"Stretch zones primarily experience sinking ground, as the support in the rock strata is stretched thin. Thus, buildings implode and gas and water mains break."  ZetaTalk

What happens to rock layers under a diagonal pull, or being pulled apart? As can be seen during recent years, this has resulted in derailing trains, sinkholes suddenly appearing, gas and water main breaks, torn roadways and separating bridges. Despite the effect on man, crawling about on the surface of what they assume to be terra firma, these changes are superficial. When the pulling starts, weak points break and thereafter the plumbing and roadways hold, giving the impression that the pulling has stopped, but this is misleading. The North American continent is giving evidence that its rock layers are separating from each other, and sliding sideways in a diagonal, thus exposing portions of these layers to vent into the air above. If rock is being stressed, then where are the earthquake predictors giving evidence of this, the frantic animals, the static on the radio, the earthquake swarms? Rock in the stretch zone, pulling apart rather than compressing, does not emit the particles flows that animals and radios sense, nor register on instruments are tension and release quakes.

"We have repeatedly stated that the Earth changes will not diminish, but will increase going into the pole shift.

This is not a lineal matter, as the closer Planet X comes to Earth, an inevitable path, the more the torque effect and the polar wobble where the N Pole of Earth is pushed away violently on a daily basis, occur. The wobble will become more pronounced, more violent. The plates are tugged back West of the Atlantic, pulled forward East of the Atlantic, during the daily rotation of the Earth. The North American continent is allowed to roll East during rotation while the S Pole is pulled West, creating the diagonal pull likely to trigger the New Madrid fault line into an adjustment, and soon. The N Pole is pushed away and allowed to bounce back, daily, as the Earth rotates, a wobble that puts stress on all fault lines when the plates are suddenly in motion, and suddenly stopped!

"As there is no other explanation for the effect on the stretch zone, lacking any earthquakes to blame, and as these stretch zone accidents will continue to emerge, and with ferocity, this is a certain clue to those on the fence, that the influence of Planet X is the cause. Or is it Global Warming?"

ZetaTalk Chat Q&A for April 13, 2013

"Sinkholes almost invariably form in areas subject to karst limestone cavern formation. Underground water flows eat away the limestone leaving vast caverns and caves, which often give scant indication above ground that a cavern lies below. Karst limestone rock formations have been mapped and are known, however, but since one never knows just where a cavern might have formed, this provides little help in predicting just where a sinkhole might form. Sinkholes open up when the rock is fractured due to stress from being in the stretch zone, from the bending of a plate, or due to torsion."

Giant Sinkhole Opens on UK Farm (Aug 11)

A giant sinkhole opened up in a water logged road in Scotland, nearly swallowing a herd of pigs.

Water could be seen gushing into the hole as a herd of pigs looked on, clearly in a state of shock following their narrow escape.

Record-breaking skyscraper threatened by sinkholes

By Euan McKirdy, CNN

updated 9:35 AM EDT, Tue August 5, 2014

CNN) -- The construction of what would be Seoul's tallest building has hit a snag following the appearance of a number of mysterious sinkholes in and around the neighborhood where it is being built.

Residents of South Korea's capital are alarmed by the increasing incidence of sinkholes -- depressions, measuring up to several feet in depth and diameter, which have suddenly appeared around Seoul.

The first one was discovered in June, and since then several others have appeared, local media have reported. Now, in a climate marked by increased safety concerns, the construction of a huge skyscraper in the city has come under scrutiny.

Last month, two holes within a couple of meters of each other were discovered near the National Assembly in the Yeouido district of the capital.

Several examples of this unexplained phenomenon have occurred near the site of the Lotte World Tower, a half-constructed commercial and office development by Korean conglomerate Lotte which, when completed, will be the sixth tallest tower in the world.

Holes have appeared in at least two streets in the Songpa district, where the new tower is being built, including a 50 centimeter (20 inch) wide hole only half a kilometer (a third of a mile) from the Lotte World Tower construction site.

