"Stretch zones primarily experience sinking ground, as the support in the rock strata is stretched thin. Thus, buildings implode and gas and water mains break." ZetaTalk
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What happens to rock layers under a diagonal pull, or being pulled apart? As can be seen during recent years, this has resulted in derailing trains, sinkholes suddenly appearing, gas and water main breaks, torn roadways and separating bridges. Despite the effect on man, crawling about on the surface of what they assume to be terra firma, these changes are superficial. When the pulling starts, weak points break and thereafter the plumbing and roadways hold, giving the impression that the pulling has stopped, but this is misleading. The North American continent is giving evidence that its rock layers are separating from each other, and sliding sideways in a diagonal, thus exposing portions of these layers to vent into the air above. If rock is being stressed, then where are the earthquake predictors giving evidence of this, the frantic animals, the static on the radio, the earthquake swarms? Rock in the stretch zone, pulling apart rather than compressing, does not emit the particles flows that animals and radios sense, nor register on instruments are tension and release quakes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We have repeatedly stated that the Earth changes will not diminish, but will increase going into the pole shift.
This is not a lineal matter, as the closer Planet X comes to Earth, an inevitable path, the more the torque effect and the polar wobble where the N Pole of Earth is pushed away violently on a daily basis, occur. The wobble will become more pronounced, more violent. The plates are tugged back West of the Atlantic, pulled forward East of the Atlantic, during the daily rotation of the Earth. The North American continent is allowed to roll East during rotation while the S Pole is pulled West, creating the diagonal pull likely to trigger the New Madrid fault line into an adjustment, and soon. The N Pole is pushed away and allowed to bounce back, daily, as the Earth rotates, a wobble that puts stress on all fault lines when the plates are suddenly in motion, and suddenly stopped!
"As there is no other explanation for the effect on the stretch zone, lacking any earthquakes to blame, and as these stretch zone accidents will continue to emerge, and with ferocity, this is a certain clue to those on the fence, that the influence of Planet X is the cause. Or is it Global Warming?"
ZetaTalk Chat Q&A for April 13, 2013
"Sinkholes almost invariably form in areas subject to karst limestone cavern formation. Underground water flows eat away the limestone leaving vast caverns and caves, which often give scant indication above ground that a cavern lies below. Karst limestone rock formations have been mapped and are known, however, but since one never knows just where a cavern might have formed, this provides little help in predicting just where a sinkhole might form. Sinkholes open up when the rock is fractured due to stress from being in the stretch zone, from the bending of a plate, or due to torsion."

Gulp: The moment giant Florida sinkhole swallows car whole
A sinkhole has swallowed a car in Florida and caused six homes to be evacuated after appearing on a driveway yesterday morning.
The hole was barely 4ft wide by 4ft deep when fire crews arrived at the mobile home in Holiday, Florida, at around 10.45am - but by 11 am it had grown to 10ft by 10ft.
The family living at 1728 Torch St, where the hole opened up, have been told their house will be condemned - while five neighbouring families were also evacuated.

Giant sinkhole swallows up old mine in Russia's Urals
November 20, 2014
A sinkhole 20 by 30 meters (65 by 98 feet) in size has been found near a Uralkali mine in Russia's Perm region. While the company says the development is of no further threat, locals fear the whole nearby town could go underground.
The sinkhole was first discovered by Uralkali's Solikamsk-2 mine workers on November 18. According to local emergency services, it's located some two miles from the mine itself, in an old abandoned mine.

Speculation on the cause of this event is unlikely to be resolved, as the establishment does not want the public to focus on an unstable footing. The Eurasian Plate is solid, though under stretch stress from one end to the other, from Europe to the shores of China. We have predicted a new seaway

ripping up toward the Ural Mountains, though this rip will not occur until the hour of the Pole Shift. The seaway will rip along the western border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and aim toward the low lands just to the east of the Ural Mountains. This region has ripped before, as the geology shows.
What happens when long frozen land, formerly tropical so that trapped vegetation has evolved into methane gas, gets stretched? Methane releases, and being lighter than air, rises. A spark of any kind will light this highly flammable gas. Air layers passing over one another are sufficient to spark this, as this is what causes lightning to spark. A slight difference in the electrical charge is all that is required. We have from the start of ZetaTalk stated that Tunguska
http://www.zetatalk.com/science/s57.htm
was a methane explosion, the frozen ground opened by an earthquake and the rising methane lit by lightning. The explosion traveled back along the methane path to the ground, in Tunguska, thus the basis of the myth that a meteor was the cause.

