NEW DELHI — An eight-story building in Bangladesh that housed several garment factories collapsed on Wednesday morning, killing at least 70 people, injuring hundreds of others, and leaving an unknown number of people trapped in the rubble, according to Bangladeshi officials and media outlets.... http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/25/world/asia/bangladesh-building-collapse.html?hp&_r=0

So much happening under our feet.  Daily collapses of roadways due to the severe bow stretch, severe rains, crunching and land subduction all predicted in Zetatalk and all happening now.  Last week in Utah a fatal road collapse killed a 14 year old girl and injured 2.  It's painful to watch the planet crumble but we all knew it was coming.

Buildings collapsing.........a daily happening too.  With responses about what's causing all these happenings ranging from, rain, human error, poorly constructed, yada yada.....BUT, that's not going to fly with people much longer.  As soon as Planet X peers out at us from the sky, people will remember all the things that have happened up to this point and finally somehow, they will connect the dots.  Some will be in extreme denial, others will be so afraid and look for someone to take care of them, and still others will stand up and be counted and prepare as best we could.  There's no wishing this away, there's only pushing forward to a better tomorrow.  While our infrastructure crumbles around us we need to learn to be more careful, tread softly, kiss your kids, love with all your heart.  We are IN IT NOW.

I live in a house built in 1850 and it isn't falling down.  Age does not mean collapse.

100-year-old building partially collapses in Malone

By: Rachael Paradis

A building in Malone that has been standing for more than a century will no longer be a sight in the town. The building on Route 11, well known to many in the community, collapsed overnight. While no one was injured, our Rachael Paradis tells us why the town is in a rush to tear it down.

MALONE, N.Y. -- Neighbors in Malone stood in surprise, took pictures and even shared stories of a once popular tavern that started to crumble early Monday morning.

County Legislator Billy Jones said, "It's an old structure, it was a structure that was obviously unsafe."

The tavern/hotel was built in the early 1900'. It has been closed to the public for about 15 years and was condemned six months ago.

Franklin County Emergency Services Director Rick Provost, "We're unsure what occurred last night at 3 a.m. What we do know is this building has been on our list of buildings with issues."

Jones said, "Old things fall down."

Police closed off part off Route 11 to traffic and to people, out of concern the rest of the building could fall down. Some in the community voiced concern over why this building, along with others like it in the area that haven't already been demolished. Officials say it comes down to money.

Provost said, "The high cost of abatement for these buildings really makes it tough for the county or the village to take those burdens on."

Jones, "We just have to come up with a plan to start taking some of these building down so we don't run into this problem going forward."

The demolition is only expected to take hours, but cleaning up the area is a different issue. Officials say it could be weeks before the site is completely cleared.

LAKE ELSINORE: Water leak causes street collapse

10:00 PM PDT on Friday, July 22, 2011

By GENE GHIOTTO
The Press-Enterprise

Temporary repairs to a section of Joy Street in Lake Elsinore are in place today after a 1-inch water line gave way, causing 80 feet of the roadway to collapse and the asphalt to buckle.

The leak, caused by a 6 to 8-inch diameter tree root, was reported late Thursday in a line that leads to several duplexes on Joy between Machado Street and Riverside Drive, and behind Machado Elementary School.

Water service was restored to the 34 customers early Friday morning, said Greg Morrison, spokesman for the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District.

Water district and contractor crews spent much of Friday removing the damaged asphalt on the southbound side of Joy and laying down a temporary patch. The road was opened in both directions by late afternoon.

"That way the road will be open completely for the entire weekend," Morrison said.

Crews will return Monday and trench from curb to curb to permanently repair the 1-inch line.

On Tuesday, a paving company will remove the patch, put down new base and repave one side of Joy, Morrison said. Work on the other side will take place on Wednesday.

"That way on Tuesday and Wednesday we'll be able to keep on

Windhorst, Parsons Roadway Collapse: Cautious Testing Continues

County workers are testing for sinkholes but the work is proceeding methodically because of utility lines at the intersection, according to a Hillsborough County spokesman.

Several lanes at the intersection of Windhorst Road and Parsons Avenue in Brandon remained closed for the indefinite future as county workers tread carefully in determining what caused a section of the roadway to collapse July 19.