So far, authorities are baffled. "We do not know the cause yet," a police officer told the Korea Times. "In cooperation with Seoul Metro and Seoul Metropolitan Government, we investigated the problem and only found that the holes have nothing to do with sewerage."

A lake near the site, which appears to be shrinking, is also cause for concern. Water levels have fallen about 70 centimeters (27 inches), although Seulki Lee, a spokesperson for Lotte Group, told CNN that it would be "nearly impossible" for the water to drain into the tower's foundations due to a slurry wall between the lake and the construction.

The spokesperson also said that the company was looking into the mysterious sinkholes.

"We are working on an investigation of sinkholes but it will take some time to figure out what's going on," she said.

She said that academics and engineers from Lotte have told the construction company that the sinkholes are not related to the site but it is "necessary to figure out what is going on" to provide assurance for the public.

Plans for the 555-meter (1,821-foot), 123-story tower were first put forward almost two decades ago, but planning permission was slow in coming, due to security concerns from a nearby military base.

Construction of the tower, designed by American firm KPF, is underway and more than half of the tower's floors have been completed. The architecture firm was, at the time of press, unavailable for comment.

Professor Hong Gun Park of Seoul National University's Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering was a consultant on the project, completing an "outsider's evaluation."

He told CNN that the foundations of the building were solid, and that Seoul had no history of subsidence.

"People found sinkholes near the building site, (and) since there is a small lake, they are worried about the robustness of the foundation of the building.

"However, recently many sinkholes were found here and there in Seoul. Furthermore the foundation of the building is deep and is sitting on the deep hard rock. Thus in my opinion there is no problem (with) the structural safety of the building."

He said that it was unlikely that the Seoul municipal government would halt construction without reasonable cause.

The safety concerns over the building come months after the country was shocked by the sinking in April of the Sewol ferry, which lead to widespread criticism throughout South Korea that safety was not a priority. Almost 300 people, mostly teenagers on a school trip, died when the ferry capsized. orv

Truck Falls Into Sinkhole in Central Rome (Aug 1)

A truck driver is recovering from shock after his vehicle toppled into a sinkhole in the heart of Rome on Friday morning.

The accident happened at around 10am on Friday morning on via Palestro, by Rome’s busy Termini Station.

The sinkhole measured four metres wide by two metres deep.

Police and fire fighters were called to the scene and used a crane to pull the vehicle out of the hole.

The driver is uninjured but suffering from shock, Roma Today said.

The cause of the accident has yet to be determined.

This isn’t the first time a road in the city has suddenly given way.

Last week a car was swallowed up by a sinkhole in via Ruggero Di Lauria in the Vatican, creating chaos in the area. A burst water pipe was thought to be the cause of the accident.

Sinkhole appears in Maidstone East Station car park in Station Road, Maidstone

A sinkhole has opened up in a busy station car park - completely destroying the surface.

The hole, which is now said to be 4m wide and between 3 and 4m deep, appeared in the Maidstone East Station car park early this morning near the entrance. It is blocking around six car park spaces.

A smaller hole has also appeared nearby.

An area of the car park has been cordoned off and engineers have been at the scene today.

A spokesman for Network Rail said specialist contractors were due to start work on filling it and resurfacing tomorrow.

A full survey of the car park to detect any further voids will also be carried out.

30 families evacuated from Cebu town due to sinkhole

CEBU CITY -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Central Visayas, through its Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7, will send a geologist to Kinatarcan islet in Santa Fe town in northern Cebu following reports of a sinkhole forming in the area.

The sinkhole, which the Office of the Civil Defense Central Visayas confirmed, reportedly measures 40 feet in diameter and has a depth of about 40 feet.

It was discovered by some residents of the area on Saturday.

The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office said 30 families have been evacuated and the area where the sinkhole formed has been secured.

MGB 7 Director Loreto Alburo has recommended fencing the area and for a signage to be put up to warn people of the possible danger in going near there.