Third sinkhole swallows car in Florida neighbourhood
A third hole has formed in in the driveway of a Tampa Bay-area neighbourhood, swallowing a car to its bumper.
Pasco County spokesman Doug Tobin said the new hole opened on Saturday in the front yard of a resident’s home. It was about 6ft deep and grew about 10ft wide. The resident was temporarily relocating.
Two other holes formed earlier this week, about a quarter of a mile away. Engineers have yet to confirm that the depressions are sinkholes.
The first hole grew to 10ft wide and 10ft deep. A mobile home at the brink of that hole was condemned. Five other homes were evacuated.
Tobin said work had been suspended on a nearby sewer lift station, due to the subsurface activity.

Woman swallowed by Springvale sinkhole
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/woman-swallowed-by-springvale-sin...
A woman has collapsed at her home just hours after being pulled from a three-metre deep sinkhole in Melbourne's south-east on Tuesday.
Christina Beaumont, 52, was hanging out washing in the backyard of an Olympic Avenue property in Springvale South when the sinkhole opened up beneath her shortly after 11.30am.
She fell into deep underground water and was forced to tread water to prevent more mud collapsing around her.
The mother-of-six was trapped in the hole for more than 20 minutes before a neighbour heard her cries for help and called triple-0 about 12.10pm.
Firefighters used ropes to help Ms Beaumont climb out of the hole. She was rescued about 12.30pm.
Ms Beaumont's daughter Melissa said her mother collapsed soon after returning home.

Sinkhole appears in yet another road
http://www.getbucks.co.uk/news/local-news/sinkhole-appears-yet-anot...
People were shocked when they saw these holes in the ground, in yet another case of a sinkhole swallowing up the ground.
The sinkhole appeared in Wooster Road , Beaconsfield.
It is not the first, with others appearing in Cherry Tree Road last week and in May one appeared in Holtspur Top Lane .
Work has just finished on the latter, but the investigation is ongoing at Cherry Tree Road.
A spokesman for Transport for Bucks said a team has visited Wooster Road today and placed barriers and cones around the hole.
He said: "Its specialist contractor will also be investigating the site today to determine the extent of the hole and the appropriate remedy."
Reportedly the sinkhole is 'very close' to a house, with a digger parked nearby.
Sinkholes have also appeared in Gerrards Cross in a garden , and on a drive in Walters Ash swallowing up a car.

Massive Sinkhole Opens on Washington Heights Street
http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20141201/washington-heights/massive...
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A huge sinkhole opened up on West 158th Street Monday morning, leading a garbage truck to become stuck in the gaping hole and closing the street to traffic, according to locals and police.
It was unclear what caused the sinkhole, located near the corner of Edgecombe Avenue, though it managed to partially swallow a Department of Sanitation truck, a witness and police source said.
“They pulled a garbage truck out,” said Earl Green, 40, who works at a building close to the intersection. “That’s crazy.”
A police source confirmed that a truck belonging to the Sanitation Department had gotten stuck, but had since been freed. No injuries were reported.
As of Monday afternoon, West 158th Street was closed to traffic between Edgecombe and St. Nicholas avenues.
A spokesman for the Department of Environmental Protection, which is normally responsible for repairing sinkholes, said an investigation at the site revealed a small break in the sewer line that runs beneath the road. Temporary repairs, including rebuilding the roadway, are currenlty under way at the site, he said.