“We have to be really careful at that intersection because there are lots of utility lines in the area,” said Hillsborough County spokesman Patrick Murray. "We have a sewer line and a water line there and we have to make sure there are no other utilities, so we have to be careful drilling.”

At the scene, late afternoon July 22, barricades were seen at the intersection, with drilling under way.

Crew workers first believed a 16-inch sewage pipeline beneath the intersection might have caused the collapse of the 6-foot-square section of roadway on July 19, according to a county report.

But the sewer line was dug up and found to be intact.  Now the county is testing the intersection for sinkholes — but carefully, as Murray noted.

Additional detours and lane closures are possible as crews dig up the line for inspection and any necessary repairs.

Motorists who must travel through the intersection are warned to expect delays.

Sewer collapse closes part of Lexington Road

At least one eastbound lane of Road near Etley Avenue and Cave Hill Cemetery will be closed during Thursday morning’s rush hour after a 48-inch brick sewer collapsed Wednesday evening.

Crews noticed a depression in the road before discovering the sewer had collapsed, and the area will be excavated Thursday morning, said Metropolitan Sewer District Executive   Bud Schardein.

He said it was too early to tell what caused the collapse, but age was a likely factor. That part of the sewer was built in the 1880s and could have been weakened from an unusually wet spring.

“With all the wet weather we’ve had this past spring, that has a tendency to undermine the mortar,” Schardein said.

Road collapse might have killed Colorado family

(2011-07-20)

(wpr) - Engineers say a large section of Wyoming highway where four Colorado family members plunged to their deaths might have totally collapsed in a matter of minutes.

It had been raining for hours Monday night when local authorities warned the Constantinides family, among others, about potential flood conditions near North Brush Creek Campground around midnight.

Not long afterward, the family's van drove into a washed-out portion of Wyoming highway 130 and was swept about 75 yards down Brush Creek. Laurel Constantindies and her three daughters died.

The husband and father, Alex Constantindies, who had grown up in Laramie, survived and escape the vehicle. He and a passerby later rescued Carbon County Emergency management Coordinator John Ziegler, whose car washed out while he was trying to assist in flood protection efforts.

Ziegler said he was "very fortunate" to have survived.

Bruce Burrows of the Wyoming Transportation Department says engineers are studying what happened to the roadway early Tuesday morning. He says preliminary assessments indicate the creek swollen with rain and snowmelt may have undermined the roadway over some hours and then gouged a 25-foot-wide, 9-foot-deep hole in a matter of minutes.

Kenya police: 6-story residential building collapses in rain

    April 29, 2016 Updated: April 29, 2016 7:45pm

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — A six-story residential building in a low income area of the Kenyan capital collapsed Friday under heavy rain and flooding, trapping an unknown number of people in the rubble, Kenyan officials said.

A search-and-rescue team managed to pull three children and an adult out from the remains of the building in the Huruma area, the Kenya Red Cross said. It was not immediately clear whether there were fatalities.

The Red Cross said 150 building units and adjacent homes were affected.

Live TV footage showed the National Youth Service and firefighters removing stones by hand and a crowd cheering when a child was removed from the rubble.

Hours-long traffic jams caused by flooded roads delayed rescue teams trying to reach the scene, Japheth Koome, Nairobi's police chief, said. Kenya is in the midst of its April-May rainy season.

Because of a high demand for housing in Nairobi, some property developers bypass building regulations to cut costs and maximize profits. The Architectural Society of Kenya has estimated that 50 percent of structures in Nairobi are not up to code.

President Uhuru Kenyatta last year ordered an audit of all the buildings in the country to see if they are up to code after eight buildings collapsed, killing at least 15 people.

The report from the audit by the National Construction Authority found that 58 percent of buildings in the capital were unfit to live in. The majority of Nairobi's population live in low income areas or slums.

    Parking lot collapses, closing bridge

HARRISBURG, Pa. Three buildings and a parking lot near the Mulberry Street Bridge have collapsed, according to fire officials. WHP-TV's Kristin Mazur was at the scene when the parking lot collapsed. She reports she heard a loud noise and ran outside, where she saw part of the parking lot had collapsed and that an unoccupied car had come down with it.

Officials are saying that while the collapse has closed the bridge, the bridge is still safe.

