"Stretch zones primarily experience sinking ground, as the support in the rock strata is stretched thin. Thus, buildings implode and gas and water mains break." ZetaTalk
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What happens to rock layers under a diagonal pull, or being pulled apart? As can be seen during recent years, this has resulted in derailing trains, sinkholes suddenly appearing, gas and water main breaks, torn roadways and separating bridges. Despite the effect on man, crawling about on the surface of what they assume to be terra firma, these changes are superficial. When the pulling starts, weak points break and thereafter the plumbing and roadways hold, giving the impression that the pulling has stopped, but this is misleading. The North American continent is giving evidence that its rock layers are separating from each other, and sliding sideways in a diagonal, thus exposing portions of these layers to vent into the air above. If rock is being stressed, then where are the earthquake predictors giving evidence of this, the frantic animals, the static on the radio, the earthquake swarms? Rock in the stretch zone, pulling apart rather than compressing, does not emit the particles flows that animals and radios sense, nor register on instruments are tension and release quakes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We have repeatedly stated that the Earth changes will not diminish, but will increase going into the pole shift.
This is not a lineal matter, as the closer Planet X comes to Earth, an inevitable path, the more the torque effect and the polar wobble where the N Pole of Earth is pushed away violently on a daily basis, occur. The wobble will become more pronounced, more violent. The plates are tugged back West of the Atlantic, pulled forward East of the Atlantic, during the daily rotation of the Earth. The North American continent is allowed to roll East during rotation while the S Pole is pulled West, creating the diagonal pull likely to trigger the New Madrid fault line into an adjustment, and soon. The N Pole is pushed away and allowed to bounce back, daily, as the Earth rotates, a wobble that puts stress on all fault lines when the plates are suddenly in motion, and suddenly stopped!
"As there is no other explanation for the effect on the stretch zone, lacking any earthquakes to blame, and as these stretch zone accidents will continue to emerge, and with ferocity, this is a certain clue to those on the fence, that the influence of Planet X is the cause. Or is it Global Warming?"
ZetaTalk Chat Q&A for April 13, 2013
"Sinkholes almost invariably form in areas subject to karst limestone cavern formation. Underground water flows eat away the limestone leaving vast caverns and caves, which often give scant indication above ground that a cavern lies below. Karst limestone rock formations have been mapped and are known, however, but since one never knows just where a cavern might have formed, this provides little help in predicting just where a sinkhole might form. Sinkholes open up when the rock is fractured due to stress from being in the stretch zone, from the bending of a plate, or due to torsion."

Town centre brought to a standstill after 15-foot sinkhole opens up in street - almost swallowing up cars
A busy town centre was brought to a standstill this afternoon after a mysterious 15-foot sinkhole opened up in the road without warning - almost swallowing a number of cars in the process.
Motorists had to swerve out of the way of the giant hole after it appeared on the residential Earl Street in Northampton UK at around 2pm, just hours after part of a London pavement collapsed, swallowing a pedestrian.
Shocking pictures show the gaping chasm - which was around eight foot (2.4 metres) wide - with a section of surrounding road also looking on the verge of collapse.
Eyewitness Matthew Green, 24, was in the pub when he heard a loud bang.
He said: 'I was just having a drink with my mate when there was this loud crashing noise.
'I thought there had been an accident but when I went outside, I saw the road had collapsed.
'The hole is massive. It must nearly cover half of the width of the whole road.
'It is incredible. It is like something you would see in a disaster movie.'

Panola County man dies after truck drives into pothole
PANOLA COUNTY - A man died over the weekend after a vehicle he was riding it drove into a flooded pothole.
James Willie Harris, 49, of Panola County, died Saturday morning after the 1999 Chevrolet truck he was riding in "took a nose dive" on a collapsed portion of Mount Olivet Road, according to Sheriff Dennis Darby. The accident happened around 4 a.m.
Darby said heavy rains Friday night caused the road and a nearby culvert to collapse.
"We had right at four inches of rain right there and the pressure of water blew out the ditch and the culvert," Darby said Monday. "It's just an enormous amount of rain. It was a mess. The hole was wide enough that he nosed down in it. That's a hard lick."
Darby said the driver of the vehicle, Danny Towns, received medical treatment at an unknown hospital. Law enforcement officials also took samples from Towns to run a toxicology report, Darby said.
The hole is currently roped off but will be repaired by the county, Darby said.