2 sinkholes open up on San Francisco streets during rainstorm
http://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/2-sinkholes-open-up-on-S...
A parched Bay Area may need the rain, but Wednesday’s storm caused power outages, trapped three cars in a flooded highway underpass, flooded more than a dozen homes, and triggered sinkholes, including a growing 15-by-15-foot crater at a San Francisco intersection.
That sinkhole at Sixth Avenue and Lake Street in the Richmond District involved a broken 8-inch water main, but it’s unclear if the pipe burst before or after the roadway collapsed, said Tyrone Jue, a spokesman for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.
It’s possible a sewer line also under the roadway could have had a hole in it, causing sand to drain into the sewer line “like an hourglass,” leaving nothing to support the roadbed, Jue said.
“We’re unclear on the sequence of events” because it was taking crews several hours to get the water pipe shut off so they could examine the damage. They were still working on it around noon, he said.
The street there will be closed there indefinitely, with the repair time unknown. A second sinkhole also appeared along a curb in the Castro.
A 10 foot wide sinkhole at 6th and Lake Streets in the Richmond District of San Francisco appeared early Wednesday morning, Dec. 3, 2014. Biggest storm in years hits Bay Area hard
In the Richmond, the intersection was roped off Wednesday morning with yellow police tape and the hole surrounded by about 20 orange cones. Four backhoes and four PG&E maintenance trucks were at the scene, as crews worked through off-and-on rain jack hammering an additional hole farther away, apparently to access the pipe, which was still gushing water at 11 a.m.
Donna Delauter, 57, who lives on a corner of the intersection, said the sinkhole started off much smaller.
“It has just grown and grown,” Delauter said. “As a property owner and tax payer for the last 35 years, I wonder how this could happen all over the city. It’s shocking. It’s very disconcerting to see a hole that size. More than several cars can fit inside. I’d like to have confidence that the city can address this, especially since I live so close.”

The hole first appeared on 5 December but is continuing to grow.
Ms Jenkins added: "The only access to our property has been across our neighbour's garden.

Massive road collapse shuts down part of downtown Bangor
4:53 p.m. EST December 30, 2014
BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police had to block off a section of Hammond Street in downtown Bangor because of a big sinkhole that opened up overnight, Tuesday.
The hole is located around 73 Hammond St., which is near the U.S. Post Office as well as The Fiddlehead restaurant and Massimos Cucina Italiana.
The hole is approximately 15-to-30 feet wide and eight feet deep, Bangor Public Works officials said.
Public Works officials said the collapse was caused by a sewage pipe that gave way. That pipe could date back all the way to the 1800s.
"They're old sewers, and just like anything they don't last forever," Public Works Director Dana Wardwell said. "They get a defect in them, and when you get rain and frost and all the elements working against it, we sometimes have these."
The collapse drew a lot of attention, with people stopping to look into it and snap pictures.
"I had to post it on Facebook, show it to my friends," onlooker Charles Daniel said. "They didn't believe me when I said there was a big hole in downtown Bangor."
Drivers are being asked to stay away from the area until further notice.
Bangor residents started a conversation on Twitter parodying the hole using the hashtag #Bangorsinkhole.

Horse's Rescue From Florida Sinkhole
A horse that had been put out to pasture had to be rescued when a sinkhole opened up in the Florida pasture, trapping him.
Nate, a 30-year-old horse, was stuck in the hole for about three hours last Friday before personnel from the fire department in Oxford, Florida, arrived to put straps and harnesses around him and hauled him out.
"He was in the 'retirement pasture,' and we believe the ground just collapsed underneath him," Maryann Marsh, co-owner of TMMA Farms told ABC News. "He was lucky enough to almost be in a sitting position in the hole, which is why he didn’t break any legs."
PHOTO: Owner Maryann Marsh tries to comfort Nate the horse once he was found in a sinkhole.
Marsh said she recruited a handful of neighbors to try to pull Nate free, but the effort failed, partly because the horse's feet had fallen asleep. Marsh called the 9-1-1, which brought the help of the fire department. With the additional bodies and straps, Nate was yanked free.
Nate is one of three horses on the alpaca farm, including his "best friend" Hershey, a retired party pony, and more than 40 alpacas.
Marsh said Nate is doing "very well," and just had a back swollen leg.
"[Hershey] was very concerned through the whole process," Marsh said.

Sinkhole Closes South Omaha Street
http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/Sinkhole-Closes-Street-287370331...
There is a large sinkhole in the middle of the street at 20th & Pierce in Omaha.
Leslie Mosley tells WOWT 6 News she heard a loud noise about 1 p.m. Thursday. When she stepped outside, there it was.
According to Omaha Public Works, a city employee noticed the ground beginning to sink on Tuesday and alerted the city. At that point, barricades were put up to prevent anyone from driving over the area.
Two days later the hole opened.
When crews investigated on Tuesday they saw an over 100 year old manhole had failed, causing water to leak underneath the pavement and wash away the dirt. With nothing to hold up the road, the pavement collapsed.
"Yesterday I just heard a loud crash like a car accident, looked out the window, there was no cars, but I did see a huge hole in the street," Mosley said. "All I could say was, 'Oh my God, oh my God' as I was putting on clothes to come take pictures."
The city is bringing in a contractor to help fix the nearly 30 foot deep hole. The city estimates it will be fixed in about a month.

