Train derailments

Spain Experiences its Worst Train Accident in 40 Years

An increase in train derailments was one of the first symptoms of the approach of Planet X to become noticeable, being expressed even before Planet X entered the inner solar system in 2003.

Planet X was described as affecting the Earth from afar, like tugging on the edge of a spider web where the effects are felt elsewhere on the web; in this way there has been an increase in earthquakes and unpredictable weather going back years, even before Planet X entered the solar system, due to the increased swirling of the Earth’s core.

It is therefore logical that an increase in train derailments would accompany any increase in seismic activity – train tracks need to be straight and even the slightest shift to the side of a section of track would cause a train to derail.

The area most affected by train derailments is the stretch zone.  Stretch zone quakes are silent, and people are generally unaware anything is happening, although signs such as booms and trumpet sounds can occur.

This zone stretches from Western Europe across the Eurasian Plate, and also includes the South-East United States, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Red Sea and the African Rift.

In other parts of the world, shifting ground is more associated with earthquakes that people are aware of, such as the Pacific which is compressing, so authorities inspect railway tracks after any seismic activity, reducing the likelihood of accidents.

4 killed, 5 hurt after train derails in northern Greece

     (AP)  https://www.ems1.com/fatal-incidents/articles/245060048-4-killed-5-...

The train, with 70 passengers on board, went off the rails and crashed through a house (May14)

ADENDRO, Greece — An intercity train derailed in northern Greece, leaving four passengers dead and five seriously injured, including the driver, the state railway said in a statement early Sunday.

The train, with 70 passengers, was traveling on the Athens-Thessaloniki route when it went off the rails and crashed through a house by the village of Adendro, 25 miles west of Thessaloniki, on Saturday night.

"I was sitting on my porch. I saw a flash and immediately heard a terrible explosion," Giorgos Mylonas, 78, told The Associated Press. "Then I saw the train enter (a nearby) house and heard the two Albanians who live there scream for help."

One of the three-story house's two tenants said he and his friend jumped from the balcony.

"We heard a terrible explosion and we were very scared," said Mir, 26, who only gave his first name.

The train's engine went right through the house, whose bottom floor is storage space. The house is now tilting.

A local official, Mavroudis Mintsioudis, said "the whole house is now leaning on the train, which shows you how severe the crash was."

Emergency workers, along with two dozen fire trucks and many ambulances, are on the scene. Police wouldn't let anyone get close, but a dog sniffing through the wreck could be seen alongside firefighters.

Over 50 trains delayed as Yercaud Express derails near Arakkonam

By Express News Service  |   Published: 16th May 2017 04:27 AM

VELLORE: About 50 express and superfast trains and nearly 60 electric multiple unit (EMU) services between Arakkonam and Chennai were disrupted on Monday, after Chennai- Erode Yercaud Express derailed near Arakkonam in the wee hours of the day.

The incident occurred around 12.05 am, when Yercaud Express (No 22649) was on the first line in Tiruvallur-Arakkonam section between Arakkonam and Puliyamangalam stations. Though the train was moving at a slow speed, the locomotive and three coaches — sleeper-cum-brake van and two unreserved coaches — derailed with a bang. Luckily, no one was injured.

There were 1,230 passengers onboard. Of them, about 300 in two unreserved coaches were shifted to Korba-Trivandrum Express (No 22647) by providing a special stoppage at Arakkonam. Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan, who was onboard in 1 AC along with his family, took a car to Erode.

Though railway officials rushed to the spot, the non-availability of  high-capacity cranes in Arakkonam hindered their work. When the crane operators tried to lift the engine, the rope came off under its weight. Two workers were injured in the incident and were admitted in Arakkonam Railway Hospital.

Nevertheless, the officials managed to remove three coaches from the track. The rest 20 coaches were later pulled back to Thiruvalangadu, located 18 km from Arakkonam. From there, the train proceeded to Erode with a new engine at 4.50 am.

EMU services between Arakkonam and Tiruvallur were cancelled. Even those from Chennai to Arakkonam and Tiruttani were terminated. Bengaluru-bound Brindavan Express, scheduled to reach Katpadi at 9.55 am, arrived at 3.15 pm. Similarly, all trains from Chennai to Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram were delayed by over three hours.

SAN FRANCISCO, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Two cars of a transit train derailed near a station south of San Francisco Saturday afternoon, apparently without causing any injury to passengers.