Recurring Sinkhole Traps Residents In McLoud, Oklahoma (May 10)
On Southeast 121st Street in McLoud, after the first washout earlier in the week, residents on the private road tried to fill the sinkhole with gravel. But only a fraction of the gravel remained on Sunday because Saturday's rain washed it out again.
The 13 by 12 foot sink hole was a sight to see and it stopped more than 20 families from doing what they need to do. They were basically stranded.
And as if being basically stranded wasn't enough, Robert Henson lives just on the other side of the sinkhole and his house was flooded with eight inches of rain.
“We rolled towels up, blocked the doors best we could. I went out of the house through a window,” Henson explained.
And now with no way to haul in any help, he's between a rock and a hard place.
“I have people offering to help but, have them come down here and stand on one side of the road and not be able to get across, it does no good,” Henson said.
Roughly 22 families live on Southeast 121st and the sinkhole is putting a strain on all of them.
“I just came down this morning just to see how bad it was,” said homeowner Stan Byers.
Sunday it was deeper than it was the first time water plowed through it earlier in the week. Residents said it's going to need a new culvert and several truckloads of material to fill it back up. And since it's a private road, these residents said it's up to them to find the resources to repair it.
Some people were able to cross when the sinkhole was filled for a brief hour before being washed out again. They parked their vehicles on the other side and are able to leave. But the others will likely be stuck for several days until the road committee can get crews there to fix it.
Residents are able to walk across a portion of the road there, which is critical in the case of an emergency.

Large Sinkhole in Granbury Texas (May 10)
The dramatic scene unfolding in front of the Brookshire's supermarket in Granbury on Sunday is evidence of the power of water.
A large chunk of the parking lot along Morgan Street was washed away by flooding, leaving a deep, gaping hole in the pavement estimated at 40 feet across.
By Sunday afternoon, the Granbury City Council convened an emergency meeting at the site of the sinkhole/landslide to discuss the damage here and elsewhere.
Council member Rose Myers showed up with pizza for workers who had been at the scene through the night.

Sunset residents frustrated by recurring sinkhole
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Sunset-residents-frustrated-b...
A city crew showed up bright and early the next morning and patched the 2-foot-wide chasm, and Wong thought everything was fine.
By 3 p.m., however, the asphalt patch had sunk 6 inches — and by nightfall the thing had completely opened up, forcing the fire department to come out to cordon off the area.
This was far from the first accordion act of open-patch-open for the sinkhole on the 900 block of Quintara Street between 18th and 19th avenues.
The city has repaired the same sinkhole five times since August and three times in April alone, said Rachel Gordon, a Department of Public Works spokeswoman.
Wong, a 45-year-old product developer who has lived on the block for 17 years, was happy the city responded so quickly, but the amount of time and energy that has gone into fixing what he sees as a simple hole is less than encouraging.
“I know it’s hard to get things done in this system and they are trying to get big things done,” he said. “But I’m afraid to know what’s bigger than a gaping hole in the street.”
It turns out the underlying problem lies under the street, as the city faces the daunting task of replacing its aging infrastructure.

Burnaby sinkhole on Albert Street grows larger overnight
Metro Vancouver officials say the cause is under control and homes are not threatened
CBC News Posted: May 12, 2015 10:15 AM PT Last Updated: May 12, 2015 10:15 AM PT
A large sinkhole that opened up in Burnaby, B.C., near the 4800 block of Albert Street on Monday has grown larger overnight according to worried residents.
Albert Street was closed between Gamma and Delta Avenues after the sinkhole was discovered, but on Tuesday morning residents said more of the road had collapsed overnight.
On Monday evening officials estimated the sinkhole was five metres long, two metres wide and more than a metre deep.
But Metro Vancouver spokesperson Marilyn Towill said while the road continues to settle, there is no more water coming down and the problem is not getting worse.
"There was quite a bit of gravel that washed out from underneath the asphalt road surface last night when the water was running down. Once that gravel is gone, then the asphalt will settle over time," she said.
"From what we have found so far, it is contained to the utility structure, and we have no concerns it going to threaten people's homes," she said.
The investigation into the exact cause is still underway, but it looks like the sinkhole was caused by the water utilities in the neighbourhood.
"The water came from a chamber up the hill. Looks like it undermined the road, ran along where some previous utility pipes had been running along the road, and has basically washed out the road base, and that's why we see some settlement," said Towill.
Crews will excavate the hole and rebuild the gravel base to repair the road, she said.

