Train derailments

Spain Experiences its Worst Train Accident in 40 Years

An increase in train derailments was one of the first symptoms of the approach of Planet X to become noticeable, being expressed even before Planet X entered the inner solar system in 2003.

Planet X was described as affecting the Earth from afar, like tugging on the edge of a spider web where the effects are felt elsewhere on the web; in this way there has been an increase in earthquakes and unpredictable weather going back years, even before Planet X entered the solar system, due to the increased swirling of the Earth’s core.

It is therefore logical that an increase in train derailments would accompany any increase in seismic activity – train tracks need to be straight and even the slightest shift to the side of a section of track would cause a train to derail.

The area most affected by train derailments is the stretch zone.  Stretch zone quakes are silent, and people are generally unaware anything is happening, although signs such as booms and trumpet sounds can occur.

This zone stretches from Western Europe across the Eurasian Plate, and also includes the South-East United States, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Red Sea and the African Rift.

In other parts of the world, shifting ground is more associated with earthquakes that people are aware of, such as the Pacific which is compressing, so authorities inspect railway tracks after any seismic activity, reducing the likelihood of accidents.

Train Derails Near South Dallas Golf Course

The incident happened around 6:25 p.m. Monday in the 3600 block of Samuel Boulevard

As many as three cars of a 14-car train derailed near a golf course in South Dallas early Monday night, Dallas Fire-Rescue officials say.

The incident happened around 6:25 p.m. Monday in the 3600 block of Samuel Boulevard near Tenison Park Golf Course, DFR said.

Only one of the 14 cars contains a hazardous material, officials said, and that car was still on the tracks.

Authorities at the derailment site stabilized the three cars that were leaning off the tracks, DFR said. The train company would send a crew to finish the job Tuesday morning.

The golf course was evacuated as a precaution, officials said, and all six lanes of Samuel Boulevard were closed from Lawnview Avenue to Tenison Parkway.

There were no injuries reported, DFR officials said.

Train derails near Franklin Street crossing in Winona

    May 22 2019

A Canadian Pacific Railroad train carrying a load of grain derailed near the Franklin Street crossing early Wednesday morning.

According to Canadian Pacific Railroad spokesperson Andrew Cummings, the train was conducting yard operations between the Main Street and Franklin Street crossings when three grain cars derailed around midnight.

“There were no injuries and no public safety issues,” he said.

Winona Police Chief Paul Bostrack said the department was notified of the accident shortly before 1 a.m. and assisted with closing the crossing.

According to police, the Franklin crossing was closed for several hours while railroad crews assessed the situation. The crossing had reopened to traffic by late morning.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.

Cummings said railroad crews will be on site conducting cleanup operations throughout the day, and the incident, which occurred on a yard track, is not expected to have any impact on mainline rail operations.

An Amtrak spokesperson confirmed there would be no delays as a result of the derailment.

At least 15 train cars carrying mostly produce derail in Wellington; cause unknown at this time

    Posted: 7:11 AM, May 28, 2019

WELLINGTON, Ohio — A massive train pileup caused roads to shutdown after a train derailed in Wellington, located in Lorain County, early Tuesday morning.

Reports of a train derailment in the area of CSX tracks near the intersection of Wheeling Avenue and Magyar Street came in at about 6:05 a.m.

When fire crews arrived, they found about 15 to 20 cars that were off the track, with one car filled with onions that was partially on fire, according to Wellington Assistant Fire Chief Bill Brown.

"It could've been a lot worse. The hazardous materials are down the line and those have not been affected," said Brown.

No injuries were reported from the derailment. Officials said all the main roads in Wellington have reopened to traffic following a brief closure to all the roads in the area.

The cause of the derailment is unknown at this time. Train crews told authorities that they were slowing down as they came into Wellington, and that's when they had an issue, according to Brown.

Wellington Chief of Police Tim Barfield said there is no threat to residents in the area and no evacuations are planned.

A state trooper on scene said there are no toxic chemicals coming from the affected train cars, but there are a lot of perishable foods such as carrots, onions and potatoes.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution and avoid the area if possible.

Green Line train derails in Bronzeville

Around 11 a.m. this morning, a Green Line “L” train derailed near the 47th Street stop, authorities said. Firefighters helped evacuate approximately 30 people off the four-car train using a hydraulic lift—with seven people transported to area hospitals, reporting minor injuries.

At around 1 p.m., the Chicago Transit Authority’s Chief Transit Officer Donald Bonds announced that shuttle services would be available between Roosevelt and the Ashland/63rd-Cottage Grove stops while Green Line service is restored, which Bonds estimated would take five to six hours.