The cement from the parking lot and the car just plummeted on top of Howard Tire & Auto, Inc. on Cameron Street, Mazur said.

"The wall adjacent to the bridge was not stable and I was saying that all along that this was going to happen one day, and it had to be fixed," Howard Tire & Auto, Inc. owner Howard Henry said.

Road closures are in place -- Cameron Street between Berry Hill and Market is currently closed, along with the Mulberry Street Bridge.

FLATTENED: The wreckage after the shop collapse this morning

The Seasham Harbour View Hotel in Durham collapsed straight onto the street as residents walked past while doing Bank Holiday shopping.

People watched in horror as the entire front of the building collapsed onto the pavement – narrowly missing two shoppers.

People were sitting either side having coffees when the rubble began raining onto the seafront footpath.

The hotel was hit by a huge fire in September last year and work was underway to demolish it when it fell to the ground this morning.

Shops and cafes on the street were shut amid the mayhem.

Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 10.50am today, they confirmed.

The firefighters attended following a call from a member of the public and made the building safe.

Shaun Sparks, who saw the incident happen told The Echo: "Was out on a Saturday morning jaunt on my road bike. It literally happened just before I rode past.

"Got covered in dust off the collapse. Apparently there was a couple that were just on the pavement as it happened. They were luckier."

The case has now been handed over to demolition experts and council officials.

Seven injured in structure collapse of framework at Muskrat Falls

    The Canadian Press
    May 30, 2016 03:48 AM

MUSKRAT FALLS, N.L. - Seven workers were injured in the collapse of a structure used in the pouring of concrete at a building at the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project in Labrador, the contractor said Monday.

Matthew Pike, spokesman for Astaldi Canada, said in an email that the framework supporting concrete that was being poured collapsed at about midnight. He said the accident occurred in the draft tube No. 2 area of the powerhouse during the night shift.

"Seven employees received first aid treatment at the site, with one employee sent to the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for a further assessment," he said. "None of the injuries at this time are classified as serious."

He offered no reason for the cause of the collapse, which spilled wet concrete on the workers.

Pike said work in the draft tube area of the powerhouse has been suspended while an investigation is underway by the company, Nalcor Energy and Occupational Health and Safety officials.

Nalcor Energy spokeswoman Karen O'Neill said in an email that company officials were gathering information at the site of the hydroelectric project.

Gilbert Bennett, vice-president of the Lower Churchill Project, issued a statement saying any recommendations stemming from the probe into the accident will be followed.

"We will ensure a full safety investigation is completed and that the contractor and its workers implement all safety recommendations that might be identified following this incident," he said.

The accident comes amid cost overruns, delays and the sudden departure of former Nalcor Energy president and CEO Ed Martin, along with questions over his departure package.

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Dwight Ball asked the province's auditor general on Sunday to review a $1.4-million severance payment made to Martin.

Dwight Ball said he is referring the issue of Martin's severance package to "an independent outside agency" at the recommendation of the provincial justice department.

Martin abruptly resigned from the provincial Crown corporation behind the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project in a cloud of controversy that has enveloped the house of assembly for more than a month.

The province has spent almost $4.8 billion building the dam and powerhouse on the Lower Churchill River, the largest publicly funded project in its history.

Stan Marshall, the new head of Nalcor, said recently there's little chance the troubled hydro project will be cancelled despite the soaring costs and delays.

He is assessing cost and schedule overruns for a full status update he hopes to deliver in late June, and could include replacing the major construction contractor, Astaldi.

    VA building evacuated

Crews investigating apartment building collapse in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Crews are working to determine what exactly caused part of an apartment building in Norfolk to collapse Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews are on the scene at the 200 block of W. Bay Ave. at the Gates of West Bay complex near Ocean View.

According to the fire battalion chief, brick on the building began falling off, but there's no indication of an explosion or issues with any gas lines.

Ahmedabad: An elderly couple, tenants, died after their home collapsed on Tuesday evening. The duo was taken out of the debris, but while the husband died en route, his wife died on reaching the hospital. Shahpur police have started an investigation to ascertain whether negligence led to the incident.

Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) said they got a call from Nagoriwad on RC Technical Institute Road in Shahpur area at 7 pm, when the middle portion of a two-storey building collapsed. A team rushed to the spot to remove the debris and found the couple - Dayaram Suryavanshi, 65, and his wife Shantaben, 60 - under the debris, unconscious. They had sustained severe head and body injuries. Both died soon after the rescue, officials added.

Rajesh Bhatt, additional chief fire officer of AFES, said this is the fifth incident they have attended in ten days from the walled city area, for structural collapse. In three of calls, these collapses have been fatal. "There may be issues ranging from maintenance to tenant-owner relationship but even as work is on to identify dangerous structures, citizens should understand that such negligence can cost lives," he said.

    • House was sold in January for £660,000 and has been under development since then without anyone living there

A £700,000 terraced house in London collapsed 30 minutes after its front began to sag dangerously.

Police were forced to close off Lampmead Road in Lewisham and this morning the property, which was undergoing extensive works, fell down.

Neighbours said the sound of the house collapsing was 'like a bomb had gone off' - and some described an ear-splitting 'crunch' as it came down.

Dangerous: 30 minutes earlier the roof and front of the building began to sag dangerously and neighbours were evacuated

The road in south-east London was then filled with brick dust, which then flew upwards into the sky.

People living next door to the property, believed to be owned by Sajdah Haq Williams and her husband Robert, are thought to have been evacuated by police when the house began sagging dangerously.

Residents were evacuated at around 11am, and moments later, the roof fell in.

Ted Ashton, a passerby, was walking to work when he spotted the carnage.

'The area was cordoned off and police were there, that sort of thing.

'Then obviously I saw the house on the corner leaning forwards at the top and the roof was caved in.'

Ken Taylor, who across the road, said the house collapsed at around 11am.

The 74 year-old told the Evening Standard: 'First of all a couple of bricks fell out then gradually the whole roof sagged outwards and some of it fell off.

'Today they were just about to start inspecting it with a cherry picker when the whole roof fell in. Maybe it was that. There was a big crunch and a big cloud of dust, it was like a bomb had gone off'.

The house was sold in January and has been under development since then without anyone living there.

The owners paid £660,000 for the property but it is thought to have been worth around £700,000 at the time of its collapse.

Describing what happened, architect Ted Aston, 55, told the Evening Standard: 'The roof of the building was leaning over the street, the corner of the road was cordoned off and they weren't letting anyone near it.

'I spoke to a police officer outside and she told me next door had been evacuated, as she understands it all of the internal walls have been removed.'

He added: 'There's been some sort of refurbishment work going on at the house. It had some hoarding up at the front to protect the public while the work was going on but then this happened.

'I've gone past the house on my way to and from work as I live locally. You could see the walls were bowing this morning and when I went back it had collapsed in on itself.

'It's such a shame. They are lovely houses - around 100 years old. A woman at the scene told me that apparently all the interior walls had been removed. I don't know how true that is but I don't know why they would do that.'

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said no-one was injured in the incident.

HYANNIS — Two men were seriously injured when a floor collapsed during renovations at a former car dealership on Stevens Street Friday morning.

They were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with multiple traumatic injuries, Hyannis fire Capt. William Rex said.
The men, who were not identified, were on a man lift while working in the building, when the cement floor collapsed beneath them, Rex said.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
Firefighters and police flooded the building's garage late Friday morning. A Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation officials with a camera used a ramp to access the building's basement. Yellow tape cordoned off the area inside the building.
The two men who were on the lift were immediately taken to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance; one was later taken by a MedFlight helicopter to a Boston hospital, Hyannis Deputy Fire Chief Dean Melanson said. Another man who was struck by debris declined treatment at the scene, but later drove himself to Cape Cod Hospital.
The men are employees of Environmental Response Services Inc. of Middleboro, and were removing environmentally sensitive items, such as light fixtures that contained mercury, in preparation for retrofitting the building, according to OSHA spokesman Edmund Fitzgerald.
The company does asbestos removal, mold removal, hazardous material handling and decontamination, according to its website.
Environmental Response Services officials did not respond to voicemail and email messages on Friday.
The building at 268 Stevens St. was eventually going to be demolished, Melanson said.
The property is owned by Hyannis Imported Cars LP, according to online Barnstable assessor's records. Hyannis Imported Cars LP lists Paul and Stuart Bornstein as its directors in an annual report with the Massachusetts Secretary of State. The property, which has been the home of a series of dealerships, including Hyannis Nissan and Balise Nissan, is valued at $797,500, according to assessors records.
Stuart Bornstein, a prominent local businessman who runs Holly Management & Supply, was on the scene of the collapse Friday morning. A message left at his office seeking more information had not been returned as of Friday afternoon.
The property at 268 Stevens St. is listed on the website for Holly Management as available for rent, including 10,000 square feet of living space, an auto dealership with maintenance bays on 1.48 acres with parking and a display lot for more than 100 cars.
The building had been unoccupied for years, and there were preliminary plans to build a new car dealership in its place, Melanson said.
“We're still trying to mediate the fuel spill,” he said about a spill from the lift.