Giant sink hole appears just feet from front door of elderly couple's £210,000 bungalow
An elderly couple fear their £210,000 bungalow could be swallowed up after a giant sink hole appeared in their front garden.
Great-grandparents David Mason, 77, and his wife Sylvia, 75, first spotted a small hole by the kerb outside their home on December 30 but thought it was caused by a lorry.
But the hole expanded at a 'staggering' speed and now measures 16ft by 12ft and is only a few feet away from their front door.
Mr Mason, who lives at the property in Cottingham, Northamptonshire, said today: 'I am genuinely concerned about the safety of our property because the hole is creeping nearer our front door almost by the hour.
'My wife is disabled after having a stroke a few years ago and this is causing more worry for her because if we have to get out we don't know where we'll go.
'The speed of it happening has been quite staggering.'
Mr Mason, who ran a motorcycle repair business before he retired, added: 'It got progressively worse, so I got the police out and they put a temporary barrier around it.
'They must have contacted someone because later that night someone came out to put a more permanent enclosure around the hole.
'It was amazing how rapidly it escalated. We just sat and watched it happen in front of our eyes.'

Lafayette Colorado sinkhole nearly swallows SUV; repair could take months - January 12
LAFAYETTE — It could take months for crews to repair a sinkhole that opened above an old mine shaft on East Cleveland Street early Monday morning, nearly swallowing a SUV whole.
The sinkhole opened in the pre-dawn hours on East Cleveland between between Foote and Burlington avenues, above what used to be the main shaft of the Simpson coal mine — leaving a 15-foot-deep hole filled with water and debris in the middle of the street.
A car and its driver were perilously close to also ending up at the bottom of the sinkhole. The man told police he was driving through what he thought was a pothole at 5 a.m. Monday when he felt the asphalt suddenly "collapse around him," according to Debbie Wilmot, a spokeswoman with the city of Lafayette.
Police responded to the scene and stabilized the vehicle long enough for the driver to get out without any injury. The SUV was then towed from its precarious perch.
Don Kinney lives just yards from the hole and said he was awakened by a loud "thump."
"I came out to look at it and thought I was dreaming," Kinney said of the gaping hole in the street. "I've lived here 30 years and it's the first time I've seen this."
Wilmot said the sinkhole opened up over the main shaft of the old Simpson mine, which was shut down 88 years ago. She said the shaft had been filled in, but it appears recent rains had caused the fill to erode away.
"The combination of weather and conditions were just right for it to happen at this point," Wilmot said. "It was not any one overarching event that caused it."

Another Huge Sinkhole in SE China Nearly Swallows Car (Jan 15)
Luckily, he was able to make a dramatic, last-gasp exit from the vehicle.
He said: "I had just slowed down because there was a bit of a queue and leaned in to switch the radio on.
"When I leaned back I felt a vibration that I thought was something to do with the speakers at first.
"When the car started to move I stupidly pulled on the handbrake thinking I was rolling backwards, but then I realised I was the tipping over to the side."
Looking out the window, Sheng saw a huge hole appearing in the road as the tarmac vanished into the ground.
Acting instinctively, he crashed open the door and managed to scramble out before the car tipped inside.
He said: "I dread to think what would have happened if the traffic had been speeding along at the usual rate. It's pretty busy at all times of day here."
It is not the first time a huge sinkhole has appeared under a road or a building in Guangzhou.

Sinkhole Swallows Snow Plow in New Jersey (Feb 17)
Residents on Wordsworth Lane noticed they lost water last night, but were not immediately notified of the water main break.
Although her daughter Caitlin heard a loud crash this morning, Cindy Viestich was caught off guard when the plow driver knocked on her door.
The accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. right in front of her home, and she said the driver climbed out of the truck's cab inside the wide sinkhole and called 911 from her home.
Inside the deep sinkhole, that extends under the roadway like a cavern, Vielstich said water was gushing under the truck before being shut off.
The driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and by 8:30 a.m. heavy duty tow trucks arrived at the scene.
At 1:30 p.m., tow truck operators from Stew's Auto Body in Washington were still on the scene, attempting to remove the truck from the hole with two machines working at once to pull the truck up and out, and just before 2 p.m. the truck was finally freed.
Elizabeth Town Gas, Warren County Hazmat and Lopatcong Township fire and EMS crews were all on standby at the scene, prepared for the worst.
At this time, residents who live directly near the sinkhole have been advised to leave their cars in their driveways and stay home.

