Train derailments

Spain Experiences its Worst Train Accident in 40 Years

An increase in train derailments was one of the first symptoms of the approach of Planet X to become noticeable, being expressed even before Planet X entered the inner solar system in 2003.

Planet X was described as affecting the Earth from afar, like tugging on the edge of a spider web where the effects are felt elsewhere on the web; in this way there has been an increase in earthquakes and unpredictable weather going back years, even before Planet X entered the solar system, due to the increased swirling of the Earth’s core.

It is therefore logical that an increase in train derailments would accompany any increase in seismic activity – train tracks need to be straight and even the slightest shift to the side of a section of track would cause a train to derail.

The area most affected by train derailments is the stretch zone.  Stretch zone quakes are silent, and people are generally unaware anything is happening, although signs such as booms and trumpet sounds can occur.

This zone stretches from Western Europe across the Eurasian Plate, and also includes the South-East United States, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Red Sea and the African Rift.

In other parts of the world, shifting ground is more associated with earthquakes that people are aware of, such as the Pacific which is compressing, so authorities inspect railway tracks after any seismic activity, reducing the likelihood of accidents.

Train cars were described as "mangled." A HAZMAT team is working to contain a 4,000 gallon fuel spill.

CITRA - At least 20 cars were derailed in a two-train crash in Citra Wednesday morning, according to Marion County

Sheriff's Office and Marion County Fire Rescue officials.

Two people were evaluated for minor injuries. The accident occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. near Northeast 175th

Street Road and Northeast 23rd Terrace. At the scene, the cars were described as "mangled."

Fire officials reported a fuel leak of more than 4,000 gallons. A HAZMAT team is onsite working to contain the spill.

MCFR officials said there were three engines involved in the crash and that each engine carried 4,000 gallons of fuel. They

said one engine was "buried" and it is not yet clear if there is any spillage from that engine. The fuel spill they are working

to contain was from one of the other engines.

The engine and front of one train was off the side of the tracks, with the other train lay beside it in a ditch. Two steel

bars could be seen embedded in the cab of one of the engines.

Officials said one of the trains was hauling coal and the other was carrying non-hazardous fertilizer. One train was

traveling south and the other was going north when, for a currently unknown reason, they collided.

A Star-Banner reporter talked with a CSX spokeswoman and is awaiting official comment from the agency.

Automobile traffic is being diverted around the 2,500 block of Northeast 175th Street, also known as Pine Church Road.

    Train Derails Into Canal

A Royal Railway cargo train derailed in Kandal province yesterday and partially  plunged into a nearby canal as it was traveling from Preah Sihanouk province to Phnom Penh, police said.

Kandal province’s police chief Major General Eav Chamroeun said on Facebook that the accident was a result of the train’s sudden braking, resulting in seven cars leaving the tracks.

“The train was braking to reduce its speed. That caused the seven cars, which were not carrying any goods, to derail from its tracks, falling into the canal,” he said, adding that no one was injured in the accident.

He added that Royal Railway will not be facing any charges and the company will be responsible for repairing the train as well as any damage to the tracks.

Since the country’s train services have been slowly restored, a number of accidents have been reported at road crossings and a number of people have been killed after sleeping on the tracks.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Two tanker cars with a CSX train are at risk of exploding after a train derailment on Toledo's east side. The derailment happened at about 8:00AM Sunday near Wheeling and York.

Those tankers hit a high-tension electrical tower, prompting officials to raise concerns about a potential ignition source for an explosion of the chemical Toluene inside.

According to OSHA, toluene is a clear, colorless liquid which becomes a vapor when exposed to air at room temperature. Toluene is also flammable, and its vapors can be ignited by flames, sparks or other ignition sources.

Toluene is typically used in a mixture with other solvents and chemicals such as paint pigment, nail polish, varnish and gasoline.

Without proper ventilation and safety precautions, toluene can cause irritated eyes, nose, and throat; dry or cracked skin; headache, dizziness, feeling of being drunk, confusion and anxiety.

People in two neighboring buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

One resident living in the Birmingham neighborhood heard a loud rumble, that shook her house and big sparks could be seen.

According to dispatchers, no one was hurt.

Train derails at Conoco Phillips refinery

    3:49 PM. CST December 29, 2016

ROXANA, ILL. - Seven cars from a Norfolk Southern Rail train have derailed at the Conoco Phillips refinery in Roxana.

It happened around 9:20 Thursday morning.