Later on in the afternoon, three others were found.

But it is obvious that the death toll might increase onlookers indicate that tens of people were in the uncomplete building that had a drinking spot on its ground floor.

The Littoral Governor Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua and some security officers visited the site of the incident where they noticed that the building was poorly constructed with low quality building material.

While the remains were taken to the Logbaba Hospital Mortuary, the owner of the construction site is presently under Gendarmerie custody pending investigations.

It happened at 3100 Carlisle Street.

Four people hospitalised after standing on first-floor Brighton balcony that collapsed into basement

Four people have been injured, two seriously, after a balcony they were standing on collapsed.

Emergency services were called to a first-floor flat in Montpelier Road, Brighton, just after 11.45pm (Friday, July 1).

Multiple police units arrived soon after the collapse, with several fire engines also in attendance.

Neighbours said they heard a "loud crash" before venturing outside to see what had happened.

The first-floor stone balcony of the flat was half-missing, with its iron railings warped where the flooring had fallen away.

Part of the balcony fell, past the ground floor entrance, into a basement flat access way of the building, believed to have been constructed in the mid-19th century. Some of those injured fell with it into the basement.

A resident living a few doors down, who did not wish to be named, was standing outside in night clothes with his partner.

He told The Argus: "We heard a loud bang and came outside.

"From inside the flat it felt like a car crash."

A police inspector told onlooking residents to go back into their homes and not to go on to their balconies as a precaution.

Other passers-by, some of whom were Friday-night revellers, were turned back as a cordon was extended to the junction of Montpelier Terrace and, farther uphill, at the junction of Victoria Road.

Two of the casualties went to hospital by ambulance about an hour after emergency services arrived.

The other two were rushed to A&E at about 1.10am today (Saturday, July 2).

Sussex Police spokesman confirmed to The Argus that four people were injured.

He said: "We have two walking wounded and two seriously injured.

    "There are no suspicious circumstances."

The road was closed as the incident unfolded and a "multi-agency meeting" took place to assess the situation.

Fire crews from as far afield as Lewes and Battle were called in to assist with the rescue operation as it is believed those in the basement are unable to move, according to nearby residents, though a fire service spokeswoman could not confirm that anybody was trapped under debris.

A spokeswoman from East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 11.49pm by ambulance crews.

"There was a balcony which we believe had collapsed.

"There are four casualties, which crews and the ambulance are dealing with.

"Some of the casualties are in the basement area."

There were three fire engines from Brighton, two from Lewes and two from Battle as well as several ambulances.

Building control officials later arrived on scene.

Kata hill westbound reduced to one lane following road collapse

PHUKET: — A landslide under a newly laid section of road on the westbound section of Kata hill [4028] at the Sataw bend has left the road with large cracks meaning it has been reduced to one lane only due to it being a danger to motorists.

Pichak Sornchana, Deputy Director of the Highway Department confirmed to The Phuket News today (July 1) that officials are aware of the damage and that temporary measures have been taken to stop further damage occurring.

“We were notified of the damage on June 18 and at that time we placed traffic cones on site so that traffic avoided the damaged section of road. Concrete barriers later replaced the cones, and shuttering was placed where the landslide had occurred to stop it sliding any further,” he said.

Mr Pichak went on to explain that the damage occurred when the Phuket Provincial Electric Authority (PEA) were carrying out work to install new electricity pylons alongside the road.

“PEA dug at about ten spots alongside the road ready to put in the pylons, and the foundations for the pylons had already been prepared. However, as they went further towards the bend, when they dug out the soil the land slipped and caused the road to crack.

