch suburb of Cashmere

Indonesia issues tsunami warning after 7.9 quake strikes off Sumatra
The shallow quake, which hit southwest of the island of Sumatra on Wednesday, had a depth of 10 kilometers (six miles).
The epicenter was located 808 kilometers (502 miles) southwest of Padang.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. However, shallower earthquakes are more likely to cause damage.
The USGS originally categorized the quake as a magnitude 8.2, and later an 8.1, before lowering it to a 7.9.
Indonesia has issued a tsunami warning for West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh, according to the National Meteorological Agency.
A tsunami watch has also been issued for parts of Western Australia, according to the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre.
The tremors could be felt in parts of Singapore, a witness told AFP, noting that the ground shook for about 15 seconds.
"I could feel my bed moving and I saw the wind chimes swaying even though my windows were shut. I suspected it's tremor from a quake in a neighboring country because this was what happened some years back during the Sumatra earthquake," W. Ong, who lives in Sengkang, told the agency.
In 2004, a 9.1 magnitude earthquake struck 160 kilometers (99 miles) off the western coast of northern Sumatra, resulting in a tsunami. A total of 230,000 people were killed across a dozen countries, including Thailand.
Indonesia straddles the so-called 'Pacific Ring of Fire,' a highly seismically active zone where neighboring tectonic plates violently clash, resulting in a large number of earthquakes and volcanoes.

The earthquake at was centred near the Oxfordshire-Buckinghamshire border
An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.3 has been recorded in Oxfordshire, the British Geological Survey (BGS) has confirmed.
Residents in Chinnor and Thame as well as Princes Risborough, Aylesbury and Bledlow in Buckinghamshire reported feeling shaking late on Sunday.
The BGS said the earthquake, centred on the village of Emmington, happened at 23:11 GMT.
Seismologist Glen Ford said: "The fact it was noticed makes it a bit special."
A caller to BBC Radio Oxford, who lives in Chinnor, said: "The whole place shook - it was more than a wind and rattled the windows."
People also took to social media to post comments after experiencing the late-night movement.
Anna Edwards tweeted: "Earthquake or explosion? Something moved n S Oxon. Felt in Chinnor & Thame."
Chris White tweeted: "Bucks earth quake? We felt it, house shook, low noise!"
Emily Smith also posted: "Magnitude 2.3 earthquake in Bucks last night, that explains the house shaking then."
Mr Ford said: "Old geological faults still get activated by the stresses which are put on them from the major fault lines we have, and every now and again these pressures are released with a small earthquake."
He added: "It was a very small earthquake, but in UK terms it was significant as it was actually felt by the general public - 90% of earthquakes go completely unnoticed."

Kumamoto garden’s spring-fed pond dries up
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2016/05/02/national/quake-hit-kuma...
These photos from the city of Kumamoto show Suizenji Jojuen park's pond with spring water (above) in November 2012. The lower photo was taken Sunday. | IZUMI SHRINE, KYODO
KUMAMOTO – A traditional garden in Kumamoto landscaped around a spring-fed pond has mostly dried up since earthquakes started rocking Kyushu in April.
The park, Suizenji Jojuen, has been closed since April 16, when the first quake that struck Kumamoto caused a large stone gateway to collapse
Although Kumamoto Prefecture is famous for having abundant groundwater, about 70 percent of the park’s 10,000-sq.-meter pond has dried up. And the parts that still have water are about 30 cm lower than before.
“Even though we have added water drawn from a well to the pond, most of it is gone. This is the first time we have experienced this,” said Toru Iwata, a 68-year-old priest at Izumi Shrine, which manages the park. Iwata said the pond bed seems to have absorbed the water and it’s unclear why the spring is no longer flowing.