Representatives from Norfolk Southern say the train had 63 cars. Seven of those cars derailed with two remaining upright and five cars turned on their sides.

Conoco Phillips officials say one gallon of sulfuric acid spilled, but that had no impact on operations, no environmental impact and no material was spilled in any waterway. Officials say there were no injuries.

They say the train derailed as it was leaving the plant, though it's unclear what caused the accident. This part fo the track leads only to and from the plant, and the crash did not affect other train traffic.

As of 3:45 p.m., three of the derailed cars — including the one that leaked sulfuric acid — have been put back on the track.

The rail company's policy is to not comment on what is being carried unless there is a spill, for security reasons.

Several tanker train cars derailed and overturned in El Segundo Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or a hazardous materials release.

The derailment was reported about 2:30 p.m. near Douglas Street and Chapman Way, according to El Segundo police.

Firefighters were at the scene taking readings to check for possible leaks.

Some areas around the tracks appeared to be flooded, but it was unclear if the derailment was rain-related and there was no immediate word on what, if anything, was inside the tankers.

A report from the scene indicated they were possibly carrying liquid petroleum.

The derailment prompted the suspension of rail service on Metro’s Green Line between El Segundo and Redondo Beach and buses were requested to shuttle passengers between the stations.

Normal Service on the Green Line resumed about 5 p.m., according to Metro.

    • At least 13 people were killed and around 100 injured after an express train derailed in southeastern India in the latest disaster to hit one the world's largest rail networks.

Seven coaches and the engine of the Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar express derailed at 11 pm local time on Saturday (1730 GMT) near Kuneru railway station in the Vizianagram district of  Andhra Pradesh state.

"Thirteen people are confirmed dead and scores are injured," J. P. Mishra, a spokesman for East Coast Railways told AFP.

"The injured have been shifted to two nearby hospitals," he said.

Officials from the railway and local government were carrying out rescue work and relief trains had been sent to evacuate passengers, he said.

He did not immediately give a cause for the derailment.

The train was travelling from Jagdalpur city to l Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha state, when it came off the track, nearly 160 kilometres (100 miles) from Visakhapatnam, the nearest city to the accident site.

Rail traffic on the coast line has been suspended.

The incident comes nearly two months after 146 people were killed when a passenger train was derailed in Kanpur, northern India.

Last month two people were killed and dozens injured after another train derailed also near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh state.

India's railway network is still the main form of long-distance travel in the vast country, but it is poorly funded and deadly accidents occur relatively frequently.

In 2014, an express train ploughed into a stationary freight train, also in Uttar Pradesh, killing 26 people.

A 2012 government report said almost 15,000 people were killed every year on India's railways and described the loss of life as an annual "massacre".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has pledged to invest $137 billion over five years to modernise its crumbling railways, making them safer, faster and more efficient

The rear two wagons of the one-kilometre long train came off the tracks and overturned in Lewisham, south-east London, at around 5.30am on Tuesday.

Tracks appear to be bent and broken after the incident, which caused huge delays and prevented passenger services from operating through the area for the rest of the day.

The line is not expected to be reopened before Thursday.

Network Rail engineers remain on site working to return the wagons to the tracks so the train can be moved.

Southeastern services from Hayes to London Charing Cross are unable to stop at Lewisham, and no trains are serving New Eltham, Mottingham or Lee.

Trains between Tunbridge Wells and the capital will run to and from London Victoria, rather than London Charing Cross.

Passengers delayed by at least 30 minutes were urged to claim Delay Repay compensation, which will be doubled by Southeastern.

Andy Derbyshire, chief operating officer for Network Rail’s South East route, said: ‘Our number one priority is to get the freight train moved and passenger services up and running again.

‘Once the derailed carriages have been moved, we’ll be able to complete our inspections and finalise the repairs needed to the tracks and signalling equipment, including how long the work will take.

‘We’re doing everything we can to get this situation sorted quickly and will be working round-the-clock to get services back to normal for passengers.’

As seen in photos from the scene, it appears that several cars fell off the tracks.

The Cosumnes River, which is swelling due to recent storms, runs through the area. Sacramento County’s Office of Emergency Services says the derailment is believed to have been caused by flooding collapsing the north end a small rail bridge.

Water is creeping in to the #3 lane of northbound side of Highway 99 at Dillard Road. Traffic is slow in the area on both sides of the freeway.

    http://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/2017/02/17/floods-cause-train-crash...

