Altering Earthquakes:

ZetaTalk Aug 7, 2010

As of late, I have observed that USGS and EMSC are a bit lax on their reports of earthquakes. Sometimes not seeing anything reported for hours from the last update, or seeing periods of 90-200 minutes with no earthquakes in between. My question is, are they leaving swarms of earthquakes out of their reports, or there are actually periods of no earthquakes?

SOZT:   Greater than 90% of the earthquake activity is being altered by the USGS at present, which is under orders to prevent any clue being given to the public about the Earth changes caused by the presence of Planet X. Over a decade ago, the approach was to de-sensitize the live seismographs periodically, so the displays do not turn black worldwide, and to ignore the twice-a-day patterns showing up on these seismographs. Then any quakes that could be dropped were dropped. This was obvious to some who were watching the database manipulation. Quakes in the list would suddenly disappear. This was particularly the case where a quake happened in a remote location, or out in the ocean. Dumbing down the magnitude quickly followed, but in order to ensure the public did not notice, the USGS took control of all websites reporting quake statistics. At times, this control breaks, and discrepancies are reported to the public. Some countries rebel. Quake swarms are another source of control, as they pepper the databases with many quakes and skew the statistics, and thus are pulled from the database. Else the question is raised, why so many?   EOZT

Will the USGS internet system be a reliable warning system for the European tsunami by registering on the net the New Madrid earthquake on the exact time it occurs?

SOZT:   It will not be a lack of information from the USGS that will be the point of confusion during the earthquakes leading up to the New Madrid adjustment, it will be knowing which quake is the big one vs the many minor quakes preceding it. The USGS downgrades almost all earthquakes, to prevent meaningful statistics from being generated from their databases. They also exclude quakes whenever they can, but this is unlikely to happen in the New Madrid area as it is in the center of a populated land mass. Thus you will have magnitude 6 quakes that will be called a 5.2, magnitude 7 quakes called a 6.1, and when a magnitude 8 or greater quake occurs, it will be called a 6.9.

We would advise that rather than watching the USGS quake statistics, that you watch the Earth changes. The adjustment that will incite the European tsunami will involve bridges on the Mississippi breaking, and being impassable. The land to the west of the Mississippi will drop so that the Mississippi will become 50 miles wide in the state of Mississippi. Watch for this. The New Madrid adjustment will be several large quakes of magnitude 8-9, though will be listed as a lesser magnitude. As the N American continent continues to unzip up to and along the Seaway, the quakes will be less than a magnitude 8 but very destructive to Cleveland and Toledo and Buffalo and the inland locks along the Seaway. Thus it is not what the USGS says that should be watched, but the condition of the bridges on the Mississippi, the impact on the cities along the Seaway, and whether the inland locks are reported as inoperable.   EOZT

Strong earthquake felt in northern Chile: Ordered precautionary evacuation
    MARCH 16 2014

The quake had a magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter scale, so a precautionary evacuation of those who are near the coast between Arica and Tocopilla to a lower risk of tsunami was decreed.

SANTIAGO -. A strong earthquake was felt during the afternoon of Sunday in the north of the country, specifically in the regions of Arica and Parinacota and Tarapacá.

As reported by the National Seismological Centre , the quake occurred exactly at 18:16 hours and reached a magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter scale.

The epicenter was located in the Region of Tarapaca and was located 75 kilometers southwest of Pisagua. The phenomenon had a depth of 20.6 kilometers.

Meanwhile, from the National Emergency Office (Onemi) reported in the towns of Arica, Iquique and Alto Hospicio they quake had an intensity of VI on the Mercalli scale.

The national director of the company, Ricardo Toro said the SHOA announced that the situation could lead to a minor tsunami, ie in heavy swells. In response, the precautionary evacuation of the community residing in the coastal areas between the towns of Arica and Tocopilla was decreed.

"There has not been any accident and basic services work completely normal (...). Evacuation is purely precautionary," he added.