Seismic activity caused sink hole, water leak in Hollister, city says
HOLLISTER, Calif. —A water main leak in Hollister flowed under one man's house and caused a sink hole that swallowed part of his car.
"Saturday afternoon I went in the backyard and I (saw) water coming out of my basement door," homeowner Edward Perreira said.
Perreira said he has lived at his home on South Street for more than 40 years and he never dreamed he'd see this.
"I've seen sink holes in Florida and other places, but not here. And I have to be the lucky one," he said.
A small river of water flowed for three days under Perreira's home, causing it to lose its foundation. His car was parked in a concrete driveway when its rear tire was swallowed by a 4-foot wide sink hole.
City crews dug into the street Wednesday, found the origin of the problem and shut off the leak.
"This particular location the pipe crossed the fault, so yes wherever pipes cross the fault, this could happen," said Hollister Management Services Director Mike Chambless.
Chambless called it the Hollister geologic-creep phenomenon. A fault line running through the city and as the plates slowly shift, the pipe just snaps. Chambless said not many pipes run across the fault line, but the sewer line does.
"We're going to inspect the sewer lines to make sure that there's no problems there," Chambless said.
Chambliss said a second leak sprung up Wednesday night nearby along the same pipeline. That leak was quickly plugged up.
City engineers determined that the leaks and sinkhole were being caused by seismic activity in the Earth's crust. The pipe runs directly above the San Andreas Fault.
The San Andreas Fault is a strike-slip fault where the North American and Pacific tectonic plates sometimes touch and create earthquakes.
City representatives said they will foot the water bill, which they estimate being thousands of dollars.
As for Perreira's driveway, Chambless said it's too early to say. The road in front of his house will be closed as crews work tomorrow and next week to repave the street.

Giant Sinkholes Continue to Grow and Multiply in Russian City (May 22)
The latest mysterious sinkhole that has appeared in a Urals city has grown in size four-fold in just three months, officials have said.
First spotted on February 17 during routine observations around crater-hit Berezniki, in Perm Krai, it was found to be just five metres in diameter. The fifth hole to have been found in the town in a decade, it was later measured at 7.5metres.
'At the moment the size of the hole is estimated at about 22 metres,' said Andrey Rodionov. 'It has extended due to the sliding of its walls but it is unlikely to have become any deeper, and is still nine metres deep.'
With a population of about 155,000 people, Berezniki is the second largest city in the Perm region.
There are now five holes around the city, with fears this will only grow. Residents living close to the craters have been moved away from the danger zone, but the threat remains.
The original sinkhole, locally called The Grandfather was initially 80metres long and 40metres wide, but has swelled to a much bigger size.
The building of a school, near the fifth hole, has been abandoned and the school moved to another location.

Sinkhole Reported at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport says a sinkhole was discovered near one of the runways in a safety area. Runway 18L is closed until repairs are complete. (Published Tuesday, May 26, 2015)
Runway 18L is back open at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport after a sinkhole was discovered nearby Tuesday morning, airport officials said.
The sinkhole developed in a grassy area about 250 feet between a taxiway and runway 18L after a section of a storm drain became dislodged from the main storm drain line, creating erosion of the soil around the drain, D/FW Airport Spokesman David Magaña said.
The opening was approximately 25-feet by 25-feet, however the exact depth was unknown.
Airfield inspectors found the sinkhole in what's called the safety area, according to Magaña.
Engineers determined the integrity of the runway remains intact, and the runway was not affected by the soil erosion, Magaña said.
The runway was back open by about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Closure of the runway, one of the four longest at the airport, was having minimal impact on the airport, as the remaining six runways were operational.
Construction crews will begin making repairs on the storm drain Wednesday, but Magaña said the runway would not need to be closed during the repair work.
D/FW Airport reports it's the third busiest airport in the world for air traffic operations and sees approximately 174,000 passengers per day making it ninth in the world for passenger traffic.