According to Bonds, the CTA will be launching an investigation into the cause of the accident. There was track work occurring around the site of the derailment, he said, but authorities will not know if it was related until after their investigation.

    Updated 6/6/2019 6:30 p.m.

Green Line service has resumed, with trains running in both directions between Harlem and Ashland/63rd-Cottage Grove, according to the CTA’s Twitter account. There have been no updates regarding the cause of the derailment.

Union Pacific freight train derails in Taylor; none injured, officials say

A Union Pacific freight train carrying industrial sand through Williamson County derailed in Taylor, causing some Amtrak trips using the same rail line to be canceled or delayed.

Eight cars on the train derailed around 4:30 a.m., said Union Pacific Railroad spokeswoman Kristen South. The train derailed into Taylor Yard in the 100 block of East First Street in downtown Taylor.

Officials do not yet know what caused the train to jump the tracks, she said. Two crew members were on the train, but no one was injured.

Amtrak officials said their Texas Eagle Train 22 was scheduled to depart from San Antonio on Thursday, but that trip was canceled because of the freight train derailment. Texas Eagle Train 21 was to operate as a bus between San Antonio and Fort Worth, Amtrak officials said.

Boston train derails near Fenway Park before Red Sox game, sending 10 to hospital

    Published 6:07 p.m. ET June 8, 2019

BOSTON — Ten people were injured Saturday when a subway train derailed inside a tunnel near Fenway Park prior to the first game of a doubleheader between the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.

The derailment occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m. between the Fenway and Kenmore stops on the green line of the Boston train and subway system known as "The T."

Some people were carried out of the tunnel by stoke baskets, according to the Boston Fire Department, and 10 were transported to local hospitals.

The Boston Globe quoted a passenger, 19-year-old Bryan Marden, who said the train was traveling at a high rate of speed before it derailed where the subway split. He said some of the passengers who were hurt appeared to be headed to the Red Sox game and nearby Pride Parade festivities. First pitch of the Red Sox game was 1:05 p.m.

Joe Pesaturo, spokesman for MBTA, said the injuries are "not life threatening." Boston Emergency Medical Services described the injuries as "varying in nature." The Globe reported that some appeared to be serious.

Among the injured was the train's motor person, a 62-year-old man, who Peasturo said is in stable condition after being treated for a leg injury and some bumps and bruises.

Pesaturo said the cause of the derailment is under investigation and authorities will interview the motor person after he's been treated medically.

He said no structural damage to the tunnel or the overhead wire has been reported. He said the "re-railing process" is underway and that once the car is moved, the track and switch infrastructure will be inspected. He said any necessary repair work will be conducted.

No injuries after Union Pacific train derails in Hays

A Union Pacific train derailment in Hays caused some home evacuations and a few road closures around Ninth and Milner late Sunday afternoon.

“A little after 5 p.m. dispatch received a call from Union Pacific Railroad concerning a derailment they had near the intersection of Ninth and Milner,” said Kim Rupp, Hays public information officer.

“At this time there are three tanker cars off the tracks,” he said.

By 6:30 p.m. there was no immediate danger to the public, and no injuries had been reported.

“They do contain ethanol, however, there are no leaks, so there are no hazards to the public,” Rupp said.

While there was believed to be no immediate danger, some limited evacuations of housing were immediately after the derailment in the vicinity as a precautionary measure.

The fire department set up a 300-foot perimeter, but no intersections were closed by 6 p.m.

The traveling public is asked to avoid the area and observe cones and barricades while the accident is being cleared, Rupp said.

Train Derails Carrying New Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra Vehicles

    Jul 14, 2019

Like a scene out of some post-apocalyptic blockbuster, a train derailment in Lincoln County, Nevada, has spilled tons of new pickups across a lonely stretch of desert highway. Included amongst the wreckage are new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models, as well as new Jeep Gladiators.

Luckily, no injuries were reported, which is pretty amazing judging by the photos. A reported 33 train cars were involved in the incident, which were transporting the new vehicles west. In addition to causing a huge mess, the derailment also shut down a nearby road.

The incident occurred on July 10th, near the town of Caliente, Nevada, which is located approximately 30 miles west of Utah.

Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee said that it was the most spectacular mess he had ever seen. Lee also stated that some of the onboard cars were hauling hazardous material, but none of those particular vehicles were directly impacted in the crash.

Photos reveal numerous Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles in various states of destruction, with body components ripped and dented, and mechanical bits littering the dusty landscape. Some vehicles are sitting on their roof, while others are stacked on top of one another like some kind of vehicular Jenga.