RIYADH: A Saudi train derailed near the eastern city of Dammam on Friday, injuring 18 people, after flooding from heavy rains caused the rail line to erode, the Saudi Railways Organisation said in a statement.

The 193 passengers and 6 crew members were transferred to another train and taken to Dammam after the incident occurred at about 1:00 am, it said, adding that all injuries were minor.

Repair work has begun on the closed Riyadh Dammam track, added the statement carried by the state news agency SPA. Heavy rains have lashed Saudi Arabia for several days, causing severe flash floods throughout the kingdom and at least one death in southern Asir province.

Flooding can be politically sensitive in the Islamic kingdom, where previous incidents – notably in the second city of Jeddah – have prompted anger over the government’s perceived failure to build suitable prevention systems.

GRADY COUNTY, Okla. - A train derailed northeast of Cement Monday afternoon (Mar6).

    http://kfor.com/2017/03/06/train-derailed-in-grady-county/

Sixteen cars went off the tracks around 3:30 p.m. near CR 1400 and 2757.

They landed just feet away from Katy Turner’s home.

“I have never seen this before, always had the fear of it,” Turner said. “I just thank God it didn't hit my clubhouse with my grandkids in it.”

First responders rushed to the scene not knowing what they would be dealing with.

“The rail is a chosen method of transportation of a lot of material, including some hazardous materials. So, it's always a chance that something could be catastrophic based on what's on the train and where the incident occurs,” said Buddy Myers, the Grady County District Fire Chief.

Thankfully, that was not the case.

“No hazardous materials involved. Only railroad property has been damaged. No vehicles were on the public roadways were struck. No damage to personal property. So, it's a best case scenario for us,” Myers said.

However, the wreckage has caused somewhat of an inconvenience for a nearby neighborhood.

The main road residents use is closed off.

“We've contacted some adjacent landowners. The fire department has set up a detour and is guiding people in and out of their homes,” Myers said.

Though detours are not ideal, fire crews are just glad to report no one was injured.

Fire officials told NewsChannel 4 it will take a few days to remove the derailed train.

At this time, it is unclear what was being carried in most of the cars.

Myers said machine oil is in one car, but there are no leaks.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the company that owns the train is Stillwater Central based out of Kansas.

NewsChannel 4 called the company but did not hear back immediately.

Hazardous cargo train derails in New York state but cars unbreached

A CSX Corp freight train containing hazardous materials partially derailed in the area of Newburgh, New York, on Tuesday, but the cars with dangerous substances appear to have been unbreached, an official with the railroad company said.

Diesel fuel did leak on the ground from three locomotives that derailed, and CSX sent hazardous materials and environmental experts to deal with the spill, company spokesman Rob Doolittle said in an email statement.

Some of the 20 railroad cars that derailed were carrying the hazardous materials sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide and aqueous bisulfites, the statement said.

"There are still no reports of any leaks or spills of hazardous materials from those cars," it said.

The cause of the derailment, which occurred about 60 miles (97 km) north of New York City, is under investigation.

Two CSX maintenance employees who at the time were working in the area were transported to area hospitals for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening, Doolittle said in the email.

The train was traveling from Selkirk, New York, to Waycross, Georgia, according to CSX. Dozens of cars in the train stayed on the tracks.

The Times Herald-Record, a newspaper based in nearby Middletown, said the train derailed after striking a forklift being driven across the tracks, citing officials and witnesses.

A representative for the Orange County, New York, office of emergency management, which was handling the derailment, could not immediately be reached for comment

The derailment occurred on the same day that a CSX cargo train struck a tour bus that officials say was stopped at a railroad crossing in Biloxi, Mississippi, in a collision that killed four people.

Several cars were seen off the tracks and flipped at 135th Street and Chatham.

It was not immediately clear what caused the derailment. No one was injured. The three derailed cars were empty and the other cars were carrying mixed freight.

"Safety is CSX’s highest priority, and that includes the safety of our employees and the communities where we operate. Our goal is zero accidents, and we work to achieve that goal every day," a spokesman for the rail company said in a statement. "The cause of this incident will be investigated, and any lessons learned through the investigation will be applied to avoid additional, similar events in the future. We apologize for any disruptions this has caused nearby residents."

The cleanup process was expected to last into the morning hours of Wednesday, the spokesman said.