11 Killed, 30 Injured in N Korean Sinkhole Collapse (Feb 18)
The workers had been mobilized to plow at the Jonghap Farm in Yanggang province, along the border with China.
Due to low temperatures during the winter, much of the earth had been turned to ice, and the workers—from the Baek-du Youth Team, and the Baek-am Tile Works and Rural Construction Unit—had been ordered to dig until they found unfrozen soil, the source said.
However, a sinkhole had developed beneath the ice and when the workers pierced through the frozen layer of soil, the ground collapsed, burying them alive.
Four tractors had been deployed for four days as part of the rescue effort.
It was unclear how the sinkhole formed.

More than 380 people evacuated in Naples after enormous sinkhole opens up over a SEWER
PUBLISHED: 11:01 EST, 22 February 2015 | UPDATED: 12:21 EST, 22 February 2015
Residents in Naples, Italy woke up this morning to a massive sinkhole that opened up in the middle of a street.
Officials say the sinkhole started off as a depression in the road and is most likely caused by a broken sewer.
'It was 5 this morning when I heard a huge thud. I looked out and saw the road collapse and swallow a car,' a woman who lives in a neighboring apartment told Il Mattino.
A sinkhole opened up in the middle of a street in Naples, Italy early Sunday morning. It's believed that a broken sewer caused the sinkhole
None of the surrounding buildings showed sign of damage, but nonetheless the four condominiums surrounding the crater were evacuated on Sunday with city officials scrambling to find accommodations for the 380 displaced locals.
'We are in contact with hotel facilities in the area in order to accommodate everyone and try to reduce as far as possible, the inconvenience to citizens,' an official said.
David Lezzi, the operations manager of the site, said crews will first figure out the extent of the hole before trying to stabilize it with concrete.
Reports did not say when residents might be able to return to their homes. The area has been cordoned off.
Next steps: Engineers plan to stabilize the sinkhole by filling it with concrete. It's unclear when the evacuated families will be able to return to their homes

Are Siberia's mysterious craters caused by climate change? Scientists find four new enormous holes in northern Russia
Four new mysterious giant craters have appeared in the Siberian in northern Russia, sparking fears that global warming may be causing gas to erupt from underground.
Scientists spotted the new holes, along with dozens of other smaller ones, in the same area as three other enormous craters that were spotted on the Yamal Peninsula last year.
The craters are thought to be caused by of gas from the permafrost as rising rising temperatures causes the frozen soil to melt.
Scroll down for video
Unexplained: The first of the new craters discovered, named B1 (pictured above), shows signs of an huge eruption of gas
It has sparked fears that the craters could become more common as climate change continues to warm and led to warnings that the area is facing a looming natural disaster.
This map shows the location of the new craters (labelled B1-4) along with the previously discovered holes marked with black dots

Are you SURE that's not a tunnel? Massive sinkhole opens up just yards from fence of category C prison - but officials insist there's no chance of a breakout
A massive sinkhole has opened up just yards from the fence of a prison - but officials insist there is no chance of any inmates escaping.
The hole first appeared just outside the walls of HMP The Mount in Bovingdon, Hertforshire in January.
Staff at the 770-capacity prison filled the sinkhole with soil and concrete - but it re-emerged and is now believed to be about 6ft wide and 15ft deep.
'There is some concern that more could appear as that land has already been earmarked for a housing development.'
The hole comes after a similar crater opened up in nearby Hemel Hempstead, Hertforshire, last February.

Sinkhole opens up at Fort Campbell
http://www.wsmv.com/story/28397120/sinkhole-opens-up-at-fort-campbell
A sinkhole forced soldiers at Fort Campbell to take evasive maneuvers to get around post.
The 20-by-20 hole opened up on Monday on the corner of Wickham Avenue and 101st Road Cole Park Commons.
Geologist Kallina Dunkle with Austin Peay State University believes the snow and ice followed by rain caused the sinkhole.
Dunkle said sinkholes are fairly common in Tennessee, particularly in Clarksville where there is a lot of limestone. Dozens of sinkholes have opened up on Austin Peay's campus over the past decade.
"We can imagine where typically a series of caves or systems that might be connected, and so when all that soil starts to get washed out into the underlying system, you end up with a depression at the top," Dunkle said.
Last spring, construction crews discovered a relatively small sinkhole near Austin Peay's football field. The sinkhole expanded and was nearly 60 feet deep.