The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train had nine cars at the time, according to a posting by the regional transit authority on its Twitter social media account, adding that "everybody has been safely off boarded."

It took place near the BART station in Daly City, the largest city in San Mateo County located immediately south of San Francisco.

A BART spokesman told local KCBS radio station an hour after the derailment that the cause of the incident was unknown and the driver would be checked on as part of investigation.

A major delay was expected across the public transportation metro system serving the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California, including service in the direction of San Francisco International Airport, also known as SFO.

Vowing workers would be trying hard, the spokesman declined to speculate when the service would be back to normal.

Train carrying ice cream derails, dairy contaminates fish habitat

    Monday, June 26th 2017, 3:15 pm EDT

    MITCHELL COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

A trail derailment in Mitchell County left residents in a panic when they realized the creek water was turning white.

Doyle Mitchell, who was out at the scene on Friday says fish quickly surfaced, trying to get air, and that's when he knew something was wrong.

It wasn't long before they figured out the train was carrying ice cream and it had spilled into the creek that would eventually reach Lake Champion.

The dairy caused breathing problems for the fish, as you can see in the video below.

Luckily, the railroad crew took quick action, Mitchell tells us they built a damn to stop the continuing flow of the ice cream.

After that, they pumped out the water from the creek. Thankfully, the rain over the weekend helped with a fresh and crystal clear flow of water Monday morning.

‘Like Riding On The Back Of A Bull’: 2 Subway Cars Derail In Harlem; A, B, C, D Train Service Disrupted

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Two subway cars derailed in Manhattan Tuesday morning, causing numerous minor injuries, authorities said.

A southbound A train struck the wall of the tunnel at around 9:48 a.m., causing two subway cars to derail at West 128th Street officials said.

“The emergency brakes automatically went on. The train bucked forward, it bucked backward. In the process of doing that, two of the – there’s eight cars on this train – two of the cars derailed. They scraped the side of the wall,” MTA Chairman Joe Lhota said.

Lhota said it wasn’t immediately clear why the brakes went into emergency, Lhota said.

Two of the A train’s cars made it into the 125th Street station, Lhota said.

Thirty four minor injuries were reported, according to FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro.

The derailment caused damage to the tracks and disrupted service. It wasn’t clear how long repairs would take.

“Looks like there is track damage. Looks like there is switch damage,” said MTA Interim Executive Dir. Ronnie Hakim. There was also damage to the tunnel wall.

The derailment caused a small fire and smoke conditions, officials said.

Some 800 people were on four trains that were stopped as a result of the derailment, and some 500 evacuated on the tracks, Nigro said.

    PASSENGERS DESCRIBE IMPACT, AFTERMATH

“We were on the express track from 145th to 125th… All of a sudden it was like the train just started like banging against the walls of the tunnel,” one passenger told CBS2’s Emily Smith. “It was going up and down. It was sort of like a runaway roller coaster — like a bucking horse.”

“It started rocking all over the place. People started falling off their chairs. It was crazy, like a movie,” Edgar Gonzalez said.

“My head was more thinking about like ‘Wow, I just got into an accident on the train.’ I was pretty shaken up, I was scared,” one woman told CBS2’s Jessica Moore.

“The lucky thing is that we were only a couple of hundred feet from the platform,” the passenger said. “It was like riding on the back of a bull.”

“People were in and out of their seats all over screaming, power went out and then it stopped and the car filled up with smoke” he added. “We didn’t know what was going on.”

Once the train came to a halt, people were checking on one another, one passenger said.

All passengers on the original A train were evacuated.

Several other trains which were also stopped as a result of a the derailment were also evacuated, though the evacuations took time.

Paul Zerfluh, whose son was on the train, said it braked with no warning and came "to a violent stop,” according to his son.

“All of a sudden the realization is they’ve got cars that have broken outside the line of the tracks, and they’re dangling on the rocks, close to the water,” he told the News Tribune.

The area is about 10 miles southwest of Tacoma. Train tracks in the area run alongside the Puget Sound.

Derailed train damages Highway 59 bridge in Jefferson, Texas

    July 7 2017

Highway 59 is closed in Jefferson, Texas, after a train derailed,  damaging a bridge over the railroad tracks.

The derailment happened about 10:30 a.m. Friday when crews switching Kansas City Southern freight cars hit a Union Pacific train at an interlocker -- a spot where train tracks cross perpendicular to each other.