Fuel tank cars burn after freight train derails in Iowa

    Associated Press Published 9:06 a.m. CT March 10, 2017

GRAETTINGER, Ia. — Several fuel tank cars carrying ethanol burst into flames before dawn Friday after a freight train derailed in northwestern Iowa, authorities said.

The derailment occurred around 1 a.m., near Graettinger, about 160 miles northwest of Des Moines, the Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. It said two crew members escaped unharmed. Nearby residents were asked to evacuate the area and no injuries have been reported.

Raquel Espinoza, a spokeswoman for Union Pacific, confirmed that the train is operated by that railroad company, but she declined to say more, referring questions to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Palo Alto County emergency management director Mark Hunefeld said at least 27 of 101 cars derailed, including the burning tanks. Eight cars were still burning as of 7 a.m., the sheriff's office said. Railroad personnel were able to unhitch 74 loaded tankers and move them from the site.

Sasha Forsen, spokeswoman for Green Plains Inc. in Omaha, confirmed that the tanks had been filled with ethanol at the company's plant in Superior, Iowa. She declined to say where the shipment was heading.

NTSB spokesman Keith Holloway said agency investigators would be at the derailment site to determine the cause of the accident Friday afternoon.

Train derails in Peach County, closes short railroad line for about a week

A Georgia Southern Railroad train derailed Monday, March 13, 2017, in Peach County, blocking the north end of Gracewood Road at Ga. 341. Six of the enclosed 21 cars turned over.

A train derailment Monday morning has closed a short railroad line from Fort Valley to Perry for likely a week, a railroad company official says.

No one was hurt when the Georgia Southern Railroad train of two locomotives and 21 encased tank cars derailed about 10:18 a.m.

Six of the tank cars weighing at least 286,000 pounds overturned on the tracks that parallel Ga. 341 but remained intact, said Tom Black, vice president for safety and transportation for the railroad.

The closure impacts about five railroad customers, including Reeves Construction, which was expecting the shipment of asphalt, Black said.

The derailment also blocked the northern end of Gracewood Road, a dirt road. Railroad crews were dispatched Monday afternoon to detach and move the standing cars over the Gracewood Road railroad crossing.

But the six overturned cars will take more time to remove from the track, with the railroad line expected to be closed for about a week, Black said.

The cause of the derailment has not yet been determined, and an investigator was on site Monday. Speed was not a factor, and the tracks were well maintained, Black said.

Peach County sheriff’s deputies dispatched to the scene took some photos that were posted to the agency’s Facebook page.

“We have all kinds of trains around here, and it’s rare for us to have a derailment like that,” Sheriff Terry Deese said.

“We’re just glad nobody was hurt.”

The Trenitalia train's fourth carriage tipped over and a power line was interrupted. There were 160 passengers aboard at the time.

Toni Haene, the head of passenger rail services at SBB, said seven people suffered minor injuries.

The evacuation of the train was delayed due to safety concerns until the severed power line switched off.

SBB said that train service to and from the station was suspended at least for the rest of the day.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the derailment.

Trenitalia said its own experts as well as those from the train manufacturer have been sent to Lucerne to help investigate the incident.

5 injured in NJ Transit slow-speed derailment at NYC's Penn Station

    Kevin McCoy , USA TODAY Published 10:11 a.m. ET April 3, 2017

A minor New Jersey Transit train derailment occurred in Penn Station. There were a few reported injuries, but nothing serious. However, there were widespread delays for commuters. USA TODAY

NEW YORK — At least five people suffered non-life-threatening injuries Monday when a New Jersey Transit train derailed in New York City’s Penn Station near the end of the morning rush hour, authorities said.

The slow-speed derailment marked the second such incident within little more than two weeks at the rail station on Manhattan's West Side, one of the nation’s most heavily traveled mass transit hubs.

The derailment, which occurred around 9 a.m., injured five rail passengers about the northbound NJ Transit train, the Fire Department of New York said. Some of the injured passengers were taken to Bellevue Medical Center for evaluation and treatment, the agency said.

The injured riders were among approximately 1,200 passengers aboard NJ Transit's 7:31 a.m. Northeast Corridor train No. 3926 traveling from Trenton, N.J., to Manhattan, said Nancy Snyder, a spokeswoman for the commuter rail line.

Commuter Tiffany Maxine said the train jolted, and she felt the car in which she was riding shift beneath her as a result of the incident, the Associated Press reported.

The derailment occurred as the train eased through its arrival on Penn Station's track nine. Train personnel safely escorted all of the passengers to exits in the rear of the train and onto rail platforms, Snyder said.