While it’s sad to see so many new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles destroyed, we’re glad no one was hurt. What’s more, it’s kinda fascinating to see how the pickups managed to handle the incident in terms of crash worthiness.

The cause of the derailment is currently unknown, but an investigation is currently underway.

For customers eager to receive their new Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup, it looks like the waiting will go on a bit longer. Even if the damage is repairable, it’s highly unlikely any of these vehicles will make it to market, as GM will scrap them outright to avoid any possible liability issues down the road.

Train derails: 20 cars jump track in McDowell County

VIVIAN — Upwards of 20 train cars derailed in Vivian, with several of them being hazardous material carriers, on Saturday.

Once derailed, the westbound train cars toppled onto their side with several of them falling into Elkhorn Creek.

“About 20 cars have derailed,” Kimball Fire Chief, Jimmy Gianato, said, “Some are hazardous material cars that are empty.”

As there were no injuries, and there is no risk for public safety, the issues of the derailment are, “From here on out, it’s the railroad’s responsibility,” according to Gianato.]

Though the hazardous material train cars are empty, they will be, “Continually monitored,” due to the possibility of, “A seal start to leak,” in later hours, according to Gianato.

After Kimball Fire Department assessed the derailment, it was determined where the derailment happened and that there were no injuries. Norfolk Southern employees were on the scene assessing the derailment.

Also responding to the scene was Jan Care Ambulance Services and the Railroad Police.

'Chemical exposure' train derailment shuts Trans-Canada Highway in southern Alta., prompts evacuation

Residents near hamlet of Irvine asked to leave immediately as county declares local state of emergency

A train derailment is shown near the hamlet of Irvine, Alta., on Friday. Residents are being told to evacuate the area within seven kilometres as a precaution.

A train derailment in southern Alberta has forced an evacuation and shut down part of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Between 12 and 15 cars left the tracks near Irvine, Alta., on Friday afternoon, police said, and some may contain flammable cargo.

The derailment involves "chemical exposure" according to Alberta Emergency Alert, which told residents within a seven-kilometre radius to evacuate the area immediately.

The train derailed on the west side of Irvine — a community of about 300 people, some 35 kilometres southeast from Medicine Hat — along the north side of Highway 1 in Cypress County, officials said in an alert sent at 4:52 p.m. MT.

"Cypress County has declared a state of local emergency and is working with stakeholders and partners to assist in the evacuation," the county said in a release Friday evening.

RCMP and fire officials are assisting.

Canadian Pacific Railway says the derailment happened at about 3:20 p.m. MT and they have "dispatched teams to the site."

    Train, grass on fire

"One of the train cars was on fire and then the grass lit on fire, so they closed the highway," Lethbridge resident Trehia May Stevenson, who drives that stretch of road often, told CBC News.

She says she was there shortly after the accident — "before the first responders."

"I was about five minutes behind the derailing. There were about 12 cars that derailed, maybe more, and none of them were tankers. It was close to the back end of the train and the rest of [the] train was still on the track."

Evacuation order lifted in southern Alberta hours after train derails, leaks octane

    September 2 2019

Rail cars were leaking octane after a derailment in southern Alberta Monday morning, prompting road closures and evacuations.

An evacuation order prompted by a train derailment in southern Alberta was lifted on Monday afternoon.

Fire crews from Barons, Picture Butte, Nobleford and Coalhurst responded to a train derailment at Highway 23 and Township Road 120 on Monday.

“There are rail cars currently leaking octane,” the county said in a message on Facebook shortly after 10 a.m

The derailment happened south of the village of Barons, which is about 45 kilometres northwest of Lethbridge.

CP Rail said the derailment happened at approximately 7:40 a.m.

“CP has deployed teams and equipment to the site,” the company said in an email to Global News.

An evacuation was ordered just before 11 a.m. for everyone from Highway 23 west to Range Road 23-5, Highway 23 east to Range Road 23-2, and Township Road 12-2 south to Township Road 11-4, an Alberta Emergency Alert  said. The evacuation order includes the Keho Lake area and the Keho Lake campground.

The evacuated area was about two kilometres in size, according to the county. The village of Barons was outside that zone but was put on evacuation notice as a precaution.

The evacuation order was lifted at 4 p.m., Lethbridge County officials said in a news release.

“Fire crews in co-ordination with CP Rail have contained the octane leak from the overturned rail cars,” officials said. “As the evacuation order has been rescinded, the reception centre at the Nobleford Community Complex has been closed.”

Highway 23 was shut down between Township Road 114 and Township Road 122 and traffic was being rerouted westbound.

In a 12:30 p.m. update, Lethbridge County officials said this was the worst leak the area has seen in some time.