So far no damage to people or infrastructure are recorded.

    Precautionary evacuation

According to what stated by SHOA through their website, at first warned of "a likelihood that a minor tsunami following locations between Arica and Tocopilla is generated is included Juan Fernández and Isla San Felix."

This information was repeated past 18:30 by the body as both the Onemi.

Local authorities called all who reside in coastal areas to move to the higher parts of the communes where the quake was felt. If possible avoid walking so jams, vehicular.

In this regard, the director of the Onemi of Arica and Parinacota, Franz Schmauck reiterated to the media that the procedure adopted responds "a preventive measure".

For its part, the Administration of the region they claimed that the quake had a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale, information that has not been confirmed by official bodies.

    String of earthquakes

After the quake occurred at 18:16 hours, aftershocks were felt in the north, movements authorities described as "normal" after a more than 6 degrees on the Richter scale movement.

At 18:26 pm there was a tremor of 5.0 on the same scale, whose epicenter was 132 km west of Alto Hospicio. Then another 4.3 quake was felt in Iquique.

6.7 earthquake strikes off Chile's Pacific coast

CNN) -- A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck off Chile's Pacific coast Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake's epicenter was 60 kilometers (37 miles) west-northwest of Iquique, Chile, and its depth was 20 kilometers (12.4 miles), the USGS said.

There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries, but local emergency officials activated a precautionary tsunami warning along the coast and urged residents to move to higher ground, regional emergency official Juan Basaez told CNN Chile.

Sea level readings in the area indicate a tsunami was generated, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, but there is no widespread destructive tsunami threat.

The center warned of possible destruction on the coast within 200 kilometers (124 miles) from the quake's epicenter.

4.4 earthquake shows much is unknown about L.A. faults

The epicenter is on a fault beneath the Santa Monica Mountains that hasn't seen a quake this size in 80 years. (or ever, since that is when records began)  'Earthquakes happen in places you don't expect,' a Caltech expert says.

“The location is somewhat surprising. It’s within the Santa Monica Mountains. We have not seen seismicity in it in recent times,” said Caltech seismologist Egill Hauksson. “It has been dormant for quite some time.”

They are not as familiar as the freeways, but Southern California's major faults — such as the San Andreas, Newport-Inglewood and San Fernando — have become familiar markers on the local landscape.

But Monday's 4.4 earthquake in Encino is a reminder that the seismic danger extends well beyond those fault lines. The quake, which caused no damage but was the largest in the Los Angeles area in four years, erupted on a little-noticed fault deep under the Santa Monica Mountains.

The temblor surprised seismologists because it was the strongest to hit directly under the Santa Monica Mountains in the 80 years "since we started recording earthquakes in Southern California," Hauksson said. Until now, experts recorded only magnitude 1 to 3 quakes there.

Monday's 6:25 a.m. temblor showed that for all that is understood about quakes, much remains unknown. Southern California's most destructive earthquakes in the last generation — the 5.9 Whittier Narrows in 1987 and the 6.7 Northridge in 1994 — occurred on faults unknown to scientists before the shaking began.

"Clearly, earthquakes happen in places you don't expect," said Thomas Heaton, director of Caltech's Earthquake Engineering Research Laboratory. "The bigger the earthquake, eventually, you really are surprised to find an earthquake on a fault you didn't know about."