All NJ Transit Service into and out of Penn Station was suspended shortly after the incident, the commuter rail line's Twitter feed reported.

However, NJ Transit train service to New Jersey stations in Newark and Secaucus remained in operation, Snyder said. Midtown Direct line trains from western New Jersey were ending their routes at the Hoboken, N.J., station, where large crowds of commuters tried to reach PATH train service into Manhattan.

PATH trains, New York Waterway service, NJ Transit buses and private bus carriers were cross-honoring NJ Transit rail tickets, Snyder said.

Amtrak, which controls and maintains Penn Station rails, advised that operations on its heavily traveled Acela and Northeast Regional lines between Newark and New York City would be subject to delays after the derailment. Amtrak's Keystone line between New York and Harrisburg, Pa., by way of Philadelphia, could be modified, the national rail carrier said.

Monday's derailment gave Penn Station commuters an unwelcome jolt of deja vu.

An Amtrak Acela express train experienced a minor derailment while departing Penn Station at slow speed on March 24. All 248 passengers aboard that train exited safely onto the platform and into the station.

That incident delayed Amtrak service for hours. The derailment also forced similar delays and cancellations in some NJ Transit and Long Island Rail Road evening rush hour service.

Eight coaches of the Meerut-Lucknow Rajya Rani Express derailed on Saturday morning.

The incident took place between Rampur and Mundapanda --- near a bridge over the Koshi river.

No casualties have been reported so far. More details are awaited.

This is the latest in a string of similar accidents the public transporter has suffered in recent months, underlining the challenge the government faces in turning around the colonial-era rail network that carries more than 23 million passengers daily.

Last November, 142 people were killed and more than 200 injured when 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express train derailed in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh.

Then in January, 32 died and over 50 injured when the Bhubaneswar Express derailed in Vizianagaram. In March, 50 people were injured when eight coaches of the Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express (12189) derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district.

Most of these accidents are attributed to human error or poor infrastructure coupled with inadequate maintenance.

They were admitted in the Rampur district hospital. Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted that he was personally monitoring the situation. He also tweeted that “an enquiry has been ordered into the incident and strict action will be taken against defaulters, if any.” According to the district officials of Rampur, the injured were in shock but their condition was stable.

The U.P. government announced ₹50,000 for each of the injured.

The Railways has ordered a probe. According to K.K. Chaudhary, Superintendent of Police, Rampur, “The sabotage angle cannot be ruled out as a three-foot-long railway track was missing.”

    Aurangabad train derails

    TNN | Apr 22, 2017, 06.48 AM IST

AURANGABAD: The engine and four coaches of the 57550 Aurangabad-Hyderabad passenger train derailed between Kalgapur and Bhalki stations in Bidar district of Karnataka at 1.50am on Friday.

Railway officials said a high-level probe has been ordered into the accident and that it was too early to comment whether the derailment was due to sabotage. "We will have to wait for the inquiry report to know the exact cause of derailment. We have sent our medical relief van, as well as an accident relief team to the spot." Vinod Kumar Yadav, general manager of South Central Railway (SCR), rushed to the spot to oversee the rescue operations, said another railway official.

A Nanded division SCR official said the S1, S2 and S3 coaches and SLR (luggage coach) derailed, leaving many commuters stranded at railway stations across the division. Railway authorities sent the remaining eight coaches to Hyderabad via Parli, Parbhani, Nanded and Nizamabad stations. The Karnataka government came to the rescue and pressed into service a number of buses for passengers of the derailed train to reach Bidar bus stand. The Bidar-Hyderabad intercity express delayed its departure to allow commuters to reach the station.

"The derailment happened minutes after the train crossed the Nizam-era bridge on the Manjra river. However, the motorman managed to control the train in time, thus averting a major tragedy," an official said.

Train derails in Germany; no injuries immediately reported

    Published May 01, 2017

German police say a high-speed train has derailed in Dortmund, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The national Bundespolizei posted a photo on Twitter showing a picture of the train partially off the tracks, but with no cars turned over.

The agency said the last three of the train's seven carriages had derailed for unknown reasons, and that all passengers have been taken off the train.

The Bundespolizei said the train and tracks were "seriously damaged" and it was unclear how long the stretch of track where the derailment happened would be closed.

Police in Dortmund referred all comment to their officer on the scene, who could not immediately be reached Monday evening.

The train was on its way from Duesseldorf to Berlin.