What lies below: swarm of earthquakes detected beneath Mount St Helens
Scientists suggest volcano is restoring its stores of magma as rate of earthquakes has been ‘steadily increasing’ and reaching nearly 40 located per week
from the Guardian
A swarm of more than 130 earthquakes has been detected beneath Mount St Helens over the last eight weeks, according to the US Geological Survey.
Since March, the rate of such earthquakes under the Washington state volcano has been “steadily increasing”, the USGS reported. At its peak, nearly 40 earthquakes have been located per week.
Most of the quakes have occurred about one to four miles beneath the active volcano, and most have been extremely weak at magnitudes of 0.5 or less, the largest a 1.3-level quake.
The USGS said there had been many more earthquakes that have been too small to be felt at the surface or precisely located. A 0.7-level quake “would not be felt if you were standing on the surface above it”, the seismologists wrote.
The quakes do not mean the volcano is any more likely to erupt in the near future, the USGS said, describing the earthquakes as common, “volcano-tectonic in nature [and] indicative of a slip on a small fault”.
They do, though, suggest the volcano is recharging its stores of magma, the scientists said. As the molten rock rises to fill the volcano’s magma chamber, it presses against the colder rock around it, increasing stress. This push and pull creates quakes.
The USGS noted that similar swarms caused minor convulsions beneath Mount St Helens in 2013 and 2014, and that earthquakes swarmed in the 1990s with more energy and at much higher rates.
The seismologists said they had detected “no anomalous gases, increases in ground inflation or shallow seismicity” and “no signs of an imminent eruption”.
“As was observed at Mount St Helens between 1987 [and] 2004, recharge can continue for many years beneath a volcano without an eruption,” they wrote.
Mount St Helens last erupted in 2008, after a surprise reawakening in 2004 and several years of sporadic activity. Swarms of earthquakes before the 2004 eruption averaged between magnitudes of two to four.
On 18 May 1980, it erupted to devastating effect, a column of ash reaching 80,000ft and pyroclastic flows of boiling ash, gas and rock cascading off its slopes. Part of the volcano collapsed, ash fell as far away as New Mexico and 57 people died as a result of the eruption.

The first six months of the year has definitely been interesting. 289 quakes to the end of June 2016 which includes that Magnitude 6.1 in May in the Northern Territory.
Total for the first six months last year was a staggering 494.....
The last month has seen activity increase in southern Western Australia & the largest quake for June was Magnitude 4.5 (downgraded from 4.7) just off the coast of Kangaroo Island, South Australia.

False smartphone alert of huge earthquake triggers panic in Japan
Monday 1 August 2016 13.07 BST
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/aug/01/false-alert-of-huge-e...
‘I prepared to die,’ one person tweeted after erroneous alert said magnitude-9.1 quake had struck
An erroneous alert that a massive earthquake had hit the Tokyo area sent many people in Japan into a brief panic on Monday and disrupted some train services.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency sent the alert just after 5pm, saying a magnitude-9.1 quake had struck. It cancelled it seconds later but that wasn’t fast enough to stop at least one smartphone app passing the warning on.
Users of the popular Yurekuru disaster warning app were soon buzzed with a message reading: “Earthquake! Earthquake!”
But the expected tremor never came and the agency’s alert set off alarmed chatter on Twitter.
“When I saw the Yurekuru app screen, I prepared to die,” read a tweet in Japanese from one user. “Yeah okay this was fake but it scared the hell out of me,” said another in English.
Japan’s Meteorological Agency said it had sent the alert but its cancellation just seconds later had not reached some app operators in time. An agency official said the reason for the withdrawn alert may have been lightning hitting a seismograph, an instrument that monitors quakes.
Some Tokyo train services shut down temporarily following the alert. CONTINUE...

Shallow 5.4-Magnitude Earthquake In Peru Kills at Least 4, Including a U.S. Tourist
https://weather.com/news/news/earthquake-chivey-peru-54-magnitude-s...
A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Chivey, Peru, Sunday night.
At least four are reported dead, including a U.S. tourist.
A shallow magnitude 5.4 earthquake in southern Peru has killed at least four including a U.S. tourist and injured at least 30 more.
According to the Associated Press, adobe homes near the town of Chivey were toppled as the picturesque Colca Valley was hit by the quake at 9:59 p.m. local time Sunday.
The U.S. Geographical Survey said the shallow quake occurred just six miles deep a little more than three miles north-west of Chivey.
The unidentified U.S. man reportedly died at the Eco Inn Valle del Colca in Yanque when part of the hotel's ceiling collapsed on him, Gov. Cipriano Llasa told AP.
"His body is inside the hotel because the highways are blocked and the prosecutor has not arrived," Llasa told the AP by phone.