Mysterious Giant Crater-like Structures Found near New-Zealand
http://www.sci-news.com/othersciences/geophysics/article00985.html
A multinational team of researchers led by marine geophysicist Dr Bryan Davy from GNS Science has found what may be the world’s biggest pockmarks on the seafloor about 310 miles east of Christchurch, New Zealand.
Three giant pockmarks – crater-like structures on the seabed – found by the team are possibly twice the size of the largest pockmarks ever recorded.
Scientists believe they are the ancient remnants of vigorous degassing from under the seafloor into the ocean. The structures (the largest being 6.8 miles by 3.7 miles in diameter and 328 feet deep) are at water depths of about 0.6 miles and there is currently no sign of gas being emitted from them.
The team investigated the larger seafloor structures on the German research ship Sonne. Their aim was to determine the geological origin of the structures, which were first noted in 2007.
“Some of the pockmarks are huge compared to similar structures observed elsewhere in the world,” Dr Davy said. “It’s most unusual for scientists to encounter seafloor structures of this size and complexity. They are big enough to enclose the Wellington city urban area, or lower Manhattan.”
The geological processes that led to the formation of the larger structures were still unclear.
“There were clear indications in seismic reflection records of gas pockets and fluid flow structures in the deeper sediments underneath the pockmarks,” explained Dr Joerg Bialas from GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany.
“The pockmark features are covered by complex layers of more recent sediment. Gas release from the larger pockmarks may have been sudden and possibly even violent, with a massive volume being expelled into the ocean and atmosphere within hours or days,” he said.
Scientists cannot rule out volcanic activity, directly or indirectly, having generated the release of gas. Another possibility is the release of sub-seafloor hydrocarbon gas through a layer of gas hydrate deposits. This would have coincided with drops in sea level of about 328 feet during Ice Ages and subsequent warming of sea temperatures.
“The apparent absence of methane in the shallow sediment and water column at the giant pockmark area was a surprise,” said Dr Ingo Klaucke from GEOMAR and Dr Richard Coffin from the US Naval Research Laboratory.
“While there was no sign of active gas systems in the larger pockmarks, the smaller ones in shallower water appeared to have been sporadically active,” said gas hydrate scientist Dr Ingo Pecher from the University of Auckland. “Gas escape could be occurring from the smaller pockmarks during glacial intervals every 20,000 or 100,000 years.”
“Methane is a potent greenhouse gas and the escape of big volumes would have significant implications for climate change and ocean acidification,” he concluded.

Huge sink hole forces closure of road for 'several weeks'
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/huge-sink-hole-forces-closure-...
The crevasse formed after a sewer collapsed at the junction of the A565 (Cambridge Road) and the A5267 (Preston New Road) in Churchtown.
The hole is which is 15ft by 10ft, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The sewer collapse caused delays for drivers heading through the village, and motorists commuting from Southport to Preston.
Engineers were on site all day today using tankers to pump water from the hole.
United Utilities spokesman John Martin said: “We’ve now managed to pump the majority of water away which was escaping from the collapsed sewer.
“This has allowed us to CCTV the sewer pipe which has confirmed the large hole in the road was a result of the sewer collapsing underneath.”

Massive Sinkholes Break Open As Dead Sea Shrivels
http://abcnews.go.com/International/massive-sinkholes-break-open-de...
There are more than 3,000 sinkholes on the banks of the Dead Sea -- and they're multiplying exponentially, according to environmentalists, as the body of water dries up.
"It's nature's revenge," said Gidon Bromberg, the Israeli Director at EcoPeace Middle East, an organization that brings together Jordanian, Palestinian and Israeli environmentalists to protect their shared environmental heritage.
"These sinkholes are a direct result of the inappropriate mismanagement of water resources in the region."
More than 1,400 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest point on land. The first sinkhole was spotted in the 1980s. By 1990, there were 40, and 15 years later new chasms are breaking open every day.
"They could develop overnight. Or over time," Bromberg said. "Making them unpredictable. And very dangerous."