“The cars that were leaking were octane and it is a flammable liquid,” Reeve Lorne Hickey said. “I think it’s an additive for gasoline.”

“No timeline yet on when the situation will be resolved,” Hickey added. “They currently have two cars stopped leaking and are working on the third.

“The car that’s leaking is underneath a couple other cars so they’re having to lift those cars off to get to the one that’s leaking.”

Had different train cars derailed, the situation could have been worse, the reeve said.

“The other cars involved were anhydrous ammonia, which they would have had to double the site they’d have to evacuate if that was the case.”

Train derails in Hong Kong during rush hour; 8 hurt

    Agence France-Presse / 01:32 PM September 17, 2019

HONG KONG — A passenger train derailed during the morning rush hour in Hong Kong on Tuesday leaving eight people injured, authorities said.

Images from the scene showed three carriages had left the tracks and were zigzagged across the rails near Hung Hom station in Kowloon – a busy interchange that provides services to mainland China.

Passengers had to leave the train through a broken door and cross tracks on the East Rail line to make their way to safety.

Five hundred passengers had been evacuated from the train. Eight passengers reported injuries when they arrived at the concourse of the station, according to authorities.

The cause of the derailment was still under investigation but there was no immediate suggestion of foul play after previous attacks by pro-democracy protesters on the city’s mass transit system.

“We would not rule out any possibility but at this stage, we won’t speculate on any particular suggestions,” the city’s transport chief Frank Chan told reporters in a presser.

Train services between two stations on the line had been suspended due to the accident, according to MTR Corporation, the city’s only rail company.

Hong Kong is in its fourth month of political unrest, which has seen millions of protesters hit the streets in the biggest challenge to China’s rule since the city’s handover from Britain in 1997.

Sparked by a now-withdrawn bill to allow extraditions to the mainland, the protests have turned increasingly violent with clashes between police and hardcore protesters becoming frequent.

MTR Corporation has been targeted by protesters since the company refused to hand over CCTV footage of police last month beating demonstrators and passengers on a subway train.

Protesters have vented their fury by vandalizing entrance barriers and ticketing machines and smashing windows in several stations.

In March, an MTR locomotive derailed and crashed into another train during the testing of a new signaling system.

Both trains were badly damaged and the two train drivers suffered only minor injuries. No passengers were on the trains at the time. /kga

CN Rail says 12 empty train cars off the tracks; northbound lanes closed at Maginot

    Nov 01, 2019 12:43 PM CT

UPDATE: CN Rail says all train cars are back on their tracks and traffic is open in all directions.

Winnipeg drivers had to use alternate routes around the Lagimodiere Boulevard and Dawson Road N. area Friday after a train derailment.

"[The train cars] look somewhat precarious, according to the initial reports," Const. Rob Carver just shortly after noon Friday.

Police arrived at the derailment shortly after noon.

CN Rail said in a statement that 12 empty grain cars went off the tracks.

"There are no dangerous goods, fires or injuries involved at this time," the statement said.

Dave Kozyra said he was driving in the area shortly after lunch.

"It must've happened two minutes prior to us going past," he said. "We noticed vehicles were stopping kind of erratically on the road and we looked up and you could see the bottom side of the train cars on the bridge and off to the east side of Lag."

Kozyra said he's never seen anything like it.

"As we went under, we were a little hesitant, because we knew there was probably one or two cars that were partially overhanging the bridge," he said.

"Seemed like there could be potential for them to fall on to the north side of that bridge."

Winnipeg police helped CN Rail police reroute traffic as a precaution.

Northbound traffic on Lagimodiere was closed early Friday afternoon between Maginot Street and Dawson Road N.

By Friday night, all lanes had reopened to traffic.

The cause of the incident is under investigation, CN said.

Train derails Monday in Reserve; no injuries reported, but roads are closed

    Nov 4, 2019 at 12:28 pm

A train carrying animal fat derailed late Monday morning in Reserve, St. John the Baptist Parish officials said.

No one was injured in the incident, and no vehicles were involved, St. John Fire Chief Cain Dufrene said. The train was carrying non-hazardous materials, according Dufrene, who said two of the three derailed train cars were tankers carrying animal fat. The other car was empty, he said.

Railroad crossings at West 10th Street, West 15th Street and West 19th Street in Reserve were closed after the derailment, which happened around 11:30 a.m.

Dufrene said those crossings are expected to remain closed for several hours as a Kansas City Southern railroad team works to clear the scene, with no immediate timetable for when the roads could be reopened.

Kansas City Southern, which operates the tracks, is still investigating the cause of the derailment, Dufrene said, though he added it seemed like the train was traveling at a slow speed when the derailment happened.

