"The causes of landslides are not a mystery to mankind. Layers of rock and soil such that rain running along a clay or rock layer can create a slippery surface for the weight of the layers above it is a common cause. A rock jumble from previous mountain building, broken or fractured rock easily dislodged. We have stated that the earthquakes man experiences between the periodic passages of Planet X can be considered aftershocks from the last passage, and this is true of landslides also. Mountain building rumples the landscape, so the land is not flat but has steep ravines and hill sides. Older mountain ranges are recognized for their rounded or smoothed appearance, because of frequent landslides distributing the rubble.
"As we approach another passage, another Pole Shift, the pace of landslides has picked up. Why would this be? Plates under pressure will put pressure on regions that contain rumpled hillsides and deep ravines, as these give more readily than strictly flat land, thus act as a weak link. In addition, due to the wobble, the weather has gotten more extreme, with drought and deluge increasing in extremes. Dry ground, suddenly flooded with rainwater needing to seek its level as runoff, will create internal water slides between the rock and soil layers that constitute the rumpled hillsides. Is there an early warning system that mankind could use? The trembles that soil about to slide emits could be detected, yes. These are not earthquakes, and have their own frequency. "

Act of god! Landslide tumbles down Italian mountainside but STOPS yards short of 420-year-old church
A 420-year-old church had a miraculous escape when a landslide stopped just yards away.
In the clip, the landslide approaches the Santuario di Gallivaggio in Valle Spluga in Italy near the Swiss border before suddenly stopping.
The belltower was engulfed in dust after the rocks fell from the cliff face on May 29.
The rocks tumble down the mountain towards the 420-year-old Santuario di Gallivaggio in Valle Spluga, Italy. Although it is engulfed in a cloud of dust, the church was not seriously damaged
Local news website Avvenire reported that the landslide happened after the town experienced 60millimeters of rain in just 24 hours.
Around 7,500 cubic meters of rock fell in the landslide, but remarkably nobody was hurt.
Parish priest Don Andrea Caelli told Avvenire: 'As a believer I say that the provident hand of God accompanied this event which could have ended tragically.'
Roads to the town had been closed for more than a month after forecasters predicted the landslide.
The roads have now reopened and there was no significant damage to the church, which was built on the site where two young girls claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary in 1492.

Kenya: Murang’ Earth movement disaster leaves 300 families in despair.
Jun 10, 2018
Over 300 families have been displaced by landslides and fault lines that have formed across Murang’a county.
Some have been integrated with other families while others are being accommodated in schools.
According to Red Cross, over 300 more families have been affected by rains after their property was destroyed.
Areas most affected are Kangema, Mathioya, Kahuro and Kigumo subcounties where huge chunks of farms were swept away.
Kangema was most affected as large cracks formed across farms and destroyed houses.
An assessment by Red Cross has indicated some houses sunk while others were completely destroyed as the earth moved.
Mount Kenya Red Cross regional manager Gitonga Mugambi has said this has left many families stranded and dependent on well-wishers.
Mugambi said many houses have also been declared unfit for habitation in Gitugi village, Mathioya subcounty, and residents are now being hosted by their neighbours.
“Many of them have been left without a source of livelihood as tea and coffee bushes were swept away,” he said on Thursday.
Some families, Mugambi said, will be forced to find alternative land to build homes.
He urged the national and county governments to help families relocate and obtain land.
Mugambi said other than providing food, the organisation is also providing counselling.
“Some people who were doing very well in life have now been reduced to depending on relief and that has taken a toll on most of them,” he said.
Mugambi expressed concern some families have refused to relocate even though their houses have huge cracks and are falling apart.
He said those refusing to move are putting their lives at risk.
Five people died in separate incidents of landslides in Kahuro and Gitugi areas and scores of others were rescued after being trapped in the mud.
John Kihia, a Kangema resident, narrated how he found his house “hanging” one morning after part of his house came apart.
“My kitchen sunk and my main house developed major cracks, forcing me to move my family to my neighbour’s home,” he said.
Kihia said he now relies on help from his neighbours and other well-wishers.

Jun 12, 2018
Paso towards Pérez Zeledón by La Cangreja will remain closed until Wednesday due to landslide.
The aerial images better illustrate the dimension of the collapse that interrupted the passage towards Pérez Zeledón along the South Interamerican highway.
The passage towards Pérez Zeledón by La Cangreja will remain closed at least until this Wednesday due to a huge landslide, transporters and neighbors suffer the consequences of the closure.
Since the night of Monday the detachment blocked the circulation of vehicles in the place known as La Cangreja, in El Guarco de Cartago.
The fall of material continued during the early morning and Tuesday morning, as recorded by our colleagues Guillermo Bonilla and Manuel Obregón.
Trailers from Limón to the South Zone and vice versa, buses and drivers in general were trapped almost 24 hours.
The residents of La Cangreja also suffer the consequences, some could not go to work and the lessons were suspended in the rural high school La Luchita.
While the area remains unstable and requires the closure of the road, the traffic police recommends using the area of Los Santos and the coastal highway, as alternate routes to travel south.
The Conavi estimates that some 15 thousand cubic meters of material fell, which would amount to some 15 thousand trucks full of rubble.