Sergeant scrambles to safety after sinkhole swallows Sheridan police SUV
http://kdvr.com/2015/06/05/massive-sinkhole-swallows-sheridan-polic...
SHERIDAN, Colo. — A Sheridan police sergeant’s SUV went into a massive sinkhole early Friday morning on West Oxford Avenue near River Point Parkway.
Sgt. Greg Miller was taken to Swedish Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries after the accident about 2:15 a.m. as he was traveling eastbound on Oxford at Natches Court.
The Sheridan Police Department said as Miller entered the intersection, the road gave way and collapsed, creating a sinkhole about 10 to 15 feet deep.
“I was on basic patrol driving down the road and the next I know there’s a big bam,” Miller said. “And I realize I’m down in this hole with water rushing around me. Dirt walls. And the only thing I can think of is I better get out of here.”
Miller crawled onto the roof and out of the sinkhole and has since been released from the hospital.
“I climbed through the driver’s side window. Reached up, grabbed the rails on top of the SUV, pulled myself up onto the roof, then reached up onto the pavement and pulled myself out.”
The SUV is a total loss.

Southwest Colorado Springs neighborhood ravaged by sinkholes
http://fox21news.com/2015/06/11/southwest-colorado-springs-neighbor...
Some are worried the problem could get worse if it’s not fixed soon.
The sinkholes are in the southwest part of town on Irvington Court, where there are two, and on Ellsworth Street, which has another.
Neighbors said one sinkhole has been getting worse for around three weeks, while the others are more recent and progressing faster.
Diane Smith said the city isn’t doing nearly enough to fix the problem.
“They’re doing nothing, other than putting cones around, which is not a fix. … It just makes me crazy, because you want to be careful there’s another car coming, you have to stop. It’s just ridiculous,” said Smith.
This problem isn’t going away by itself.
“They’re getting worse,” said Smith. “When we went out yesterday the one down around the corner was sinking, you could see, but it hadn’t gone down. We came up about four hours later and it completely collapsed.”
Smith said she’s disappointed in the city.
“We have not seen one person. Nobody from the city, even driving up to see where they are,” said Smith.
That is angering for her and her neighbors.
“It hasn’t rained in this area and yet they still haven’t been up here, so they don’t have an excuse and I think heavy rain is going to make it much worse,” said Smith.

Sinkhole forces Illawong residents to evacuate
http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/sinkhole-forces-illawong-residents-to-eva...
The three-metre deep hole opened up about 4pm, forcing police and firefighters to evacuate a row of townhouses on Osprey Drive.
One man was asleep on his couch when he heard a loud crack in his garden outside, the man's friend, Hisham Bashir said.
"He looked outside and the tree had collapsed and the ground started to sink," Mr Bashir said.
"Dirt had sprayed up all over his backyard and on the trampoline. There was dirt all over the windows.
"It's pretty scary, but these things happen," he said.
Police said the hole measured 10 metres by six metres, and was three metres deep. They said it opened up without warning.
Thirteen residents inside the homes were evacuated as a precaution. While most have now returned to their homes, the man who saw the sinkhole open, along with his partner and their six-month-old baby, have not been able to do so.
The townhouses sit on top of a massive garage that services the 22-unit complex, which is prone to flooding, most recently during the Sydney storms in April.

Large sinkhole opens on Lenexa golf course
Canyon Farms shortens hole, keeps course open
LENEXA, Kan. —A big sinkhole has opened up on a Lenexa golf course.
The sinkhole is on the left side of the fairway on the 13th hole at Canyon Farms Golf Course. Despite the change in the landscape, the course and the hole itself remain open.
“I believe it’s par 4,” said golfer Jerry Nelson. “But they have set the tee box way up front about 120 yards out.”
Shortening the hole takes the sinkhole out of play.
A statement from the owners said a portion of the course is built over a nonoperating limestone mine. The statement said the majority of the mine is considered stable, according to various geotechnical studies.
Nelson and his partner said they took a good look at the sinkhole as they played the course.
“We walked to walk around and look into it a little bit. It looks like everything has sunk 10 feet or so,” Nelson said. “The green from the grass is down about 8 to 10 feet, something like that.”
Canyon Farms management said sinkholes on golf courses are common. Nelson said it was first one he has ever seen. Recent wet weather may have been a factor in causing the sinkhole to open up.
The owners said they’re trying to figure out how to repair the sinkhole.