Baileigh Rebowe, a spokeswoman for parish government, said in terms of how a train derailment could have gone, things could have gone much worse.

"It could have been a very bad scenario for us," she said.

High-speed train derails in Italy; 2 railway workers killed

OSPEDALETTO LODIGIANO, Italy (AP) — A high-speed passenger train derailed in northern Italy before dawn Thursday and its detached engine slammed into a work train car on an adjacent track, ripped away part of a building wall and flipped around. Two train workers were killed and 28 people were injured, authorities said.
The state-railway Freccia Rossa train went off the rails on the heavily used Milan-Bologna line about 5:30 a.m. (0430 GMT) while traveling at a speed of nearly 300 kph (180 mph), Civil Protection chief Angelo Borrelli told state radio.
Girolamo Fabiano, a railroad police official, said work had been done during the night on the stretch of track where the derailment happened. He said it was unclear if that was a factor in the train going off the tracks. ProItalian news channel Sky TG24 said the work occurred on a track switch area not far from the derailment site.
State railways said the two fatalities were train engineers. Prefect Marcello Cardona said another railroad worker, part of the cleaning staff, was seriously injured. One passenger was seriously injured and 26 other passengers suffered less serious injuries, authorities said.
“The engine car kept going, 100 meters, at high speed,” Cardona told reporters at the crash site, near the town of Ospedaletto Lodigiano.
Besides striking the isolated work car, the out-of-control engine car clipped an unoccupied railways building in its runaway path, ripping away part of an exterior wall of a railways maintenance building, AP photos indicated. The engine car ended its fatal trajectory, flipped around 180 degrees.
Authorities said the crash occurred about 20 minutes after the train had left Milan heading south toward Bologna.
“The engine car car derailed, detached completely and kept going,″ Girolamo Fabiano, a railroad police official told state radio. ”Then the second car derailed , ” ending up almost on its side.
Cardona said it was fortunate that, due to the early hour, the train wasn’t crowded. Police said it had about 30 passengers. Only one passenger was in the first car, a business-class car, that ended up on its side, an a couple of passengers each were in the next few cars. The train passenger cars further back remained upright.
Authorities said it was possible the engine car automatically decoupled from the cars behind it as part of a safety mechanism to prevent the rest of the train from following the engine car in case of derailments

prosecutors and railroad experts are investigating.

One passenger, an unidentified man interviewed by state TV, likened the moment of the crash to being on a roller-coaster for 20 seconds.
Rescuers had to help some passengers out of the train.
The passenger train run is part of a popular high-speed rail service known as Freccia Rossa, or the Red Arrow service, which links Italy’s north and south and is used by business people and tourists as well as locals.
Rail traffic was diverted to local tracks, with delays of about an hour reported.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella in a condolence message lamented the deaths. He urged a swift investigation to determine the derailment’s cause “to guarantee the right of citizens to safety on transport.”
In other recent derailments near Milan, three people were killed and more than 100 injured when a regional train derailed on another line in January 2018.

Another train derails in fireball near Guernsey

    February 06, 2020 07:15 am

A train has derailed near Guernsey, the second time in less than two months that a train has derailed in the area.
Drivers in the area are reporting flames and a large plume of black smoke billowing into the air.
Mark Pratchler was driving west from Lanigan to Saskatoon on Highway 16 when he first saw the smoke.
“I saw a glow and then I saw some red flashing lights. As I got closer I could see a really big flame. On the detour (north of Highway 16) I could see a thick, black plume of smoke,” he said.

Pratchler said he was detoured north of the derailment site; he said Guernsey’s volunteer fire crew members were the ones on scene diverting traffic.
CP Rail confirmed the derailment in an emailed statement just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
“At approximately 6:15 a.m. local time a CP freight train derailed east of the community of Guernsey, Sask. Emergency responders have been deployed to the site. CP is making initial assessments of the incident and will have further comment when available,” the statement said.
Jerome Fisher lives in the area of the derailment. He gave an account of what it was like.
“At about 6:15 a.m. I heard brakes on the train squealing, and all of a sudden they came to an abrupt stop. I looked around my yard, and I could see a really big orange glow in the air,” he said. “It’s just another sad day, because it’s a large train wreck.”
“I had thought of going that direction (along Highway 16) with a set of super Bs (semi trailers) that I drive, and if I had gotten close to the tracks and this had happened, that would not have been good.”
In a media release, the Humboldt RCMP detachment said the derailment happened east of Guernsey, forcing the closure of Highway 16 and “the junction with Highway 20 will also be closed.”
