FRESNO — Over the next few days, residents of Madera, Mariposa and Fresno counties may see helicopters overhead as Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) contract crews work to conduct accelerated wildfire safety inspections of substations.

“The helicopter inspections will complement and further enhance visual inspections by gathering information from the substations by capturing LiDAR data and photographs to determine if any repairs are need,” said PG&E in a statement released on Friday.

“These inspections are part of the company’s wildfire safety efforts, implemented following the 2017 and 2018 wildfires as additional precautionary measures intended to further reduce wildfire risks.”

Locally, flights will occur over substations in the areas of Auberry, Dunlap, Fresno, Clovis, Oakhurst and Mariposa between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., depending on clear weather conditions.

Helicopters will be flying above the substation at an altitude from ground of no lower than 250 feet for 10 minutes or less and will follow all safety standards and Federal Aviation Administration regulations, said PG&E.

If property owners have any questions or want to check for PG&E’s presence in their community, please email wildfiresafety@pge.com. The name lidar, now used as an acronym of light detection and ranging[1] (sometimes light imaging, detection, and ranging), was originally a portmanteau of light and radar.[2][3] Lidar sometimes is called 3D laser scanning, a special combination of a 3D scanning and laser scanning.
LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - A few neighborhoods on the east side of Lawton were without power for a few hours on Saturday(Mar 10) because of power pole that blew a fuse then caused a grass fire.

It happened just south of East Gore Boulevard on 60th Street. Valley View, Lawton and Cox’s Store firefighters got the fire under control in about 30 minutes. It sparked around 11:30 a.m.

Officials said a power pole across the street from the substation on 60th sparked and those sparks caused a fire that burned 15 to 20 acres.

The power has been restored for those affected.

Where normally clouds represent water vapor that is being blown about by wind, when over land where particle bursts are coming out of the ground this wind is not merely flowing over the land, but is affected by vertical bursts from the ground. In those cultures where common sense prevails, this is acknowledged to mean that pending quakes or certainly the likelihood of quakes as the ground is under pressure, exists.

CLAREMORE, Oklahoma - A power outage impacted a large part west Claremore, according to the city. A "huge electric fire" burned lines leading back to the substation, the city posted on its Facebook page.

That tripped the substation. GRDA had to check components before restoring power to the substation.

The city update information around 9 a.m. stating all but one circuit is functioning. About 300 customers are still without power including a senior care facility on Lowry.

Several residents expressed concern about the power outage's effect on their electric appliances because the power seemed to surge, flicking on and off for some time.

The Bay Area News Group reported Wednesday that Sonoma County dispatchers sent fire crews out to at least 10 locations over a 90-minute period, starting around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday (Oct 8), to respond to calls about electrical problems.

Cal Fire spokeswoman Janet Upton said the agency is investigating whether reports of power lines falling down and electrical transformers exploding in Sonoma County Sunday night may have caused some of the wildfires in the region.

The agency stresses that it’s investigating a number of potential causes. PG&E spokesman Jason King said the crews found wires down, broken poles and impacted infrastructure.

But he blamed the historic nature of the hurricane-strength wind — and trees weakened by years of drought impacting the company’s electric lines..."

OAKRIDGE — A blown transformer sparked a large fire in trees and brush Tuesday afternoon that spread to structures and parked vehicles along Highway 58 and closed the main highway through Oakridge for a time.

One witness said Oregon State Police troopers wheeled an elderly woman out of a single-wide mobile home before it was destroyed by fire as emergency vehicles were arriving.

Several cars, an old school bus and a detached garage east of the A&W restaurant also were burned, Oakridge Fire Chief Mike Hansen said.

The owner of an outdoors adventure business said the fire destroyed his company’s vehicles, kayaks and other equipment.

Highway 58 was closed through Oakridge shortly after 2 p.m., and the eastbound lanes reopened to accommodate traffic in both directions by 4 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. The remaining lanes reopened about 6:15 p.m., the department said.

Oakridge fire and emergency crews sent out a notice on Twitter about 2:40 p.m. that there was “a very large fire on Highway 58, in the city on the hillside between the Cascade General Building, Postal Pharmacy, Orchid Health, Subway and A&W.”

The fire-threatened businesses included Oregon Adventure mountain bike shop, Postal Pharmacy, the Orchid Health Clinic and the former Cascade General Store, which is now a bakery, T-shirt shop and events center..."