The Durban-bound portion of the road near the Peter Brown offramp has been repaired numerous times, but it collapsed when a bus travelling over the sunken area collided with a truck in the early hours of Thursday.
WBHO engineer Jacques Grobler, who has been contracted to repair the sinkhole, said he was hoping to fix the portion of road before the Easter weekend.
“We had a machine on site this morning to start excavating the bottom of the sinkhole and to investigate the problem.”
He said once they identified the cause of the collapse, they would build up the hole layer by layer and “try to repair it before the Easter weekend”.
Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said the hole was 2.4 metres deep and would easily swallow the nose end of a car.

The repairs – expected to take a day or two – will now last well into next week, and the street closures have expanded as well.
The good news is the sinkhole you see behind me here on Sargeant Street has been stabilized – meaning it’s not growing any larger.
However, the bad news is the project to repair it has grown much larger and now not only is this block of Sargeant closed to traffic, but so is one lane of High Street.

Thames Water and Sevenoaks District Council investigate sink hole which opened up in Oliver Road, Swanley
http://www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/news/11875916.ANOTHER_sinkhole_o...
The massive void, north Kent's fifth in a year, appeared in Oliver Road in the early hours of Thursday morning, measuring five or six metres in diameter and around three metres deep.
Two sheds fell into the hole, one of which contained, among other things, a mobility scooter - the only means of independence for 65-year-old Carole Kent, who is disabled.
The root of the problem is thought to be a leaking drainage pipe, which resulted in water saturating the ground, causing it to give way.
Despite seeking help from Sevenoaks District Council, Thames Water and the Environment Agency, Mrs Kent and her elderly neighbours, 78-year-old Joseph Hutchens and wife Barbara, 75, have not been able to get the assistance they need.

Gateway to hell? Chinese villagers horrified to find mysterious 3ft-wide hole spewing fire from local hillside
A mysterious sinkhole spewing fire and incredible heat has appeared in a Chinese hillside.
Geologists and media have flocked to the desolate mountain on the outskirts of Urumqi, in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in north-western China, since it appeared a few weeks ago.
The hole appeared recently after locals noticed the ground nearby getting warmer
The heat blasting from the 'ring of fire' has been measured at 792C (1457F) from two metres away, reports People's Daily Online, and is so intense that experts can't get close enough to determine how deep the hole is.
Video footage of the 3ft-wide hole shows locals igniting branches and grass by pushing it to the rim.
Some Chinese internet users have branded it a 'gateway to hell' after viewing the pictures.
Experts can't get close enough to determine how deep the mysterious hole is
Locals told Chinese media that they had noticed the ground in the area had been warm underfoot for some time.
The hill is not in a volcanic area, and experts from Xinjiang Meitian Geological Bureau think the hole is caused by the layer of spontaneously combusted coal underneath the ground, which leads the surface layer to collapse.
‘The phenomenon has existed in the area for a few decades,’ Huang Wei, an engineer from the bureau told China Central TV Station.
He added that smoke often comes from under the ground on this hill in the spring and autumn.
Chen Long, a supervisor from Xinjiang Meitian Fire Engineering Bureau, said there used to be more than a dozen of small coal mines in the area in the 1970s.
‘Primitive mining and extinguishing techniques caused coal to burn deep under the ground,’ said Mr Chen in the same interview.
‘Operators didn’t seal the mines properly after business discontinued and this leads the underground fire to burn towards the surface of the earth.’
The local authorities have started drawing plans to put out the underground fire.

Giant rabbit hole? Secret tunnel? Family finds deep 'hidden' hole in garden
This is not a rabbit hole or a tunnel leading to secret treasure, as Steven Kempster’s children had hoped.
But it is a six-foot deep hole that had previously been undiscovered in the communal gardens at flats in Leavesden. (Hertfordshire UK)
Mr Kempster’s daughter Ellie was playing in the garden on Good Friday when he noticed the ground she was jumping on was moving beneath her.
The 37-year-old ushered Ellie out of the way and bounced on the patch himself before the ground gave way, leaving his foot dangling through a gap above the hole.
Mr Kempster said: "It’s the same size as a house so I’m very relieved and feel fortunate that none of the children fell through it.
"I got the kids away and I called a neighbour out to cordon it off but my first reaction was ‘that could have been my little girl’.
"I was more scared for them - had they fallen down there, not only would we need the fire brigade to get them out as it is so deep but the children could have been seriously injured.
"It’s quite frightening thinking about what could have happened and not knowing how long it has been there. Everyone is shocked."
Mr Kempster said flat owners and tenants were now concerned about whether any other holes would be discovered in the area.