Three KCS cars and 13 Union Pacific cars derailed. The Union Pacific train was carrying intermodal containers from Port Laredo, Texas, to a rail yard near Chicago.

Marion County Sheriff David McKnight said no one was injured, and no hazardous materials spilled.

The bridge will remain closed until state highway engineers inspect the damage.

The railroads are investigating the crash.

"Our biggest concern right now is traffic control," McKnight said.

Highway 59 traffic is being detoured onto FM 2208, SH 49, FM 248 and FM 1324.

MTA work train derails in Brooklyn — three times

    July 9 2017

An MTA work train has derailed in Brooklyn three times in the past two days — but the transit agency still sent it back out on the tracks, according to a union source.

The train was working on ballast rock near West 8th Street in Brooklyn when it jumped the tracks around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, the source said.

The locomotive was quickly righted but moved a mere two feet before again hopping off the tracks again at 12:45 p.m., the source said.

“This same train derailed at Coney Island Yard yesterday,” the source fumed. “The MTA knows this train has an issue and they sent it out to the main line anyway.”

No passengers were involved, and no injuries have been reported.

The MTA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

    Derailment

    The Canadian Press
    Published Wednesday, July 19, 2017 2:15PM EDT

STRATHROY, Ont. -- Via Rail says train service between Toronto and the city of Sarnia, Ont., near the U.S. border, has been cancelled for two days due to a freight train derailment early Wednesday morning.

Thirteen cars from a CN freight train derailed in the centre of the community of Strathroy, Ont., -- about 230 kilometres west of Toronto -- just before 4:30 a.m., said Joanne Vanderheyden, mayor of Strathroy-Caradoc.

No one was injured in the incident, she said.

The cars that derailed were not carrying any dangerous material when they went off the tracks, said Vanderheyden, who explained that an east-west railway line used by CN and Via Rail effectively divides the town.

"Most of the cars were either empty, or had paper in them, or soybeans," she said. "So, nothing to be too worried about."

One of the cars had residual traces of petroleum, Vanderheyden said, but it wasn't carrying a load of it when the derailment happened.

"That was not a concern, either," she said.

Via Rail said the derailment had led to the cancellation of daily trains between Sarnia and Toronto on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as an early morning train from Sarnia to London, Ont., on Friday. It said trains would still be operating between Toronto and London, Ont.

The Transportation Safety Board said it was sending a team of investigators to the site of the derailment.

"The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence," it said in a statement.

Some Strathroy residents said the derailment was the talk of the town on Wednesday.

Stu Solomon, a local business owner, said the crash happened near the community's downtown core.

"There's a lot of walking traffic going by to look," he said. "That's what most of the commotion is."

James Poag, a jewellery shop owner in the town's core said the emergency response to the derailment was "impressive for the size of the town."

"The emergency response to keep everyone informed as to which crossings were opened was so well put together this morning,' said Poag, who said that none of his employees had trouble getting to work this morning.

"It's really caused less of an angry response than they might have gotten."

The municipality had closed most of the railroad crossings linking north and south Strathroy shortly after the derailment occurred, but most crossings have since re-opened, Vanderheyden said.

Cameroon freight train derails, killing one

Douala, Cameroon (Reuters) - One person was killed in Cameroon when a freight train operated by state rail company Camrail derailed, less than one year after another Camrail train crash killed 79, an official said on Thursday.

Nine cars left the tracks on Wednesday (July 27, 2015) near the town of Makondo, about 140 km (87 miles) west of the capital Yaounde, said an official at Camrail, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to speak about the crash.

"The train was carrying hydrocarbon products. Five cars completely overturned," he said.

One guard on the train died from injuries, he said. He did not say how many people had been on board.

Camrail, a unit of French industrial group Bollore, was determined to be "mainly to blame" for the derailment of a passenger train last October that was going more than twice the speed limit, was overloaded and had defective brakes, according to a government report.

The government said at the time that President Paul Biya would review the concession agreement signed between the state of Cameroon and Camrail.

A Bollore spokesman in Paris declined to comment on the latest crash.

Government sources were not immediately available for comment.