"I strongly advise the local government unit officials to strictly not allow people to come near the sinkhole as we are still determining the extent of its formation," Alburo said.

Alburo said MGB 7's geosciences division chief Al Emil Berador will check the area.

Sinkholes are common where the rock below the land surface is limestone, carbonate rock, rocks that can naturally be dissolved by circulating ground water.

As the rock dissolves, spaces and caverns develop underground.

Sinkholes can be dramatic because the surface land usually stays intact until there is not enough support. A sudden collapse of the land surface can occur.

This was manifested by the sinkholes that formed following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that struck Central Visayas last year.

As of July 25, about 205 sinkholes have been recorded in Bohol alone.

40 Meter Sinkhole Opens in Darwin River Australia (Jul 17)

A Darwin resident discovered a huge sinkhole opened up just metres from his home after he heard the sound of the earth collapsing in on itself.

Lance Hart said he heard a 'rumbling kind of like distant thunder.

When he ventured out into his backyard a few days later, he came across a large crack in the earth.

"It looked like a cliff face that wasn’t there two days ago,” he said.

Though it's not the first of its kind in the area, this sinkhole is the biggest locals have ever seen.

Mr Hart likened it to the famous scene from Crocodile Dundee where Paul Hogan's character bragged, 'that's not a knife, this is a knife', and laughed that he now had the biggest sinkhole.

In the below video, Mr Hart walked less than 50 metres from the back of his home and stood at edge of the gaping hole, which swallowed trees and boulders.

His footage shows the sheer size of the sinkhole, estimated to be 40 metres wide and drop down 15 metres to the point where it's filled with water.

"That is a big hole. I have no idea how deep that water is, but from the rocks that are still falling in to it... We're seeing massive boulders slide down and disappear underneath the surface so it's obviously very deep."

Trees as tall as 20 metres which once stood tall where the hole now lies are nowhere to be seen, and experts are unsure whether the gap will continue to expand.

Giant Sinkhole Forces Tampa Florida Residents to Evacuate Homes (Jul 19)

Residents were forced to evacuate four Spring Hill homes Saturday afternoon because a sinkhole about 40 yards across and 40 feet deep formed near their homes, authorities said.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office received a call around 5:20 p.m. describing a sinkhole near Eldridge Road and Van Allen Way.

"Out of nowhere the earth just went straight up in the air and exploded up in the air," said Margaret Helmick, who lives in the neighborhood.

But neighbors still worry that more holes could soon appear and are left to wonder what will be done with this one.
"I never even heard of a sinkhole back home in Ohio. You know what I'm saying?" nearby resident Katie Carter told WFLA. "I just hope that's the end of it. They can patch it up and you all can go home, you know?"

Once it's established that the hole has stopped growing, officials could give the go away to patch the pit using sand and/or cement.

Giant Sinkhole Opens in Residential Florida Neighborhood (Jul 7)

David Williams left his home at 1:45 p.m. to visit family last Monday. He says by the time 2:20 p.m. hit, it happened that quickly.

He received a call that a sinkhole had opened up across the street from his home. He figured it would be pretty minor, but came home to see his entire road was blocked off and the sinkhole was quite large.

"I never thought that I'd be worried about a sinkhole. Lo and behold, I come home and I was like, 'Whoa.'"

The sinkhole is located on Celosia Way off of Country Kitchen Road in Madison, Florida. Madison is a small town about an hour east of Tallahassee.

Geologists are now studying the hole as it continues to grow bigger. Celosia Way around Williams' home is shut down, but he's able to get in and out.

Even though the large hole is directly across the street, he says he has no plans on leaving his home, unless the cracks get closer.

Now the road department in Madison is calling on geologists to help. Last year, the Florida Geological Survey received a $1 million grant to study sinkholes. They finished the first phase of their study, which started in north Florida.

"We visited and confirmed a little over 200 sinkholes in the pilot study area," said Alan Baker with the Florida Geological Survey.