Tenerife (Spain) (AFP) - Over 100 people were rescued by helicopter Wednesday following the collapse of a cliffside road in Spain's Canary Islands that left a village cut off, official said.

Four helicopters transported a total of 123 people from the port of Teno on the northern coast of the resort island of Tenerife, the largest and most populous of the archipelago off the Moroccan coast, to the nearby port of Garachico, a local emergency services spokeswoman said.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday and it lasted several hours, she added. None of the people who were evacuated needed medical attention, she said.

A roughly eight-metre (26-foot) long stretch of the only road linking the port of Teno with the rest of the island collapsed late on Tuesday, stranding dozens of local residents and visitors.

The port of Teno is known for its picturesque lighthouse on a narrow rocky headland and volcanic coastline which make it a popular day trip.

Access to the port remained cut on Wednesday as experts investigated the causes of the road collapse, the regional government said

Six-story building collapses in Shubra al-Kheima, no casualties

    On

    Thu, 14/07/2016 - 12:16
At least three people were killed and five injured when a five-storey building collapsed in Ismailia early on Monday morning, while rescue workers were still digging for missing persons, including an 11-year-old child and a woman, by late morning.

A six-story building collapsed on Syria Street, west of Shubra al-Kheima district, on Wednesday evening.

There were no reported deaths resulting from the collapse, with all residents evacuating shortly before the building came down.

Investigators say that the building was already condemned due to a lack of concrete pillars and was due for demolition.

However, they did not say what exactly sparked the collapse on Wednesday night.

Qalyubia Governor Reda Farahat headed to the scene when he heard the news and asked for a thorough investigation. He was accompanied by Alaa al-Nady, head of the district, and Mostafa Abbas, the governor's deputy secretary general.

The governor also insisted that a proper clean-up operation was started to remove the remains of the building and clean up the area.

Unsafe buildings often collapse across Egypt, with occasional deaths and injuries. In some cases, the buildings were already vacated or at least earmarked for demolition, although others simply collapse unexpectedly due to poor construction or heavy rain.

In March, several people were killed and injured when a five-storey building collapsed in Ismailia. Heavy rain was given as a possible reason for the final collapse of the unsound structure.

The same month, three buildings collapsed in the Karmouz neighborhood of Alexandria, with no deaths of injuries. The buildings, which had already been evacuated ahead of demolition, were cordoned off.

Myer redevelopment site flooded after Hobart Rivulet wall collapses

    Updated 57 minutes ago

Water from the Hobart Rivulet has flooded a major construction site in the CBD, leading to roads blocks and the closure of the adjacent shopping centre.

    Key points:

    • A brick wall between the Myer worksite and the Hobart Rivulet collapsed
    • Debris from the collapse created dam in rivulet, pushing water into worksite
    • The Cat and Fiddle shopping centre has been closed

A major operation to remove floodwater from the worksite is underway after the rivulet wall partially collapsed overnight.

No-one was present at the Myer redevelopment on Murray Street when the inundation happened but the water has risen high enough to almost cover two excavators.

Kevin Harkins from the CFMEU said the brick wall collapse had created a dam in the rivulet, pushing more water into the site.

"The Hobart Rivulet has broken through what is a brick embankment and the water from that is flowing through onto the jobsite," he said.

"Substantial material has fallen into the rivulet, so it's created a bit of a dam."

Mr Harkins anticipated a lengthy repair period ahead.

"This is major building collapse. Thanks God no-one's been injured," he said.

"Because the site's so dangerous, because a wall and a roof have basically collapsed, it's about unpicking that before we start construction and the repair of anything else.

"The damage to the buildings next door is substantial, so there's going to need to be a lot of investigation done before anyone can really start any meaningful work again."

Maihar: A woman was killed and sevenothers today when a three-storey building collapsed here in Satna district, officials said. One woman was killed and seven others have been injured in the incident, while 9-12 persons are feared trapped in the debris, Satna Collector Naresh Pal told PTI.

The deceased, yet to be identified, was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed during treatment, Pal said. “Initially, it appears that the building collapsed due to sub standard material used in its construction.

The official said there may be a possibility that the building could not have withstand the water that had inundated around it due to persistent downpour for the past two-three days.