A Fracking Mess: Sand Train Derails in Miles

    Aug. 10, 2017 10:16 am

MILES, TX — A train has derailed just east of downtown Miles. According to Texas Pacifico Railroad who operates the rolling stock along the old Orient rail line, six cars went off the rails. All of the cars were carrying fracking sand for the oil fields west and south of San Angelo.

The derailment happened late Wednesday night at 11:15 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety told KTXS. Our first notification came at 6:30 a.m. when an eyewitness contacted us.

There were no injuries that were directly caused by the derailment. DPS told KTXS that an occupant of one vehicle suffered minor injuries after hitting debris, a rail tie, from the derailment on CR 357. The vehicle experienced "severe damage to its undercarriage," DPS reported. The vehicle’s driver was not injured, but a passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to Shannon Medical Center, KTXS reported.

In addition, DPS reported that a large rail tie landed in the roadway of U.S. 67, the highway the railroad tracks are next to.

Texas Pacifico said they are working to get the cars cleared and the rails repaired. With no injuries or other damage other than to the railroad assets themselves, Texas Pacifico is required to conduct its own investigations. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is not required to get directly involved. While crews are clearing the tracks, U.S. 67 is down to one lane on the westbound side.

Texas Pacifico said one car will be "righted" and placed back on the tracks, the other five will be moved away from the tracks.

About 30 cars of a Montana Rail Link freight train carrying coal derailed Sunday near Noxon, just east of the Montana-Idaho border.

NOXON — A coal train carrying 30 cars derailed next to the Cabinet Gorge Reservoir near Noxon in northwestern Montana late Sunday night, according to the train’s operator, Montana Rail Link.

Company spokesperson Jim Lewis said in a statement that the train was not hauling hazardous material and that nobody was injured in the accident.

Sanders County Emergency Manager Bill Naegeli said that he hadn’t been out to the scene yet, so he couldn’t provide any additional information. He did confirm that coal isn’t considered a hazardous material, however.

“It comes from the ground to begin with and it’s a fossil fuel and it doesn’t break down,” Naegeli said before the connection to his phone broke up.

He said the wreck occurred at about mile marker 20 on Highway 200, between Noxon and Heron.

Cabinet Gorge Reservoir is part of the Clark Fork River that eventually flows into the Columbia River and then, finally, the Pacific Ocean.

Missoula resident Nate Haflich was out boating on the reservoir on Monday and took photos of the scene that show large amounts of coal that had spilled right on the shoreline.

The incident remains under investigation and it is unclear how long the tracks will be closed.

In yet another train derailment, seven bogies of the Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express have derailed near Asangaon, on the outskirts of Thane, on Tuesday, August 29.

No casualty has been reported so far. However, 20 passengers reportedly suffered minor injuries. The incident occurred at around 6.30 am, around 40 kms north on the outskirts of Mumbai.

ANI quoted officials from Central Railway saying that they are arranging buses for the stranded passengers while doctors and senior officers are already at site of the accident.

Train no 12290 was heading to Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai from Nagpur and the incident occurred between the Asangaon and Vashind stations.

Central Railway spokesperson AK Jain said the derailed coaches include the engine.

It is speculated that heavy rains in the Kasara Ghats through which the lines run is the reason for the derailment.

Railway authorities have directed Accident Relief Medical Vans towards the site.

The clean-up continues this afternoon, where a freight train transporting Toyota Tundras and Tacomas derailed on the South Side of San Antonio early Friday morning, causing a power outage for hundreds of people in the area.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. at Briggs Avenue and Quintana Road. The San Antonio Fire Department and San Antonio Police department showed up with a Hazmat crew and several trucks, which is standard procedure for a train derailment. None of the train cars were carrying hazardous material and no injuries were reported.

Rail yard workers were “pushing” or “shoving” between 10 to 12 train cars, then trouble started with a single runaway train.

San Antonio Fire Department Battalion Chief, Russell Johnson explained, “They were shoving cars. What they call shoving cars is when they are getting ready to pull them online. They will pull them apart and then push them together and make sure they are all hooked together. Somehow it got away from them and it started rolling towards the main track. It hit the derailment track.”

About 10 cars jumped the tracks and wrecked, striking a utility pole which caused a power outage for around 6,000 businesses and homes for a duration of about 4 hours. Power was eventually restored around 9 a.m.

Spokeswoman Melissa Sparks of Toyota said there were about 40 new Toyota Tundras and Tacomas aboard the train, and it's too early to tell whether any of the trucks were damaged.