Costarica: Avalanche of 50,000 m3 buries the operator on property.
Jun 22, 2018
The landslide of the Trigal Group would have been caused by the rains that have fallen on the country for days.
The operator of a backhoe was buried after, at 12:42 p.m. m. of this Thursday, a landslide occurred in the Trigal Group property, in San Miguel de Santo Domingo de Heredia.
The preliminary report of the Fire Department detailed that it is estimated that they moved about 50,000 cubic meters (m³) of material, which dragged the backhoe along with the worker, who has not been identified.
At the time of the accident, a ground movement was made in the upper part of the terrain, reported Bernardo Barboza, in charge of search operations by the fire department.
The stones, the earth and the trees that were moved also buried several containers that were in the part below and some five were dragged several meters.
Héctor Chaves, director of the Fire Department, said that 10 people specialized in rescue were transferred to the site, as well as the Canine Unit.
"The problem is that the terrain is very unstable," Chaves said. The dogs Joe and Zeus made a first crawl of the area where it is presumed that the worker could be buried, of 60 years, but the results were negative.
At the time when the material fell, another two workers accompanied the tractor driver, but these people, noticing the movement of land, ran. The witnesses said that the backhoe operator jumped from the equipment, but was lost in the dirt.
The team collapsed about 30 meters from the site where the man was working.

At least 15 dead in Myanmar mine landslide
At least 17 people have been killed while dozens are feared trapped under debris after a landslide at a jade mine in Myanmar's northern Kachin state.
More than 100 people were in the mine at the time of the landslide, which occurred on Saturday, and dozens were missing before authorities called off the search because of bad weather.
According to a report from a hospital in the city of Hpakant, 17 people were confirmed dead, with many more injured.
Jade mine accidents are common in Myanmar, where the last major accident took place in January, in which six people were killed in a landslide at an abandoned mine in Kachin.
In a 2015 report, nonprofit Global Witness revealed that the jade miners work in dangerous conditions and are often exploited by warlords, drug traffickers and military officers.
Myanmar is the biggest producer of jadeite, a valuable variety of jade, which is mainly mined in mountains of Kachin.

Mexico: 23 houses collapse in Tijuana due to the collapse of a hill.
Jul 16, 2018
EL NUEVO DIARIO, TIJUANA (MEXICO) .- A total of 23 homes collapsed in the last hours on the side of a hill in the Mexican municipality of Tijuana due to several reported landslides, but no injuries have been reported so far.
According to the director of Civil Protection of this municipality of the northwestern state of Baja California, José Rito Portugal, the unstable conditions of the land can be the cause of the landslides.
"We see a slope of 20 meters, there are many factors that could detonate this, preliminarily and ocularly, what we are observing is something natural," he said, adding that they will wait for the results of the expert tests.
According to the official, the neighbors of the neighborhood (neighborhood) Reforma detected cracks in their houses for two weeks, but did not notify the authorities until Friday, July 13, when the fissures began to grow larger.
As a preventive action, inspectors from the Directorate of Civil Protection came and placed red labels on 11 homes that were in danger of collapsing, and warning their residents of the risk they were running if they decided to stay.
The next day, they placed warning signs in nine other houses and evicted their inhabitants.
During that day, the Municipal Government installed a Mobile Emergency Operations Center.
A few hours later there was the collapse of the first four houses, to which were added another 18 homes for the rest of the afternoon and Saturday night. Starting this Sunday, another house collapsed.
No person has been injured in these events, although some of the residents requested the police presence because they claim that acts of predation have begun.
One of the neighbors said that on Saturday night "strange people were around the remains of the property and I had the fear of being assaulted when I moved my belongings to a relative's house".
Given this, Rito Portugal said today that the Municipal Police is already in place, while the dependency in charge of the area of the disaster.
Likewise, personnel of the Mexican Army went to the demarcation to apply the DN-III-E Plan, which consists in providing relief work to the settlers affected by the collapse.
Meanwhile, the crews of workers from the State Public Services Commission of Tijuana (CESPT) and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) arrived to reinstate the water and electricity service that were suspended.
On the other hand, authorities of the municipal delegation informed that a temporary shelter for 25 people is already installed, installed in a nearby community center, although for the moment there have been no applicants.

Building in Istanbul collapses after landslide takes away foundation
ISTANBUL
July 24 2018 11:18:00
Torrential rains in Istanbul triggered a landslide on a construction site in the Sütlüce neighborhood on July 24, stripping away an apartment building’s foundation and causing it to collapse.
Local officials dispatched firefighters, ambulances and police units to Sütlüce’s İmrahor Avenue as amazed locals watched on as a four-storey building stood on a cliff without its foundation.
The road was closed to both pedestrians and car traffic as a precaution.
The landslide continued intermittently even after the construction below was halted.
The building eventually collapsed at 12:10 p.m, causing no casualties.
The building’s owner Emin Ertürk said they had warned authorities about the construction of a hotel in the adjacent plot, which he said was financed by former Barcelona footballer Arda Turan.
On the other hand, Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan said the collapsed apartment, which was built in 1994, did not have required permits.