New giant crater appears in Siberia
20 April 2015
Subsidence from old coal mine a possible cause of latest mystery hole.
The latest crater to appear in Siberia measures around 20 metres in diameter and around 25-to-30 metres in depth. Its sudden appearance in recent days close to Novokuznetsk region is around 3,500 kilometres from other craters found in Arctic Russia in recent months.
Initial theories suggest mining subsidence caused the collapse, but locals remain concerned about methane gas in the disused shafts. They have been told to avoid fires amid concern over methane leaks.
The hole was spotted by Rinat Sharifullin, whose house is 100 metres away. He immediately called to the Emergency Ministry. The gaping crevice was fenced and specialists have now filled it using soil from an adjacent hill.
Despite this, the crater is causing concern among locals.
Rinat's wife Natalia said: 'We need to move from here. Under our garden are mines, too, and the site nearby was once the entrance to a mine. In the 1990s it was closed and the ground was filled in.'
There has been no comment from the Emergencies Ministry or the regional government on the cause of the hole.
Apparently, another smaller hole is nearby which was filled with water.
Other holes have received worldwide attention after appearing in the Yamal region of northern Siberia, with another in a remote location in Krasnoyarsk region, near the Taimyr peninsula.
In February, The Siberian Times revealed the existence of four new mysterious 'giant craters', and many smaller ones, in these areas, sparking fears over a looming natural disaster in the Arctic. Their cause is seen as methane released from melting permafrost but this is not yet confirmed by scientists.
Observation from space revealed the dramatic mushrooming of the holes, believed to be caused by methane gas eruptions in melting permafrost due to climate change, scientists revealed today. A leading Russian expert sounded an alert over safety because one new Siberian crater, surrounded by at least 20 'baby holes', is just six miles from a major gas production plant.
He predicts up to 30 more are waiting to be discovered. Scientsts are still baffled by the exact processes causing the craters and respected Moscow expert Professor Vasily Bogoyavlensky today called for 'urgent' investigation of the new phenomenon amid safety fears.

FDNY ‘rescues’ fire truck stuck in 15ft deep sinkhole
http://nypost.com/2015/04/22/fdny-rescues-fire-truck-stuck-in-sinkh...
The stuck truck was parked on the street outside Brookdale Hospital in East Flatbush when a 15-foot-deep sinkhole opened up and swallowed its front right wheel around noon.
About a dozen firefighters stacked pieces of wood near the tire of the Engine Co. 257 truck to keep it from sinking deeper into Rockaway Parkway.
But one of the planks then sprang out and hit two of the emergency responders.
Both were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Puzzlingly, they were taken to Kings County Hospital instead of being treated at Brookdale. Authorities could not immediately explain why.
FDNY Chief Stephen Moro of Division 15 said it’s unclear what caused the sinkhole. “This is an odd one,” Moro said.
A few hospital workers who witnessed the incident said it was frightening.
“It’s scary because they just [repaved] this street after putting in new pipes,” said Paulie Johnson, who works in the security office at Brookdale’s Urgent Care Center. “It looks good from the surface, but we don’t know what’s underneath.”
Another hospital worker, Alicia Headley, noted, “It’s a very deep hole, and it could’ve been anyone stuck there.’’

RESIDENTS ORDERED TO EVACUATE AS COLLAPSING YARD THREATENS HOMES IN NJ
http://6abc.com/news/nj-home-at-risk-of-slipping-into-massive-hole/...
This morning engineers determined that the situation is too dangerous, and they are now asking the homeowners near the collapse site to evacuate their properties.
Geotechnical engineers from a private consulting company visited the scene on the 400 block of E. Front Street today to examine the eroding hillside that's been collapsing over the last two years, and which is now threatening two homes.
Chris and Lynne O'Dell live in one of the two homes.
Chris says, "It's finally coming to a head. So, we're almost looking forward to a decision because at least then we can move forward with a plan."
Monday's torrential rains eroded the hill further, exposing an abandoned storm sewer drain pipe that was spewing water, and may be the cause of the dramatic collapse of the hillside.