Nine sinkholes in 3 months scare locals in central town
http://www.dailysabah.com/nation/2015/06/25/nine-sinkholes-in-3-mon...
Karapınar, a town of some 48,000 people in the central province of Konya, was once known for its desert-like landscape dotted with countless dunes that rain dust on the town in bad weather. Now it faces another threat, this time from underground in the form of sinkholes.
Nine sinkholes, with some reaching 70-meters in depth, have emerged over the past three months in the town. Although they were not in residential areas, locals live in fear that a massive sinkhole could devour buildings.
Sinkholes have been common in the area since 1997, but their size has considerably increased in the past two years, during which 12 sinkholes have emerged. Dirican says the figure may be higher, as some landowners do not report sinkholes in their fields so that they are not closed to use for agriculture.
Experts link over 200 sinkholes in the region outside Karapınar to recent downpours.

Epic sinkhole shuts down street in the Junction
http://www.blogto.com/city/2015/06/epic_sinkhole_shuts_down_street_...
A sinkhole as large as a SUV opened up today on Runnymede just south of Dundas West in the Junction. Police quickly closed the street to traffic and the TTC has diverted the 79 Scarlett Rd and 71 Runnymede buses indefinitely until the road is sufficiently repaired.
While the sinkhole isn't as large as those seen elsewhere, it was large enough to make the evening news and get some attention on social media.

Exmouth beach cordoned off as large mystery hole appears (England)
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-devon-33378065
A large mystery hole which spurted "big plumes of water" and sent plants and snails shooting into the air has appeared on a beach.
The coastguard at Exmouth beach cordoned off the 15ft (4.6m) by 15ft hole on Thursday afternoon.
When the coastguard team arrived they said the surrounding sand was soft and fresh holes were appearing.
Kite surf instructor James Dart said: "I looked over and there were big plumes of water coming out of the beach it was all bubbling up much like a geyser, it was probably going about a foot above the beach - it was quite tremendous sight.

Massive sinkhole near Chene and Medbury on Detroit's east side
DETROIT (WXYZ) - A Detroit roadway gives way, creating a danger for passing drivers.
The massive sinkhole is at least 25 feet wide and several feet deep. The images are startling.
"We were driving down Chene, next thing we knew, we just missed the giant sinkhole." Pastor Barry Randolph said. "It's amazing we didn't fall in."
At the time, the sinkhole wasn't marked to alert Randolph and others to the danger. Instead of driving by, the Pastor and his niece turned around.
With the help of other good Samaritans, they were able to block the road until help could arrive. A cab driver blocked the road and a DTE crew blocked the area with cones and caution tape.
Neighbors say crews patched the roadway last week, then sometime Monday, the road gave way.
Within an hour of alerting the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, a crew arrived to look at the damage. A short time after that, several crews arrived to begin repairs.

Sinkhole on Eglinton Ave. W. partially closes road near Keele St.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/sinkhole-on-eglinton-ave-w-pa...
Toronto police are warning people to avoid a section of Eglinton Avenue West where a large sinkhole has opened up.
Police said the six-metre long sinkhole — large enough to swallow a car — opened up on Eglinton Avenue West, between Keele Street and Richardson Avenue.
Anne Marie Aikins, a spokeswoman for Metrolinx, said construction on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT line was not responsible for the sinkhole.
"As soon as we heard about the issue this morning we sent our team to the site and they determined it's unrelated to our construction and hasn't impacted their work on the Crosstown," Aikins wrote in an email to CBC News.

Locals troubled by 15 fresh sinkholes in Armala, Nepal.
Armala village, near Pokhara, witnesses numerous sinkholes once again
July 12, 2015
sinkholes of various sizes have appeared in Armala village, near Pokhara, of Kaski district, once again.
Around one and half years ago, dozens of sinkholes had been formed in Armala, terrorising and displacing hundreds of local residents from the village.
Though land had stopped caving in after a few months, it has restarted recently, making the villagers anxious.
A local informed that at least 15 holes have appeared in the village in last three days.
Liladhar Acharya, another local and chairman of Armala Disaster Management Committee, said the villagers are going through sleepless nights amid fear of possible destruction.
The caving-in has put a private school and six individual houses as well as drinking water pipes, electricity and telephone lines and roads of the area at a high risk.
Locals have warned that possible destruction in the village may cause a blockage in supply of drinking water, electricity and telephone lines to the Lake City.
An expert team from the Department of Mines and Geology had recommended not to plant paddy – and any crop requiring irrigation – in the village. However, the villagers apparently overruled the recommendation and planted paddy recently.
They had left around 500 ropani field bare last year, owing to the recommendation. That had incurred a loss of around Rs 90 million, according to Acharya.
The geo-physical survey team had also concluded that excessive use of natural resources including encroachment on water resources was the major cause of the disaster.
A senior expert from the Department, Shree Kamal Dwivedi, said paddy plantation should be prohibited in the area for at least next five years.