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake, which hit at at 6:46 p.m. local time, was centered some 60 miles northwest of Iquique at a depth of 12.5 miles.
It had previously put the magnitude at 8.0 and the depth at 6.2 miles.
Chile's National Emergency Office tweeted Tuesday night that it was asking everyone to evacuate the South American nation's coast.
CNN Chile broadcast video of people in Antofagasta, a port city, walking through the streets as traffic piled up in some places. They appeared to be calm.
A tsunami warning was in effect for Chile, Peru and Ecuador.
A tsunami watch was issued for Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
"Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated. It may have been destructive along coasts near the epicenter and could also be a threat to more distant coasts," the center said in its evaluation.
Tsunami waves of more than 6 feet generated by the earthquake had already washed ashore on the coast of Pisagua, Chile, according to Victor Sardino with the center.
The center said nearly 7-foot waves were reported in Iquique, Chile.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, although an 8.2-magnitude earthquake is capable of causing tremendous damage.
Chile is on the so-called "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines circling the Pacific Basic that is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
About 500 people were killed when a 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Chile on February 27, 2010. That quake triggered a tsunami that toppled buildings, particularly in the Maule region along the coast.
According to researchers, the earthquake was violent enough to move the Chilean city of Concepcion at least 10 feet to the west and Santiago about 11 inches to the west-southwest.
The tsunami threat to Hawaii still was being evaluated Tuesday. The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center was working to determine the level of danger for Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California, as well as Canada's British Columbia.

Strong earthquake rattles much of the Mediterranean: epicenter in Greece [MAPS]

Earthquake felt in the evening in the South of Italy and in particular in the areas of Ionic Sicily, Calabria and Puglia at exactly 22:08 a quake of magnitude 5.6 with its epicenter in southern Greece has been warned to great distances, because a deep hypocenter even 143km. Just the depth of the shock has avoided damage in the area closest to the epicenter, but resulted in a vast extent of the seismic resentment, practically extended to most of the Mediterranean from southern Italy to Turkey, or even to North Africa ( Libya and Egypt). The quake was felt in Istanbul and Malta. Many reports in Italy, from Sicily south / east but also from Puglia center / south and Calabria. Here are some maps:

Tsunami in USA on Thursday, 03 April, 2014 at 14:44 (02:44 PM) UTC.

The magnitude 8.2 earthquake that erupted Tuesday off northern Chile produced a tsunami whose energy caused tiny fluctuations early Wednesday on a tide gauge in La Jolla, says the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Scripps seismologist Gabi Laske said that the tsunami added about two inches to the height of waves at the gauge at 5 a.m. Wednesday, just over 12 hours after the earthquake happened. "In La Jolla, the first "weird" wiggle arrived at about this time," Laske told U-T San Diego. "While we could debate whether San Diego had a tsunami, it was clearly measured at the Santa Monica tide gauge station. Arriving at about 5:30 a.m., the biggest wave came at 7:10 a.m. at 6.3 inches. While I wouldn't stick my head out for the San Diego/La Jolla data, the Santa Monica data are very clear. "The signal at the Santa Barbara station is very concerning. The first wave there also arrived at about 5:30 a.m., the first "big" wave (at 7 inches) at 6:45 a.m. But "big" waves were still recorded at 9:50 a.m. (at 7.5 inches). My guess is that waves bounced off the coast and then joined and added together later on. All these numbers are +/-, so peak-to-trough amplitude is twice that. "The tsunami arrived in Crescent City at about 7:00 a.m. PDT, though the biggest wave didn't come (at a little less than +/- 6.7 inches), until 8:40 a.m., with another group of waves reaching this height at 10:50 a.m. So, this is smaller than in Santa Barbara (which is interesting and disturbing

    Congo's Nyamuragira volcano

An article published today on the news site continuously onevision.com indicates a significant seismic shaking Nyamuragira. The article cites a volcanologist from the Observatory of Goma indicating an eruption "could take place in the coming days."
It turns out that the heat generated data speaks MODVOLC suggest that eruptive activity may have already taken place on the building earlier this month. Signal, low but this has indeed been detected on April 5.
Caution, however: we can not exclude that this signal may have an origin other than volcanic,
although it is located in the summit area of the volcano, which is not inhabited

Earthquake felt throughout the center / south ITALY, fear from Rome to Palermo

    Sunday, April 13, 2014

    http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=it&tl=en&js=y&...

