Witnesses say the rails seemed to give way when a train derailed near Conquest, Sask. Monday evening.

Eight cars on a 105-car train went off the tracks about two kilometres from the community, spilling a significant amount of flax and grain onto the ground.

The cars were not carrying hazardous material and there were no reports of injuries as a result of the derailment.

Big Sky Rail operates the short-line railway. The company and the province have not yet determined the cause of the crash.

Clean-up is expected to be completed by Wednesday.

Conquest is located approximately 90 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon, near Outlook.