Large 'Land Shift' at Kansas Playground (Jul 17)
The school has closed off the playground to visitors because it’s too dangerous for kids to go near it. The land has shifted, forming a giant hole where some kids play. What’s left is crumbling asphalt, a giant puddle and caution tape everywhere.
It’s not the playground Joe Anderson remembers his kids playing on nearly every day at school.
“We often after school just go walking around and stuff, so it’s kind of surprising that something like that would be around,” Anderson said.
The school district won’t say what’s to blame for the ground suddenly sinking along the fence and are only calling it a land shift.
Charlie McComb worries about taking his 2-year-old son to visit the playground.
“We like to go up there, he likes it quite a bit. It’d be nice if they get it fixed,” he said.
The massive rains we’ve seen this summer could be to blame. The playground is built along a retaining wall.
“You wouldn’t think a lot of rain would be enough for a whole hillside to fall off on a place where there’s children at,” McComb said.
Right now school officials don’t know whether they will have to delay the start of school because of the damage.

Pike County man dies after driving into sinkhole
Posted: Jul 19, 2015 4:55 PM EDT
PIKE COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) -
A Pike County man died early Sunday morning after his vehicle drove directly into a sinkhole following a road collapse.
Pike County Sheriff Paul Petty says they responded to a single vehicle crash on County Highway 2, 1.5 miles east of New Salem. Petty says emergency personnel found an Illinois Rural Electric Cooperative work truck, which had responded due to power outages during a storm.
Petty says it was believed the roadway had collapsed above a culvert running directly under the road. Heavy rains weakened the structured. He says the vehicle drove directly into the road collapse. The roadway, which is twenty-two feet wide, collapsed and sunk directly below, which created a hole over twenty feet long and the entire width of the roadway.
The driver of the vehicle, Robert W. Moss, 52, of Pittsfield, was pronounced dead at the scene and later taken to Niebur Funeral Home.
REA released a statement, saying in the dark rain, Moss likely never saw what was coming.
Petty believes the crash happened sometime between 5am and 6am Sunday morning. He says the road is closed and will likely be closed for several weeks for repair.

BACKHOE GETS STUCK OVER LARGE SINKHOLE IN ROSELAND
http://abc7chicago.com/news/backhoe-stuck-in-large-sinkhole-in-fern...
CHICAGO (WLS) -- A backhoe got stuck over a large sinkhole in the Roseland neighborhood on Chicago's Far South Side.
The Chicago Water Dept. said they were called to the area Wednesday afternoon for a sewer cave-in. The backhoe was attempting to temporarily cover a hole in 103rd St. with a metal plate when more of the street gave way.
The driver was able to exit the backhoe safely. Residents said they noticed the road had a problem weeks ago.
"I noticed a little dip in the street right here," says Cunard Buchanon. "At first it was a small dip, then throughout the first week it was spreading it a bit, getting a little bit wider like a bowl. Today, I'm driving my cousin to day camp, we drove over it, I'm like, this is gonna open up today."
On Wednesday night, a crane gently lifted the backhoe off the hole and revealed the problem - a broken sewer main. Water department officials said the sewer main is made out of brick and was built in 1898.
"We're targeting all of the old infrastructure, the old sewer mains, the old water mains and we're replacing them," said Dep. Cmsr. Dwayne Hightower, Dept. of Water Management.