An earthquake was felt throughout central / southern Italy. Hundreds of reports from all the regions of central / south and especially in Rome, Palermo, Naples, Ancona, Cosenza, Latin America and Ascoli Piceno. The quake was also felt in Romagna and Sardinia. In the message page INGV (service, "You Heard The Earthquake") you can count many reports from Italy. We await official data sull'epicentro.

The mystery of the earthquake this morning: 600 INGV reports [MAPS]

This morning, after 09:30, hundreds of reports from all over the central / south Italy who wanted to witness the occurrence of an earthquake: from Romagna and Sardinia, the quake was felt throughout central / south and in particular in Rome, Palermo, Naples, Ancona, Cosenza, Latin America and Ascoli Piceno. In fact, these cities with more alerts. Overall, so far, about 600 have been completed questionnaires in the " You Heard The Earthquake "INGV, where even now continue to get reports. The shock, however, there is no trace. And, contacted the INGV seismic hall, experts explain that shift was not measured any earthquake. After all, even the Etna volcanic tremor (see chart accompanying the article) had a peak just as they do when an earthquake occurs. In the night (map top left) some seismographs had detected a 4.2 magnitude earthquake in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the coast of Naples, just halfway between Rome and Palermo, at great depth. Then, however, was not confirmed by official bodies (INGV in the first place).
It seems impossible at the same time that 600 people have been able to "influence" for various purposes in having experienced an earthquake: Who monitors for years the page "Have you heard the Earthquake" is well aware that this can happen from time to time in each location, but hath never occurred so vast and widespread. It is not inconceivable that there has been a profound shock or whose distant seismic waves were felt also in the Mediterranean area. In the coming hours we will try to get more.

Hundreds of earthquakes strike central Idaho, rattling nerves

    http://news.yahoo.com/hundreds-earthquakes-strike-central-idaho-rat...

Hundreds of low-level and medium-sized earthquakes have struck central Idaho since last month, puzzling geologists who wonder whether the ruptures portend a much larger temblor to come or are merely the rumblings of a seismic fault previously thought to be dormant.

The recent earthquake swarm, beginning on March 24 and climaxed by a 4.9 magnitude tremor on Saturday, has produced no reports of injuries or severe damage but has rattled nerves in a region where Idaho's most powerful known quake, measured at 6.9, killed two children in 1983.

Saturday's earthquake was the strongest recorded in the state since 2005 and was followed on Monday by a magnitude 4.4 event that struck 10 miles north of the small ranching community of Challis, Idaho, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Challis tremor knocked pictures and animal mounts from walls, rattled dishes off tables and was felt by residents in neighboring Montana more than 100 miles from the quake's epicenter, officials said.

The latest seismic surge, including 100 small to moderate quakes on Monday alone, has galvanized government scientists, who planned to install special seismometers in the area as early as Tuesday to more closely track the activity.

The likelihood of a severe earthquake coming on the heels of the recent swarm is low, but much is perplexing about the series of tremors, said Bill Phillips, a geologist with the Idaho Geological Survey at the University of Idaho.

Such earthquake swarms typically are associated with the movement of molten rock below ground, which geologists credited for the recent quake cluster at Yellowstone National Park, or they are linked to an active fault, he said on Tuesday.

"What has many of us scratching our heads is the present-day swarm doesn't appear to be on the big, active fault in the area that ruptured in 1983 and caused the largest earthquake in Idaho," Phillips said.

He was referring to the magnitude 6.9 temblor that struck Mount Borah, Idaho's tallest peak, killing two children in Challis and damaging hundreds of homes and businesses.

Idaho sits at the center of a seismic belt in the intermountain West that runs from northwestern Montana to southern Nevada and contains thousands of faults in the Earth's crust, said Michael Stickney, director of earthquake studies at the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology.

Carl Alexander, disaster coordinator in Challis, said schools have stepped up earthquake drills, and he has requested that emergency responders in Idaho and Utah be available if disaster strikes.