Crane to remove drill rig from Citrus sinkhole
http://www.baynews9.com/content/news/baynews9/news/article.html/con...
Drilling a well outside a Citrus County home wasn’t supposed to form huge sinkhole swallowing the drilling rig, but that’s exactly what happened Thursday.
“Things were going pretty good then the ground just gave away,” said neighbor Judd Garvin.
Judd Garvin who lives near the home saw it happen right before his eyes yesterday. On Friday, he and a group of neighbors get to watch a 250-ton crane pull the now bent drill rig out of the 30-feet-deep hole.
But crews say it won’t be an easy hook.
“The nature of the lift is rather challenging -- the drill rig itself is around 56,000 pounds,” said VP of Citrus Well Drilling Inc., Todd Townsend.
Crews fear the crane will also sink due to the weight which is why crews are laying blocks on the ground as padding underneath it.
Citrus Well Drilling says a hole of that size is a rare occurrence.
“We’ve been drilling for 40 years, this is the second one we’ve experienced with this size and magnitude,” said Townsend.
Crews plan to be on scene for several more hours working on making sure they pull the rig out safely.

The Dead Sea is shrinking! Roads, caravans and power lines are swallowed up by giant sinkholes that are appearing as waters vanish from Israeli shores
Roads, caravans and power lines are being swallowed up by giant sinkholes appearing at a rapid rate because the Dead Sea is shrinking from Israeli shores in a man-made phenomenon.
Hundreds of sinkholes, some the size of a basketball court and some two storeys deep, are wreaking havoc by devouring land where the shoreline once stood.
Waters are vanishing at a rate of more than one metre a year and the problem is set to get worse without action on an international scale.
Scroll down for video
Worrying phenomenon: Hundreds of sinkholes, some the size of a basketball court and some two storeys deep, are wreaking havoc by devouring land where the Israeli shoreline once stood. It is happening because the Dead Sea is shrinking at a rapid rate
Ongoing problem: Once a rarity, hundreds of new sinkholes are appearing every year, and the rate is expected to rise. Officials have not come up with a figure for the extent of the damage, but power lines have been downed and caravans and bungalows swallowed
Isolated: The main reason the sea is shrinking is because its natural water sources, which flow south through the Jordan river valley from Syria and Lebanon, have been diverted for farming and drinking water along the way. Pictured is a utility pole standing in the Dead Sea

Giant Sinkhole Engulfs New York City Intersection (Aug 4)
Dramatic images show the gaping hole in the corner of 64th Street and 5th Avenue, located just a short block away from the I-278, also known as the Gowanus Expressway, in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood.
The crater appeared shortly after 7:00am on Tuesday. There were no injuries.
“There were cars on it just minutes before,” Frank Bowman, whose rooftop surveillance camera captured the cave-in, told WCBS radio. “There was no warning, this thing just happened quick.”
Fire department and utility crews are at the site, securing the area and attempting to reconnect the severed utility lines, local media report. Police have blocked 5th Avenue, the area’s busiest road. The crater, measuring 20 feet (six meters) deep and 20 feet across, has become a neighborhood attraction.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” one man told WCBS reporters. “This is really crazy.”

School Bus With Special Needs Students Gets Trapped In Sinkhole In The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A school bus transporting special needs children got stuck in a sinkhole in the Bronx late Thursday afternoon.
As CBS2’s Jessica Schneider reported, the bus was traveling down the street down Creston Avenue toward East Burnside Avenue, in the Tremont section of the Bronx around 3 p.m.
The bus was taking special needs students to camp, officials said.
The bus went over what was then a small pothole, and ended up plummeting into what became an enormous sinkhole.
The ground opened underneath the bus to something that was about 10 feet long and 6 feet wide.
Several special needs students were on board when the incident happened. They all got off the bus safely and none were injured.
But the students’ parents rushed out to the scene and were startled by what they saw. Many were concerned.
“Very, very scary. The bus driver told me she almost fainted,” parent Wale Woade said.
The scene unfolded without warning. Department of Environmental Protection
officials said nothing had been reported as wrong with the stretch of Creston Avenue where the accident happened.
City crews finally pulled the bus out of the sinkhole early Thursday evening. Traffic
on Creston Avenue was still blocked off near the scene.
Crews were tearing up the street on Thursday night, and checking the water main directly below to see if any leak may have triggered the road collapse.
“There is a water main under there and part of our excavation is to determine what is going on under there. Whether or not there’s a leak, so that’s why we’re excavating to figure out the source of the problem,” said Eric Landau, associate commissioner the DEP.
The school bus operator was examined by paramedics and was reportedly doing fine late Thursday, CBS2’s Schneider reported.
